"With the continuing possibilities of expanded hostilities in Central Asia, the X CORPS has been put on a twenty-four hour foreign deployment notice, and all units are to hereby assembled from their garrisons west of Pitea to forward deployment positions near Pitea. This assembly will also include elements of Artillery Regiment Norrbotten, given the deployment of Artillery Regiment Scania to Central Asia. Two fast sealift vessels of the Swedish Auxiliary Sealift Division are being deployed to Pitea in light of these developments, and will be on hand if deployments are confirmed.

To replace X CORPS in its duties in Northern Sweden, should this deployment activate, the I CORPS is being deployed to X CORPS' home garrisons west of Pitea, to maintain even force balance deployment across the nation. The 7th and 8th Marine Expeditionary Units are hereby deployed to Uppsala from their garrisons in the Blekinge County Military District, and will remain on station to assist in this endeavor and ensure that force balances remain evenly with the departure of the I CORPS from Central Sweden."

To Whom it May Concern

Finland is seriously in need of the FNS Talvisota. Without it, there are serious flaws and holes in Finnish sea defense, which we cannot fill without the aforementioned ship. We humbly request the recommencement of construction in an effort to repair relations between our two powers.

In light of recent developments in France and relevant intelligence over deteriorating conditions, one SARC-135 Strategic Reconnaissance Aircraft is being positioned in the North Sea to monitor ongoing events. This aircraft will be supported by a duo of SAP-8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft of the Swedish Navy, which will monitor shipping activity over this region and monitor the progress of Sweden's Humanitarian Supply Vessels. These aircraft are to be unarmed and are to keep minimum distances from surface vessels so as to not cause undue alarm.

The ultraquiet diesel submarines Horn and Baner, already on station off Gothenberg, are ordered into international waters in the North Sea to monitor these efforts as well, as well as the situation in France itself. The submarines are to remain on reduced-operation air-independent propulsion, and maintain receiving contact with the SAP-8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft, using the towed communications array to receive these messages. These submarines will not transmit any information unless ordered to do so by the First Lord of the Admiralty himself.
TO: The Government of the People's Republic of Finland

CC: SWEDISH PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE; MIAT - STRATEGIC AFFAIRS
SUBJ: RE:FNS Talvisota

The Swedish Government has ordered the construction of the FNS Talvisota halted due to recent actions taken by the People's Republic of Finland, whose behavior continues to make the chance for relations to be mended elusive. We cannot, without serious concerns, continue the procurement of the missile cruiser, FNS Talvisota, while Finland continues to engage in behavior that compromises the safety and stability of the European Continent and the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Until Finland begins to show a predictable and stable line of actions, can Sweden continue the procurement of FNS Talvisota, we will not take verbal assurances, actions speak louder than words. The procurement of the missile cruiser is not, considered to be a prerequisite so that Finland and Sweden repair relations. It is a privilege for any nation to procure weapons from another nation using the tools and tradesman of that country, and that privilege can be lost when that country then embarks in regional bellicosity that undermines the stability of the region or continent at large.

The procurement of the FNS Talvisota will remain suspended until further notice and will only resume after a pattern of steady and positive behavior is recorded from the People's Republic of Finland.

Christian Nyquist
Minister of International Affairs and Trade

CLASSIFIED - COMDEF ORDER #12122011B

The Swedish Land Army hereby enacts the Horn Reforms, which was compiled by General Ludwig Horn in an effort to address issues in the tactical issues surrounding the former Swedish Army's tactical command structure. In an effort to enact these reforms, the PDFS hereby announces the creation of eight Military Districts, as well as the re-introduction of the Swedish Expeditionary Force Command. The eight military districts, and their provincial jurisdictions are as follows;

Skanderna Special Military District - Lappland, Jamtland, and Harjedalen Provinces

Norrland Military District - Norrbotten, Vasterbotten, and Angermanland Provinces

Western Military District - Dalarna, Varmland, and Dalsland Provinces

Stockholm Special Military District - Halsingland, Uppland, Gastrikland, Vastmanland, Narke, and Sodermanland Provinces

Aaland Archipelago Special Military District - Aaland Province

South Baltic Military District - Ostergotland, Smaland, Oland, and Gotland Provinces

Blekinge County Special Military District - Blekinge County

Southwestern Military District - Bohusland, Vastergotland, Halland, and Skane Provinces

Swedish Expeditionary Force Command - Blekinge County
In its' decision to reorganize the entirety of the Swedish Land Army, it has been decided that the basic highest unit of tactical command, is now to be the "Army", with any number of Armies being assigned to a Military District. Each Army will have its own intrinsic units, which can be detached at any time for duty with other formations or armies, or independently. Armies are assigned to Military Districts in such a way, that is to provide enough ground forces for the defense of any given region at one time, or they can be detached and re-attached to the Swedish Expeditionary Force Command.

Below the level of "Army", the basic unit of organization is the division, which will contain as many as twelve thousand combat soldiers, standard motorized rifle divisions are assigned two brigades, of two regiments each, with each regiment containing three thousand combat soldiers split between four battalions of seven-hundred and fifty soldiers each. The designation of "motorized" is in a way deceiving, as these units are the standard "line infantry" of the Swedish Land Army, and are assigned motor transport in the form of various types of lorries or light vehicles when possible in a combat zone. Standard motorized rifle divisions contain along with these infantry forces an artillery regiment of three battalions of sixteen one-hundred and fifty-five millimeter howitzers. Standard regiments also have their own organic artillery units, with two mortars per company, as well as eight light one hundred and five millimeter howitzers split into two batteries.

Specialized divisions in the Swedish Land Army are comprised of two different types; Mountain Rifle Divisions and Airborne Divisions. Like the motorized rifle divisions, these divisions contain twelve thousand combat soldiers, and are split into two brigades of two regiments each. The difference between these units and motorized rifle divisions, is the composition of the units inside the division. Mountain Rifle Divisions, when operating in open regions, are expected to be allotted motorized transport depending on availability, but given their normal area of operation, in alpine regions, depend on helicopters to move heavy equipment, as well as mainly foot transportation and arctic tracked vehicles for most transport situations. Airborne Divisions, rather than being exclusively comprised of paratroopers, are trained in both the art of parachute as well as helicopter insertions. Depending on the situation, these Airborne forces will be attached regiments of attack helicopters, to add extra firepower to their own intrinsic helicopter units.

Mechanized divisions of the Swedish Land Army are organized along different lines than the rifle divisions, with three regiments per brigade, thus forming a "heavy" brigade. Each brigade has one tank regiment, and two mechanized (rifle) regiments each, with the tank regiment comprising one hundred and fifty tanks, split between three battalions, which each has its own mechanized company for close infantry support. Utilizing armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, the mechanized regiments also have their own eight-gun-strong self propelled artillery battalion, as does the standard tank regiment, which has an additional mechanized battalion attached to it as well.

At the battalion level of each Swedish tactical formation of a "line" unit, is the headquarters company, which contains two platoons of combat engineers, as well as heavy mortars, and also reconnaissance elements, with heavy armored cars, or other forms of mechanized transport when available. All standard infantry platoons are issued MANPADS anti-tank and anti-aircraft equipment whenever possible depending on supply situations. Battalions headquarters companies are issued vehicles such as the SASAMS, or Patria AMV-AD whenever possible, with each division being issued anti-aircraft battalions of various composition depending on division type. Anti-aircraft regiments are typically made up of five battalions and are assigned to different units at the Army-level of organization, and usually contain theater-grade anti-aircraft weaponry which includes ballistic missile defenses.

Marine Expeditionary Units of the Swedish Amphibious Forces are to be remain in their standard organizational pattern, due to their proven tactical flexibility, as they usually operate individually and are smaller then typical Swedish line formations. Marine Expeditionary units typically comprise three battalions of five-hundred men each, and also are assigned their own organic tank battalions (thirty tanks), an artillery battalion, anti-aircraft battery, along with their own support unit. Mechanized and amphibious assault capabilities are provided by the AAVP-7, EFV, and Patria AMV systems. The Marine unit, as a smaller force, is generally considered to be an elite unit by Swedish standards, and they are generally used as shock forces outside of an amphibious environment, due to their proven tenacity.

Further information on the new Swedish Land Army's Order of Battle is forthcoming...

CLASSIFIED - COMDEF ORDER #12142011A

"In order to ensure the integrity of the Swedish borders and provide for military support of constabulary and sovereignty operations, the Swedish Home Army is assigned a new formation that will replace the old coastal brigades in one standardized formation, known as the Folksjager Brigade.

These brigades will be comprised of three rifle battalions, mainly reservists from their home district, as well as a full two battalions of artillery, light and heavy, as well as a battalion of anti-aircraft weaponry, mainly SASAMS and tactical battlefield systems. Also the brigades shall be assigned with a full company of engineers for local construction and repair missions, and are well versed in bridge and infrastructure repair. For brigades that are dubbed with a (Coastal) marker, they are assigned a battalion of truck-launched anti-ship missiles, and their soldiers are assigned a length of coastline to defend in the event of an amphibious invasion, and are trained in the aspects of defending against such operations.

These organizational changes have been noted in the current order of battle of the Swedish Land Army that was distributed recently."

CLASSIFIED - COMDEF ORDER #12152011A

"The Commissariat of Defense hereby approves the transfer of the First Guards Army, 17th Army, 35th Army, Guards Battalion 1120, SIG, and two of the currently independent Marine Expeditionary Units, with the 7th Motorized Rifle Division to the French Antilles' Possession of Hispaniola, with the first elements to depart in the next forty-eight hours. Elements from the 384th Engineering Group and the Swedish Expeditionary Force Command are to be forward deployed to Port-au-Prince in that same time frame, and will begin assessing operational facilities for the use of the Swedish Expeditionary Force.

Additionally, the Swedish Grand Fleet is ordered to deploy what it deems as sufficient naval forces for an operational presence in the Caribbean theater. Naval forces are to be deployed to the Caribbean in the next seventy-two hours, and are expected to sail en masse to avoid a piecemeal deployment. The Commissariat of Defense hereby approves the activation and transit of two out of Sweden's three afloat forward staging bases. These will act as supply bases until a more permanent supply chain can be established.

The Swedish Aerial Services are expected to support these endeavors in whatever capacity they can, including the relaying of forward engineering and command staff to the Caribbean to assess the state of billeting Swedish forces there. Further deployments are expected for the Swedish Aerial Services, and we hereby order the SAS General Staff to issue twenty-four hour notice of deployment orders in three days' time."

Comrade,

If possible I would like to apologize for demanding this of Sweden after the signing of our alliance. But we may have overreacted a little bit on calling both you and Finland down into the Caribbean. Due to recent negotiations with the South Americans the arrival of too many European allies, in addition to the Athenians already in the Bahamas may cause strife we are not ready to deal with yet. If possible, we would ask for you fleet which has only just left Swedish waters to return to your homeland from causing possible instruction from the Reactionists. I realize this may come as strange news, but given our recent discussions with Guyana, the Commune would like to play our expansion into the Americas with caution.

Regards,

General Bosede Obame
Military Governor of the French Antilles

Salutations, Governor Obame,

We thank you for your timely message, at this point, the first ships were leaving port to begin forming up for their voyage south, given your request, we will stand them down, and return them to port. We would, of course, like to be able to set up some sort of limited presence in the Caribbean in the form of a limited command staff, but we will waive off any departures for the Caribbean. It is, of course, your territory, and you will do with it what you will. No harm done.

"Remember, we're not going up today to do any hot-dogging, we just received our replacement mounts, we've been training on the simulator for two months now, we've taken these bad boys up a few times, the Swedish High Commissariat didn't make this the first operational squadron of the Dragon for nothing. So, lets keep it professional up there today," said Colonel Felix Drexel, as the flight line bus drove along rows of hangers at Karlstad Air Force base, right on the shores of Lake Vanern.

One of the most respected tactical air group leaders in the Swedish Aerial Services, Drexel had been a part of the Central Asian conflict with the Kingdom of Cochin, leading one of the first successful raids against the Kingdom's vaunted aerial defense system. Known by the callsign "Slick", the Swedish pilot was in his late twenties, and in keeping with his nickname, his dark hair was in its usual greased-back state. He stood at the front of the modified bus, which was used to transport pilots around the base to the flight line and to their quarters and such. His premier squadron, Number 5 Strategic of the 1st Strategic Bombardment Wing, was known as the Red Stars, and had been Drexel's first combat squadron before being promoted to Wing Commander, but if he flew into battle, it would always be at the head of Number 5 Strategic.

As they rounded a large trio of hangers, their newest aircraft replacement came into view, the culmination of nearly two years of development and testing, the SAB-101 Dragon was at the top of its class as a stealthy strategic bomber. Originally flying into battle the SAB-1 Strategic Bomber, a non-stealthy, but yet still reliable aircraft, it had been decided that the Swedish Aerial Services needed an aircraft that could carry a huge payload like the SAB-1, but was, of course, stealthier. The SAB-101 was the result of the project, with four huge engines, the Saab AAR-5500A turbofan-assisted ramjet, which was built around a concept pioneered by the old Pratt & Whitney J58 Engine, the AAR-5500A was specifically designed for the aircraft, the SAB-101 was built to attain speeds of close to Mach 3.8 at top speed, while being able to maintain a steady cruise speed of around Mach 1.75. Despite this large engine, given that the engines were located farther to the interior of the aircraft, heat could be sapped before reaching the afterburners, cutting back on the aircrafts' heat signature.

Only half the squadron would go up on their need steeds today, and those six flight crews were considered to be the best in Sweden's strategic bombing business. The bus would pull to a stop behind the lead aircraft, painted white and for this training mission, only painted with red stars as identifiers. This had been given the go-ahead by the top brass, as a sign of achievement for the squadron's exploits in combat in Central Asia. As Drexel led the crews off the bus, he turned to the crews again, as he put on his helmet, which featured the words "Slick", animatedly slipping on a banana peel.

"Mount up!" he yelled, waving a hand at the line of six huge bombers. He turned away from them, and began strolling towards his own aircraft, whose ground crew was standing around it, waiting to begin pre-flight operations. "How is she doing today, Sergeant?" asked Drexel, of his lead flight engineer.

"Ready to roll, she's all yours, skipper," nodded the Sergeant, giving the vaunted Colonel a salute as he swung up onto the mounting ladder to the cockpit. The cockpit of the SAB-101 was designed to fit four individuals, including the pilot and co-pilot, a weapon systems specialist (WSO), and a defensive and electronic warfare officer (DEWO). The pilot and co-pilot sat in a side-by-side seating arrangement in the front of the cockpit, while the WSO and DEWO shared a similar position in the rear of the bubble cockpit.

Although the SAB-101 appeared to be about as stealthy as the older SAB-1, considering its' size, it certainly was not anywhere near as easy to pick up on a radar screen. The SAB-101 was constructed out of composite materials, as well as utilizing similar photonic flight controls and equipment that were found in the SAF-9 Wargaz. Of course, it was much bigger than the Wargaz, and would certainly show up on a radar faster then the smaller fighter would, its stealth would allow its surviveability to be much higher then the SAB-1 it replaced. Not only thwas the SAB-101 stealthier, it was also faster, three times as fast as its older cousin, while still being able to carry a hefty payload, as well as under-wing stealthy conformal fuel tanks to extend its' range. The SAB-101 featured an electronics suite similar to the SAF-9, being able to engage in electronic warfare missions and jamming of enemy radar and weaponry, while being able to defend itself with two direct microwave energy weapons that could fry unshielded circuitry.

"Much more comfy than the SAB-1," commented Lieutenant Vera Troyken, Drexel's co-pilot, as she strapped herself in with the help of one of the ground crew. The rest of the crew was mounting up in the rear of the aircraft, as the Sergeant who had spoken to Drexel finished adjusting the Wing Commander's seat straps.

"Ready to start those engines up, stand by on the ground," called out Drexel, as he began flipping a series of switches, as the crew folded away the ladders into the aircraft. As the huge turbofans began to spin to life, the cockpit began to close. Drexel and Troyken began flipping switches and checking gauges, as they shut the visors on their helmets, which brought up a heads up display. A flashing green icon in the upper right hand corner of the display indicated that the engines were starting, and when they suddenly turned very light green, and disappeared, Drexel nodded at Troyken. "Engine systems are green."

"Altimeter and navigational feeds are running green across the board."

"Communications check, Red Star Lead to Galaxy, communications check," said Drexel, relaying to the base control tower.

"Green light, Red Star Lead, Galaxy is reading you, five-five-five," responded the tower controller, on duty.

"NORDCOMM Systems Check," called out Troyken.

"NORDCOMM Connection is Steady and green, ma'am," responded the WSO, Warrant Officer John Beckenmann.

"Confirming NORDCOMM Connection, navigational, targeting, and defensive systems are running green across the board," called out Lieutenant Maria Hammer, the DEWO.

"Galaxy, Red Star Lead is green, requesting permission to begin flight operations," called out Drexel, as he moved pointed upwards with his finger, and moved it in circles at the ground crew, which ripped the chalks out from around the wheels and jogged away from the line of aircraft.

"Red Star Lead, you have permission to proceed with your flight operations, your flight is cleared for takeoff on runway 9-6-8."

"Copy that Galaxy, Red Star Lead proceeding with taxi."

"Roger, have a good time up there, Red Star Flight."

Drexel and Troyken barely edged the throttle forward, and felt the large aircraft lurch forward, before beginning their slow taxi off the tarmac and onto a taxi-way. Drexel felt his fingers tense and relax around the joystick, he could feel the turbofans jarring the large aircraft as they adjusted to the throttle, edging them down the taxi-way, as they led five other aircraft towards the runway.

"Increase throttle," nodded Drexel, as he nudged it a little more, the aircraft beginning to taxi around the loop towards the runway, he looked over at his young co-pilot, who couldn't see him, of course, through the reflective visor of the helmet. "Red Star Flight, Red Star Lead, beginning takeoff on Runway 9-6-8." As he spoke, he slowly began to edge the throttle forward faster with Troyken as they felt the jet begin to roll forward faster. The airspeed monitor began to quickly ascend in the left hand corner of their heads-up-display on their helmets, and as they felt the aircraft begin to lurch, they smoothly pulled up on their sticks, and the aircraft began to ascend into the air. "This is Red Star Lead, we are away."

Given that the Swedish National Navy had finally been replenished with vessels lost during the war with Cochin, the final sea trials of the vessels and some of their replacement crews, would require open sea maneuvers, requiring the Swedish Navy to deploy its new replacement vessels to the North Atlantic. Given the tense situation across the world, the Swedish National Navy dispatched the balance of two carrier battlegroups to the North Atlantic, including a large detachment of submarines from both the Grand Fleet as well as the Baltic Squadron.

Accompanying the carriers would be arsenal ships, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, littoral combat ships, as well as three amphibious assault ships, albeit they were rigged for anti-submarine warfare, and appeared to not being carrying ground forces. Supporting the fleet was the afloat forward staging base Monolith, and a slew of depot and replenishment vessels. Under the cover of darkness, these vessels would depart Gothenberg and ports along the Kattegat to rendezvous in the middle of the North Sea, before taking various routes through the G-I-UK Gap, breaking into the North Atlantic in two separate groups, the submarines, except for those screening the carriers directly, operating independently, two diesel ultraquiets would crawl through the English Channel to the Western Approaches before quickly darting into deeper waters at higher speed, to arrive at the maneuver rendezvous point first.

After running the G-I-UK Gap, the two carrier battlegroups had proceeded south towards the Central Atlantic, maintaining a steady radio presence, but as they reached the Central Atlantic, the radio traffic petered out, then stopped altogether as they entered the outside flows of the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre, also known as the Sargasso Sea. Following a slow-moving squall, the fleet would maintain a presence in the Sargasso Sea, first sailing southeast towards Northwest Africa, then backtracking northwest towards Bermuda, skipping from squall to squall in a navigational exercise and long-term patrol simulation.

As the squall they sailed in continued to spit light rain down on the amphibious assault carrier Resolute, recently-promoted First Sergeant Ingrid Hamm walked across the deck in her blue-pattern fatigues. The rain had soaked through them, but she felt at ease and able to collect her thoughts when she walked the carrier deck, which was mostly devoid of life. Lines of helicopters were secured along the sides of the deck. Flight deck personnel ran between the helicopters, doing internal cabin electronics maintenance due to the squall disallowing any real maintenance while on deck.

Delta Company of the Guards Battalion 1120 had been assigned to the maneuvers, reportedly for "acclimatizing" to maritime operations for the newest operators of the Tier One Special Operations Force. Ingrid knew that command was always full of crap whenever they sent them on these naval maneuvers, but she didn't voice her concerns, she had always loved visiting the southern Swedish coast in the summertime, or even skipping across the Baltic to the Baltic Coast of Germany. She loved the water, and had she not been snapped up for training during the formation of Battalion 1120, she would have probably ended up in the Coastal Jager Regiment, which she had considered transferring to, but felt she had too many friends and comrades in Battalion 1120 to even consider that possibility now.

"What are you doing out here again, Sarge?" called out Corporal Erika Mannheim, like Ingrid, recently promoted to her new rank. She had emerged from the flight tower, and had strolled over to her, walking across the lightly windswept deck.

"Couldn't rest downstairs, needed some air," responded Ingrid, as her old friend approached, and stopped next to her, with a smile.

"At least it doesn't smell like aviation fuel as much."

"The rain and wind blow it away."

"Good. I don't think I could be out here if it weren't like this."

"Imagine if we were posted on the Lutzen, it'd be ten times as worse, they're still sending fighters up," commented Ingrid, as she pointed at the larger carrier, through the mists in the distance.

"Couldn't sleep with all those jets taking off and landing all the time."

"I'm sure you get used to it, if some swabbie can deal with it, you and I sure as hell can," grinned Ingrid, catching a sideways glare from a passing deck crewman.

"True that, I still don't see why the troops need acclimatizing, hell, half of them were transferred in from the Vets that went ashore during the Aaland Islands campaign," grumbled Erika, as she put her hands inside the pockets of her fatigues.

"You and I both know we're not on station for acclimatization."

"Well, who knows if we'll be needed, probably not this time around."

"I like the rain, it feels different out here on the ocean," nodded Ingrid, turning her attention to the squall again.

"Air is heavier, I've been having a hard time breathing, its much more different then Kiruna, so dry there," remarked Erika, whose origins were from the foothills of the Skanderna.

"Takes time to get used to it," said Ingrid, as she started towards the control tower.

"You heading in?"

"Don't want to catch a cold, would you?" called out Ingrid. "Let's get a cup of coffee in the mess!"

Erika nodded, and then took one last look into the rolling mists, the dark shapes of ships surrounding the Resolute, before jogging towards Ingrid, who was holding the bulkhead door open for her.

"With the successful combat employment of the SAF-9 Wargaz, the Swedish National Navy has begun the official procurement of, and introduction the NSAF-9B Seelowe or "Sealion", a CATOBAR variant of the already highly-capable SAF-9 Wargaz. Saab Aerospace can confirm that the first deliveries have been made to the Fleet Air Arm, and they will replace the current fighters being used in the Navy at this time, including the NSAF-168 Mjolnir, which will be reassigned to training missions, second-line combat status, as well as naval strike duties. The NSAF-9B features a slightly elongated body to accommodate larger internal weapon bays, which increases the number of internal hardpoints in the aircraft to eight, as well as adding four external non-stealth mounts.

Given the new size of the aircraft, Saab Aerospace has completely redesigned a new engine for the aircraft, the F-959, which includes turbofan-assisted ramjets, a variant of the same engine that was recently put into use on the SAB-101 Dragon. This has put the NSAF-9B to have the capability of a maximum safe speed of Mach 2.7. With advances in engine technology since the latest version of the Wargaz, these new engines are more fuel efficient, and add another extra four hundred nautical miles onto the aircraft's maximum combat range. With the expanded weapons bay, up to four anti-ship missiles can be carried at once, along with four air-to-air missiles, giving the Seelowe a much more enhanced strike capability that its predecessor did not possess.

The Swedish Aerial Services has planned to begin to upgrade existing aircraft with new engines, while acquiring the new elongated aircraft and stopping production of Block I models."

The helicopter banked steeply over the green foliage below, bearing northeast over the wilds of Hispaniola, there was not a cloud in the sky, and everyone on board seemed relaxed, despite them being here on business. Major General Caroline Bernadotte leaned against the gunwale of the unmounted doorgunner's position, one of the sliding side doors was open, and one naval officer was riding along in the doorway, his hand gripping onto a rail above him. They were bearing down on the northern coast of Hispaniola, after arriving only a few hours before on a flight into Santo Domingo's international airport. A Swedish naval helicopter, having flown in from the fleet that was currently preparing to end its maneuvers had been detailed to provide them with transport for their job.

"Its so beautiful out here!" called out Major Aden Dawkins, her young, yet battle-hardened aide-de-camp, holding onto the rail next to Caroline, yelling over the whirring of the helicopter blades.

"Even after what happened during the Imperial civil war, this place was a wasteland afterwards," responded Caroline, in a similarly loud voice, as they suddenly lifted upwards over a knoll that stuck over the green foliage below.

"Nature seems to have taken back control of a lot of it," said Air Force Colonel Marlena Hollimann, who was seated across from Caroline in the other doorgunner's seat.

"Samana Bay's just ahead ma'am, want me to make a circle pass around it?" yelled the pilot from the cockpit, as they began flying over a coastal plain, heading for the light blue water ahead.

"That'll do fine, Viktor, thank you!" called out Caroline, as the helicopter banked to starboard again and began to follow along the coastline.

"Welcome to Samana Bay!" called out Viktor, as they flew along the coastline.

"Are you sure we're building a naval base and not a beach resort!?" called out Aden, with a laugh, as they passed over the pristine waters of Samana Bay.

"More than just a naval base, Sweden's interests in this region has grown with our allies, and if we are to be able to properly defend those interests, this is going to be more than just a naval base," called back Hollimann, from her seat.

"How does that channel at the head of the bay look, Viktor?" asked the Naval Officer, Captain Edward Schultz, an expert in naval engineering, a gruff old salt who knew his way around the waters of the Baltic like the back of his hand. This new climate was much different to him, and he had been entranced by the beauty of it all, staring out the side of the helicopter for most of the flight.

"Not sure, skipper," called back the pilot, as he banked towards the mouth of the bay, which appeared to have a shallow channel through it.

"We got any sonobuoys on board?" asked Schultz, leaning back to look forward into the cockpit.

"Just what the doctor ordered, skipper, where do you want it?"

"Middle of that channel if you can manage it."

"Consider it done!"

Caroline just grinned, as the helicopter banked to the left, then begin slowing down as it approached what looked like a darker channel in the water of the channel into Samana Bay. Finally the helicopter came to a hovering stop above the water, and Viktor held the aircraft steady, as the helicopter's crew chief punched in a few things into a computer on a dashboard right behind the cockpit. The crew chief then gave a thumbs up, and they all heard what sounded like a loud metallic click over the whirring of the helicopter's blades, as it hovered over the water steadily, the pilots keeping the helicopter steady, despite a steady breeze Caroline could feel coming through the doorgun window. The sonobuoy fell the one hundred or so feet into the water, and surfaced.

"Reading a depth of sixteen meters, sir!" called out Viktor, as the helicopter began to make its way across the mouth of the bay again.

"Perfect! Thank you!"

"How do you like it, Marlena?" called out Caroline, as they steadily made their way across the mouth of the bay.

"Looks like the terrain around here isn't too bad, hills are mostly rolling, no aircraft is going to have to go straight vertical on take off, not much in the way of obstructions for at least a couple air strips, maybe even four or five," responded Marlena, as she looked out the window, then looked at Caroline. "Any idea on weather conditions in this area?"

"I was able to gather some information on the trip here with some of the French meteorological staff from this region, they're still settling in, but they don't say this area gets much in the way of heavy fog or anything that might be of concern," called out Aden, Caroline looking over at him, then at Marlena, and shrugging.

"The Gulf Stream primarily brings in winds from the southeast in this area, and blows them to the northwest, so your optimal runway placements to avoid heavy crosswinds are those directions," added Schultz, looking over at the group, as he leaned against the inside of the fuselage. "I'm seeing some perfect areas to put anchorages in this area, General, and with that island at the head of the bay, we got an optimal security situation, being able to control access to this bay, while its also protected from freak weather events. We also have optimal coverage from all three sides to be able to curtain this area with anti-air defenses, and with friendly French forces in control of the nearby islands, plenty of areas for early warning systems."

Caroline nodded, then she turned to look at Marlena, and asked, "What do you think, Colonel?"

"I concur, this is probably one of the better sites I've seen, geographically, for a joint services base, open access to the Atlantic, no real possibility of being bottled up by land-based anti-ship systems, if the ships need to make for open ocean, all you have to do is sail right out of the harbor," nodded Marlena, looking back at Caroline, and shrugging.

"Alright, let's head back to Santo Domingo, and Mr. Dawkins can cable the French Foreign Ministry," said Caroline, as the helicopter banked towards the northern shore to give them one last look at the pristine bay.

The group of Generals, Admirals, and Air Marshals stood around the table at Tre Kronor, the early spring storm outside continuing to send bolts of lightning and rumbles of thunder across the sky of Stockholm. In the last few months, the country had continued to refashion and regenerate its own unique political system, which revolved around the High Commissariat, led by the Secretary General, Christian Nyquist. The rebuilding process after the civil war was still underway, and the economy was still languishing from the loss of production during that time, but life continued for the healing Lion of the North. Sweden was still a strong state, and despite its possible losses in confidence, probably amongst its regional neighbors as a bastion of political stability and liberal politics, its people were adjusting to the new state built on limited representative government.

These general officers, many of whom were much younger then those of comparable militaries in other states, looked around when the door to the meeting room opened, and all over them turned to salute. Christian Nyquist entered the room, nodding his respects to the officers, his young and energetic face in a smile. He was followed by Caroline Bernadotte, in her military uniform, the former monarch, who had been appointed as Speaker of the High Commissariat, essentially Nyquist's Head of Government and deputy, as well as Ludwig Horn, now retired from military service, and serving as Commissar of Defense. Following the line of national leaders, a few aides would come into the room, as the general staff turned back to the table, which was a liquid crystal display image of Sweden, as well as the surrounding region.

"So gentlemen, I trust none of us had trouble with coming in on such a gloomy evening," said Nyquist, with a polite smile, most of the gathered officers smiling, a few issuing a low chuckle, as he took his place at the end of the table, flanked by Horn and Caroline. "Thank you all for being in attendance, this evening, I called this meeting of our General Staff to discuss progress that has been made since the revolution on improving Sweden's defenses. I hope all of us can bring some form of good news the table, I trust." As he spoke, drinks that had been pre-ordered by the meeting-goers arrived, and many took a moment to take a sip of their drinks, Nyquist among them, as he sipped lightly from a tumbler of whiskey, he finally spoke up, "So, gentlemen, where do we stand? I'd like to start with external progress and work our ways in, if that will keep things organized."

One of the younger generals, tanned a little more than most, a blonde haired man of short stature, near the other end of the table, raised a finger, and Nyquist nodded, "General Neuhammar, our trusted counterpart from the Caribbean, how are things in the tropics? Other than the ever-clear crystal waters, sandy beaches, and soft tropical breezes." Nyquist's comment garnered a wave of chuckles around the table, as Neuhammar keyed some buttons on the LCD map table, a picture of the Caribbean came up, accompanied by the map zooming in on Hispaniola. All of the Swedish units in the region began showing up on the map in respective callsigns, as well as known locations of allied forces, all updated in real time.

"Currently, Mr. Nyquist, engineering and sustainment units have set up depots around Samana Bay, here, on Northeast Hispaniola," said Neuhammar, zooming in on the large bay and the land surrounding it. Colonel Hollimann has reported that heavy construction equipment has begun the process of laying out the first foundations of what will be, within the year, of five airbases, two of them with double runways, three of them able to handle all known aircraft without problem. In the bay itself, the naval engineering force that was dispatched to Santo Domingo arrived, and is working off our afloat forward staging base, SUS Monolith, which will be reinforced by its sister ship, SUS Edifice, barges that were acquired locally are working with heavy equipment to dredge out the channel to Samana Bay for further expansion. The air force and navy are all working together one planning a defensive line that surrounds the bay with what will be significant amounts of anti-aircraft, anti-missile, and anti-ship weaponry, all ground based. These systems will complement first strike capabilities which will be provided by the on-station aircraft that will be posted there once construction is complete."

As Neuhammar spoke, he inserted a flashdrive into a connection port, and let the map table read out the application, and as his presentation progressed, the real-time map was updated with information, until it was complete. Flashing airbase markers would be noted, as well as information about the channel into Samana Bay, where fathom readings came up in an information bubble. Pictures of the bay's surroundings from multiple directions and angles, including several topographical and satellite photographs showed up in the multimedia presentation that Neuhammar had assembled. Anchorage locations were pointed out in markers, with information on what ships could be possibly berthed there.

"What about accommodations for ground forces?" asked Caroline, speaking up from Nyquist's right.

"Accommodations for on-shore personnel are to be provided at the apex of Samana Bay, in a garrison housing complex that will be known as Joint Forces Garrison Caribbean, calculations are still being run, but we expect to be able to house up to twelve thousand ground forces personnel permanently. Further expeditionary quartering, which would include tents, temporary housing, and such, could raise the bases' capacity up to seventy-five thousand individuals," answered Neuhammar, with a smile and a nod. A couple whistles were issued from some of the officers surrounding the table, and Nyquist nodded.

"Very impressive, General, how many ships would Samana Bay be able to handle at any given time?" asked Nyquist, interested in the project.

"We're not completely finished running the math on that, Secretary General, but we think that the Bay could at least handle two reinforced carrier battlegroups at one time, if not more, that's just early projections," responded Neuhammar, getting a nod of thanks for his answer from Nyquist.

Nyquist looked around the table, waiting for more questions, but given Neuhammar's particularly detailed report, it seemed like none were forthcoming, so he said, "So, lets talk about the situation for the entrance to the Baltic, shall we?"

An older admiral at the end of the table, who had a flash of silver gray hair, and a dashing appearance, held up his finger, and Nyquist nodded, "Admiral Valve, please, enlighten us."

"Thank you Secretary General, the situation at the entrance to the Baltic," he said, in a calm and confident voice, remains to be a tough one to answer. Valve keyed the LCD map table, and drew the map back to Sweden and its home region; Scandinavia and Northern Europe, before selecting the the area of interest for the LCD map, which was the Skagerrak. The map should relevant real-time data of Swedish naval and air patrols over the body of water, the connection to the Baltic to the North Sea. "As we know, we still possess friendly relations and a diplomatic agreement with Norway-Denmark, as well as our stalwart alliance with France." The map switched around, via voice command, to these various countries, before switching back to the Skagerrak again.

"The Skagerrak is a bottleneck for our naval forces based in Gothenberg, an enemy with a fast composition of naval forces can potentially force our navy into a defensive battle, and give no room for maneuver. Our ships are vulnerable to land-based aircraft anywhere in this region of operations, at land, and at sea, the Grand Fleet is built for regional battles, and with the experienced crews, they will put up a good fight. But we need to be able to preserve our forces, not just be able to put up a good fight; therefore, it is my suggestion that we move our naval forces to a friendly base, or bases in Norway, still in range of our air protection, but able to have more room to maneuver. The defense of the Baltic and the Skagerrak should fall to the Baltic Squadron, who will receive all of our heavy patrol boats and most of the littoral combat ships," said Valve, as he brought up the composition of both fleets, the map switching back to a view of the region, and showing a flashing position on the vessels, most of them in port.

The map view then switched to a composition of the fleets, and Valve deftly reached over, and selected the outline profiles of vessels, their names underneath them, as well as their commanding officers, and crew numbers, and switched them around to explain his argument. "By doing this, we allow for our more blue-water vessels to maintain their flexibility, while letting our littoral craft handle the work around the waters of the nation, all backed up by the Swedish Aerial Services. To control the Baltic and Skagerrak, we also have area denial capabilities along the entire coastline, with the deployment of varying numbers of anti-ship missile batteries, most of them mobile, on shore. In addition, the air force can provide its own punch with its own aircraft with various anti-ship missiles, as well as anti-ship ballistic missiles that are located in Northern Sweden for regional flexibility."

"What about other area denial weapons?" asked Horn, as he folded his arms and looked at Valve.

Valve keyed the map again, which brought up flashing lines of dots spread along the Swedish coastline, and said, "In accordance with naval and air force directives that were issued about two months ago, mine countermeasures vessels have been operating at night, in conjunction with aircraft, to drop a mine developed by Bofors and Ericsson in a joint project." Valve brought up the profile of the weapon, which looked like a large tube, with a cut away drawing showing two torpedoes inside of the mine. "This is the Bofors-Ericsson TORMINE Block 1, a two-torpedo mine that can launch at a range of up to thirty nautical miles, it can be used against surface or submerged targets, and has a placement life of five years. The mine is activated by an onshore controller, who can have manual or autonomous controls of the EMP-resistant mine, our merchant fleet, along with our navy, have all be equipped with semi-active beacons that can help this torpedo distinguish friendly from foe."

"What about traditional mines?" asked a naval staff officer, across from Valve.

"The air force has agreed that the best way to deploy our area denial weapons, including various types of mines, most of which are derived from the Mark 62 Quickstrike Mine, which can have preset detonation mechanisms, is by air. Therefore, depending on our stance and the location of our conflict, the air force maintains at least one squadron at all times for dropping traditional mine equipment," answered an Aerial Services Marshal, who was standing next to Valve.

Valve nodded, "Indeed, some of our aircraft can deploy close to one hundred mines in one run, which is pretty impressive when you think about twelve aircraft alone being able to deploy these weapons anywhere in our waters, in thirty minutes or even less, in most cases. Anything else?"

Nyquist looked around the room, for raised hands, before saying, "Alright, lets move onshore, so to speak, shall we? Air defenses?"

"Wait, what about early warning systems?" piped up Caroline, suddenly speaking out next to Nyquist before the meeting could move on.

"Thought you'd never ask," said Valve, with a grin, as he zoomed out of the Skagerrak, centering the map around the North Sea and entrances to the Baltic. "As we know, the North Sea has a shallow trench that extends into the Skagerrak, all the way down from the Norwegian Sea. Its by no means the Marianas Trench in the Pacific, but it is an anomaly, and one that is potentially an avenue for submarines to make runs at the Skagerrak. To counteract this, we've begun the construction of a sound surveillance system that is a series of underwater hydrophones along the North Sea-side of the trench, in international waters."

Valve keyed the map, to show a flashing symbol of a task force, as well as a line that extended back into Sweden, "This is the Ericsson-owned cable-layer, known as the Apollo, who is working under contract for the Swedish National Navy, with a complete Swedish Navy crew, with members of the SIG. The project was announced in a local paper as a communications project that is to connect with the Svalbard Archipelago, the reason why the Apollo is currently listed as a task group, is because she is not alone. Currently, the special operations and nuclear attack submarines, Horsa and Beowulf are alternately working beneath the Apollo with miniature submersibles. They are installing the undersea listening posts and connecting them with the communications line that runs back to Sweden, here, south of Gothenberg."

"In addition to the underwater surveillance system, the entire region is already patrolled by at least two nuclear attack submarines, that reinforce the four diesel ultraquiets who move on random patrols about the region. And this doesn't even count our naval air patrols conducted by patrol aircraft and helicopters, the latter covering the international waters of the Skagerrak," nodded Valve, looking up Caroline, with a smile.

"Thank you Admiral," nodded Caroline, as she folded her arms and smiled back at the handsome Naval officer.

"Alright, if that is all on that topic, shall we move on to early warning systems?" asked Nyquist, with a nod as he looked around the assembly. A younger officer, with dark hair and a clean shaven face, three ranks down from Nyquist raised a finger, and Nyquist nodded, "Air Marshal Lieben, you have the floor."

"Thank you Secretary General," replied Lieben, clearing his throat as he began keying the map and returning its view to center on Sweden. "Now, as all of us mostly know, the Swedish Air Defense Network is comprised of multiple types of early warning systems, with various ranges and capacities and functions. Some of the platforms are mobile, such as being mounted on vehicles, trailers, or even using aircraft, such as AWACS and the high-altitude early warning blimps procured from the United Federation of the East, a number of our systems also are fixed. Currently we have multiple over-the-horizon radar systems that are spread out across the Swedish interior and coastline, giving our country a three-hundred and sixty degree capability. Over the horizon systems have also begun construction in Gotland, to give us better coverage over Northern and Eastern Europe and outwards towards Central Asia."

"A phased array warning system has also been installed to assist in the tracking and targeting of ballistic missile threats that could be potentially launched at our nation. Local radar and early warning assets also include thermographic cameras for increase infrared tracking capabilities, as well as variable-frequency radars. While most of these assets cannot give us a target lock on most stealth aircraft, they provide an early warning to inbound threats to scramble fighters. Relying on the NORDCOMM System, which is completely compartmentalized, we can give interception vectors on inbound threats, and launch counterstrikes accordingly with air superiority fighters, surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft cannons, and airborne missile trucks," added Lieben, as he looked around the table. "Shorter ranged phased-array warning sites provide our air defenses with anti-missile capabilities, and allow for mobile and fixed CIWS systems, including focused microwave energy systems to neutralize and scale down damage taken by an attack. All of this can be done in both strategic, and tactical manners, as the system is compartmentalized, with various warning sites that can be brought online providing redundancy."

"Any questions?" asked Nyquist, as he watched various pictures from the multimedia display come up on the map, highlighting the points that Leiben brought up.

"How much redundancy do we actually have, Air Marshal?" asked one of the ground forces generals, folding his arms.

"Currently? We can match most local radar and early warning assets with a one point five systems in reserve, that number decreases as you go towards the northern frontier, with the ratio being a one to one current redundancy. We would like to have the systems be one for two down in the south, and one for one point five in the northern frontier when our procurement is at its peak."

"Thank you," nodded the general.

"What about air base defenses?" asked Neuhammar, piping up interestedly as Leiben looked around the table for questions.

"I'll turn that over to Air Marshal Sachs, if you don't mind, Secretary General?" asked Leiben, looking over at Nyquist.

"Not at all."

Sachs, an older and balding air force officer stepped up the map, and keyed in a few things on the map keypad in front of him, to bring up a schematic of typical base. "Currently the Swedish Aerial Services has twenty-two different air facilities across the nation. This does not count all of our civilian aviation facilities, that also double as military bases. Most air bases are protected by CIWS systems, with multiple turrets depending on the base size and its designated importance status. There are also mobile air defenses that are in place to defend against air attacks, which are attached, like CIWS systems, depending on size and importance, to the base command."

Sachs looked around, before continuing, "To protect against aerial bombardment for sustained periods of time, some of the larger bases, including strategic bomber bases, like those around Lake Vanern, are equipped with subterranean elevator systems to provide protection against all but the most heaviest of penetration weapons. The existence of these systems is classified, and only select staff know about them. These allow us to retain strategic reserves of aircraft in case aircraft are caught on the ground and destroyed. Some of these chambers can fit as many as multiple squadrons of fighters or a whole squadron of bombers, and are located underneath existing hangers, and also have multiple exits," said Sachs, showing an interactive diagram of a hanger, with underground storage bays below. "These subterranean facilities are equipped to house and feed air crew in a NRBC environment, and have forced air systems to protect against such attacks. There are other countermeasures to bombardment of our air facilities, but that is the basics of the matter."

"Thank you, Marshal Sachs," nodded Neuhammar, as Nyquist looked around.

"Moving on to ground defenses," said Nyquist, as he looked over to the ground forces staff, who nodded.

One of the generals closest to Nyquist lifted up a finger, and the Secretary General said, "General Stiglitz, please enlighten us." Stiglitz was one of the younger generals, with a flash of dark brown hair, and like many of the younger officers, had a dashing appearance. He wore cuffs with the marks of the Guards, marking his prior service as part of the 1st Guards Army, Stiglitz was now the Chief of Staff of the Army, probably one of the youngest in Swedish history.

"Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, our ground defenses in Sweden are designed for a flexible defense. We have little in the way of fixed defenses, our forces are built on the concept that whatever we do, any fixed defenses will eventually fail. Thus, that is why we have the Swedish Home Army," said Stiglitz, nodding at a group of generals in blue uniforms, representing the Swedish Home Army, "The Swedish Home Army's multiple Falkjager Brigades are meant to be delaying forces, built for local action, while counterattacks are organized." Stiglitz centered the map on Sweden again, and keyed the positions of the reserve brigades, which were built to be the first line of defense against a foreign invasion, flashing markers showed their locations.

"Local municipal police forces are also trained in counter-invasion defense, and since the rise of the People's Government, have been in the process of equipping themselves with light weaponry and engaging in maneuvers with Swedish Home Army units. These forces are backed up by the local defense volunteers, who meet once a month for weapons and tactics training, in a program that is sponsored by the government. This not only trains local volunteers in weapons handling, it also has the effect of getting individuals out and active, as well as building relationships in the community, so it is bolstering a sense of community in many regions, and builds friendships between individuals as well as gets them involved in the government. People vote for local defense volunteer captains of the municipalities, and many of these people go on to be our municipal commissars," reported Stiglitz, as the map suddenly brought up displays of polls taken amongst the communities, as well as volunteer numbers that were willing to perform defense duties on the front line.

"Although I admit that the flexibility and discipline of these formations is suspect to not be able to hold up under rigorous combat, they bolster our numbers, and even if they do not fight, they are also trained in providing intelligence and have optional classes on handling communications equipment, as well as gathering useful intelligence. The key to our counter-invasion plans is the fast redeployment of military forces from their bases in the interior of the nation, as well as forward counter-invasion bivouacs, to blunt any offensives on land. Our air defenses are tied in with those of the air force, and comprise mostly tactical anti-aircraft weapons, such as the SASAMS system and the PATRIA AMV-AD, and can be expected to be able to provide satisfactory air defense in conjunction with our air force," said Stiglitz, as he outlined the numbers of anti-aircraft weaponry in the ground forces.

"What about electro-magnetic pulse attacks?" asked Horn, looking at Stiglitz seriously.

Stiglitz grinned, and responded, "As we saw in Central Asia, our allies used large amounts of electromagnetic pulse attacks to try to disrupt the Kingdom of Cochin's air defense network. As of right now, the ground forces are in the process of hardening themselves against electromagentic pulse attacks. Measures such as using vacuum tubing for nonessential components, as well as armoring wiring and essential computer processing equipment to harden them from EMP blasts. As many of you have seen, our budget for spare parts, especially computer and electronic parts has increased dramatically." Stiglitz brought up budgetary charts and year-to-date spending estimates on various facets of the military, noting that the category marked 'Replacement Parts and Procurement' in these charts.

"Right now, Comrades, the people's armed forces already have the tools of the trade to defend our nation and go on the offensive abroad if needed, as shown by our deployments to Central Asia. The Swedish National Navy's auxiliary forces can put together a large amount of vessels, from high speed and regular RO-ROs, container vessels, and so on and so forth, for replenishment of ground forces, with the tonnage to be able to maintain stockpiles of supplies and equipment for large expeditionary forces. The logistical capacity here at home is substantial here at home, with the civilian railway networks being able to be utilized for high-speed transport of equipment and supplies from our quartermaster strategic reserves, which are still being stockpiled at various depots in Northern Sweden," noted Stiglitz, pointing to the defense forces' quartermaster depots in remote locations in northern Sweden. "Strategic emergency fuel depots are still under construction across the country, their existence masked by civilian refueling facilities."

"What is our capacity for deploying a full division to Samana Bay for climate training and expeditionary force duties within the next four weeks?" asked Caroline, looking impressed at Stiglitz's presentation thus far.

"Mechanized or Motor Infantry?"

"How about a full motor infantry division, along with a Marine Expeditionary Unit?"

"General Neuhammar," said Stiglitz.

"Well, if we were to deploy forces right now to the Caribbean, they'd have to live in expeditionary conditions, limited services, no barracks, et cetera. But if we wanted to rush deploy forces to Hispaniola, we could have both units there and in such conditions, within four weeks. Within two more weeks? We could have another half division on the ground, no problem."

"Thank you General," nodded Caroline, with a polite smile.

"Any other questions for General Stiglitz?" asked Nyquist, as he took a sip from his tumbler and smiled around the room, at the silence.

"Alright, now to move on to potential employable systems that the government has been looking at, Ludwig, if you please," said Nyquist, turning to the Commissar of Defense, who nodded and keyed the table. A multitude of various weapon systems began appearing on the map screen, from unmanned aircraft to potential future munitions, as well as various sensor equipment.

"As General Stiglitz pointed out, the people's defense forces are changing in terms of procurement, we are looking to build upgraded systems, not procure fully new ones. Currently we are looking into multiple unmanned aerial vehicles, including tactically launched vehicles, already in the field testing phase, such has Saab's Skeldar helicopter UAV. These provide battlefield commanders with their own personally-controlled vehicles which can provide information on enemy location, force composition, as well as perform basic electronic warfare tasks, it is planned that we will have at least one of these vehicles for every infantry or mechanized company in the coming two years," said Horn, focusing in on a picture and specifications of a small helicopter-like vehicle.

"The Swedish Commissariat of Defense is also looking into the CybAero Taranis, we believe this aircraft will be an upgraded version of the current 47s we procured from the United Federation of the East, incorporating technology that we put into use in the SAF-9s. The Taranis will be an unmanned and almost completely autonomous observation and light attack drone, and it is stealthy enough to provide a survivable platform over the battlefield. CybAero has begun putting the Taranis through its first prototype tests, and the results will be in, at the end of the month," said Caroline, bringing up a wedged shape aircraft that was remarkably similar to the SAU-47Cs that were already employed by the defense forces.

"As you all know, the people's defense forces have also begun the receiving of the first short and medium range strategic missile weaponry, besides intermediate-range, intercontinental, and sea-launched ballistic missiles. As we saw in the war against the Kingdom of Cochin, ballistic missiles were deadly weapons when employed correctly and under the right conditions, Bofors has been working alongside the Commissariat of Defense to begin procurement of specialized warheads for these missiles, including delivery systems for thermobaric and wide-dispersed munitions. These warheads are already being delivered to our strategic forces, led by the Swedish Aerial Services' Strategic Weaponry Division," said Horn, as he brought up pictures of the various ballistic missiles currently in inventory, with numbers. "Right now, Sweden can field a total of one hundred short range ballistic missiles, as well as forty intermediate range ballistic missiles, it is expected that Sweden will be able to develop the capacity to procure at least two hundred and fifty missiles a year, of various types, at full industrial capacity, and will stockpile these weapons up to respectable levels."

"The Swedish Aerial Services is also working in conjunction with the Kiruna Spaceport in beginning to stockpile spare low-earth orbit surveillance satellites, and within the next two years, will have twenty satellites stockpiled. Currently, all satellite losses in the conflict with the Kingdom of Cochin have been replaced, and their numbers bolstered by ten additional LEO surveillance satellites," added Sachs, nodding at Nyquist.

"I believe that wraps up most of this strategy session, and if I'm not mistaken, the reason why some of us perhaps made their appearances, is ready; dinner! So let us adjourn this meeting for now, and we can discuss possible future strategy sessions while we feast," said Nyquist, noting that an aide had signaled to him that dinner was ready to be served. The rain outside still came down, but the confidence of those around the map table, whose image centered on Sweden now that the presentations were over, was never better.

"So its true then, you're taking up the navy on its requests for the retirement of the transport docks?" asked Admiral Valve, who was sitting next to Caroline Bernadotte, as the collection of military officers and government officials dined on an exquisite buffet of food.

"I see you picked up on that, Tam," responded Caroline, with a small smile as she looked at the dashing older admiral. "Yes, the Commissariat of Defense has approved putting the amphibious transport docks in reserve, Commissar Horn was very impressed with your report and was able to present to the High Commissariat."

"What are the intended replacements?" asked Valve, looking interestedly at the young Speaker.

"We plan on replacing the amphibious transport docks with two further Resolute-class amphibious assault ships, along with two of the new proposed Superb-class amphibious assault ships. Kockums has put out bids for them, and we are expected to begin the first payment installments to them within the next three months, provided the budget gets passed," responded Caroline, as she dabbed at her mouth with her napkin daintily.

"The Superb? Without the well-deck?"

"Indeed, we feel that we should instead use the extra space on board for vertical take-off and landing aircraft, while still maintaining the Marine Expeditionary Unit on board, which can be transported from helicopters on other ships. The Superb-class is intended to work in conjunction with the other amphibious assault ships, or with our afloat forward staging bases. Saves on procuring more helicopters, and allows for the vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to supplement our small carrier wings with added strike capabilities," said Caroline, having read the report and having heard the strategy briefing in the High Commissariat.

"I also saw that there is a possibility for the procurement of the newest destroyer that Kockums put out," added Vice-Admiral Strom Armfeldt, one of the younger admirals, and the chief operations officer of the Baltic Fleet.

Armfeldt was sitting across from them at this particular table, mainly populated by Navy and Marine General Officers. While Caroline was indeed a member of the ground forces, she had always loved sailing, and she found the navy to be a fascinating branch of the service. While it may have been the armies job to ultimately go ashore and occupy territory, it was the navy's job to be the first ones to put troops ashore and soften up defenses, which made it an admirable bunch of people with various strategic and tactical concerns, many of whom were very astute and had a penchant for attention to detail.

"I'm guessing you like what you saw, Admiral?" said Caroline, with a flash of her well-manicured eyebrows and one of her signature dazzling smiles, which made the younger officer blush and Valve just chuckle heartily and sip his flute of wine. She chuckled, knowing full well she could make men uncomfortable if they didn't know her playful attitude, then said, "Yes, we've been looking into replacing our current destroyers, with another one of Kockums designs."

"Gotta love Karlskrona AB," said Valve, referring to the Swedish shipbuilding giant, which was also known as 'Kockums'. "They sure know how to build ships, and they do it well."

"The design you saw on the table, was the Daring-class reduced visibility destroyer, lots of neat modifications were put into that from designs used on the arsenal ships that Kockums built. Pop-up mini-guns for close in defense, microwave-emitting apparatuses, more capacity for UAVs, all with the destroyer that requires a smaller complement of crew," said Caroline, with a grin. "We're still working out the prices with Kockums, but it will be significant, we should be able to work out a long-term procurement payoff plan, by soaking up any outstanding debts that Kockums have, placing the burden on the government, rather than the company."

"What are we looking at for times of procurement?" asked Armfeldt, looking at Valve, then Caroline.

"If we accept the proposal and begin construction? At least a year and a half, depending on prioritization and all that," responded Valve, looking at Caroline, who nodded in affirmation.
