Evangeline Anovilis
From Karafuto all the way to Fukui, the country is electing its first government. While independence was one issue, the question how to rule the country in the future is another. For reference: Democratic Party | Minshutō Leader: Omura Junichi Position: Center-left politics; encouraging individual freedom; improving the opportunities of hard-working people and increasing subsidies for the less fortunate. Conservative Party | Hoshutō Leader: Date Seiranko Position: Center-right politics; encouraging solidarity; prevent "social erosion"; support for small and medium business. Liberal Party | Jiyūtō Leader: Yannasagi Makoto Position: Social and Economic Liberalism, strengthening Tōhoku by improving the competitiveness of the region, cutting taxes for business and consumers to encourage production and consumption. People are allowed to ask questions. OOC: You need a nation in CNRP to vote.
Kevin Kingswell
An international reporter for the Grand Republic stood to ask a question. "What is the view of each party on trading with foreign nation for resources? In specific with the Grand Republic?"
iKrolm
Question from The Manila Times: How would each party choose to organize Japan's military forces?
Evangeline Anovilis
The elderly Omura would answer the first question first... or at least try to. "Well, Japan has for decades been reliant on ressources from abroad and Tōhoku is no different. Trade with other nations is a necessity for our country and one that I plan to encourage. While it is pretty clear that the trade with the rest of the Empire will make up the greatest part of imports and exports, stable nations outside the Empire are not excluded and I'd think that diplomacy would be impossible. In regards to the Grand Republic, I sadly do not have a program yet." This would be followed by Yannasagi. "Free trade is a necessity and it is only in our best interest to engage in it. I would think that if the Grand Republic can offer competitive prices, sure one can trade." "While I don't know the Grand Republic much, I would say, that any stable and upright country could be a possible trading partner, but we should focus on keeping those ties alive that are predictable, secure and thus pose as little risk to our national security as possible. That would be the empire most of all.", Date finished. Yannasagi Makoto would then move on to the second question. "I would say, while we do have a certain responsibility to secure our country and provide support for the Empire, this does not mean that we should spend ourselves into bancruptcy on armed forces. Frankly, the Tianxian Empire has more than enough firepower to keep the region under control. Unless we are fighting phantoms here, we should focus more on improving the conditions of our people and the economy of our country." Omura nodded. "I see Yannasagi-san's point, we should not arm up too far. Our country has little domestic industry in regards to these systems and will need to import majorly from Southern Japan. The costs for fitting out armies are not to be underestimated and I think we better arm up over time, than to needlessly antagonise others." "Well, while the expenses are nothing to be laughed at, the idea to save money by already now cutting defense spending is not going to further us much. Rather the contrary will be the case. If we cannot keep our military in shape, this will not only cause unecessary death tolls, but also dissappoint the rest of East Asia. East Asia expects not of us to sit idly by, we are expected to provide reliable and competent support. While the armed forces are easily a moneysink, we should not pretent we got no no need for armed forces.", the leader of the conservatives threw in. Evangeline Anovilis
And as the election comes to an end, a report is published, the results would be published. Minshutō 45.4% Hoshutō 32.3% Jiyūtō 18.4% Independent 3.9% To His Imperial Highness Yuan Jia I, Emperor of Tianxia, With the conclusion of the election, we, the National Diet hereby give our recommendation for Prime Minister and Governor General for our country for your consideration. For Governor General, the consensus of all parties at this time was to nominate Konoe Nobuhisa, who has earned the respect of the Diet for his efforts and whom we would hope to act as a link between Tianxia and the Dai-Tōhoku Renpō, as well as to provide an impartial and uniting guidance to the nation in your place. As the elections have shown that most support lies with the Democratic Party, we recommend that the government be formed by Omura Junichi. This we decided in the first session of the Diet, as well as the second ratification of the constitution, including the terms suggested by His Imperial Highness. In representation of the Diet, Hasegawa Ren, Speaker of the Diet
