Tunguska AA attempted to lock on to the missiles, but it did no good. The missiles hit their mark, seven missing due to errors in coordinates. The other missiles damaged RADAR stations in Kano and near Sarnunga, and some military installations in Benin were damaged as well. Naval batteries were placed on high alert, on watch for anything unusual on the coast. Air Force patrols began to spread to the sea as well, with F-23s searching for any enemy craft.

In the meantime, even more soldiers were moved to the coastline, preparing for an eventual assault.

As the UFE missiles begin to strike, many planes attempt to take off. Some make it in the air, most do not. 19 Squadrons of F-35 Lightening IIs survive the blaze. 9 Air bases fell into ruin. The transporters had not been targeted. The helicoptor divisions remained un-hit. The bombers had been hit hard and lost all but 2 squadrons. Few attacks by the UFE were successful in being deflected by Anti-Cruise Missile Defense Units. As the attack was unexpected, it was thought that the UFE was so deep in war in Asia that it would not reach us. Thus being the UFE had done major damage to the Arctic Airforce. The AAF release a statement below.

Today the Arctic Armed Forces were hit with a large barrage of missiles by the United Federation of the East. As we enter this war to defend our ally, we understand that the "other side" needs to defend their allies aswell. This hit to our air forces dealt a major blow to our nation. We hope we can end this conflict swiftly. Today we remember the lives of 1,241 civilians that were killed in the battle. We will avenge these losses, but in order to do that it will take very detailed strategic planning to ensure that our soldiers return home safely.

110,000 Soldiers, 10 Squadrons of AH-1Z Viper, and 400 tanks are deployed to Narvik via Air and Naval transport to take refuge in the Military bases, The construction of 3 more military bases have concluded. Where these soldiers will be held. They are intentionally at least 50 miles away from Narvik.

While the Declaration of War had already made the fleet move to defensive positions against Svalbard the ships in the far north would still be mostly caught off guard. While automated defenses kicked in the moment the B-1s were detected on RADAR the aircraft were still able to fire their weapons. However due to the large distance maintained between the ships this surprise would last only a short time. Within seconds the other ships had obtained targeting information and defending fighters were put into the air. The B-1s lacking stealth features would be an easy detection, the F-35 escorts while harder to detect were given away by staying so close to the B-1s. From the ships SAMs and when too close CIWS systems engaged, the missiles that came in range of CIWS systems would also be targeted taking down a fair few. Once the aircraft turned around for a second run the F-99s and F-1s would be in the air and engage the hostiles using Meteor-2s, missiles and if close enough their ETC cannons. In the end due to the surprise and amount of missiles fired 5 ships were destroyed, 3 frigates, 1 submarine and 1 destroyer. Another 2 destroyers, 1 frigate and 1 battleship had received significant damage forcing them to move back to safe harbors for repair. Of the fighters that intercepted around 12 F-99s and 4 F-1s were destroyed. All in all while the air raid had not destroyed the fleet it did deal a serious blow and made the entire Atlantic Fleet pull back to Europe. Ships near Portugal would move for Norway to take the place of the destroyed and disabled ones. The news was received in Athens with slight shock. Immediately the propaganda machine began to run in overdrive, patriotic songs were released in the dozens and on all available media the FAR was shown as an incompetent nation standing in the way of the glorious socialist revolution. At the same time as this happened the generals were in intensive discussions on what to do about this most recent development.

(Imperial War Cabinet, Athens)

These discussions happened deep underground in the well-secured Imperial War Cabinet, while for the majority of this war the monarchs had delegated it to Imperial Command alone this one was personal for Valerio. With a serious look on his face he walked into the meeting room.

“Your Imperial Highness” Field Marshal Manolis said as the entire room saluted. “We are sorry about your brother, he was a fine captain on a fine ship”

Valerio nodded “What are the plans for the counter-attack?”

“We have 3 scenarios, varying from a moderate retaliatory strike against assets in Norway to a full scale strategic bombing of Svalbard.”

“Show them no mercy, I want a thousand deaths for every drop of Athenian blood”

“Yes, your highness”

Operation Eternal Fury
April 10, 2039

The first part of the operation was the emergency evacuation of all embassy personnel from Svalbard. These diplomats would be taken back to Athens through allied and international airspace.

Much like against Kurland the missile silos and ballistic submarine force was the first to kick in, late in the evening satellites would detect around 30 launches from various locations in the Athenian Federation and from the sea. These ballistic missiles armed with kinetic and thermobaric warheads were to release their warheads over military and government installations throughout Svalbard. Civilian locations were not spared and the intent was for the destruction to be enormous.

From every airbase in the mainland Athenian Federation the bomber force went into the air, a total of 20 squadrons, half the B-10 and the other half the B-11. With F-1s and F-99s providing escort but remaining far away enough from the bomber force to completely avoid detection. 2 B-11 squadrons left the formation near the fleet in Norway. By now Imperial Command had gotten a fair idea on the locations of the Arctic bases in Norway, reports had also shown there had been massive movements to those locations. A total of 384 hypersonic cruise missiles, divided over the bases with half of them intended for Narvik, were fired from the internal bays. These missiles were a combination of conventional, cluster and HPM warheads. This combination was chosen to primarily cause destruction to base facilities, secondly to destroy unprotected electronics and finally to cause such damage to runways to make further landings impossible. In addition this final part would also make supplying very hard.

The remaining bombers remained on course to Svalbard, once within range to release missiles the targets were acquired, military installations not hit by the UFE or missile attacks, economic assets such as harbors, airports and fuel reserves and the economic districts of major cities. Special concern would be focused on the capital and more specifically the residencies of the government. With the targets acquired 3456 hypersonic cruise missiles left their internal bays. Once the weapons were gone the bombers would turn around and head for Athenian territory at their maximum speed, excelling to Mach 6 for the B-10s and 8 for the B-11s at altitude, the bombers from the run on Norway had already preceded them. Athens and Rome had hopefully gained their pound of flesh. After the attacks a speech would be broadcasted live from Athens, on it viewers could see the Western Emperor backed by generals and admirals.

“Comrades,

As you all know our men and women fighting in Norway have been attacked by fascist forces seeking to halt the progression of our glorious socialism. Minutes ago our forces have retaliated and taken part in a massive bombing of Svalbard and the Arctic bases in Norway. This will not be the end of our war, we will fight on.

From the Black Sea to the Gulf of Mexico. Our Hellenic Army is the strongest of all. Comrades of the Hellenic Forces, hold your fists tight and prepare your Beretta’s . Never fear. Never despair. For we are and forever will be the greatest of all. Now remember the fine men and women lost in the attack by the fascist forces and fight on, if not on the frontlines, at home.”

Keeping the attack in mind the Hellenic Air Force established CAPs over the fleet near Norway 24/7 and regularly F-1s from bases in the mainland would fly out to the fleet to assist. Another surprise attack by air was unacceptable.

Operation Party Rock
April 10, 2039

While Operation Eternal Fury was running in overdrive Party Rock was not neglected. The paratroopers had lost about 50 men in the firefights to take and hold the harbor in Stavanger, around 10 men were lost when trying to hold the airport however in the end the objectives were achieved. Enemy soldiers approaching the harbor or airport would be engaged by paratroopers and U-1s, after all for the relatively small amount of land held the Hellenic Army was quite overpowered. It wouldn’t take that many to hold a few kilometers. The Amphibious Transportable Docks, now backed by a 5 module Mobile Offshore Base began transporting their troops to the airport and harbor. They were unsure about the numbers in the mountains however it was away enough from their locations to not form an immediate threat, the artillery and guerilla’s in the mountains would be a concern for a later date. It was expected the complete deployment of 15,000 soldiers would take a day and the tanks en route about a week.

As the missiles come towards the bases, The defense systems began to do their best to defend the bases. Mostly razed, Fort Nordkrig falls into oblivion, a dust cloud breaths over the snow. The SAM sites took off to intercept many of the air planes that got close and attempted to bomb the forts. The military knows it must act fast to defend the land that has been hit. Many government, economic, and businesses were hit, killer numerous civilians. The AAF's retaliation was into plan.

At approximately 10:23 an AAF Ares Arleigh Burke Destroyer released 2 RIM-161D Standard Missile 3s. The two missiles were aimed for Athenian satellite. With the high accuracy of the missile, two should do the trick.

The Arctic Armed Forces and The Arctic Air Force developed a satellite named the ARES II. Getting its name from the ship that launched the missile at the Athenian Satellite, it was shot into the skies by a Delta II. It hovers above Norway, Germany, The Danzig Reich, The Federation of Arctic Regions, and Kurland. It was launched to protect Norway and take pictures of Athenian military in Norway.

F-3s would zoom in on the remaining air assets using their HDRM cannons and tactical air missiles to hit the remaining F-35 squadrons. Additionally the F-3s would pick up the radar signals of the SAM defenses, which the Svalbard defenses would have used to track the incoming cruise missiles. This data was transmitted to the B-11 bombers, which fired anti-radiation missiles against these positions to finish blinding the Svalbard capability.

Skyhawk electronic warfare platforms, AWACs, and battlefield control units would be sent in. Electronic warfare platforms would concentrate their AESA radar waves on various sensors to fry them and jam the enemy's reactive capability to make way for the next phase.

Twenty four F-1 Fighters would be dispatched as a sweep against naval assets. Each would fire off eight NGTAMs in anti-shipping configuration in sea skimming configuration from 250 kilometers before heading to rendezvous with A-47s for refueling. Their primary targets would be the Arleigh Burke and Ticonderoga Class ships with their formidable Surface to Air Capabilities.

This would be followed by an attack with Six F-3s. Each would engage a frigate, destroyer, or cruiser with two ER-M-51 hypersonic missiles. Then the six would break off into groups of two firing 4 NGTAMs in sea skimming configuration against the Iowas, setting two image recognition mode. They would be set to target the propulsion system of the Iowas disabling their ability to react.

Flying below the radar, six squadrons of Amphibious Assault Variant Pelican Super Heavy Lift Ground Effect Vehicles were launched from Sakhalin and Vladivostok, to transport a large assault force to Svalbard. With the defeat of the enemies radar defenses, the approach of so many heavy transports would go with little chance of notice.

Landing on Spitsbergen with four squadrons and Nordaustlandet with two squadrons. PLA forces would rapidly launch an expeditionary strike against the enemy positions utilizing speed and fire power. Each squadron was deployed with one Pelican with 12 Fury Super Heavy Main Battle Tanks to lead the assault against the Svalbard defenses in the center. A second special air denial unit was equipped with 1 command vehicle, 3 S-500 launcher, and 3 NLOS-AA Hydra. The rest of the units were deployed with a mechanized infantry combination of 3 Mounted Combat Systems, 10 Stryker II vehicles, 2 155 mm NLOS-Cannon, 2 120 mm NLOS-Mortars. These combined arms units would be tasked with rapidly overwhelming Svalbard positions using the element of surprise while using the Non-Line of Site Artillery to prevent the enemy from being able to manuver their own forces.

In the air the UFE employed six B-11s, freshly outfitted from their sortieing against the Noverians. Each of the units were equipped with air to air configuration, and had their AESA radars focused on engaging the enemy's helicopter squadrons. Additionally the anti-air units were deployed in positions to engage and destroy any helicopter gunships which may attempt to stop the armored cavalry assaults.

In their internal weapons bays the B-11s each carried five HPM warheads on ER-M-51s. These would be used to target enemy Leopard massings. Fired from the B-11s each of these would deploy a powerful electromagnetic pulse which would completely destroy Leopards transmissions thus disabling their capability to mobilize.

OOC:

Total Landing Force:
Spitsburgen:
1st Armored Expeditionary Corps
48 Fury SH MBT
120 Mounted Combat System MBTs
400 Stryker II IFVs
80 NLOS-C

As the United Federation Engages and takes out the Navy of the Arctic and the Air Support of the Arctic, President Varin feels the need to repeal the invasion. He gets on the phone with August Oliversen commanding him to start Operation Hammerzeit.

Operation Hammerzeit

The AAF is forced to Retreat to Ny-Alesund. As the forces retreat, The Hypersonic Missile Prepare for take off. On the retreat, the Missile land bases begin to fire 324 BrahMos Stealth Hypersonic Cruise Missiles on the invading UFE Forces. The locations where the BrahMos would hit were determined on the ARES II Satellite, launched earlier on. Most of the BrahMos missile's being stealthy were sure to decimate or give a huge hit to the invading forces.

President Varin and other government officials aboard 19 different civilian aircraft and head to Trondheim to stand with the majority of the Military.

Operation Eternal Fury

The anti-satellite missiles managed to destroy a single satellite in the extensive ISIS network, zero loss was experienced as the overlapping configuration of the satellites made sure another immediately took its place. Using the images from the remaining satellites the location of the destroyer was immediately determined, a B-10 took off from an airbase in Lisbon. Once in range of the destroyer the bomber released 16 M-52ER Hypersonic Cruise missiles specifically configured for anti-ship use. For now Imperial Command had decided Eternal Fury would be put to rest, intelligence had already shown most of the Arctic forces were stationed in Norway and the UFE was effective in dealing with the ruins that remained after the missile strikes.

Operation Party Rock

Using the confusion undoubtedly caused by the UFE invasion the largest deployment in the history of the Hellenic Army and Hellenic Air Force was started. Cover would be provided by fighters and interceptors against enemy aircraft stupid enough to halt the deployment. Using Airbus A410Ms(A plane based on the An-225 however more configured towards strategic deployment than the original) a large amount of units from the First Army was deployed bringing the total number of forces in Norway to 120,000 Thracians, 1,000 M-1 Cerberus and 2,000 vehicles belonging to the Future Combat Program. As Stavanger was way too small for this entire force the soldiers spread out to cover the south-west of Norway. Especially mountainous areas were avoided to not face the Norwegian army with the latter on higher ground, however NLOS-Cannons and NLOS-Mortars would stay nearby to assault the positions if they proved to be too much. The force would stop south of Bergen and north of Kristiansand where they established camps and secured positions. Reinforcements would be continued to be deployed in the form of another 100,000 Thracians, 1,000 M-1 Cerberus and 2,000 FCP vehicles.

In addition to serving as protection the Hellenic Air Force had also determined a secondary mission for the F-1s and F-99s. Arctic soldiers were on their way and hopefully demoralized about the news in the homeland, to show them they would never be save two F-99 squadrons and one F-1 squadron flew towards the forces on the march, missile locks were established on the Vipers serving as air protection, as soon as the locks where established Meteor-2s, eight per helicopter, fired at the helicopters. 30 U-1Bs followed in their wake, armed with air to ground missiles they established locks on moving armored vehicles. The missiles were set up in an anti-armor role, 120 of these missiles were fired from their internal bays and went for the formations while the U-1s fired their HDRM cannons at troops and armor. After the missiles were gone and sufficient rounds fired the U-1s returned to their carriers.

Dispatch from the United Federation of the East:

In order for the Arctic Federation's surrender to be recognized by the UFE, we demand their unconditional disarmament. Further we demand unconditional military access to the Arctic Federation.

On the Ground:

The BrahMOS missiles radar cross section would be expanded by the multiple AWAC units in area. Thus as the weapons approached automated systems onboard the S-500 and HYDRA anti-air units would activate. The S-500 would not fire followed by the Hydras would open up with HDRM ETC rounds. Additionally the active radar homing systems onboard the BrahMOS would enter into the UFE jamming fields dramatically reducing their accuracy. Of the 32 fired, 15 had severe course disruptions. Seven were destroyed by the S-500 interceptor missiles, seven additional by the Hydras. This left four striking within combat range. Causing a total of fourteen vehicles destroyed or rendered inoperable.

PLA troops continued their advance against the Arctic Federation forces taking advantage of the surrender terms to encircle units who were on the front line against the PLA, trapping them in pockets that could be wiped out, thus strengthing the UFEs negotiating hand.

We did not close the St. Lawrence Riverway to just you, we closed it to everyone. Do not mistake a move to ensure national security as one aimed against any specific country. The St. Lawrence Riverway, while a vital resource for many countries, is a massive national security risk along our northern border. Cargo ships loaded with troops could easily be transported up next to northern cities and then released. Such a threat is not allowed to go unnoticed. As is common Imperial policy with a war threat, we have secured our borders in the interest of national security. That includes the St. Lawrence Riverway.

"Sir, are you sure this is the path that we want to be heading down?" The Emperor turned his head towards the man who spoke.

"What do you mean, Henry?"

"The closing of the St. Lawrence, sir. Was it necessary at this point in time?"

"You've seen the satellite images the same as I have. They're building up at their naval base and the ships are using the St. Lawrence to do it. Not only will locking it down prevent them from doing that, but it will hopefully provoke them into being the aggressor."

"And why would it do that, sir?"

"History, Henry, history. The first United States cut off oil supplies to Japan during the early days of World War Two, oil supplies that were crucial for their war effort. What did Japan do? They launched a surprise attack against Pearl Harbor." Thomas turned to look out the window over Washington, D.C. "Now we just have to figure out where our Pearl Harbor is going to be."

The Federation of Arctic Regions allows full military access by the United Federation of the East during the negotiation pieriod. We also agree on unconditional disarmament.

Midwest Republic News:

The average price per oil barrel increased from $81.05 to $93.89 and is expected to continue to rise as the St. Lawrence River remain closed. Oil isn't the only one being affected, every imported raw materials are also affected. The economy is expected to enter a recession until the trade traffic over land picks up.

The Legislative narrowly passed an economical sanction on Empire of Pravus Ingruo by 67 to 33 but President Cornwell vetoed it. The Legislative is expected to override the veto.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Classified:

Pravus Ingruo would notice a small buildup of forces along the southern Indiana-Ohio border and a seemly much larger buildup along the northern part of the border. A large reserve force was also positioned behind the northern buildup as well.

Along the border of PI's Missouri protectorate, a seemly large military force was also being built up with additional seemly large reserve forces positioned about 30 miles east.

In the Lawrence Naval Air base, beach-landing practices continued and naval exercises in the Gulf of St. Lawrence started.

PI would have to play a guessing game, which area would Midwest Republic attack, their eastern coastline, Missouri, Ohio, or all of them at the same time?

We can ship supplies, equipments, vehicles and infantry to you through your protectorate. Do be warned that the public is generally pacifist and that would handicap our ability to help you, but many of our businesses would be more than happy to sell needed war goods.
Midwest Republic News:

Two bills have been passed with overwhelming majority. "The Neutrality Act of 2039" and "The Cash and Carry Act of 2039".

The first act announced that Midwest Republic will not join the war unless provoked. The second act allowed its businesses to sell supplies and equipments to combatant countries but all payments must be in cash, not credit. The combatant countries are responsible for transporting their purchases and Midwest Republic will not provide protection of the shipments from other countries' attacks.

With the stirring music, the army arose and began to march. Led by a large band, the thousands of men began to swarm the large avenues of Vladivostok where their ranks tightened. Maintaining perfect step, the army moved through the city, saluting any UFE citizen they encountered. The discipline of the infantry was not matched by the tankers and the artillerymen. Any pretty girls on the side would be met with smiles, waves, and cheers, and candy was thrown to the children. The march ended at the harbor, which was choked with all sorts of civilian ships that were commandeered to transport the army to Alaska. Cruise ships were fitted to carry the tens of thousands of men, while the artillery pieces were lashed to the decks to survive the trip through the Bering Sea. Car ferries carried the jeeps, trucks, and tanks.

Rather than risk the trip through the open sea, where the convoy would be most vulnerable to hostile nations, the ships would hug the shores of the friendly nations. Cyrantia, USRS, and Vaule were all friendly, and the ships would be safe staying near their territorial waters. Heading North out of Vladivostok, the convoy would round the outer shore of Sakhalin Island, where they would meet the ships of the 2nd Fleet on the Northern part of the island. The fleet just managed to leave their winter home in Glubokiye Vodishtot just in time. The Amur was scheduled to be closed in just over a week due to winter ice. The Amur would take the head of the column, the Bira would take the right middle, and the Tunguska would take the left rear. Despite remaining far away from the fighting and on the very edge of international waters, the ships would be using their sonar and radar on full power to make sure no aircraft, surface ships, or submarines of the enemies of the UFE would sneak up on the convoy. Going at full speed, the whole trip, just over 900 miles, would take three days for the convoy. To provide air support, the fighter jets of the air force would fly back and forth between Glubokiye Vodishtot and Fort Behai, well within their 1,400 mile range with their drop tanks.

On the ships, the men proved that just because they were soldiers didn't mean they stopped being Marscurians. On one of the ships, Colonel Bialik of the 26th Heavy Artillery Regiment led his men in a karaoke version of "Stop in The Name of Love." Every time the fighter jets would soar overhead, the sailors on the decks of the ships would launch flares, which would be met by low-flying barrel rolls from the enthusiastic pilots.

After docking at Fort Behai, the army would set up their base and would await further orders from UFE commanders.
