Rumors of the merge of the Rhodesya-Nyasaland Action Party with the Nyasaland United Front have been confirmed by the words of the Speaker of the Federal Assembly and Interim Governor of Nyasaland Hendrik Verwoerd, who announced the formation of a new political party to represent the Afrikaner minority (1548 according to the last census data, 23.9% of the total population) in the country.

The new movement will be known as Afrikaner Nasionale Party van Federale Republiek van Rhodesië-Njassaland or Afrikaner National Party of the Federal Republic of Rhodesia-Nyasaland and is expected to gain at least 10 seats out of 65 given the current situation in the Federal Assembly. The Federal Government presided by  Prime Minister John Wrathall, leader of the Rhodesian Front (which currently holds 40 seats in the Federal Assembly) believes the new Afrikaner National Party will never come to terms with the Rhodesia African National Congress (15 seats) to undermine the executive led by the Rhodesian Front.

However, at least three Ministers and several Rhodesian Front deputies have expressed the will to leave the majority and join the National Party. Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Henrik Hertzog, and Minister of Interior and State Security, Phillip van Heerden, have confirmed the decision, leading to a de-facto schism in the Rhodesian Front. Minister of Foreign Affairs Pieter van der Byl during the diplomatic mission in Athens said "no comment". He recently recovered from an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol.

Rhodesian Front's government in Rhodesia Nyasaland is at stake as Hendrik Verwoerd, Speaker of the Federal Assembly and Interim Governor General of Nyasaland, announced the formation of a new political party. The formation of the Afrikaner National Party of the Federal Republic of Rhodesia Nyasaland led the Rhodesian Front to face an unprecedented schism, undermining their overwhelming majority in the 65 seats Federal Assembly. The Rhodesian Front currently holds 40 seats as opposed to the 15 seats of the Rhodesia African National Congress and 10 seats of the Afrikaner National Party.

To undermine the government majority, the opposition seeks to obtain 33 votes in the Federal Assembly. With an unexpected move the Rhodesia National African Congress decided to support the Afrikaner National Party and force the State President to dissolve the Federal Assembly and call for new elections. At least 17 deputies of the Rhodesian Front have expressed their will to merge into the Afrikaner National Party, altering the political balance of the Rhodesian legislative assembly.

The new scenario predicts an Afrikaner National Party with 27 seats, a Rhodesia African National Congress with 15 seats and, for the first time, a weakened Rhodesian Front with only 23 MPs. In the following hours, the Federal Assembly will vote for the very survival of the Rhodesian Front-led executive.
