At the end of the world

For weeks beforehand, Norse scientists had been keeping tabs on strange seismic readings from the depths of the North Sea, readings not consistent with any known natural occurrences. Submarines in the area monitoring the situation began reporting of a large sonar contact, unknown to anything ever recorded in the database. The findings were forwarded to the Government who in turn made the decision to deploy the entire fleet to the area.

One hundred and fifty three vessels and thirty five submarines converged on the location and waited for further orders.

Norse mythologists poured over historical texts and legends until they came to the answer. The Dýr, "beast", in English. Once thought to be a fictional beast from Lovecraftian horror, the Dýr was an ancient being, barely mentioned in Norse mythology, described only as the Dýr. Cthulhu was very real, and he was about to be sent back to his pit by the full and unadulterated violence of the Norse Navy.

Two Days Later

Tens of thousands of sailors and airmen were slaughtered like pigs as they fought against the Dýr who remained unharmed as the fleet expended nearly every unit of ordnance against it as they began the retreat to Jutland, only to be obliterated utterly before they could do so. The army, who watched the last of the warships be destroyed, massed in Jutland began its retreat to Funen as the air force began its covering campaign using standoff weaponry to slow the Dýr down, to little effect.

King Frederik was evacuated to Bornholm. On his arrival he sent out a distress call across the world, calling on all nations for help in destroying the Dýr.

The Dýr made its land fall at 18:55 GMT and slowly and surely began its advance across the lands, killing everything in its path and blasting all traces of human civilization from the face of the earth as it went.

President Leonardo Kennedy of Ireland immediately dispatched the 1st Expeditionary Strike Group, 2nd Expeditionary Strike Group, and 3rd Expeditionary Strike Group to the North Sea. A total of 6,000 marines were dispatched on the ships. Freedom-Class Destroyers would launch torpedoes into the water at any large mass they encountered on radar. Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft were also dispatched to patrol over the Strike Groups and to coordinate possible strikes. NAV737 navy aircraft would also patrol and conduct torpedo operations. SEAHELO-60 helicopters would lift off from Liberty-Class Landing Ships and also conduct operations looking for the creature. 5 ATT-130 airplanes would be sent to patrol the southern coast line of the Noorse Kingdom.

Minister of Defense Mr. Brendon Calbert has sent a request to the Noorse government requesting additional information on the creature and permission to deploy thousands of troops to their country to assist in operations.

Minister of Defense Mr. Brendon Calbert has sent a request to the Noorse government requesting additional information on the creature and permission to deploy thousands of troops to their country to assist in operations.

All information on the beast was dispatched to the Irish task force and permission was granted for forces to land on Funen and begin fortification operations alongside the Norse army. The air force would continue its bombardment in tandem with Irish air units.

The beast itself would turn to combat the approaching Irish warships as they neared the coastline due to its proximity to the sea. Using its massive body, arms and tentacles it would, in some cases, pick up smaller craft which ventured too close and crush them like toys. Using the debris from the destroyed Norse vessels, it would launch them at the incoming warships.

The damage however being inflicted on the beast was devastating, its massive head being blown to pieces like a firecracker in jelly, only to regenerate minutes later for it to continue its assault.

Military intelligence analysts looking at recorded battle footage determined that white phosphorus munitions and warheads seem to cause lasting damage to the beast, but the present concentration of firepower was not enough to bring it down. Dozens of aircraft littered the ground around the battlefield. The Jutland Division and the First Danish Line Infantry Division formed a rearguard for the retreating Norse forces.

With the aim of assisting the Irish forces, the two divisions began assaulting the beast with their own firepower on the ground only to discover that the Dýr carried thousands of parasite like creatures, each the size of a large dog which were now falling away from its flesh with the bombardment and attacking the approaching ground forces using the large mandibles and teeth as their primary weapons as well as a large stinger like appendage on their rear of the creature which shot some sort of acidic liquid up to ranges of thirty feet. These creatures were easily killed, but the sheer number of them ensured a continual supply of cannon fodder for the grunts to kill before they could turn their full attention to the Dýr.

Elsewhere in the East, the city of Pyongyang began to shake with Earth Quakes, as a great force was being stirred making its way underground towards the Sea of Japan.  Something was calling it...

It was a force the world had forgotten... born of a baptism of nuclear fire and pure undiluted rage.  A national savior to some, a demon to others, both protector and destroyer.

Tracking the events around the world, the Emperor knew what he had to do, as he looked at the specs being prepared for his new combat 'armor.'  He sent out a simple message, "Imperial Knights... ASSEMBLE!"

The 14th Field Artillery Brigade would utilize the M777 Howitzer and use specially made white phosphorus artillery rounds. These would be strategically placed around the fortifications built and also deploy them into the field. The 2nd and 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (total of 20,000 marines) would leave the protection of their bases and actively search for Cthulhu. The 14th Fighter Squadron consisting of F-15 SE armed with 1× 20 mm (0.787 in) M61 Vulcan 6-barreled Gatling cannon with 510 rounds of ammunition, many varieties of air-to-surface missiles, and several bombs would provide air support.

Time in our world is an unusual thing, days can pass in one nation where only hours pass in another, leaders can appear seemingly unaging in the time it takes other empires to rise and fall. The last thing Ariana could remember was being in Australia, then for what seemed forever, running in darkness from something big, and evil. Waking up on a cold desolate beach surrounded by slagged glass, she shook the visions out of her head and looked around picking up her backpack laying nearby with her usual assortment of small arms and necessities. Walking past the hulking wreckage of the Norse fleet washed up on the shoreline  she wondered where Emi and Keiko ended up after Australia fell, feeling as though it had to have been months since the world had seen her last.

Explosions were happening near continuously from the south, seeing the outline of the horrifying creature in the distance lit up by the missiles bombs and tracers attempting to slay the beast, Ariana began walking in that direction, no more running.
