Evangeline Anovilis
As the sun slowly set for the people of Old Oak, a gentle breeze caused the banners off House Mayflower to rise once again. However, this was in no way representative of the actual House Mayflower. Even before the body of Timothy Mayflower was yet cold, the retainers started to worry and not without reason. Apart from his sole daughter Lynette, young and carefree, noone was there to succeed Lord Timothy. Throughout the town and across the coast the rumoring had started. What made the situation not any easier was that the Lady Lynette seemed to hide away in her chambers ever since the funeral of her father, leaving the day-to-day business to a council of her fathers most trustworthy men. Many knew that the day had been inevitable on which Lady Mayflower would succeed, but secretly, many had hoped that at least Sir Timothy would find a good spouse to take over... or even get a wife that would bear him a son. But all these hopes lay shattered. Lynette, while she had a certain reservation towards other people, prefering the sheltered environment of her library and private rose garden, was sadly aware of the expectations people had of her and the burden of the duty that the name Mayflower now carried weighed heavily on the shoulders of a maiden barely of age. Lynette sighed, as she looked out the window. It all seemed so surreal, yet it was the bitter reality that would not vanish, despite her wishes. Only a short while ago, she still was with her father, able to walk through life like a soft dream, but one olive had turned it all into the nightmare it was now. But Lynette knew, she could not stay in her chambers forever... Her own retainers had called upon her to return to her duties in the capital as a Lady-in-waiting. Surely, it was not becoming of a Lady of House Mayflower to be absend from her lands most of the time, but what else could she do? Not even the council knew...
