Top 25 Disbanded Alliances

In light of the recently reformed NAAC, I present to you a thread that I wish I would have completed last year. The 'Top 25 Disbanded Alliances'.

Good afternoon my fellow old coots. This issue will be different than my usual OCWL publications. I will be counting down the top 25 disbanded alliances.

During our time on Planet Bob, we see alliances come and go. Some alliances make a huge impact on the world with their disbandment notice, others are soon forgotten about after they cease to be. This is an old coots' view on the 25 best alliances that have come and gone since the conception of Planet Bob. I based the rank of the these alliances on their stats, political impact and most importantly, their community.


And yes, I'm throwing Anathema in there. $%&@ you all. There is a reason for it. There are leaders of today's alliances and of old (besides the tools sheltered in & around DH) who understand why Anathema was important and what it could have represented...but we'll get to that.


Starting at #25, a short summary will be supplied and I will give an explanation on why I feel the alliance deserves the spot I gave them. Every day I will move onto the next alliance to give my explanation as to why they got the ranking they got. (Example: I will explain #24 tomorrow, and #23 on Thursday, etc)

This project ended up being a major "cause" of the Green Civil War and the destruction of the Viridian Entente.

Not only was this alliance a big role in one of the cruelest/bloodiest alliance genocides in our history, but also is important as it marks only the 2nd time that a sanctioned alliance tried to make a colony alliance. (More recent cases of this is FOK-iFOK/WTF-WTF2)[/size]

EDIT: Do to the time period at which this piece was written, I didn't include some alliances that should be included. Athens, Poison Clan, Asgaard, and iFOK all deserve to be on the list. Athens would have been up at #13, pushing everyone else back. PC would have been #21, pushing everyone else behind them back. Asgaard and iFOK would then be an honorable mention.

I would argue that NPO's heyday was during The Initiative, and a big chunk of these alliances are from The Initiative. (But like you said, the same chunk would lend a hand at trying to dethrone them)

Like them or not (GGA), they were relevant back in the day...even if they were an awful alliance.

I would throw Norden Verein in there in addition to the first Nordreich though. As well as the old TGE.

My only question is why are VE and NoR included, were the first iterations really different enough to consider the ones that formed afterwards a totally different alliance? I don't mention GOONS since the letters stood for different words. It is nice to see someone take the time to do something like this and remember the past though.

VE is much different now then it was the first go-around.

NoR is currently a shell.

So has VE. So has TIO. So has NAAC. There is a long list of alliances that have reformed after their initial disbandment, but they are definitely entirely separate alliances, sharing only the same name and shred of a history or culture they once had. Very rarely if ever is an alliance formed that is identical to its predecessor.

Did you really put Nemesis onto this list?

While the alliance was active in its early days it never became cohesive, statistically strong, or politically relevant aside from Hoo's connections. Once the three original triums left (fairly early into its existence mind you) the alliance crumbled and stuck around far too long.

Also, what did someone like Kronos do to deserve such a high spot? I always just thought of them as raiders and a nuclear rogue haven/war slot filling alliance. It also seemed like they couldn't hold onto a government like Nemesis.

It's not a terrible list, but you forgot (or purposefully left out) some alliances and screwed up the placements on others. You could get a lot of space back on the list if you'd take off the alliances that currently exist.
