"Breaking news-"

"We now bring you live to Austin-"

"Alright, we are now getting word-"

"Hang on, I think... Oh breaking news!-"

"-that I'll have to cut you off right there. We now have breaking news from the city of Austin."

"We have it."

"It is now confirmed-"

"NLDFR, Austin's Radio-news leader, can now confirm that John-"

"-John Lawrence-"

"that John Lawrence, the Republican from Amarillo,  has been elected the next Governor of Texas."

Two Months Later

"Please repeat after me sir," said a smiling Chief Justice as he held open a bible to Romans 14. John raised his right hand, and put his left hand onto the bible. "I, John Lawrence."

"I, John Lawrence."

"Do solemnly swear."

"Do solemnly swear."

"That I will faithfully execute the office of Governor of the State of Texas."

"That I will faithfully execute the office of Governor of the State of Texas."

"And will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of The American Commonwealth and the Constitution of Texas."

"And will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of The American Commonwealth and the Constitution of Texas. So help me God."

The Chief Justice smiled and gently closed the bible which was now nearly 400 years old. "Congratulations Governor Lawrence." The crowd outside of the Texas capitol building erupted into cheer as the two men shook hands, "Be sure that the bible is returned to Saint John's Lodge." The Chief Justice nodded in understanding as the crowd continued to roar. John humbly stepped forward to the podium as a light breeze blew across the crowd. "Good evening, my fellow Texans..."

"Had a good night, governor?" John was reclined back in a chair, a bottle of Coca-Cola still in his hand as he slowly opened his eyes. "Wha.. What?" he said as he focused on the young man before him. "I hope you had a good night," repeated the stranger, "because you have a long day ahead of you - perhaps almost as long as mine." John sat up and slowly got to his feet from the recliner, "I almost didn't recognize you for a second, Lieutenant Governor." John's friend smiled and shook his hand, "I'm sorry I couldn't be in Austin last night for the celebrations. I got here around 11:30 and so I was sworn in before midnight. I figured it'd be better to get some sleep for the first day of work... Would you like to see who won the House and Senate? I think you'll be pleased."
