When in Amsterdam

Arthur had been sat in one of the many cafes in Amsterdam when his phone began ringing. It was a phonecall he had been waiting several hours to recieve. Hvaing flown into the Netherlands Province of Germany the night before under utter secrecy to avoid any assassination attempts by the Koreans, he was now sat back with a cup of coffee, reading a newspaper enjoying some of the local produce in his smoking pipe and when his phone rang he fumbled for several seconds before puttung it to his ears.

"Hello, Arthur Speaking... yes yes dont worry I wont be late, im setting off now your Majesty, no I am not stoned, wait oh come on, fine yes I am stoned, but only a little bit" he slurred, at which point a black Mercedes pulled up to drive him to his meeting.
"Look im sorry your Highness I have to go, the cars here now, yes I will let you know how it goes, ok, bye" his last words rushed as he was ushered into the car.

It was only a few minutes in the car before they pulled up to the allocated meeting place between him and the new German Government. He was told to wait in an office on the top floor until his counterparts arrived, which he did quite easily did. He had enough time to sober up enough at any rate. The doors leading into the room opened, Arthur stood and greeted the new German leadership.

"Greetings Sir, a pleasure to meet you. Im Arthur Thwaites, Prime Minister of His Majesties Government of Great Britain."

But then Arthur found that he had been addressing the wrong person - just a man working for the catering, whom had been bringing some snacks. He looked at Arthur awkwardly and then offered him some tea. They figured that that was the English thing to do, after all.

About a second later, General Haas enters the room escorted by another, unnamed military man of high rank. He looks much more "stiff" than the previous Germanic Leadership, his face did not show the usual warmth, he simply looked as if he had emerged from some random trench to lead the nation. In a sense, this was entirely so. He actually addresses him in English, which is not very common in the country.

"Salutations Sir. We are in your debt for assisting to this meeting. I am to clear up any doubts that you should have regarding our new administration." He removes then his cap, hanging it from a pole specifically meant for such a purpose and sits down at a large, nearly thronelike armchair. The other military man coughs once, apparently having caught the remains of some unusual scent in the air.

"Thank you for the tea, now then it's a pleasure to meet you General, congratulations on your rise to a position of national leadership. My first enquiry is in regards to the previous administration. Are they being held anywhere or are they still missing? It was my understanding they would be permitted a life of Exile in Britain. My next few questions are much more pressing however." said Arthur as he took a sip of tea before continuing.

"General I'm sure you will be aware that the UK holds an alliance with Germany aswell as close cultural ties. His Majesty wishes to know how your new policies will affect our relationship and the foreign policy of Germany as a whole in Europe."

"The former government is being kept in a prison just on this very city, awaiting confirmation for their exile to your country. Our relations are not, as far as I am concerned, change in spite of the fact that our relations towards other countries have. We are looking to unify those nations similar to us and around us, however we feel that in spite of our Pangermanic Expansionism, bringing our swords to England would be betrayal, a dishonorable backstab, unacceptable. In fact, I do believe that with the belligerence of the Irish State towards us and their doctrine of eventual domination of your land, you ought to reconsider their independence."

He folds his arms. "They are the UK that both of us have fought against, coming back for round two. If we were not to protect England, you would see a sea of redheads on london - eventually."

"His Majesty believes in second chances but rest assured if the Irish abuse us this time we will revoke their Independance and Ireland will forever remain apart of the UK. As for the former Althing that is excellent news" said Arthur, taking another sip of tea.

"I am honoured you hold Britain in such high resolve and let me say we hold Germany in equally high resolve. Now then what are going to be your methods of unification General? Whilst we can fully support diplomatic methods, but militarily, we would still support your efforts, only we would be completely unable to interfere. His Majesty won't permit Britain to be involved in a European war when alot of our armed forces are away in Korea."

"Our methods will vary. Some areas, like Sweden, are viable for diplomacy, while in Austria we will have no choice but to use firearms in order to get things done. We prefer to deal with situations in a case-per-case basis. I do not feel that requesting your assistance in such a campaign would be reasonable, however we would like to receive assistance if third parties viewed such a war as a chance for opportunistic landgrabbing. Such a thing would be, in our eyes, different."

"Korea should not be a concern. The country is already sinking. As long as you do not make it your Vietnam, it will simply be a footnote in Britain's history of military victories."

"General I must make it clear to you that Britain cannot support aggressive wars of expansion in Europe, especially not when we are fighting a war in Korea that has the potential to be drawn out. Moreover, this Angevin dynasty in France thats trying to become Independant, they could cause problems for Britain in the future."

"The Irish have attacked without an obligation to do so, using this as a chance for petty landgains while trying to put on a fake hero mask. The Irish Front is no war of aggression, but rather a vulture that decided to feed from whom he thought dead but is merely asleep and will crush him. And if you are concerned about Western France, that is all the more reason to defend us. Western France will be backed by Rome and Athens, with Ireland it will find in you a common enemy, and if we are not by then in a strong position so as to defend you, then, they will overrun you. Some of our intelligence has even heard rumors that the Irish were sympathetic to a joint military effort of Germanic Union and Ireland prior to this whole mess."

"So do not think that you will be able to find long term safety by avoiding conflict. In fact, you will likely find the opposite. At that, we will still respect your decision. You probably have some ace up your sleeve we cannot see. The Koreans are the broken cog in your machinery anyhow."

"General I assure you that if the UK must intervene then we will be intervening on your behalf. We hold a treaty with you, not with Ireland. As for the Athenians and the Chinese that's Anyones guess. We are also allied to Athens and have been since our our struggle for Independance, it would be a folly to enter hostilities with them, no matter the reason. Western France will be the one to initiate hostilities and so will not have the backing of Athens so long as Britain doesn't overstep it's boundries and takes steps to conquer the region instead of removing it's Government.

If the British Army must be deployed then it will only be if Berlin is under threat of being over run General. If the Irish get across the Rhine or land a force on mainland Europe that is large enough to threaten the Capital then our own armies will march on Dublin. "

"General with all due respect, Iceland is not of a concern to the UK, Germany wont collapse if Iceland falls to the Irish, Germany will fall however, if Berlin falls. The UK will not allow Germany to fall General. You even said yourself, Iceland is a fortress, one of the most militarised in the world and without a doubt a meatgrinder for invading armies. Have faith in your forces General."
