“Come on Adriana. We have to take off before they blow this place to kingdom come.” David was worried, it was a long time since he flew in a combat situation and he did not want to be killed before he even got off the ground, but he couldn’t let his flying partner stay behind to die either.

They were two pilots which have been flying side by side for years now and now was the time they were needed most. Andorra was under attack and they knew what they had to do to keep their kids safe, they were husband and wife to each other and they would keep each other and their family safe no matter what. They had fled to Andorra from southern France to escape the reign of Simone and they didn’t think they would be followed, well they were wrong. Not long after they arrived the French Communists began their move into the country and anyone who could fly a jet and was willing to defend the country was called up and they were some of the first to volunteer. They had spent the past week preparing for the battle everyone knew was coming.

When the day finally came they almost didn’t know what to do. The alarm sounded and everyone went scrambling to the jets, but of course they were among the last to get to theirs and as they were taking off the French began bombarding the base from their ships. “Come on Adrian we don’t have all day!”

She answered, “Yea well when there are explosions all over the place it makes taking off a little difficult.”

Eventually they were able to take off right as the hanger was destroyed. “OK. Doesn’t look like we are going back there unless we are victorious.”

"Eagle Team this is Andorran Command. Your first objective is to support the fighter/bombers in taking out the French Battleships that are currently bombarding the airfield. They have the weapons capable of taking out the enemy ships easily but they are vulnerable to enemy aircraft, your job is to rally with Avalanche and his air squadron and then while they attack the ships you need to keep the enemy fighters off their tails.”

David then answered, “You got it sir. We will keep the french fighters off their back. They can count on us.”

“I have heard a lot of good things about you guys. Don’t let us down.”

In the Hotel de Ville of Ile-sur-Tet, General Jean-Marie Cadet looked over the field map in front of him as the other division leaders huddled around the wooden table. The initial attacks against Rebel positions had gone as planned. In the course of a few minor engagements outside of Perpignan proper, the Revolutionary Armies had secured the suburban regions of Baixas, Saint-Esteve and the regions south of the city. Artillery had rendered the Andorran air base obsolete and the navy was continuing to pound Perpignan into submission. It would not be long before the city fell to Revolutionary forces and the entire rebellion would be crushed. In doing so, the French had suffered moderate losses, and the first vanguard regiments had been completely recalled from human loss. That would not stop, however, the French advance and the eventual capture of the city.

"One final push, is all that should be necessary." Said General Meserve as he pushed the small red checker pieces into position around Perpignan. "My division, along with General Blondel's," he said pointing to the female commander, "Are both in position at Saint-Esteve and at Toulogues, respectively. One more artillery bombardment of the city should be enough to reduce Perpignan to rubble and allow us easy access to engage the rebels. Even if they do force us back, General Cadet, their air force will be destroyed and even now, their planes have no place to refuel. Without air superiority and no way in our out of the city. Perpignan will fall within the week."

Cadet nodded, "Jeanne, your solders are prepared to move north from Toulogues then? You have significant forces to launch an effective strike?"

"With aid from artillery and air superiority, I don't see the issue."

"Then I'll alert Commodore du Four to begin a second bombardment on Perpignan, then you can begin your attack. General Meserve, I want you to approach from the north, capture Llbanere Airport and then reinforce General Blondel's attack on the city center."

The generals snapped to salute and clicked their heels. "For the Party."

"For the Party, begin the attack."

Meanwhile, on board the Violette Amélie Desjardins walked out onto the runway of the carrier and threw a beat cigarette onto the metal surface. Since the afternoon, planes had been launching off nearly every five minutes. She took a deep breath and sighed looking at her own plane and the small squadron of female pilots she commanded. La Nuit Ensorcele, they called themselves, the Night Witches Squadron, taken after the pilots during the Second World War between Germany and Russia. They were unproven in battle, Amelie and her pilots and while they had all been together in the air academy before the Revolution, this would be their first real engagement, against the Andorrans. She told herself there was nothing to worry about, the French had better planes and more of them, but there was no telling what could happen in the great blue, ashy expanse in the sky.

"Amelie!" Said a cheerful voice behind her. "Or, should I say Commander." The spunky blond pilot laughed in contrast to Amelie's dark complexion. "The Andorrans are heading this way, we're going after them aren't we? I just heard the orders called on the loud speakers."

The commander nodded and looked back up into the sky. "Keep your wits about you Marthe, I don't want to underestimate them."

"I wouldn't dare, the girls are ready to prove themselves. We've been the laughing stock of the Force for too long."

Amelie turned and smirked, "Well, we'll be sure to show everyone a thing or two about our flying ability."

Minutes later, La Nuit Ensorcele took off towards the city of Perpignan. Already the French Air Force had engaged the Andorrans in the air and as Amelie and her pilots approached. The F-35Bs would create a strong presence in the air as radar jamming devices kicked in against the Andorran air force which would cause their weapon lock abilities to malfunction, these untrained pilots would now have to rely on visual attacks against the French fleet and other planes. As they approached the Andorran air force streaking through the sky, Amelie and her squadron, along with other squadrons set their missiles and a brilliant stream of smoke went streaking across the sky. Meanwhile, the carriers which were in range, adjusted their Surface-to-Air Missile batteries against the incoming planes and the skies above Perpignan would light up like fireworks from the dropping of French and Andorran planes into the seas.

Amelie, closed her eyes as she sent a missile out and made the sign of the cross on her head. "God protect us."

Statement from the Emperor

To our esteemed peers, leaders of the world community,

The crisis in Andorra can no longer go unaddressed. The new entity dubbing itself the Commune of France has invaded the tiny nation of Andorra. Whether you recognize the political status of an independent Andorra is irrelevant to the current issue. The fact of the matter is that the new French regime, posing as progressive liberators, has unleashed the terror of war upon a small community of people seeking only to live in peace.

We have no desire to dirty our hands with the internal politics of France. However, we have every desire to help the Andorran people and any men and women of France currently seeking to flee the nation. Recently, our Foreign Ministry expressed our desire to offer a place of safety in the Vasudan Empire to any displaced individuals from the affected region. However, it appears that the once-noble nation of Athenian Federation has seen fit to aid the vile Simone Valentin in stopping innocent civilians from escaping mortal danger. This is wholly unacceptable to us, as it should be unacceptable to any compassionate human being.

We hereby demand that the Commune of France opens the port of Perpignan to any refugees, Andorran or French, who seek to leave the region. We also call upon the Athenian Federation to do the right thing, and to open their borders to refugees seeking safe passage to Barcelona.

The Vasudan Red Crescent will be deployed to both of these cities at once. Once their planes have landed, they will set up humanitarian aid camps within both cities. These will provide food and basic medical care to refugees, and will assist them in relocating. A small group will also make their way to set up a field hospital in the Andorran village of Aixovall, within the football stadium. We expect the safety of our aid workers.

Unfortunately, our abilities to transport aid, both human and material, are limited to aerial transport. We call upon any like-minded nations, including the Grand Principality of Vicidalia and the Republic of Texas, in contributing their own humanitarian efforts. A naval presence would be especially appreciated, as such a long-distance effort requires the kind of storage capacity that any air transport cannot offer.

We sincerely hope that we are not alone in our concern for the Andorran and French people. Time is of the essence.

Signed,
Khonsu II, Emperor and Protector of Vasuda Prime and Lower Turkmenistan
Lord of the House of Hol'na

Vicidalia already stated its wish to help the Andorrans herself, however we are not able to land in Andorra with aircraft and have no capacities to break the Blockade. Would the Blockade be lifted, Vicidalia would take up refugees and provide non-military supplies, but we still cannot take the risk of our ships being sunk by the French Navy. As you may have already noticed, France indiscriminately fires rocket barrages on the towns of Andorra, o every personnal sent is in danger of being killed. The airfields are under artillery fire and our aircraft don't have the range to fly to Andorra, drop aid and return to Vicidalia.

We are, however, present with merchant ships in the Bay of Biscaya, able to get close to the Blockade and through it, should the Commune accept our offer, we have made, to let all Andorrans unhappy with the communist regime live in Vicidalia, just as we already provide a new home for French refugees, among them the queen.

Signed,

Lieselotte de Nouvelle-Beziérs
Senechal de Vicidalia
Andorra is not Independant, it is a province as France. As such, this is a civil war and no outside influence should force their hand an an internal battle. It is the Reino do Riograndense e Uruguay's belief that countries that are not France, stop trying to interfere. France will earn a reputation from how it fights this civil war and actions taken during combat, aswell as the orders given. For better, or for worse. It is not the International communities responsibility to critique before the action is over. That being said. the Kingdoms neutrality allows us to put this offer on the table.

Should the Commune and Andorra wish to sign an armistice, followed by a peace treaty, Montevideo will be open to both Nations as a neutral location to broker such agreements.

Signed
His most Catholic Majesty, King Rafael of Orléans-Braganza the First, by the Grace of God, of Reino do Riograndense e Uruguay.
Andorra is not a country fighting off a foreign invader, it is part of the French state and as such the Andorrans are nothing more than rebels and terrorists. The Andorrans started the fight and the Andorrans are the ones hiding among innocent civilians, as it is now it is impossible for a foreign nation to find out who is part of the rebels and who is not. It is because of this that our border is closed and will remain closed. Furthermore any ship or plane trying to reach Andorra and in the process crossing Athenian territory will be intercepted by the Hellenic Air Force and/or Hellenic Navy and turned back. Likewise we would strongly advice against setting up a camp in Spain, after all with a closed border there won't be anyone reaching it.
Adrian was worried, “Damion, we are screwed. We can’t retreat; they have us blocked on both land and sea, even if we did evacuate the civilians how do we know that they won’t fire on them?”

Damion answered firmly, “If they do it will only prove what monsters and murderers they really are and justify our cause even more.”

Adrian, “OK you have a point but it is a risk we can’t take unless we know they can get out safely.”

Damion continued, “Well if they stay here they will be killed by their bombardments, either way they will only prove what murderers they really are if they do not let the civilians out. Their options are simple, either they let the people get out or they reveal their true nature to the rest of the world, the very reasons we are fighting them.”

Meanwhile the battle continued both on ground and in the air, although the French were gaining ground they were also having a whole lot of casualties as the people continued to defend their territory and homes as the French advanced.

“Eagle team this is Avalanche. We are currently attacking the enemy fleet and although our anti-ship missiles seem to be working in taking out their big guns and SAM batteries but we are getting pounded by their fighter attacks. I have already lost 5 planes since we started our attack and can’t afford to lose more. You need to keep their fighters off our backs while we take out their fleet.”

“You can count on us. Come on Eagle 2; let’s keep those enemy fighters off of their backs.”

"Forward Comrades! Into the fray!"

The shout rang out across the Avenue de Panchot as Beatrix and Herbert's company of men moved down the wide road down towards the city center. After the French had passed Saint-Esteve and Toulouges, Andorran resistance had multiplied significantly and the French crossed roads littered with their own ruined tanks, occupying buildings which were scattered with the corpses of Andorran fighters. Their goal was a large building near the center of the city, the Castle of the Kings of Majorca, from the castle, the French could command the entire city and bring an end to any and all Andorran resistance. There was a rumor that the Andorran leader ship was also held up within the castle walls, but by this time they may have sought other defensible positions or evacuated the city completely.

Under the shadow of explosions, the two French soldiers ran down with their feet pumping across the rubble of Perpignan. Around them, French soldiers dropped while shots rang over from the surrounding buildings. With tank reinforcement, the advance was stronger, yet still the Revolutionaries made slow work of combing the city. Nearly every building needed to be checked out thus removing the danger of enemy snipers, who had taken a high toll on French junior officers in this engagement. Still above the city in the sky, the soldiers watched as planes, both French and Andorran, fall to the ground in a brilliant display of smoke and flame.

Finally, as the night set on the city, Beatrix and Herbert found their way to the walls of the castle and the assault would begin on the last defenses of the Andorrans to finally liberate Perpignan.

---

At the same time as the sun set in the western skies the women of La Nuit Ensorcele were earning their stripes in combat. The Andorran planes had done moderate damage to the amphibious carriers, but had not touched the arsenal missile ships given their distance from the coast. Amelie had taken down two planes herself as the battle passed into the evening twilight. But this was not without encountering damage on her own, one of the pilots, Marveille Plante, had gone down, her parachute opening as she disappeared in the dark waters of the Mediterranean, no hint of whether she was alive or dead.

"Amelie!" The Commander's radio crackled, as Marthe's voice rang.

"What is it Lieutenant?"

"Andorran fighters, they're coming up, on your six. They must have come out from the city. Am I clear to engage?"

"Damn...yes...get them off my tail."

With a scream, Marthe turned her plane around coming up on the flank of the Andorran fighters joining the battle, firing off two missiles as she locked on to one of the planes. "You ain't going anywhere." She said as the skies lit up with orange fire.

The clearly marked Tu-330 transport plane carrying Red Crescent personnel, food, and medical supplies left Aldebaran Airport at 04:30 VST. The flight to Andorra would take roughly six and a half hours, meaning that they would land at 07:00 CET.

The pilots prepared themselves for the journey ahead. The plan to land in Spain had been abandoned, as the Athenians had made it clear that the border would remain closed, and any non-Athenian aircraft coming into Barcelona would be turned around. The new plan was simply to fly straight to Perpignan. Should that prove impossible, they would redirect to the airport at Beziers, in Commune territory.

The flight went smoothly until the plane reached Italy. Yousef maintained his trajectory as Athenian Air Traffic Control demanded their destination from Misha, the co-pilot.

"We are humanitarian aid workers in route to Perpignan. We carry only civilians and medical supplies, and are not bound for Athenian territory, over," Misha explained.

As the traffic controllers continued to insist they turn back, Misha, and then Yousef, repeated their message of purpose several more times. Communication eventually ceased, and Yousef continued on as they neared their destination. Only as the Tu-330 flew past Turin and into France did Yousef and Misha see the Athenian fighters.

"Unauthorized aircraft, we are here to escort you back to Rome for refueling before your return home, over."

"Negative," said Misha, "we are continuing on our stated trajectory. We intend to land in Perpignan."

Yousef gripped the controls with all his strength, and continued on towards Andorra's main city as the sweat dripped down his neck.

As the pilots of the two F-1s moved to take the plane down they would have some doubts on the mission, however orders were strict.

As soon as they were in position command would give the final order that would end the lives of the people on the Tu-330. "Lethal force to stop unauthorize aircraft authorized."

The fighter behind the plane would aim a single Meteor-2 missile, as the final button was pressed to release the missile would go for the plane at enormous speeds to hit the plane in a decisive blast. While no survivors were expected the Coast Guard began moving towards the wreckage.

Elene Planchard was a little bit worried. Well, maybe a greater bit, but who wouldn't be if they were up to the same task as she was. Thankfully her stature was rather petite, allowing the barrel she hid behind to conceal her presence almost entirely. The Commune had sworn to be the torchlight of communism and her homeland was opposing this doctrine with all possible means. Thus, Elene knew, she couldn't stay on board. The letters from home were forcing her to such trastic measures and it would be for the greater good of everyone. The Loreley was just a few kilometres before the French coast, after steaming for Andorra to help the civilians with evacuation. In the darkness, the convoy, being loaded with humanitarian aid, was calmly crossing through the water, as the commandant, Cpt. Armand entered the deck for a short walk. He had the habit of doing so every evening, as Elene had observed in the last days. Just as he passed the barrel, Elene sneaked behind his back, lifted the steel barrel and soon he saw more stars than just the night sky.

As he sunk to the ground, Elene hurried to the captains quarters. With Armand, the last one of the night watch was down and the ship was under her control. Arriving in the captains quarters, she closed the room and began her search. Looking through all the plans and keys she soon had what she looked for. A small message, a revolver, a knife and some proviant was all she needed, then she took one of the rescue boats and before anyone realised that the Loreley was without active crew, Elene had vanished in the night.

On the next morning, a small rowing boat held course at the Blockade. Without visible weaponry, it was obvious it posed no threat to anything, not to even mention the arsenal ships. Elene was tired, but for her conviction, she did everything. And in order not to get mowed down by the first autocannon, she took out a flag of the commune to signal her friendly intent.

Meanwhile, the convoy had regained their organisation and messaged the French Blockade:

"To the French Naval Forces. This is the Loreley, ship under the flag of her Highness, Grand Princess of Vicidalia. We are an unarmed convoy of merchant vessels, here to retrieve Andorrans that are not willing to die in the bombardments of their cities and the urban battles that are occurring as we speak. We ask for the right to pass these lines and we are also ready to undergo inspection to prove that apart from fuel to steam back to Vicidalia, food and humanitarian goods, we have no cargo dangerous to the Commune."

"Loreley, this is Commodore Gauvrin du Four of the French First Fleet. This is an active battleground and under orders of the Chairwoman I implore you to turn around and back out to sea. You will receive one warning and then our ships will open fire. This is that warning."

The guns of the Jeanne d'Arc began to turn and if the Loreley continued to move forward, she would be sunk.

The convoy halted and anchored in the waters. Armand couldn't risk losing his men to a few French grenades, but turning around wasn't in either. Also, he wasn't willing to decide much while his head felt like a bee colony, thanks to that woman of the last night. Where she would be?

Elene hoping not to get shot by the Jeanne d'Arc, rowed nearer until she was in range to call out for the crew.

"Hello?! Please, could you take me to the nearest French port? I have a message to the government of the Commune."

Immediately, Elene, who coincidentally had the same name as one of the carriers in combat, was whisked aboard the Jeanne d'Arc from there she was taken onto the bridge without being allowed to speak or ask questions. There, Commodore du Four rose from his chair and walked over towards the girl and smiled as he took her hand. "Mademoiselle, I assume you are from the humanitarian ship? If you are, I am afraid there is nothing I can do. We are not allowed to let any foreign nations, who have pledged to Andorra, through the blockade. I was told, however, you have a message for our government. May I have it?"

"Well, Vicidalias Nobility may have pledged to Andorra, not however the Vicidalian proletariate. I was aboard that ship in order to get here and I see myself as the messenger of the Vicidalian communists to contact our French comrades. May I however ask where I can find the nearest official of the Communes government that gets my message to Comrade Valentin or where I could maybe find Comrade Valentin herself? My message is of utmost urgency."

While saying that, she constantly tapped around with her foot, seeming nervous and distressed. She was shaking slightly, the night and the tension of her mission had taken their toll, it appeared. Once, she also looked out of a window at the convoy anchoring at the horizon. She sighed.

"Excuse me if I am rude, but I really have no time to waste, the Royalists are not pausing either."

"My dear," Du Four smiled and took her hand, running his hand across her hair. "You are staring at a Commune official, but if you want someone with better ties to Chairwoman Valentin." He turned and motioned to a middle-aged woman with brown hair dressed in a white uniform with red stars on her shoulders. "Mademoiselle, this is Commissar Mirabelle Verdier. She is the political representative on the Jeanne d'Arc to the Chairwoman."

Mirabelle walked forward and smiled. "We were not aware, Mademoiselle, that Vicidalia had a large Socialist movement, but it fills us with a great amount of happiness and you," She patted Elene on the shoulder. "Are one of the bravest girls I have ever met in my life. The Chairwoman would be honored to meet you. But right now, it is almost impossible to go to Paris with the battle happening in Perpignan. Our soldiers have almost secured the city and destroyed the Andorran Air Force, after that's done. I will personally take you to Paris, ma petite. However, right now, I need to know the message you have, especially if it of this kind of importance. I promise, you and I will deliver it to the Chairwoman together."

Elene gulped. "Well, the Socialist movement is not all that big if one counts the real socialists. Mostly it's people just unhappy with the aristocracy. Vicidalias government outlawed the newspapers. The world may guess that there is unrest, but they may not know that in the north-western region the people took up arms and are fighting the military and the Ancien Ligue, a clique of aristocrats trying to return to status quo, paying mercenaries to slaughter us. Vicidalia also closed its borders and if they get one, it's a free ticket to Nouvelle-Blois or Louisiane, to the gold mines." Elene slumped down and broke into tears. "Last month, they even got my brother interned. He's even younger then me, he is only 16...yet he has to mine up gold." Tears ran down her cheek. She sneezed once into a handkerchief, which she pulled out of a bag, then she tried to righten herself up and to calm down. "I'm sorry for this sudden outburs of emotions, but it is terrible and many of us are affected by it. Only little non-aristocratic families don't know the feeling of having at least one of their family members in the mines...or the cemetary." She tried to smile and lighten up, but tears still welled up. "But now, I'm thankful for your offer. I want to ask France for help. Or at least to acknowledge us. If not, I'll have to return to Vicidalia."

Mirabelle stood up solemnly and turned to Du Four with a frown. Then she took Elene in a tight embrace. "You won't have to go back there dear and after this war with Andorra, we will do what we can to save Vicidalia. Things are going to change, you and your brother will be free to roam the countryside and we will end this serfdom that your people struggle with. You definitely came to the right place and this kind of bravery." The Commissar smirked, You would be the perfect person to rule over Vicidalia after a revolution. But, Mademoiselle, I think given your circumstance, the Chairwoman would be delighted to train you as an apprentice. You're family here, there's nothing you need to worry about." She turned back around. "Commodore?"

"Yes, Comrade Commissar?"

"Radio Paris this instant, Chairwoman Valentin must know about the transgressions happening in Vicidalia. After Andorra, we will have a new campaign."

"I hope everything will turn out right." Then she suddenly lost her strength and almost fell over. "I think, the time at sea in a rowing boat was harder than expected." With a bit of a forced smile, as she was by far not in the condition to smile, she sat down again and asked "I really hope this is all over soon. But what can do from the outside, but take up the refugees...? After all the regime has South American support now." She sighed.
