Historical Review Of The Events of May the Second, 2XXX

Community Hall, Winnipeg: The conflict raging in Kanadarian lands had lit off a war of words between the disparate communities that voluntarily made up the Free State of Caledonia. Founded on the principle of Freedom and unaligned formally with any other nation on the planet, a hard core of far leftists, libertarians, sovereign men, and anarchists would march on the Community Hall to effectively shut down any attempt by the government to aid it's fellow North American nations in their prosecution of the war against Faraway. The Executive Council, hands tied by the lack of a popular referendum, and displeased with the conduct of the factions, would immediately call a full vote of each Community; effectively ordering everyone back to their homes and villages in order to have their votes be counted. There could only be one question urgent enough to demand an immediate response in a system noted for taking it's time: Would Caledonia, arguably one of the freest nations to ever exist, go to war?

The Right Honorable Gentleman, Sasquatch V. MacMillian drove his axe into a tree stomp and spit out his chewing tobacco before speaking,

"Us lumberjack folk are gettin' soft up here while them damn snail eating frenchies are sippin' on their cham-pan-ye and smelling their stickin' cheese laughin' up to high heaven don cha know!  I SAY $%&@ 'EM!  I SAY WE GO IN THERE AND KICK THERE ASSES!  KILL THEIR WOMEN AND $%&@ THEIR MEN!  I HEAR THEY GOOD AND HAIRY AND DON'T SHAVE!  YOU KNOW I LIKE THAT!"

"The Laurentine Union finds the events in Caledonia doubly disturbing. We would hope that the Caledonian state not support the attempted subjugation of our people, but even more, we hope that these liberal, anarchist and left-wing radicals be checked, as we think that such elements could pose a threat for the state and should they ever come to power be a serious threat to the region."

-Florence de Pétèvellier, Minister of the Exterior

INTERNAL MEMO

EXECUTIVE INTELLIGENCE BUREAU

FROM INTERNAL COMMUNITY MINISTER CHARLES DE' LUIT

FOR THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL: ATTENTION!

Major Obergarden: "Gentlemen, I have been asked by this government to perform an assessment of the readiness of our military forces to assist our neighbors in their war with Faraway. The question has arisen, as I had advised when the current force was proposed, of loyalty; will these young men and women obey the orders of the Council and fight? As a nation of free men, we have created a unique experiment in liberty; These men have been raised on the doctrine of self defense; and their training has been with the rhetoric of protecting the populace of Caledonia. It was expected, when this organization was created, that these men and women would be the vanguards of our revolution and the defenders of our doctrine of self-determination; what we will soon ask of them is outside of the training parameters vigorously established at Fort Green Hill or its subsidiary commands....my assessment is ongoing..

Forward Deployment Team Caledonia would begin arriving in Winnepeg and start setting up shop.

Classified
To: Government of Caledonia
From: Legion
Regarding: Local Security Issues

Subclause 4, paragraph 5, item 7 of our agreed upon contract requires Legion to deploy forces into Caledonia in order to protect and preserve the construction projects and Legion interests during times of war and civil unrest. We will be deploying a substantial number of forces into Caledonia and request, but do not necessarily require permission from your government to do so.

We prefer we are invited and should permission not be forth coming we have alternative locations to site our forces.

Further, substantial stocks of equipment are being purchased from North American vendors to equip the North American Expeditionary Force. They will be arriving as soon as there are forces in strength to receive them.

North American Expeditionary Force- Caledonia

The NAEF Forward Detachment quickly begins arranging housing, warehouses, and other necessary site for the stability and defense of Caledonia. Using information taken from the Mpesa Ltd database and local Legion contractors greatly facilitates this process. Local Legion Security Contracts originally sent over as part of the 1st Regimental Combat Team are called back to the colors to provide security for the Forward Detachment and to act as local guides.

The first flights of men from Legion start leaving immediately as over a dozen leased 787 aircraft lift off from Mogidishu on a path to Seattle where they will refuel and then up to Caledonia. With the heavy equipment, or the bulk of it coming from Hershey Defense, the deployment schedule will be greatly accelerated. None the less, not all heavy equipment is being purchased locally as several large RORO ships depart Mogidishu carrying mission critical items.

Mpesa Caledonia

With the deployment of the NAEF, comes a massive boom in contracts for Mpesa Ltd. Thousands of Legionnaires flood to the Mpesa offices and take up employment in their service. The contracts call for the construction defenses, supply depots, reinforcing air strips, and a slew of other defense projects needed for Legion to honor its commitments to Caledonia. The bulk of the construction targets the Caledonia/Kanadario border and runs back in depth into Caledonia. These projects are significant in scope and will be ongoing for sometime.

Dozens of defense related contracts are issued out to Caledonian companies with the expectation that Mpesa Engineers will supervise them closely to ensure quality work. Not that the quality is expected to be superb given the hurried nature of it, but certain standards must be met.

NAEF Caledonia

The NAEF Forward Detachment team is set up and waiting for the first contingents of Legionnaires to arrive. While many of the local sites hired for housing the incoming Legionnaires are somewhat substandard, it isn't considered much of an issue given most Legionnaires are used to rough conditions and the bulk of the men arriving are veterans of Legion's recent General's Rebellion.

With the first wave arriving, the second wave takes off, and the third wave begins boarding. These rotations will continue with fresh air crews on board the planes resting and waiting to take over as needed. Dozens of 787, 767, and 747 aircraft have been leased for the great Legionnaire Airlift. With these civilian planes go Legion's C-4B Galaxy transports carrying items needed by the arriving Legionnaires immediately. Nearly every C-4B transport carries an Air Defense Artillery detachment slated for immediate forward deployment.

The RORO transports heading across the Indian Ocean carry the other critically needed heavy equipment, with the majority of the vehicles and weapons to come from Hershey Defense.

NAEF Caledonia

The first wave of Legionnaires has arrived and is settling in at their temporary barracks. The 2nd wave of Legionnaires are in the air and will begin arriving in hours. The third wave is waiting to board, the fourth wave moving to the airports, and so on and so forth. The total transit time to move the entire Legion North American Expeditionary Force is a bit hard to predict at this time. The contractors are hard at work as well.

Supply dumps, well protected with earthen ramparts, bunkers, and soon to be arriving air defense artillery units are under construction. Vehicle depots with earthen embankments designed to contain explosions are being put into place and of course positions for air defense artillery built into them. With time these sites will be properly reinforced with concrete structures and such but  for now earthen ramparts will suffice.

A call is put out across the American Commonwealth and Caledonia for the purchase of reinforced concrete road barriers that will serve to speed up the construction of field positions as the prefabricated barriers can be quickly installed without having to wait for the concrete to set. Surveys are being conducted to determine proper routes of advance, lines of supply, and routes of withdrawal and careful planning is in motion to ensure that supplies that can serve both for advancing and retreating Legionnaires can be easily reached.

NAEF- North America

The 1st Corp is in place along the Caledonia/Kanadario border. The 2nd Corp has begun arriving, with the 3rd corp in motion to begin departing. Equipment from Legion, by sea, is well on its way to being delivered to North America. Equipment from the American Commonwealth has been and is being distributed to Legion forces.

Construction of the border defenses is proceeding at a frantic pace. The concrete highway dividers are being put into good use with the creation of reinforced berms, bunkers, and other sites needing concrete to complete them. Shipping containers are being brought in and buried underground using the traditional Legion templates for underground barracks, workshops, and storage sites. They are covered with four to six feet of earth and other materials to protect them from indirect fire. Of course, a direct bomb strike probably wouldn't do them much good, but time does not allow much further in what they have now.

Air Defense Artillery batteries, the rocket variety in short, medium, and long range kind, have been arriving. With them an entire F-15 Eagle Fighter Bomber Wing to provide air defense coverage for Caledonia will be arriving in the near future. The B-2 Bombers will shortly be crossing into American Commonwealth airspace and will gain permission to land at American Commonwealth Bases before arrival.

NAEF - Caledonia

The 1st Corp is dug in along the border at strategic points. While its strength is spread out along a long line of resistance, its core units are consolidated for purposes of being able to defend themselves locally. In other words, light patrol units are hard at work while regiment sized armor and mechanized armor units are kept intact. Air patrols are flown along the border in attack and scout helicopters while newly arrived Legion F-15s keep a strong presence in the air and ready on the ground at all times.

The 2nd Corp has finished arriving, is taking on new equipment, and will be departing for the border shortly. The 3rd Corp is now taking to the air to begin its deployment. Mpesa Ltd is still hard at work with building storage, housing, bunkers, hospitals, and other vitally important fortifications and structures along the Caledonia/Kanadario Border. The RORO ships are now in the central Pacific and well on their way to arriving in North America.

North American Expeditionary Force - Caledonia

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Corps are on the ground and either in place or moving into place on the Caledonia/Kanadario Border. The three Corps are ordered to consolidate into three corp size formations for the purposes of providing security and advancing in either direction if needed. Construction efforts are running at full tilt to ensure the Legion's stockpiles of supplies are at the levels demanded by Major General Morgan-Denard. Drones have joined the helicopters air patrols, F-15 Strike Eagles are flying Combat Air Patrols, F-16 Fighting Falcons and F-18 Super Hornets are just now appearing as they are offloaded from the RORO ships that have arrived. Four dozen large boxy containers are unloaded off the RORO ship's decks and loaded onto waiting trailers attached to semis. Drivers, Legionnaires, have their orders to proceed across North America and directly to Caledonia and to do so wearing civilian clothing, but are equipped with all the necessary paperwork and identification.

Back in Legion, the Baker's Dozen of logistical, engineering, and rear area security troops are being pulled together. Once they've arrived the positions in Caledonia will be left in good hands that will keep them save, keep developing them, and keep supplies ready and well organized.

North American Expeditionary Force - Caledonia

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Corps are in position and fully equipped. The Baker's Dozen, or NAEF-Caledonia Administrative Forces are in position and are assuming control of rear area duties and working with Caledonia on security matters. Short, Medium, and Long Range Air Defense Batteries have been put in place with their radars up and running to protect Legion and Caledonian units and facilities. The 48 Tractor-Trailers have arrived and have been assigned to their positions, the drivers are waiting for their orders to begin performing their mission. Long lines of supply trucks, fuel tankers, and other vehicles necessary for the logistical, mechanical, and medical support of three full corps are in place and waiting with their security details that are well armed with heavy/light machine guns and MANPADs.

In the air the Legion F-15/16/18 aircraft are rotating in and out of the sky as they patrol and wait for orders. Heavy bellied Electronic Warfare Craft drone their way through their air as they keep their electronic eyes well peeled and wait to vomit out torrents of blinding microwave energy when the time comes. B-2 Bombers are en-route and waiting for permission to land in the American Commonwealth. B-52 Bombers from Legion are just now arriving in Caledonia along with crews and supplies to assist them in their mission of supporting Legion Forces in keeping Caledonia safe and secure.

The 4th Corp is ordered to stand down from active operations to serve as the NAEF's replacement pool for the duration of operations in North America. Advanced parties from the 4th Corp will set up replacement depots in Caledonia to facilitate the speedy replacement of dead or injured Legionnaires.

To: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Caledonia

From: Elodie Lavasseur, Ambassador of the Laurentine Union to Caledonia

Greetings,

I hereby am to inform you of our decision to suspend bilateral agreements on travel, due to the issues it creates with our nation and our people. This suspension will be indefinite as we do not know when travel might be permissible again, however it will surely last for at least the duration of the ongoing war.

With regards,

Elodie Lavasseur
