Collapse of the Commonwealth

Recommended Posts

It had been quite some time since word had come out of the Commonwealth of Canada. But now, word had begun to reach the outside world of what was happening. Some weeks ago, soon after national elections, rouge elements within the Canadian military gained controll of, and launched a tactial ballistic misile, with a thermobaric warhead at the NDC building in St.John's during the swaring in ceremony. The explosion killed all the delegates and anyone in a position of authority and power. However the rouge military failed to gain control and maintain order throughout the nation, this lead to fighting between various community armed groups, an army still loyal to the constitution and the rouge military. The nation has collapsed and fallen into chaos and the Commonwealth of Canada is no more.

"The Holy Imperium of Ursalia supports the Republic of Texas's statement. Until the areas of the former Commonwealth of Canada comes under the protection of the Empire of Pravus Ingruo, as per the Harland Haiku, the aforementioned areas will be considered to be under our watch."

OOC: mind you, 'under our watch' means Ursalia will merely watch the areas with mild interest, and will take action only if a foreign powers tries to take over the lands :P

"We thank the American Trade Organization for its offer of assistance however I am pleased to inform they are not needed at the current moment. Greenlandic troops have already been airlifted to secure the major population centers on the Arctic islands and more men are arriving on the islands as we seek to prevent the anarchy that afflicts so many of the fallen nations on this planet.

The areas of Labrador, Newfoundland, and St. Pierre and Miquelon fall under the Harland Haiku and as such we have avoided sending aid to these areas. With noted regards to the previous Nova Scotia incident involving Pravus Ingruo and the Commonwealth of Canada, it seems unwise for us to send aid to these people even if Pravus Ingruo has current not taken action.

The Confederation of Arctic Nations has been notified of the collapse of one of our members and our actions to secure the lands north of Labrador as a protectorate. The CAN includes such nation in the ATO as the Holy Empire of Ursalia and Republique du Quebec and we encourage them to help in maintaining peacekeepers in the area. However we must protest Texas' current involvement in the situation. Sending troops will only raise tensions which is quite unnecessary given the current situation. If other American nations wish to assist I would encourage you to ask our Foreign Affairs department about what aid is most needed at the moment."

With respect to Greenland, our policy is quite clear. The land in question has already been claimed by the American Treaty Organization and your current invasion will be viewed as an act of war against Texas and the American Treaty Organization if the troops are not pulled out. Texas will be more than happy to help the C.A.N. plead their case as to why they should protect some of the ATO's current Canadian land, but only after Greenland's aggressive action ceases.

The Republic of Texas offers to host a meeting in Dallas between CAN and the ATO to resolve the Canadian territory. During this time, the Republic of Texas would request that all troops both CAN and ATO be pulled back to their nation's original borders so that a conflict may be resolved peacefully. Should both CAN and ATO agree to this, Texas will immediately pull back her forward troops.

"As a matter of fact the Texan claim to the land on behalf of the American Trade Organization was received at almost the same instant we sent our protectorate claim to the land on behalf of the Confederation of Arctic Nations. Greenland troops have secured the major population centers on Ellesmere Island and surrounding islands and will have been providing ground aid to these displaced peoples for hours or even days before Texan troops arrive.

Looking at the situation from our point of view, troops sent from Texas, thousands of kilometers away with no prior connection to the land, looks more like an aggressive action than Greenland helping a neighbor who is obviously in need. If Texas agrees to halt their movement of men, we shall do likewise, and we would be willing to attend a diplomatic summit between Greenland, Texas, the ATO, and the CAN to resolve this issue with as little conflict and unneeded tension as possible."

After receiving the diplomatic transmission from Texas, the following reply was sent:

"Greenland agrees to attend talks in Dallas for an amicable resolution the situation. We agree to turn back all troops currently in transit as long as the ATO that does the same."

"The Cajun Federation thanks Greenland for their acquiescence to partake in diplomatic talks over this matter. We are saddened to see the fall of the Commonwealth of Canada, and are ready to assist the citizens of that nation with humanitarian assistance if called upon. We would not be opposed to seeing the Confederation of Arctic Nations, as an organization, take over the policing responsibilities of the former lands of the Commonwealth of Canada, or at least some portions of the Commonwealth. The Confederation contains members who are also part of the ATO, and the Federation believes it would be an acceptable alternative in order to satisfy both sides.

That being said, we are leaving an open mind and would be happy to attend these talks and help negotiate a solution to this situation."

Dear Sir/Madame:

It is with deep regret that the Republic of Texas informs Greenland of its exit from the American Treaty Organization. As such, the Republic of Texas will be unable to hold a joint conference in Dallas. We apologize for our quick military response, but feel that said response was justified without prior diplomatic contact from Greenland. All Texan forces have been withdrawn back to Texas. It is my personal hope that in the future our two great nations can meet under better terms.

All the best,

Charles Fountaine,
A.T.O. representative,
Republic of Texas[/quote]
