President Espen Varin passed away peacefully into the night on 12/26/11 after a hearty holiday celebration with the Royal Family, The cause of death had been ruled as a heart attack. After his passing the Government of the Federation of Arctic Nations had a large problem on their hands. The Cabinent and Ministry who ran the nation were all competing to get leadership of the Nation. The Nation effectively had not been notified of their leaders death as it was needed to get a replacement leader before the information was put out there. The Ministers debated effectively for hours until an associate minister leaked to the Press that Espen Varin had passed away. FNN had broadcasted to the nation the Espen had passed away and great panic spread throughout Spitsbergen.

The Government's main problem had been that a Government Charter was delayed and delayed until something like this had happened. There had been no replacements suggested as of yet. Espen Varin's daughter was a strong sovereign woman who thought she "has the right to the Throne of the Federation". Espins daughter had plans of a conserative monarchy policies to dominate the nation. She was a strong supporter of the Monarchist party despite her father's ideologies. With strong financial backing from the Monarchist Party, Maria Vinter pushed harder to get her power hungry policies into place. This would come under heavy fire from Centrist Party Leader Hulack Melanshire. Hulack believed in a mix of conservative and liberal/socialist policies. Hulack was greatly hated in Spitsbergen for not making his mind up on decsisions until the deadline.

Lastly, Kelsey Vinter, another daughter who strongly supported her dad's Socialist Policies was also fighting for power. The Minister backed up Kelsey and gave her the strongest foot holding for power in the fight for dominance of The Federation. Kelsey with support of her fellow cabinent who served under her father wouldn't be enough to Silence Hulak and Maria. There would be a stronger fight, and Maria was not one for allowing people to vote for their leader. Maria had threatened her sister, Kelsey, to stand down or face great consequences under her ruling. Maria went on to pass her first policy as a leader, even though many people wouldn't follow her. Maria had already started collecting taxes from people in the nation. Maria began recruiting soldiers to fight for her and would give them payment bi-monthly. Kelsey saw Maria's threats begin to take action and the Ministry of Federation Passed their first policy that was post-Varin's Death to counter Maria's treason against her sister's rulings. The first policy passed by the Cabinent and Senate was that Kelsey would gain full control over the AAF (Arctic Armed Forces). Kelsey began aggressively arresting and pursing Maria's band of followers by charging them with treason against the Federation. Maria was chased around the nation aswell with her followers tagging behind. Maria had began setting up underground forts and strongholds along the borders of Spitsbergen in order to fight against Kelsey. Hulak began passing out flyers and giving speeches as well as radio broadcasts in hopes to persuade the people of Spitsbergen with Propaganda. It was mutually understood by all parties that war was on the horizon for The Federation of Arctic Regions.

[size="4"][b]Spitsbergen in Shambles, Kelsey Assassinated, Maria Shot down[/b][/size][/center]

11:48 PM, Spitsbergen Financial District began becoming a warfare zone. Maria's rebel forces entered the district targeting polcie and military buildings. Bombs rang out large explosions into the air. The blasts killed Kelsey as she visited her favorite store in Spitsbergen. Maria had known and seen her sister entering the store. A gun battle occured between Maria and Kelsey's forces. Kelsey's forces had now been known as leaderless. Maria began taking over the financial district and began robbing civilians on the streets to fund her campaign. Maria began pressing forward and killing numerous soldiers of the AAF. Maria had taken complete control over the Financial district until one of the men she robbed showed up at her compoud and shot Maria down. Maria's guards had returned fire at the man and killed him. Maria and Kelsey were both dead. Both armies were leaderless and began fighting against each other over political occupation. Nationalist Parties began rising up and fighting with both parties. Spitsbergan began taking large amounts of infrastructural damage.

"In the interests of continuing regional stability, the People's Union of Sweden hereby requests that the parties involved in this civil crisis allow for the securing of vital FAR infrastructure, including airports, and seaports, by Swedish security forces, and to allow humanitarian supplies to be stockpiled and distributed amongst the population. We call upon the political factions that are engaged in this bloodshed to try to reopen dialogue, so no more pain will be inflicted upon the people of Svalbard or any other citizens of this archipelagic nation. Should a confirmation response be tendered, these forces will be bringing extra humanitarian supplies, including food, medicine, communications equipment, and daily essentials. Security forces will be under a strict mandate, and will only maintain security around these vital entry points into the Federation, so as to allow the free flow of humanitarian aid if this conflict resumes for much longer.

We will stand by our brothers and sisters of our Nordic community when their need is great, and we will not go home until their safety is assured, whether it be by our hand, or by the hands of a new government that is elected by the people of Svalbard. The Federation of Arctic Regions has spoken up and stood up for what it believed in since its inception, and while we may not have agreed with one another from time to time, the resilience of the people of Svalbard to stand up for their own independent ideas is commendable. Our condolences go out to the people of the Federation of Arctic Regions who have lost their leader, and we hope will soon see an end to this civil crisis."

Whether or not the request was accepted, the Swedish Grand Fleet, or at least vanguard elements of the fast reaction forces, including the [i]Lutzen[/i] carrier battlegroup, which included significant amounts of surface ships, would depart Gothenberg within six hours of the announcement being tendered to the world, as naval forces needed time to get into positions of support. Within twenty-four hours, two roll-on/roll-off vehicle cargo ships had been loaded with emergency stocks of humanitarian relief supplies, including freeze-dried meals, medical equipment, and other basic staples needed to mount such operations. The [i]Lutzen[/i] battlegroup, which included the battle-hardened Marine Expeditionary Unit 2, fresh from counter-insurgency operations in the Aaland Archipelago, would steam ahead of the humanitarian vessels, steaming at full speed in formation.

As information was spotty about all the happenings on Svalbard, SARC-135 strategic intelligence aircraft began immediately diverting from patrols in Northern Sweden, to gather signals intelligence on happenings in what appeared to be the downfall of the Federation of Arctic Regions. These aircraft, utilizing Sweden's continuing defense agreement with Norway-Denmark, would pass quickly through that nation's airspace, and would be lightly escorted by SAF-1 fighters from the 1st Fighter Group, flying loose, forward escort in groups of two at varying altitudes. Air-to-air refueling aircraft would be scrambled to assist in this operation.

If the parties in the ongoing dispute allowed for it, the first airborne transports, most of them SAT-400s Heavy Tacticals and SAT-17 Strategic Airlifters began the deploying the first elements of the 502nd Guards Airborne Brigade and Guards Battalion 1120 from bases around Stockholm in less than two hours upon receipt of a confirmation of the beginning of a humanitarian exercise. The first units would fly with loose escorts, again provided by the 1st Fighter Group, towards Svalbard, maintaining open radio contact. Their escorting fighters would, of course, be armed, and remain elusive, and continue to keep radio silence, but the bulk of the aircraft in the sky maintained a crisp, passive stance as they journeyed northwards towards Svalbard.

[b]Hostilities Run Rampet : Hell in Spitsbergen[/b][/center][/size]

Hostilities throughout Spitsbergen continue. Both leaders have been killed. Former Ships serving under the Federation have been bombed by civilians and other militaristic forces. Looters raid homes and many women have been sexually assaulted and killed under the lawless region of Svalbard. Military forces continue to fight over piles of rubble. Few buildings stand and casualties are over the streets. A nordic nation fallen into Barbarism is a bit ironic but it is exactly the case for the Nordic Natives in Spitsbergen. Many streets filled with protesters began to turn bloody. Racism, and other forms of descrimination have taken place. Buildings that costed millions and took months to build have been leveled over night. Casualties are at an expected ~2,500,000. A journalist remarked in a new local News paper that "Hell cannot be any worse then what is happening in Svalbard at the moment." Voices silenced by Varin begin coming out. The fighting is no longer over Socialism, Nationalism, and Monarchism. The fighting has taken a new motive. All sorts of groups begin violently fighting in the streets for little to no reason. Many of the wealthy neighborhoods have been targets of Vandalism and Looting. Banks have been robbed with no Military interferance as there is no one military to protect them. Socialist radicals drove a tank into a bank and killed the workers, they later gave the money to extremely poor neighborhoods. Some of the peoples in Spitsbergen have packed up their most valuable items and hiked north into the wilderness to establish small migrant communities. Spitsbergen has fallen, and hell has risen in its place. The Federation of Arctic Regions is hereby decimated into rubble.

Hulak, one of the survivors has taken up part in the leadership roles. He has established a small base and a large army. The Army has put law into many regions of Spitsbergen. He is the only one most will listen to. Hulak passed policies under socialist and monarchist ideologies. Hulak still cannot control the protests in the streets. The Federations of Arctic Regions is ceased to be a nation. Small buildings and infrastructure remain in the regions, most large buildings are rubble. The financial assets of the nation are arouns 1/19th of what they were under Varin's rulings. This is indefinately the end of The Federation of Arctic Regions.

With little to no response coming out of the Federation of Arctic Regions, the Swedish military was already in action, air-defense suppression aircraft would fly ahead of transports as a massive air transport convoy began to flood out of Sweden's northern and central military air facilities. The entirety of the 1st Fighter Group was up in the air, and escorting the vulnerable transports in their march across the Norwegian Sea to the fallen Federation. The 502nd Guards Airborne Brigade would begin Sweden's arrival in Spitsbergen via an air assault in the early morning hours, the day after the announcement was made, with a full battalion being committed to the air assault, backed up by SAF-1 and SAF-9 stealth fighters.

Elements of the Swedish Navy were still en route, and barreling northwards across the North Sea, in the hope that they would be able to arrive within twenty-four hours of the 502nd landing at Spitsbergen Airport. The convoy would provide the Airborne Brigade with heavy reinforcements in the form of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, as well as helicopters to make the units much more mobile. Elements of Guards Battalion 1120 would be dropped along with the 502nd Brigade, the goal was to put the entirety of the Brigade on the ground within six hours of the first troops jumping out of their aircraft.

Radars monitoring the airspace around the Norwegian and Barents Seas would be alight with the lines of air transport aircraft, backed up by nearly two dozen support aircraft, from reconnaissance/intelligence aircraft, to air-to-air refuelers, to electronic warfare aircraft. What the radars wouldn't show, unless they were at a closer detection range to the air convoy, would be the multiple stealth fighters which zipped alongside the aircraft, providing the vital security needed to continue the operation.

We ask that any nation that wants to participate in the humanitarian effort that is currently underway in Svalbard to contact the Swedish Commissariat of International Affairs and Trade to make us aware of your intentions.

We will happily coordinate with any nation that wants to ensure the safety and stability of the Federation, and we will provide and ensure the security for any and all regional humanitarian convoys en route."
