A Nation No More

Halifax, Nova Scotia
1457 Hours

It was a bright and sunny day in Halifax, with barely any clouds in the northern Atlantic sky. However, on this seemingly beautiful day, trouble stirred. All across the nation, mass riots took place in cities and towns throughout the nation. From cities like Halifax to tiny fishing communities like Peggys Cove, people were rioting, looting, killing, and burning. It was beyond the military's control.

Then, the death blow struck. During a public speech held by the President in order to calm the people down in wake of the riots, a remote bomb that was planted on the stage used by the President and his cabinet was detonated, killing most of the Nova Scotian leadership including the President himself.

One man who survived, General Percival Smith, realized that Nova Scotia was beginning to collapse, with chaos throughout the country. So, he gave a public broadcast:

"People of Nova Scotia and the world as a whole, as of the past few days, my country has been torn asunder by massive riots. With the death of most of the nation's leaders, I have come to realize that it is impossible for us to control by ourselves only. Thus, I hereby announce that the Free State of Nova Scotia is dissolved. It has ceased to exist as a sovereign nation. I bid you all goodbye."

As he walked away from the camera, Smith wondered if he was doing the right thing...

The Republic of Texas protests Canada's aggressive maneuvers. Nova Scotia reverts back to the Empire of Pravus Ingruo's protection - should Canadian troops cross into Nova Scotia then Canada will find itself in a state of war with the Republic of Texas. Do not destroy the peace and stability of North America by laying claim to that which is not yours to lay claim to.

If the Empire of Pravus Ingruo, wishes to protest this move, than they can do so themselves. Nova Scotia was a Canadain nation and for the time being will remain as a canadian protectorate.

The Republic of Texas will reiterate, if your troops invade Nova Scotia then you will be at war with the Republic of Texas.

Private:

Texan submarines were given directions to proceed to Nova Soctia with haste. The armed forces were issued orders to prepare for a limited conflict at once.

"The Cajun Federation also protests the Commonwealth's blatant unilateral maneuvering, trying to lay claim to Nova Scotia. Not so long ago, we saw Canada's aggressive moves to land troops in Nova Scotia and tried to grab the territory while its' government was in shambles. The Cajun Federation has significant ties with the people of Nova Scotia through our Acadian cultural similarities, and we protest seeing this continually aggressive nation land on Nova Scotian shores and lay claim to a nation whose trust they have already betrayed once.

We ask that, like our neighbors in Texas, the Commonwealth hand over control to the Empire of Pravus Ingruo for safekeeping."

This is a North American issue - you are making aggressive moves to invade land that is being protected by another North American nation. The Republic of Texas will be monitoring the situation and if your troops invade Nova Scotian territory, be it by land, air or sea then they will be fired upon.

Classified:

A Texan CSG lead by the "Pumpernickel" would be readied and would deploy within twenty-four hours to the Nova Scotian theater.

The Republic of Cascadia urges both parties to stand down. Canada should in fact hold back their troops from taking actual control until the Empire can make their statements. The Republic of Texas should withhold plunging this continent into a needless war. If a neutral ground is needed for talks to alleviate the tension, we suggest Seattle.

With respect to Cascadia, the Republic of Texas will only be responding with force after force is used to invade a territory being protected by another North American nation. War can be avoided so long as Canada ceases its aggressive actions. Texas has no joy in having to issue orders of a military nature - we like all civilized nations aspire to live in peace with others, but when one party seeks to steal another's property and engulf innocents into conflict then force sometimes is the only solution. Naturally, Texas supports a diplomatic solution but if Canada invades Nova Scotia then I'm afraid force will have to be used.

Official Imperial Statement

One of the the two doctrines the Empire put in place over the years to try and help ensure North American stability was the Harland Haiku. Even though the man it is named after is dead and gone, and committed acts of a madman himself in the end, the words still stand as just and as strong today as they did the day they were written. The Haiku clearly states that of any nation given land by the Empire, should that nation fall into disorder and disarray, the land reverts back to an Imperial Protectorate automatically. The fact that the Commonwealth is also covered by the Harland Haiku and chooses to so blatantly disregard it is disturbing to say the least.

The second the Free State of Nova Scotia ceased to exist, the land was an Imperial protectorate. Therefore, the Commonwealth of Canada is invading an Imperial Protectorate. Attacks on the sovereignty of Imperial Protectorates are treated in the same manner as attacks on the sovereignty of the Empire proper: annihilation.

The Commonwealth of Canada will stand down, cease and desist their aggressive actions, and remove all troops, equipment, and materiel from the former Free State of Nova Scotia, now the Imperial Protectorate of Nova Scotia (IPNS). Failure to do so will be seen as an act of war, and will be treated as such.

Signed,

Denied.

***Classified Movements, Public Actions***

10,000 troops from the 4th Army and their equipment immediately began airlifting to Nova Scotia to maintain order, and restore it where need be. Most of the power would be handed off to the local municipalities and governments to maintain order and keep life going on a day to day basis. The troops were there in case anything flared up and to also hunt the terrorists responsible for killing the former nation's leaders.

The Empire of Pravus is practicing an unfair form of imperialism and oppression with this movement. They seek to invade and control the island, ignoring the people's opinions. Perhaps the people wish not to be ruled by the Empire? Yet this country which cares for nothing but it's own imperialistic needs is invading an island that should, traditionaly, belong to Canada, but because of a few words on a document they wrote, without the agreement of the entire continent, they believe they should own the entirety of the North America continent. And a product of this document is injustice and oppression. The Empire stands for nothing but land.

The United States of America finds this move evil and disgusting, and as such suggests the nations of the world to not recognize this illegal move, as we do today. The land is Canada's.

Even so, the Empire of Pravus Ingruo offers no choice towards the people of her former lands, and instead forces them under her control. These people are oppressed. Their forgotten, destroyed nation has gone through enough disaster, and now it must face a new threat: tyranny.

The people have chosen this republic. Tyranny has not risen its head here. Our government were fighters of the People's Revolution, fighters for the people, fighters with the people. We have nothing but justice in our recent history. What makes you think that there is tyranny here?

Then again, you are the ones who broadcasted your own childish giggling. Ignorance should best be ignored.

Official statement from the Foreign Ministry:

"We could not help but notice the questionable statement from an entity that bases itself off on a nation that had, indeed, practiced imperialism and oppression in its history, not only over the Americas but the world.

The Empire of Pravus Ingruo has been a stable, indeed stabilizing, force in North America. It is perfectly justified in enforcing the Harland Haiku as to promote stability in a continent that had seen conflict and instability in the past few decades.

With that, if the Empire of Pravus Ingruo was as unfair and oppressive as this entity claims, then why do nations like the Holy Empire of Ursalia, Republic of Texas, the Cajun Federation, Republic of Quebec, and Kingdom of Manitoba exist? It is because of the EPI's generosity as well benevolence that allowed for such to happen. For this entity to claim that the Empire of Pravus Ingruo "offers no choice towards the people of her former lands, and instead forces them under her control" would be illogical, for the EPI allows the peoples in its protectorate to become independent should they want it -- and this had indeed occurred more than once in the past.

Next time, we suggest this entity get their facts right before making such unfounded claims."

"The EPI allows those who please it become independent.

They still should not force Nova Scotia under their claim. It is unfair towards the people. Perhaps they do not wish to be independent, but also are against rule from Pravus Ingruo."

"The EPI does not "force Nova Scotia" under its "claims" as much as it is merely enforcing the Harland Haiku. Nova Scotia was an EPI protectorate before it became independent, and as such it reverts back to EPI protectorate when it collapses.

Is that so hard to comprehend?"

A PRA diplomat overseeing the exchange decided to add his point of view on the situation:

"Rather than limiting independence, it is more of a way to stabilize the region. From this state of protection and stabilization they can choose to become an independent entity, as long as they can field a strong leadership and be able to run itself as an independent nation."
