10,000 people formed along one of Moscow’s main avenues in a protest rally against the government. Police reported that they had arrested at least 20 law breakers including General Secretary of the Communist Party Valentin Petrenko who allegedly attacked a member of a pro-government group that was demonstrating nearby.

The anti-government rally was organized by the Communist Party to speak out against what it calls heavy handed domestic politics employed by the Prime Minister. Other speakers at the rally criticized the government for allowing the Germanic neo-fascist state Hethenmark to bully Slavorussia’s ally Finland and sweep away the socialist revolution that had taken place there.

The protest occurred along Tverskaya Street with dozens of police and emergency vehicles parked near by. City officials gave permission for the rally, and despite police making several arrests the protest did not become violent. However it does highlight growing discontent with the Prime Minister’s all Kadet government as calls for a coalition between the Kadets and the Socialist Bloc grow louder.

“The Prime Minister and his party have a monopoly in the government, but the Communists and Social Democrats have a majority in the Duma. I think our government should reflect this fact.” Said one protester.

The Prime Minister has refused all demands for him to reshuffle his ministers by arguing that by law the Prime Minister is not accountable to Parliament; he/she is accountable to the Emperor. This leaves the socialists in a difficult position since the Emperor rarely acts on matters of politics without consulting the government ministers. Nevertheless the Socialist Bloc continues its attempts to court the Emperor and make him more independent from his government.
