The Kingdom of Bhutan rises

The time of the Kingdom of Bhutan remaining silent was over and so Wong Xui, the elderly and strong king and ruler of Bhutan, made a very public broadcast to the whole world. Stepping up to a wooden platform built in the front of Tashichoedzong, which was the current seat of the Bhutan government, King Xui stroked one hand down his lengthy beard as he stood still before the cameras his bright yellow robe seeming to glow in the sunlight. "Members of the world" he began "I King Wong Xui come before you today to announce that the Kingdom of Bhutan shall now be joining the world and its affairs. For a long time we have been silent within the territory of the glorious Tianxia empire but now it is time we made ourselves known."

"The Kingdom of Bhutan has been granted the right to exist thanks to the benevolence and generosity of the Emperor Jia and Empress Theresia, may the golden spirits watch over them and grant them eternal fortitude and greatness, and we now wish to open relations with other nations as well. Thus I would like to invite the rulers or representatives of the other global nations to attend a banquet here in Tashichoedzong to mark the new beginning for Bhutan. All nations are invited though I ask that anyone who wishes to bring a security detail please bring only one or two members at most as security will be provided by the Royal Bhutan Army."

"If any visitors have any requests or wishes they want to make please feel free to contact the Royal Bhutan political assembly who will deal with any and all requests. Thank you for listening and I hope to see many of you soon." And with that King Xui turned and stepped down from the platform and made his way back inside the monastery whilst the journalists and camera crews went back to the capital city to make their reports.

In other news the Royal Bhutan Army made its first official report to the Bhutan government on its numbers and equipment. In total they could safely claim that the RBA now consisted of seventy six thousand trained men and woman ready to defend the nation and possessed a small armoured force of one hundred and sixty armoured battle tanks along with numerous other military equipment. The Royal Bhutan Airforce was very small at this current time with only thirty fighter planes and twenty bombers and the Royal Bhutan Navy was all but non-existent as the nation was landlocked though planes for two assault class ships to be housed in Tianxia were underway.

The Royal Bhutan transportation and industry association was happy to report that progress was continuing on repairing and upgrading Bhutan's infrastructure and that many of the land's dirt roads were now being converted to asphalt and there were plans for a nation wide railway system to be implemented with the coming months as long as funding continued and weather conditions remained favorable.

Inside of Tashichoedzong King Xui sat with his wife Queen Chang and his daughter Princess Diao and son Prince Cao, all of them were sat barefooted enjoying the afternoon meal as they always did. Though the royal family were the technical rulers of the kingdom King Xui left the actual governing to Prime Minister Sima Yi who was quite the skilled man for running the nation and with his ambition Xui was certain that the land was in good hands. In fact his attention was currently focused on the grand banquet he had planned and today that was the subject that came up during the family's meal. Downing his now empty dish of rice Xui opened up the conversation by speaking first "So my dear daughter tell me how many responses have we had to our invitations to attend our banquet" he asked with a warm smile.

Diao looked down at her clasped hands as a look of apology crossed her face "I am sorry father but so far we have not received any replies" and as she saw the smile slip from her father's face she tried her best to comfort him and reduce the blow. "I am sure it is only because many are still trying to work a response to your last message. It is still early days yet" she added flashing him a smile of her own. "That is no excuse" quickly said Cao his hot headed nature breaking through as usual much to Diao's annoyance and she quickly silenced any further comments with a glare.

Chang having to be the peacemaker once again rested one hand each on the shoulder of her husband and son as she spoke. "Come we should not fight or be too upset as our wonderful daughter has said it is early days yet. Spirits willing we will have some replies soon and if not we will still have our guests from the clans and outer towns attending".

With that said the family went back to their meal in silence each one concentrating on their own inner thoughts and feelings and once the meal was finished they all departed in their own ways to go about whatever business concerned them.

Mr Patrick Aurora the Kingdom of Bhutan would gladly and warmly accept Ambassador Sergey Artyom and his accompanying aides to our banquet. Pending confirmation from Tianxia, Selenarctos extends diplomatic recognition to the Kingdom of Bhutan. On behalf of the President, you are invited to send representation to Manila to discuss trade arrangements if you so desire.

King Wong Xui is most grateful for the provisional recognition by the nation of Selenarctos and he hopes for Tianxia to grant world wide recognition when the time is right for them. As to trade agreements an ambassador from the Royal Diplomatic Association will be chosen and sent to Manila immediately to begin the process of working out a trade agreement.

The time for the banquet had come and the inner halls of the fortress monastery of Tashichoedzong were filled with flags and banners of Bhutan and in the main chambers tables had been put out with many different dishes of food from all over the nation. There was something for everyone not matter if they were a vegetarian or a meat lover they would find something. Many different wines and other beverages were also made available some of them local varieties and others had been brought in by Bhutan traders and the royal family made themselves available through out all of Tashichoedzong so that any guests arriving could find someone to talk and discuss with.

The royal family were not the only ones attending however, as the many clans that inhabited the nation also sent representatives whether they be actual clan family members or high ranking bondsmen. There were many clans that attended but the majority of them were of minor status and the only real clans that had any power were the clans of Wolf, Jaguar and Dragon. All three of these had sent a clan family representative and a party of lower bondsmen as escort and each clan had distanced themselves from one another. Of them Clan Wolf was the most approachable greeting anyone who went to them for discussion though they talked to them in the usual major clan way of arrogance but they were still better than Dragon who refused to talk and merely watched the others and much better than the Jaguar who not only refused to talk to anyone but the royal family but angrily dismissed anyone else.

For now King Xui stood alone at the entrance to the monastery as he eagerly awaited the representative from the Maritime Republic of J Andres who had been the only nation to state that they would be attending. Wong was still disheartened by that fact but refused to let it bother him at the banquet and whilst his family kept the clans entertained he would see about meeting the first foreign visitors to the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Ambassador Sergey Artyom was accompanied by the heir apparent, Princess Katherine. The royal's presence on the trip was surprising to most, but likely at the insistence of her mother, the Queen. Two Members of Anchor Security were also in attendance. The plane ride was long and the delegation was exhausted, but thankfully they had arrived early and had spent the afternoon recuperating.

As the delegation approached Tashichoedzong, Ambassador Artyom turned to the Princess, "You mother desires that you learn the ropes of international diplomacy. I insist that you follow my lead and allow me to do most of the talking," he said, looking at the royal with intense eyes.

Katherine glared back in return, "Just because I'm a princess doesn't mean I am brain dead Sergey," she said. "I'll let you introduce me and then I shall present the gift from my mother."

"And then you shall return to silence, unless you are specifically asked a question," Sergey replied. "Is this understood your highness?"

The princess nodded her head in resignation. The delegation approached the walls of Tashichoedzong.

As the J Andres delegation's vehicle drove up to the front of Tashichoedzong King Xui waved to the nearby royal band to begin playing the Bhutan royal anthem as was the usual customary greeting of foreign delegations. As the music notes rang out into the air King Xui descended the steps so that as the car pulled to a stop he was already there to greet his guests. When the ambassador, the princess and their security stepped out of the car the King would bow sharply from the waist before rising and opening his arms wide to encompass the whole party.

"Welcome to the Kingdom of Bhutan my honoured guests it is a welcome sight to see you all attending. You must Ambassador Sergey Artyom who I was told about and these men are your security guards I take it." said Wong before noticing the young woman in attendance with Sergey, it was clear to him that she was no simple assistant as she held herself up too highly for that. Masking the confusion from his voice he turned to this woman before speaking directly to her. "I am afraid I was not informed of any other visitors attending may I have the pleasure of asking for your name madam?"

Katherine returned the courtesy bow upon the King's arrival.

"Your Majesty," she began, "I am Katherine, Princess of Puerto Pacis. Let me apologize on behalf of Minister Aurora and our nation of not informing you of my presence here prior to just now. My mother wished for the crown to be represented here, as it is the Kingdom of Bhutan we are visiting."

She glanced around at the surrounding area, truly allowing herself to admire the surroundings, "Tashisho...Tashikho...Tashichoedzong is a very beautiful place, Your Majesty. I adore the tranquil atmosphere, and your anthem that was just playing is delightful." She reached behind her back and removed a small statute, "I urge you to accept this small token of friendship from our people. It is the Maritime Anchor of J Andres."

The small statue stood about 18" tall atop a small marble-like stone. The Anchor itself glinted in the sunlight as it was made in solid gold, or at least appeared to be. Surrounding the anchor, held in place by thin metal rods, were a series of thirteen stars, each as golden as the anchor itself.

Ambassador Artyom, who had been silent throughout the exchange, spoke loudly, "Your Majesty, we are most grateful for your invitation. We are very excited about your new beginning as we are going through a beginning of our own so to speak. Our fifth beginning, if it is appropriate to call it that. I'm sure our two nations, separated by hemisphere are actually quite similar in this regard."

King Xui would take the offered gift with a warm and friendly smile and offered both thanks for the gift and his apologies for not having anything of equal value to offer in return. Taking his place just before the group he would lead them inside the monastery building itself before then taking them to meet the rest of the royal family. Inside the main hall he waved his family over and introduced his wife, son and daughter in turn before he could continue however, an adviser arrived and the King made his apologies for having to step to one side saying about trouble to the south. His wife Chang took over the conversation though as the King left to deal with the business brought to him.

"Welcome to Bhutan your highness, ambassador. My husband tells me that you have recently established yourselves like ourselves I was wondering if you would perhaps tell me a little about the Maritime Republic of J Andres as our similar situations are quite interesting wouldn't you agree?" asked Chang.

Meanwhile the King was busy being briefed about the rebellion by the Japanese in Tianxia and how others had sided with them against Emperor Jia and Empress Theresia. Worried that the rebellion may come to Bhutan the King ordered the 252nd Guards Motorised Rifles Regiment to be immediately mobilised and readied to either counter any rebel forces attempting entry to Bhutan or if required to go to Tianxia to assist the Tianxia Emperor in putting down the rebellion. For now they would gather at their staging area to await further orders.

The ambassador smiled warmly at Chang, the King's wife and began to recite the long history of J Andres, "Our history is a long one. It is a history full of success and failure, triumph and defeat. Seventy-two years ago, in 1981, the grandfather of our Princess Katherine, Josef I founded the nation at our present day capital in Endor Cuidad. Of course he wasn't King Josef then, just a brilliant military leader named Josef Mercton. Over the next couple decades, J Andres grew large and powerful, spanning much of the east coast of North America. J Andres grew to such a large size, that controlling the territory became difficult, and in in the years leading up to 2010, our President began ceding vast stretches of land, until we were about the size we were today. After so many years of investing in infrastructure for territory that was outside of our borders, the nation fell, and a new nation, New England took control of the territory. Six years later, in 2016, Josef Mercton's son, Richard Mercton took the Presidency and gained J Andres independence from New England. Unfortunately, Richard Mercton valued his own power over the will of the people, and his government collapsed nine years later. However, the rest of New England collapsed as well and in 2025 the entire region united as the Third Maritime Republic of J Andres. Once again, J Andres was strong and expanding. However, it was short lived again, lasting for only 7 years."

"Later in the same year, Princess Katherine's mother, Queen Stephanie ascended to the throne and attempted a fourth time to resurrect our nation. She showed great leadership and promise, however a rogue nuclear attack in the following year crippled our struggling nation once again to the point of collapse in 2035."

"Most recently, last year in 2052, we reformed again. We only hope we are not doomed to the same destiny as the first through fourth republics, and hope that this Fifth Maritime Republic of J Andres will be one that last for centuries. We have been investing in public works projects and our businesses are thriving. We are very optimistic about our current prospects," the ambassador turned to Katherine, "Did I miss anything?"

The Princess shook her head and said, "No, I do believe you've got it all Ambassador. We are thankful for your kind invitation to your home. We understand that your history is slightly more recent, would you care to explain?"

Chang and her children listened silently to the Ambassador taking in everything he said, hanging on to each word with real interest. When he finished Chang smiled and a sense of wonder had entered her voice. "My that is such a tale, to have gone through so much and still go on. I believe that there is a lesson hidden within your history that no matter what comes upon us we should never give up as for our own history I am sorry to say that it is nowhere as interesting as your own. The Kingdom of Butan came about when myself and my husband, who are natives of this land, were granted permission of Emperor Jia and Empress Theresia of Tianxia to establish our own kingdom. To our great joy the people have agreed with our rule and after establishing a more centralised government the land has been quite peaceful. Though I fear some events are occuring in Tianxia that could threaten our peaceful ways" replied Chang turning to give the direction her husband had gone a quick glance.

"An interesting history is not necessary a happy one," the Princess reminded Chang, "We can only hope that your rule will be harmonious and long. One might even go as far to say, uneventful." She smiled to ensure that the true meaning of her statement was understood, and not lost as a linguistic nuance.

The Ambassador turned his attention to the direction that Chang was looking, "Will your husband be returning shortly? I was hoping we would be able to discuss some sort of arrangements, but if there are more pressing matters we certainly understand. We thank you for your hospitality thus far."

It was at just that moment when Wong Xui returned with an apologetic smile on his face as he stepped up to the Princess and the ambassador his hands held before him as he came to a rest. "My apologies for that, some unpleasant business was brought to my attention but it has been dealt with now. If you would like I could take you on a short tour of the monastery or we could get something to eat from the banquet if you would prefer" he offered the two of them.

The Foreign Affairs Minister dropped one of his hands down to his larger than average stomach, "I think the banquet might be a good idea!" he said with a smile.
The Princess rolled her eyes.
Minister Aurora, in a much happier mood after the announcement of food asked the King, "If you were to name the top three goals that you have for your nation that are achievable in the next 3-5 years, what would they be?"

"Please follow me then" replied the King as he turned and with his family lead the minister and the princess into the main room where they would be met with the sight of rows of tables lavished with foods of all types on different plates and dishes. The food had been brought from all over the nation for the visitors to try and they had expected a lot more guests than had actually turned up so there was plenty to go around. The minister and princess would be able to choose everything from starters to main dishes to desserts and with a smile the King swept the entire room under his arm.

"All of this is available for you both to try. Have as much as you wish there is no limit. As to your question minister I would say my top three goals would be to expand our nations infrastructure and technology and to increase diplomatic relations with other nations of the world. I had hoped this banquet would help towards that last goal but alas it seems to have been a failure apart from yourselves of course" replied King Xui with a hint of sadness in his voice and features.

The eyes of the round little Minister nearly exploded at the sight of the all the food. "We wouldn't want all of this to go to waste!" he said as he licked his lips. The Princess gave Minister Aurora a swift kick in the leg. "This banquet was a noble attempt at diplomacy. But I must say, it has not been a total failure. I," he glanced at the Princess, "We believe that the interests of Bhutan and J Andres are very much in line with each other. We may be a world apart, and, mutual defense agreements would hardly be effective considering the distance that separates us, but I do believe other economic agreements would certainly be beneficial for both of our nations."

Minister Aurora was already filling his mouth with food, and Princess Katherine needed to continue for him, "And through educational and research partnerships, our nations will be able to create new medicines and technologies faster than we could separately." She smiled as she let her eyes wander around the room, "I really love your country, and our nations share a future together. I certainly hope this will not be my last visit to Bhutan," she smiled as she picked up her fork and prepared to eat. She felt like an eternity had passed since they had first arrived.

As the King and his family guided the Minister and the Princess to a table bare of any food and clearly for the seating of guests they all took to their seats and began to eat with the representatives of J Andres. As his family eat in almost silence the King would reply to both the Minister and the Princess. "Minister what you offer is a sound and great idea to my ears though I fear that the Kingdom of Bhutan would be getting more out of any agreements than J Andres would due to our limited resources" the King would then turn to the Princess before continuing. "Your highness you and any other citizens of your nation are of course welcome to come visit our nation any time you wish. Of course perhaps next time my staff could be informed if royalty would be visiting so we could have an appropriate welcome made ready." The last comment he said with a smile to show he was not being offensive.
