OOC: Sorry Shammy, I just don't have the time to do a war justice :(

IC: The Empire's position is one of preventing too rapid actions. As such our only requirement for relinquishing current claims on Cuba is that the territory be created as an ATO protectorate pending the formation of a local government.

Official Statement from the Government of the Dixie Confederacy

The Dixie Confederacy is appalled by the heightened tensions over this dispute and, like Naboo and the UFE have stated previously, we urge both sides to calm down and negotiate an end to this matter. Has the North American continent not seen enough destruction already? If a conflict does break out, we will be remaining neutral in this matter though anxious over the fact that two of the participants would be next door neighbors to us.

[OOC: I'm not a real shining beacon of activity either. :( That being said...]

IC:

Our essential view on the American Treaty Organization is that is basically defunct, with those that began it to be in favor of dissolving the organization. The Federation is fully capable of protecting the interests of Cuba and providing it with stable governance. As we stated in our first address on the issue of Cuba, we would gladly allow for a plebiscite once order is achieved over the island of Cuba.

We are already in a position to provide Cuba with stable governance, and we are fully capable of protecting the interests of the Cuban people, as well as enforcing our sovereignty over the territorial area that Cuba divests.

"That being said, we will begin actively enforcing our quarantine zone around and over Cuba, as we officially recognize the sovereignty of Cuba to be in our hands. We once again reiterate that any non-allied aircraft and ships leave this fifteen nautical mile zone around Cuba."

Partially Classified

All around the airspace over Cuba, EC-130H Compass Call Electronic Warfare aircraft began actively jamming radars of all HAE aircraft. The EC-130H aircraft would be covered by the fighter combat air patrols overhead. AWACS aircraft also actively tracking targets inside the quarantine zone, and began directing fighter aircraft to shadow HAE aircraft from below. These aircraft, also equipped with their own AESA radars, working in cohesion with the low-frequency radars on the ground, would begin shadowing HAE aircraft in the quarantine zone. B-1R Missile Trucks from the 1st Bomber Group began receiving targeting information as they sat at long standoff range, waiting to unleash their deadly loads of long-range AIM-54 and R-37 standoff air-to-air missiles.

On the waves below, the arsenal ships Philip V and Louis XV both began deploying their LEO satellite-blinding lasers, using one-hundred watt lasers to disrupt imaging from any HAE imaging satellites that would be passing over the Gulf of Mexico. The CFS Persistent also began deploying its helicopters around the fleet to actively search out unfriendly submarines in the quarantine zone, and were equipped with anti-submarine torpedoes. A number of helicopters also deployed sonobuoys around the fleet of Cajun ships which were still steaming for Cuba. The helicopters would fly out in front, ensuring to engage any non-allied submarine vessels in the waters declared under the protection of the Cajun Federation.

RADIO NOVCORP, broadcast from the Serene Republic of Vaule:

"It is a sad day when a mighty Empire, indeed the largest one in the world in terms of land-mass as well economic and military power, backs down to a tiny nation based in the Louisianan bayou. Indeed, the Cajun crocodile had viciously torn the Cuban appendage out from the Holy American physical body and the bloodied HAE is sent back reeling from the wounds it had so brutally sustained from the unsavory creature.

Oh, well. At least wider war has been averted, to say the very least. North America can rejoice because it has been spared from the warfare that currently engulfs Europe and parts of Africa, and all because peace prevails once again! One conflict area down, another million to go. This is indeed a small step for mankind, even smaller step for diplomacy, a tiny step for humanity, and a giant step for force and brutality."

OOC: my, this is fun :awesome:

Official Statement from the Confederate Government

We are thankful that the crisis was resolved peacefully and thus avoided bloodshed over control of the island of Cuba. Indeed, we are especially happy since our nation is located directly next to the Cajun Federation and if the crisis came to open warfare, there would have been disastrous consequences for the region. Thus, it is good to see it all end peacefully, at least in the standards of the modern world.

The HAE unilaterally withdraws from Cuba.

*Classified*
All military assets were reallocated through the Caribbean pending a further reassignment.

"We are glad to see that the Holy American Empire realizes the extent of our commitment to the security of Cuba and its people, and thank them for their honorable withdrawal from this matter.

The Cajun Federation hereby recognizes the island of Cuba to be a part of its nation, and affirms its annexation into the Federation for the time being."

Classified

With the apparent Holy American Empire's withdrawal from an aggressive stance with the Cajun Federations' expeditionary force on Cuba, the Cajun Armed Forces High Command began slowly drawing down the number of aircraft involved with the Combat Air Patrol over Cuba. AWACS aircraft would maintain patrols over the island for the time being, as well as on-station P-3 Patrol aircraft and EC-130H Compass Call aircraft. The 2nd Fighter Group would relocate its mixture of F-22 and a single squadron of F-44 aircraft to Cuba proper, spreading its aircraft evenly between Havana's airport and those at Guantanamo.

At sea, the Cajun Federation Navy began drawing down its own contingent approaching Cuba, maintaining the Le Loutre carrier battlegroup northwest of the island. A large amount of aid vessels, ranging from bulk carriers and container ships to tankers also began sailing from Federation ports. Although the massive airlift and small shipments of aid had arrived in Havana without harassment, the land force commander, Pierre Le Preste, who had been also appointed as the Crown Military Governor of Cuba for the interim, had had to order rationing of some foodstuffs as well as fuel supplies. The large aid convoy would be the precursor to the beginning of a regular pattern of trade between the two states, and for the time being, the aid convoy and sea routes to Havana from the Federation ports would be flown cover by aircraft from the nearby carrier battlegroup.

On the ground, the 179th Airborne Brigade was ordered to be returned to the Federation mainland, as would the 16th Airborne Brigade, along with the 2nd Marine Brigade, while the 409th and 411th Military Police Regiments would remain on the island along with a company of Group 62 operators. A battalion from the stalwart 75th Ranger Brigade would be returned to the mainland, while another was retained on Cuba to supplement the aforementioned forces, as well as the balance of the 3rd Marine Brigade, which was offloading in Havana. The "Swamp Rats" of the 22nd Infantry Brigade, as well as the 'magicmakers' of the 25th "Voodoo" Infantry Brigade would also be permanently assigned to Cuba, under the new 'Cuban Special Military District'. The 141st Field Artillery would also be returned back to its native Louisiana, replaced by both the 14th and 15th Artillery Brigades.

Public

While the quarantine zone would remain in effect, a new limited sea corridor was opened into the port at Havana for non-allied vessels to continue trade, the sea zone would be monitored by patrol aircraft and helicopters as well as surface ships. The Cajun Federation would also open up the excellent sheltered harbor facilities of Guantanamo Bay to allied military and economic traffic, although the port facilities were, for the moment, limited in scope. A regiment from the Mississippi National Guard's 168th Engineer Brigade would be forward deployed to assist with the endeavor of improving the port, as civilian contractors both on Cuba and on the mainland were contacted about the possibility of a massive project to improve the excellent harbor.

Le Preste also began assigning Ministry of Foreign Affairs personnel to talk with local political officials with the annexation having become more or less official, as the Cajun Federation began transition towards a much more civil, rather then military role, on Cuba itself.
