Locked to all, bar Horo the Wise Wolf and Voodoo Nova
Greetings, fair nation.

We are a people that reside in hubs around Lake Michigan. Through much we have persevered and developed, and would like to request a meeting, to discuss the sovereignty of the lands in which we reside. We would very much appreciate it if this were to occur.

Yours,
Wu Zetian

Patricia was wary of such a letter, but would send a message to the man seeking a meeting.

You will be welcomed in Houston, Texas, to discuss the sovereignty of the region. You will meet with Eduardo Baca, the Director General for North American Affairs.

Signed,
Patricia Espinosa

After informing North American Affairs of his route, Alain Alan arrived in Houston to discuss independence. His hands shook softly - the task had been given to him to ensure Nienami's Independence, and he hoped that he would be able to persuade this mega-nation to give way to allow them to do so.

"Welcome. You may have a seat" said Eduardo.

"Now, state your case."

Alain almost faltered - was he the right man for the job? Was he even capable to do this? Why even bother? But, he took a deep breath, and begin speaking.

"Sir, we hold a large population of those who wish to prosper forwards. We have enjoyed the fair treatment which has always been afforded by the state, but we feel that we can now look after ourselves, and in such a way that we can properly represent and provide for our people. We have held discussions for how this would work, and feel that we have deliberated enough such that any and all flaws in our system-to-be have been dealt with as best as possible. We feel that we can best provide for those within, and they feel so too.

However, we understand that Mexico may not wish for a sudden part of its territory to leave its rule - perhaps we can come to some kind of agreement?"

"All systems have flaws, they are inevitable and to believe you have removed all loopholes is unrealistically idealistic at best. How will your government proceed, should the people of the territory vote in favor of starting their own nation? How will you provide for them? What of the indigenous people of the region?"

"We are the indigenous people. It is us that wish for this move forward.

As for the Government's first moves - we will start up the state-run services, such as Healthcare and Civil Protection, and ensure that they are running at a suitable level. We will then sink into the maintenance of these services, and ensure our people will be able to prosper. From there, we will leave people to attend to their lives as they see fit, whilst upholding the common law and intervening in events if necessary."

"You do not know the people of your region. The Chippewa have lived there for centuries. How can you not know or understand the issues of your region if you don't even know who first settled there, long before you or I were even born? No matter what you think you can do for a nation, you can do nothing unless you care about the indigenous peoples who live there."

Alain tilted his head in confusion. "No, it is you that do not know the people of the region. The Ojibwe long ago found new pastures, which they had to, after conflict grew between them. Most of them went to the Cree, some to the Potawatomi, and some approached us.

I, myself, am Ojibwe - we know of all who live within our borders, and reach out to them, that we have made sure of."

"Sir,

You are not Chippewa, and it is extremely disheartening you would use their status as the indigenous people to attempt to rule the region. Your records from our government, and local governments, indicate no one in your family is of the Ojibwe people.

You are also ignorant to the populations of the Ojibwe. Many reside in Michigan and Wisconsin. The Potawatomi tribes live in southern Michigan and in southern Wisconsin. The original Chippewa tribes live in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, while the Odawa tribes live across Michigan."

With that said, Eduardo would motion for his protection to come over. "AcompaƱe a fuera este hombre."

"We are done with this meeting. You will be escorted out. Next time, I suggest you spend time with the local population, learning about them, and understanding who they are, before you ask to meet with Mexico again."
