The Righteous Orators Legacy League - Season 4

The Righteous Orators Legacy League had its fourth annual draft on Sunday. Each team kept six players from last season, and selected 24 new players for their teams.

As before, the league is constructed as follows:
-Sixteen teams, in four divisions.
-QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, RB/WR/TE, RB/WR/TE, RB/WR/TE, K on offense.
-DB, DB, DB, DL, DL, DL, LB, LB, LB, DB/DL/LB, DB/DL/LB on defense.
-Seven bench spots to make a total of thirty players on each roster, plus four inactive injured players if necessary, so 480-544 players in the league total.
-Each team can keep up to six of its players at the end of the season to carry over into next season.

These are the four divisions, and the four teams in each division:

Alter Egos
Goldie (Brady's Lovechild) - VE
Gofastleft (Fisher's Stache) - NG
Emperor Brutus (Communist Rangers) - TOP
Daikos (Sea Baas on an Antrel Rolle) - Umb

Haf's Flingers
Janax (Jehovas Walrus) - R.I.P.
DylanCarter (Washington Sentinels) - Umb
Rondo (Hangin' With Riley Cooper) - VE
Sarkin (Cardiac Pack) - AB

Heroes of Time
The Warrior (Warriors) - IRON
Astriy (Snowden's Leaks) - Umb
Legend (Mushroom Entente) - VE
Magicninja (Magic's Ninjas) - GATO

Krack Heads
Niota (Aaron's Party (Come Kill It)) - Umb
Feanor (Catch-A-RIIIIIIDE!) - TOP
Canik (Beer For Friends) - FEAR
Shadow (Hell Will Freeze) - VE

Last season evil Niota stole the title game from my team, and claimed the Schattenmann Cup.

Here is a breakdown of each team, and my opinion of each of their strengths, weaknesses, and chances.

Goldie (Brady's Lovechild)

Key Players
QB - Andrew Luck
RB - David Wilson
RB - Doug Martin
RB - Shane Vereen
RB - Le'Veon Bell
WR - Danny Amendola
WR - Antonio Brown
WR - Kenbrell Thomkins

After starting off 4-2 in a soft division, my team hit its stride in midseason last year, and ripped off 7 straight wins to close out the regular season, including the two highest point totals in league history, en route to a heartbreaking championship game loss. After spending the offseason stockpiling draft picks, and rebuilding the team around last year's first rounders, Doug Martin and David Wilson, my team is primed to contend again for the title. With all of my marbles pinned on crucial sophomores, it becomes the eponymous slump that is what could bring my team down.

Gofastleft (Fisher's Stache)

Key Players
QB - Sam Bradford
RB - Darren Sproles
RB - DeMarco Murray
RB - Giovani Bernard
WR - Miles Austin
WR - Julio Jones

A brutal non-division schedule buried GFL's team last year, as they went 4-2 in division, but played (and lost to) five playoff teams in a row from weeks 4-8, refocusing his team on this season. The skill position players are sound, with Jones and Sproles poised for huge years, a hopefully healthy Murray on board, and the addition of rookie Hard Knocks phenom Giovani Bernard with his first round pick. Talent does fall off from there though, and the defense has some serious holes. Still, the team is looking decent, and while a division title might be a stretch, a wild card spot is very possible.

Emperor Brutus (Communist Rangers)

Key Players
QB - Philip Rivers
RB - Ray Rice
RB - Daniel Thomas
WR - Anquan Boldin
WR - Wes Welker
TE - Tony Gonzalez

Real strong case of boom or bust with EB's team. Will age finally creep up on the key players of this group, as can happen so quickly in the NFL, or will they continue to perform at their elite levels for another season (or more)? Rivers exemplifies this team, he can either put up huge fantasy numbers like he historically does, or he will continue the downward slide he has had the past couple of seasons. If the key players can stay healthy and produce alongside a sneaky-decent defense, the playoffs may be in reach.

Daikos (Sea Baas on an Antrel Rolle) - Umb

Key Players
QB - Robert Griffin
QB - Matt Schaub
RB - DeAngelo Williams
RB - Ryan Mathews
WR - Larry Fitzgerald
WR - Brandon Marshall
WR - Eric Decker

Daikos joined the league late in the offseason, but in time to make his mark, trading RB home-run threat Chris Johnson in a deal that brought back QB home-run threat Robert Griffin. With RG3 properly insured by Schaub's presence on the roster, and a strong receiving corps supplemented by heavy hitters on D like Charles Tillman and paul Pozluszny, Daikos can definitely play with anyone. But his achilles heel will be his lack of RB depth, and the questions surrounding the ones he has. Will Mathews finally produce results? Will DeAngelo use the ill-health of the rest of Carolina's RBs and cement the top role all season? Can Jacquizz get enough touches? For Daikos, they had better, because that's all he has.

Janax (Jehovas Walrus)

Key Players
QB - Michael Vick
RB - Adrian Peterson
RB - Arian Foster
WR - Reggie Wayne
WR - Roddy White
WR - Kenny Britt
WR - DeSean Jackson

After three straight division championships, Janax finally got out of the first round of the playoffs, where he ran into champion Niota. He definitely looks poised to build off of that, with top skill players, solid depth at the positions, and a hell of a rookie TE lineup with Sudfeld and Eifert. A lot is riding on Vick this year, and if he blows up in Kelly's new Philly offense, Janax can look to book much more than a ticket to the second round. If Vick does not, and either AP or Foster regresses back to being mortal human beings, it will fall on the young backup RBs Janax has stockpiled to pick up the pieces. Some could be bigtime players if injuries strike, like James in San Fran or Reece in Oakland, but its a risky move for sure, in a vastly improved division.

DylanCarter (Washington Sentinels)

Key Players
QB - Ben Roethlisberger
QB - Cam Newton
RB - Jamaal Charles
RB - C.J. Spiller
RB - Matt Forte
RB - Lamar Miller
RB - Bilal Powell

DC has made his move for the championship this season, moving a lot of assets for picks, and building one hell of a RB roster, and a sneaky-deep WR core as well. Skill positions are totally covered for him, with the strongest RB nucleus in the game, with Charles and Spiller poised for potentially massive years, Forte looking to hopefully thrive behind Chicago's new O-line, and Miller taking the reins in Miami. Golden Tate, Chris Givens, and DeAndre Hopkins provide a young, high upside receiving core that DC will need to lock down the division and make his run, but those guys are studs. The defense could be a bit of an issue, but those problems can be solved mid-season, and he has the depth needed to make trades as necessary. Scary team.

Rondo (Hangin' With Riley Cooper)

Key Players
QB - Aaron Rodgers
RB - Stevan Ridley
RB - Bernard Pierce
WR - James Jones
WR - Victor Cruz

After a run to the playoffs last season, look for Rondo's team to take a small step back, due mostly to how much stronger the division is this season than it was last season. Rodgers will himself keep him in a lot of weeks, and Ridley looks poised to dominate, but there's a lot of question marks past those two and Victor Cruz. The Crabtree injury certainly didn't help him, and he will be missing the kind of depth that Janax and DC enjoy in the division when he plays them twice each.

Sarkin (Cardiac Pack)

Key Players
QB - Colin Kaepernick
RB - Eddie Lacy
WR - Vincent Jackson
WR - Pierre Garcon
TE - Vernon Davis

Sarkin took over Kowalski's perennially unlucky team, and made some moves that hopefully get him set on the right course for the future, but this season will be a hard one. Eddie Lacy with the first overall pick was huge, as close to a guaranteed long-term keeper as it gets. Kaepernick could also blossom into a top-5 QB this season, which would give him the start of a keeper base that would have most of the league jealous. Sean Lee and Luke Kuechly will get consistent points on D, but the fact is that there just isn't enough skill depth to make much noise this season, unless injuries create lots of opportunities for some of his backups.

The Warrior (Warriors)

Key Players
QB - Tom Brady
RB - BenJarvus Green-Ellis
RB - Fred Jackson
WR - Demaryius Thomas
TE - Rob Gronkowski

Warrior has his work cut out for him. Outside of the Patriots connection of Brady and Gronk, and Thomas out in Denver, theres questions, RBBC, and injuries all over. He needs the Law Firm to take control of the committee, and to see Spiller and/or CJ2K go down, to open up room for Shonn Greene/Jackson. Brandon Myers is an interesting player and could help, and I like Knowshon Moreno's potential if he can hold off Montee Ball/Ronnie Hillman to be Peyton's favorite back. Other than that, not a lot of bright spots.

Astriy (Snowden's Leaks)

Key Players
QB - Eli Manning
RB - Mark Ingram
RB - Alfred Morris
WR - Dwayne Bowe
WR - Dez Bryant
WR - Cecil Shorts
WR - Greg Jennings
WR - Hakeem Nicks
TE - Jimmy Graham

An absolutely studly receiving corps, combined with divisional realignment that moved Niota out of his division, has Astriy thinking division title this season. His RBs are no joke either, as Ingram may finally get the chance to prove he is an actual NFL running back, and Morris looks to build on last season with a huge sophomore effort. Jordan Cameron combines with Graham to give him a top TE combo, and guys like Joique Bell, Knile Davis, and Joseph Randle are injuries-to-injury-prone players away from huge workloads. The defense might be what holds him back though, as if Morris doesn't have a huge year, and those backup RBs don't get their chances, he will have a hard time consistently scoring points.

Legend (Mushroom Entente)

Key Players
QB - Matt Ryan
QB - Andy Dalton
RB - Frank Gore
RB - LeSean McCoy
WR - Calvin Johnson
WR - Marques Colston

Legend inherited a thoroughbred racehorse with this team, with TBRaiders leaving after three very successful seasons. In a weaker division, the talent inherited alone is almost worth enough wins to be in the playoff hunt. The moves made though leave something to be desired, as there isn't any RB depth beyond the starters, and WR looks like a tough spot after the top 3. Defense looks like it will be a hole as well, Legend definitely has a lot of work to do to get his team ready to contend for real.

Magicninja (Magic's Ninjas)

Key Players
QB - Matthew Stafford
RB - Steven Jackson
RB - Reggie Bush
RB - Ahmad Bradshaw
RB - Ben Tate
WR - Mike Wallace
DL - J.J. Watt

MN finally sees a division without TBR and Niota, and imagines finally a day when his team can rise to the top. And honestly, from top to bottom, it looks like this is the best team he has had yet. Stafford is primed for a huge year, and having Bush on the team as well will mean a lot of double-points for him. Ben Tate could end up as a top-10 RB if Foster isn't healthy. WRs aren't as great as the rest of his team, but he makes up for it with probably the best D-Line ever assembled in this league, with Watt, Cameron Wake, and Jared Allen. The rest of the D is solid as well, and those consistent points will enable his star players to win him a lot of weeks. Look out for this team in the playoffs.

Niota (Aaron's Party (Come Kill It))

Key Players
QB - Russell Wilson
RB - Marshawn Lynch
WR - Andre Johnson
WR - A.J. Green
WR - Torrey Smith

Niota emerged from the toughest division in the league to run through the playoffs and capture the third Schattenmann Cup (exactly as I had predicted last season during the writeup!), and looks to repeat in a much easier division this season, after having been moved to the Krack Heads from the Heroes of Time division. His team took an early blow when his top keeper TE decided to murder someone and get caught doing it, however, so he started down a man, and had to scramble to pick up the pieces. His defense will help him succeed in the division, and Beast Mode should have another huge season, so all is seemingly ok for Niota, although a repeat will have long odds at this point.

Feanor (Catch-A-RIIIIIIDE!)

Key Players
QB - Tony Romo
RB - Maurice Jones-Drew
RB - Chris Johnson
RB - Daryl Richardson
WR - Stevie Johnson
TE - Jason Witten
DL - Calais Campbell

Feanor jumped into the league head-first, taking over a team late, but putting his mark on it. Inheriting a RB-barren team, he made moves for MJD and CJ2K, both who look to have great seasons. Richardson looks as well to be poised for a breakout, and Romo is still an elite fantasy QB, regardless of personal feelings for his placeholding skills. I'd like to see more RB depth, but the three horses he has, if healthy, should provide more than enough scoring from the position. Feanor is well-positioned for the playoffs, and maybe more.

Canik (Beer For Friends)

Key Players
QB - Peyton Manning
RB - Trent Richardson
RB - Chris Ivory
WR - Steve Smith
WR - Randall Cobb

Canik had a huge turnaroud last year, led by Peyton Manning's resurgence, and Trent Richardson's solid rookie year. Both look to put up big numbers again, and Canik has done a good jump of supplementing them. Ivory and Rashard Mendenhall have every opportunity in the world to lock down their starting roles, and should add solid value. Tavon Austin can be a keeper for years to come if he thrives in the Amendola role in St. Louis. In Aaron Dobson and Zach Ertz, he took a couple of flyers on rookies who really could be something. Sadly he won't get to see Dennis Pitta again until next season, but he is set up for playoff competition for the next couple of years.

Shadow (Hell Will Freeze)

Key Players
QB - Drew Brees
QB - Joe Flacco
RB - Darren McFadden
RB - Montee Ball
WR - Jordy Nelson

The rest of the division's gain might be Shadow's pain, although his team has depth in all of the right places and can beat most anyone in any week. Brees should be a monster this year, and in Ball, Mike Tolbert, and Isaac Redman, he has 3 RBs who could weasel into starting/very productive roles very easily, to go with McFadden, who when caring/healthy is a beast, but who knows when he will be either of those things. Good all around defensive depth will help him stay in close games, and T.Y. Hilton, Brian Hartline, and Kyle Rudolph represent guys who could easily lead their teams in receptions.

And finally, for my Totally Out Of Nowhere Predictions:

Alter Egos Division Champ: Too much top to bottom talent, Goldie wins the division a second year in a row.
Haf's Flingers Division Champ: Janax starts off stronger, but his reign is ended by DylanCarter.
Heroes of Time Division Champ: Astriy has the guns and holds off MN to take the division.
Krack Heads Division Champ: Injuries catch up to Feanor, but in his rookie season he backs into the division title.

Schattenmann Cup Winner: DylanCarter over Goldie in points scored in the last game, and in 2014 first rounders stockpiled.
