Sovereign governments have popped up all over Europe and the rest of the world, but most of Africa is still desolate," said Sayyid Antar, head diplomat of Alexandria. "There is one nation though, that is curbing the wildlands and bringing civilization to the continent - the Great Lakes Republic. What of them?" Ioannes looked over the maps. "They're pacifying the Congo right now. They're by far the most powerful nation in Africa, as well as one of the most stable. It would do us good to make friends with them, especially after the fall of Axum. Send a message to them, let them know that we're interested in starting talks with them. I'll attend them personally." While the Alexandrians took too much of their culture from Europe for her tastes, they were one of the few remaining African nations not to have crumbled back into anarchy and desolation. "Colonel, dispatch a response to Alexandria. Provide them details and a travel plan to Dar es Salaam. Myself and Colonel Oburu from the Diplomatic Corps will meet their representative at the diplomatic hall there." The Colonel saluted and the message was transmitted to Alexandria. He left Alexandria the very next day, giving the instructions to his personal government pilot, arriving in Dar es Salaam. Stepping out of his plane, he met with the welcome staff from GLR, exchanging pleasantries and shaking hands. He was escorted to the conference room, taking a seat and looking out the windows to view the capitol, waiting for the GLR representatives to arrive. He stuck out his hand to shake the General's. "Currently, the Republic and Alexandria are the only real nations of Africa, civilizing parts of it and providing security and stability to our respective populations. As just about the only sovereign nations on the continent, I believe that we have a duty to work together and safeguard our continent from foreign and internal threats." "What I'm proposing is a mutual defense agreement between the Republic and Alexandria, and to take part in peace-keeping affairs throughout the continent. Reports have reached me about how the Republic is pacifying the Congo, and I, personally, am very happy that another nation aside from Alexandria is creating safe havens for peoples," he explained. Additionally, the Republic will have the right to move troops freely through Alexandria, to the lands beyond Africa, and a lower fee for use of the Suez Canal. "I can agree to all of the above, on the condition that the Republic trains Alexandrian specialists in proper military naval vessel maintenance." He paused. "The creation of a dock for Republic usage will begin construction as soon as I am on the way back to Alexandria, in El Alamein." "Would you happen to have a treaty drawn up?" asked Ioannes, smiling. He was glad that the trip to the Republic was going so well. Solidarity between African nations was important when there was so few of them active on the continent. Signed, Ioannes Palaiologos, [i]Bishop of Alexandria[/i] "This is a momentous occasion, you do know that, right?" inquired Ioannes to the General. "The Republic and Alexandria will be able to safeguard Africa's future now. I look forward to our further cooperation. I'm sure we'll be in touch again quite soon," he said. After talking a bit more with her, he bade her goodnight and returned to his hotel. He planned on spending the rest of his time in the Republic sight seeing and getting a feel for the country's peoples and culture, before returning back to Alexandria in a few days.
