Statement from the Norse Kingdom

Following the abhorrent usage of nuclear weapons by Milan, we have no choice but to withdraw our support for Alvonia at this time. We advise Alvonia to cut its losses and condemn Milan and sue for peace with the Eastern Bloc.

Secure Communications to Alvonian Leadership

We cannot intervene or aid militarily, but we offer santuary to the Government of Alvonia if worst comes to worst.

Signed

The response was immediate. Twenty five, five megaton ICBM's would be launched in retaliation to the Italian weapons. They would target every major population center in Milan. Rome would eat three nukes, Milan would be targetted by two, and Venice by two.

The Norse Kingdom recognises a state of war between itself and Milan. There will be no invasion, no fleet, no bombing raids, nothing but the systematic nuclear bombing of the Milanese state as punishment until they surrender unconditionally, or they stop sending out transmissions.

The remaining ~400,000 to ~450,000 troops standing at the Alvonian border would put on their Nuclear, Biological, Chemical suits and, with support from light and medium tanks, artillery, and assault helicopters, would open fire on any remaining Alvonian troops at the border that survived the nuclear blast and nuclear irradiation unleashed by their own ally.

The Hungary-Slovakian troops, tanks, and assault helicopters would begin to advance across the border into Alvonia.

The Hungary-Slovakian military would also begin to fire short and medium range tactical missiles, cruise missiles, and SCUD missiles into Milan, destroying varous targets, such as run ways, rail lines, radar stations, as well as other various military and military-related targets.

Hungary-Slovakian troops would cross the border and would also need to contend to the massive and liberally-placed minefields that covered the border. Any anti-personnel and anti-tank mine that had not been detonated by the blast of the nuclear weapons would still pose a threat to the opposing troops. As for the Wehrmacht itself, three divisions stood in their way, and those divisions were not at the border - all three had been ordered to defend Vienna with all their might. Any auxiliary Pioners in the area of the detonations were left for dead - no amount of medicine could save them now.

Meanwhile, on the Czech border, Belarusian troops would begin their own offensive. A large artillery strike would target any defences placed on the border by Alvonia, and ground forces would slowly move over the border, heading for the nearby city of Ostrava. In the air, Belarusian MiGs would target any Alvonian jets that got into range. The Belarusian forces would also fire about 100 missiles into the Czech region, targetting any Alvonian military infrastructure that had survived the Romanian strikes, as well as areas of industry. Belarusian troops would be fully equipped for nuclear and chemical strikes.

Back in Minsk, the government would sign a bill that would send a massive amount of cash, ammunition, food, and medical aid into Hungary-Slovakia, in order to assist in in rebuilding from the recent nuclear strikes.

Likewise in the south, Belarusian troops would need to contend with liberally-placed anti-personnel and anti-tank minefields placed on strategic routes. There were two places the Wehrmacht had been ordered to defend in the Czech states by Director Wilding - Prague and Brno. In Prague, the defense of the city rest in the hands of the 6. Infanterie-Division, 2. Panzer-Division and just 200 members of the Schwarze Korps. Brno would have the 1. Infanterie-Division standing alongside the 5. and 7. Panzer-Divisions, entrusted to keep the city safe. Like in Vienna, mines would be deployed and watched by well-hidden machine guns, both MG3 and M3M variety. Snipers would set up on all possible levels (ground, below ground, upper floors, rooftops, church towers, etc.) and scan for any opportune targets with their Gewehr 91/30s and G3A3 rifles. Neither of the cities would be very easy to get into.

With the little distance and notice the Alvonians had, the minefields between border and capital could hardly be extensive and the Romanians would lose not too heavily to these measures, nor be slowed down much. Evacuation efforts around Vienna would prove hard, given that the city was already within gun range and if Alvonia did not want a mass panic, the coordination would take longer than the at most half an hour it took the Romanians to cross the Marchfeld. Vienna would be surrounded and be besieged, in order to have the Alvonians surrender. To avoid getting contaminated, units would watch the radiation levels and use NBC protection to operate, when it ever got too high.

Airfields in the region would keep being shelled by artillery, to surpress the local effort in Vienna and Niederösterreich. Runways would be taking a rocket barrage, so as to stay down.

As Vienna was being surrounded, additional forces would be sent from Romania to the border, as 16 motorised infantry divisions, 5 mechanised infantry divisions and 5 armoured divisions were redeployed to the west to support the fight. Additionally, NBC specialists and medical teams would be dispatched to help the Hungarians in the West.

In the air, the situation would become difficult, as Milanese Eurofighters arrived. However, these units would be quickly engaged, both by Romanian Su-35 fighter aircraft of the entire Corpul I° Aerian and Corpul II° Aerian, which would be circling from runways to western Hungary, with a full loadout of air-to-air missiles, and by Romanian ground based air defense. While the Eurofighters would maybe stay out of gun range, medium range surface to air-missiles such as the Buk and Pantsir, as well as Strela and Igla MANPADS for low-flying aircraft hunting helicopters would find plenty of targets. Among them also the Alvonian aircraft that tried to escape the radar guided Romanian BVRAAM of the type R-77 by launching flares... which did exactly nothing, as these were IR countermeasures. The small number of Tupolevs that would be able to take up would be engaged by S-400 units of the Romanian army, though with most of Alvonias runways out for a few hours, the chances of there being many bombers was small. The few missiles that did get launched only partially hit the anti-air installations, as the cruise missiles would be picked up by radar themselves and be engaged.

Losses were still rather low, hardly impeding the capability of Romanian forces to perform. Three radars had been taken out, the now blind batteries would be linked to still operating radars, while requests for additional radars went home. The nuclear carnage did little to Romanian forces, as they had crossed first into Alvonia, being on the "safe" side of the boundary, but a few hundred would feel sick and were examined and given iodine pills, just in case, as well as to cause placebo if it was a psychological effect.

Alvonia condemns the wanton use of nuclear weapons by our former ally. At this time, we consider the Alvonian-Milanese mutual defense pact cancelled. Let it also be known that Alvonia is willing to come to an agreement with the Eastern bloc to cease our struggle and combine our weapons against Milan, which has easily shown itself to be far more dangerous than any charge said bloc has accused us of.

While the Kingdom of Carthage was sympathetic to the Alvonian cause at first and was willing to sit back even at the first display of nuclear roguery by Milan it has become clear that there is no place for Milan in the international order after the second act. In line with a general mandate to uphold the international order the Kingdom of Carthage does hereby proclaim itself to be at war with Milan.

As soon as the announcement from the King aired the earlier defensive preparations would shift to a full war mode. Carthage had made sure to index where exactly Milan was launching its nuclear weapons from, as there were only so many possible locations they could maintain silos in such a relatively small country it was hoped that a coordinated strike would be able to take down these key launch facilities and thus prevent the use of future nuclear weapons. In line with this a squadron of B-1-Rs, operating from bases just outside of Carthage and Tripoli would head for Milanese airspace. Great care was taken to fly over either allied territory or international waters where CAPs and other Carthaginian assets could counter any anti-air systems employed by Milan. Once in range, which was significant on the JASSM-ER, every bomber in the squadron would each fire 10 of these missiles making for a combined total of 120 spreading themselves evenly over the confirmed launch locations. At the same time F-1s and Silent Eagles operating from the base outside of Carthage would begin penetrating Milanese airspace over Sardinia to establish aerial superiority. These efforts would be reinforced as the bombers unleashed their remaining missiles over the island targeting military and governmental infrastructure.

As this initial air strike occurred preparations for a naval and ground assault were proceeding steadily.

***Statement from the Office of Zapadnayan Prime Minister Iskra Grigorova***

“The actions of the government of Milan have demonstrated clearly and without any shred of doubt that the Milanese regime is a threat to international peace and security on the European continent and beyond. Should such a regime be permitted to operate with impunity in Europe it will undoubtedly further destabilize Europe and encourage other states to acquire and use nuclear weaponry in the callous and cowardly manner of the Milanese. For a nation, in the modern era, to utilize nuclear weaponry in a first strike scenario and to commence hostilities without even the courtesy of a declaration of war represents a shocking deterioration of international norms. For the leader of that nation to openly and directly threaten the use of further nuclear weapons clearly illustrates why Europe should not and must not accommodate such a regime. We are now receiving further reports that the Milanese have attempted nuclear strikes on Iceland.

Regarding the situation with Alvonia. We state clearly that the ultimatum given to the government of Alvonia appeared to be designed to be rejected and to be used as a pretext for war. This situation need not have occurred, though it is becoming clearer and clearer that Romania, Hungary-Slovakia and Belarus sought to take advantage of the situation in order to ‘settle old scores’. We will endeavor to do our utmost to urge the resolution of the conflict between Alvonia and the aforementioned nations. The fact that Milanese actions were undertaken in support of our Alvonian ally does not excuse their callousness and barbarity. Nor does it allow the Milanese to avoid responsibility for their actions.

In light of the situation, we have struggled to decide upon a response that respects both our treaty obligations and our principles. In light of the situation, and the clear and present danger that the rogue state of Milan poses to Zapadnaya and Zapadnayan interests abroad the government of Zapadnaya hereby declares that a state of war exists between Zapadnaya and Milan until such time as Milan’s nuclear weapons are disarmed and it’s government held accountable for it’s crimes.”

Diplomatic Note from the Kingdom of Sverige

The Kingdom of Sverige is not picking sides in this conflict, however with the complete disregard for human life and the use of nuclear weapons against civilian populations, the Kingdom of Sverige condemns the actions of Milan. The Kingdom of Sverige will be sending out monetary aid as well food, water, and medical supplies to all nations that have felt the use of nuclear weapons launched against them. We will help those nations that have felt the brutal strikes of nuclear weapons in recovering and rebuilding, however we will not be be entering into the war. We are however prepared to host a peace conference for the state of Alvonia and the nations that have engaged in war against them, should both sides of the conflict wish to seek a peaceful resolution to this matter, in light of the current attacks placed by the government of Milan.

Doge Hereno has abandoned the capitol and has been formally removed from power by the Senate of Milan and declared a war criminal. His whereabouts remain unknown. I, Senate Speaker Alessandra Giliani, have been made acting leader of Milan, and formally request peace talks with the Romanian coalition and also with the Carthaginians. There is no need for continued conflict, and we are prepared to offer a conditional surrender to the nations arrayed against us.

Hungarian Front

Romanian missiles would be largely irrelevant against the Eurofighters, however, their presence would limit the amount to which the Eurofighters could delay the Hungarian advance, and they steadily withdrew back through Alvonian skies with minor casualties to refuel and engage the Carthaginians. With the end of the Alvonian-Milanese treaty, the Milanese movements into Alvonia would also stop and reverse themselves, being careful to avoid damage, but also stopping their assault against the Hungarians, who would be able to regain steam and continue on course, albeit with delay due to heavy road damage. The Hungarian air force would remain grounded, however, and prove as an asset to the Alvonians.

Carthaginian Front

While the Carthaginians were able to locate several missile silos of the Milanese, none of them would prove to have any missiles on hand, and a majority of silos would survive intact, several of which would remain secret due to delayed indexing by the Carthaginians. Recognizing a state of war and also the loss of their Alvonian ally, 50,000 soldiers in the Italian peninsula would move to defend Milan, and all reserves would be called up. The rest of the Republican Guard was to be deployed as well.

As there were few aerial assets left to defend Sardinia, it would be relatively easy for the Carthaginians to establish aerial superiority. However, ground defenses would prove a problem for the invaders, and it would not be possible to disable the defenses of Sardinia without significant loss of life on both sides. Infrastructure would be targeted, but the relative lack of infrastructure would cost many a Carthaginian bomb to go to waste. By the time the air force of Milan was ready to fight, however, Sardinia would be beyond hope, and forces would be ordered to defend the peninsula proper from invasion.

---

Several minutes later, the Italian peninsula would be awash with Icelandic missiles. Casualties are unknown but estimated to be in the millions. Speaker Giliani has been confirmed as alive and uninjured.

The terms are unconditional.

Milan has commited a crime against the species of humanity, nevermind war crimes. Milan will submit itself to the justice of Europe and North Africa, unconditionally, on its knees and beg for peace.

That is the only condition the Norse Kingdom will accept.

Private to Alvonia

The coalition is willing to agree to peace, should the following terms be observed:

 • Alvonia is to cede its Polish lands and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which are to be reassigned as the coalition sees fit.
 • Alvonia is to cede the Burgenland, which will be reattached to Hungary, from which it was seperated in the Treaty of Trianon.
 • Alvonia is to cease all fighting with the coalition forces and is to declare war on the Milanese regime.

The coalition is willing to waive any and all terms that infringe on Alvonia's internal sovereignity and its ability to act diplomatically. Additionally, the coalition is willing to agree on a transfer of Südtirol-Trentino to Alvonia, in exchange for Burgenland, to make up for the loss incurred and unite the Tirol region into one entity again. Should the Alvonian government agree to these terms, we would be willing to sign an armistice and peace agreement, in order to cease hostilities and fight the rogue regime in Milan.

Spartan wasted no time in its massive retaliatory assault against Milan.  Milanese radar stations were engaged by patrols of advanced growlers jamming frequencies across the board while EC-130 moved in at stand off range to provide mass jamming of command and control systems as well as communications between to prevent further coordination and the ability for them to coordinate.  At the same time IRBMs and SRBMs from the would begin engaging the radar and ELINT heavy military locations across Milan, and satellite uplink stations, as those would be the ones most likely to be sending command and controls.  With radars largely unable to detect anything, their ability to engage IRBMs and SRBMs would be near impossible as they pounded targets followed in by pulsing salvos of cruise missiles which targeted air bases and targets of MASINT activity indicative of underground silo and reactor coverage.  Such measures to try and hide them would be extraordinarily complex under the best of circumstances, under what the compressed Milanese schedules it was near impossible.

Soaring across the skies of the Milanese were F-23s using their DAS to detect launches and immediately engage in counterforce strikes with follow on attacks by F-15 Silent Eagles targeted air defense sites and fortified positions across the south pounding them with JASSM-ER missiles aiming at a totally overwhelming attack to the air defense systems, while Growlers jammed up the targets with false positives.  The only chance the enemy air defenses had would be to put them on automatic which would involve first and foremost making their air force unable to operate without shooting down half of it with friendly fire, and secondly, its effectiveness would be completely reduced as the jamming was so comprehensive.

While they were being pounded ten B-2 bombers would fly past the zones of control hitting air fields across Milan with conventional explosives maximizing the damage to be done across the board.  Another two would pound the !@#$ out for lack of a better phrase out of logistic facilities and roads on the border between Sparta and the Milanese as Spartan Amphibious forces 35, 000 total launched a full on assault against the Milanese positions with F-15 SEs pounding at the rear of the Milanese lines, preventing them from being able to gain any reinforcements while comprehensive jamming disrupted command and control across a wide front.  Infantry would lead the way concentrating on creating gaps for mechanized forces to move around and encircle forcing the enemy forces in close in in order to defend themselves.

Milanese forces would be then offered a choice between massing and a defending themselves to ground forces at which point B-1 Rs would be brought in to obliterate them from above, or trying to stick it out at which point the Spartan forces would retaining their initiative converge and destroy.

Absolutely no mercy would be given as a large taskforce steamed from the Eastern Med to Italy.  A dispatch was given:

Sparta recognizes hostilities with the Duchy of Milan.  These brash and total unnecessary genocide is simply beyond the pale, striking two of our allies.  The terms of Sparta are the following.

#1  Complete Demilitarization

#2  Occupation by the responsible Mediterranean Powers understood to mean Sparta and Carthage

#3  Surrender of Southern Italy and the Eternal City and land connecting the two to the responsible Mediterranean Powers.  Quite frankly someone who would place such a city at risk of thermonuclear war should not have it.

You !@#$@#$ nuked millions, failure to comply will result in your utter annihilation

Knowing that it would be useless to bother continuing at this point, the Milanese leadership climbed aboard a starship and headed for the skies, singing "Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me!"

Watching from the planet Omicron Persei 8, they would see Italy be engulfed by greedy olive and pale skinned meatbags eager to destroy the legacy of the once great Italian nation.

With little to no resistance in the air over Sardinia and Milan's apparent surrender 50 Sacred Band and 5,000 soldiers would be deployed to Sardinia to hold the island and guarantee all criminal elements were arrested. An additional 10,000 soldiers would be deployed to mainland Italy to aid the Spartan forces.

Iceland

With the Norse Kingdom already on essentially a war footing, the King and his daughter were rushed to the Royal bunker beneath the Palace. The civilian population would mainly be caught in their beds. The nations missile defence systems shot down six of the eleven weapons fired in their terminal phases, but by the time the other five had been tracked and locked onto, it was too late. Reykjavík, Kópavogur, Hafnarfjörður, Akureyri and Reykjanesbær were wiped out, with estimated casualties at nearly two million people and were expected to rise over the following weeks.

The military which survived unscathed was deployed en-mass to the disaster areas in full MOPP gear as immediate disaster relief would begin. It would be some time yet before the efforts got up to full speed. The Royal Family was secure in their bunker, but it was buried under alot of debris and would be evacuated as soon as possible by the military. Radio contact was being maintained.

Due to the Alvonian offer of peace, the main portion of the Belarusian army and airforce would temporarily cease its advance, right outside of Ostrava. Smaller groups of specially trained soldiers, however, would be sent out with the purpose of scouting out and defuse Alvonian minefields. The militayr had discovered the mines the hard way, and had taken a few casualties.

*Hungary-Slovakia would continue pushing forward through the few lightly and quickly laid minefields, taking light casualties as they went.  The Hungary-Slovakian artillery would once again pound at what Alvonian soldiers were at the border, but since most of Alvonia's forces had withdrawn around Vienna, the artillery was soon lumbered-up and readied for transport to within 3 miles of Vienna,

Before they were transported, Hungary-Slovakia would launch SCUD missiles, cruise missles, and tactical missles ahead into Alvonia, damaging roads, rails, run ways, and military equipment.

Shortly afterwards, the Hungary-Slovakian military soldiers, assault helicopters, tanks, and lumbered artillery would begin advancing towards Vienna, again receiving little resistance, since all of Alvonia's military had withdrawn back around Vienna.

They would stop their advance 3 miles outside of Vienna and be ordered to stand-by.*

Across Italy, Spartan Forces began landing, followed in by relief forces to help rebuild from the devastation of the disasterous regime which had proceeded it.  A new day was dawning soon hopefully even s the Italian Penninsula had lost over 1/4 of its population.

Italy was now entirely a protectorate of Sparta, save for Sardinia.

We shall await a representant of yours to travel to Bucharest then, to sign the peace agreement. We regard this as the official armistice agreement. With an armistice agreement with Alvonia in place, we would like to convene in Bucharest, to sign a peace treaty. We would think it best, if the new territories be occupied for now according to the spheres of influence set out in the pre-war agreement. Romanian troops for now shall stay within Hungary, to assist in disaster relief, though additional troops can be sent, should it be requested by any of the powers to help in policing.

We thank Sparta for the swift and decisive strike against the rogue regime in Milan. The Milanese madmen hopefully will no longer pose a threat to European peace and stability. While Romania and its allies would see no issue in Spartan administration of the Milanese lands, whatever form it may take, we would like to be allowed to occupy Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol and to decide the fate of said province. We would hope that this poses little issue.
