The United Federation of the East announces that it will abide by this doctrine. Military operations in this area shall be confined to those in support of allies from the region or if necessary supporting our friends whom are supporting friends from the region. We're big on friendship today.

The Kingdom of New Spain formally recognizes the Lafayette doctrine citing it's inherent strategic nature in protecting sea lanes adjacent to New Spain proper as being vital to her national interests. King Enrique Bourbon would further endorse this doctrine by pledging New Spain's support alongside her friends in enforcing this doctrine against Non-Continental and would-be destabilizing interlopers that would threaten this body of water.

"We thank the Dixie Confederacy, and the Kingdom of Cochin, whom we have never had any real diplomatic connections with, pledge to uphold this doctrine in good faith."

The skyline of Dallas, Texas, which welcomed the Cajun military with open arms upon its arrival.

Baton Rouge, LA - Despite an insurrection that has raged for a month and a half, the delegation of the Texas legislative body that will represent its state in the Cajun National Congress, signed the declaration of statehood yesterday, pledging the oath as the fifth sovereign state of the Cajun Federation. The Republic of Texas was once a regional competitor with the Cajun Federation, and the Federation butted heads with its western neighbors on a number of occasions. Despite this stormy relationship, the Lady Protector, along with an approval from Congressional leaders and the Council of Ministers, decided to still annex the state into the Federation without hesitation, following the collapse of its' central government.

Most Texans accepted the new Cajun incursion with open arms, or at least indecision over how their state might be treated, most were surprised at the polite measures taken by Cajun forces to try to make the operation, known now as "Blazing Saddles", as civilian-friendly as possible. Cajun forces were only allowed to operate during the day, and were required to work alongside National Guard Military police detachments, as well as civilian law-enforcement officers. Efforts were made, while during the operation, to have the soldiers mingle with residents wearing as little offensive military gear as possible. Troops were encouraged to buy food or beverages from local establishments, and discipline was to be kept on the highest order. Only three incidents of disciplinary infraction were recorded during the entire operation, owing to the extreme measures taken to ensure that the Cajun soldiers kept themselves under control.

The real test of the Cajun Federation has come from the south Texas city of Corpus Christi, where an effort was made by local militia, as well as militia from across Texas, to make a stand. Violence broke out the first day of an amphibious landing, and sporadic fighting continues throughout the city as guerrilla forces are hunted down. Cajun forces were limited in their firepower by their concern for civilian casualties, which has drew some criticism from some corners of the military, who note that the militia forces fought using any means necessary to attack Cajun forces of the 2nd Marine Brigade. Only the surrounding of Corpus Christi by forces driving from Houston, finally cut any hope of further aid and manpower, and has reduced the fight to day-to-day skirmishes in the increasing pile of rubble that Corpus Christi has become. Cajun leaders, including Michelle Broussard-Doiron, have pledged to help rebuild Corpus Christi once the fighting has ceased.

The State Capitol building of Texas, in Austin, was re-opened two weeks ago, after a security scare arose fears that it would be targeted by Texan Nationalist Militia.

Texas political leaders, all the way up to interim governor Owen Huber, have called for an end to further violence, that will only result in further unneeded bloodshed. Huber has pledged to work with the Cajun Federation to integrate the State of Texas into the Federation as "quickly as possible". The Cajun Federation has said it will consider making a legislative package which could see some freedoms for the state of Texas, that other states in the Federation do not share. Such a package would be offering a branch of peace to the Texan Nationalists, who have staunchly opposed any connection with the Federation, and have denounced even getting some sovereign freedoms, as a "buyoff".

"The Federation has never been a friendly neighbor to us, why should we even be friendly citizens of theirs?" noted one anonymous Texan Nationalist, who burned an effigy of the Cajun Federation's national flag in Dallas.

"They're here to stay, and they're here to help, or so they say, I don't entirely trust the bayou people [Cajuns], but they've been nice since they got here," remarked a regular citizen on the streets of Austin. Her commentary drew a few nods from her group of friends, who appear to agree with her.

"The Cajun Federation will do everything in its power to make this transition to being a part of the Federation as comfortable as possible for the people of Texas, we have done so before in Cuba, and we can do so here. Our track record is unblemished," noted Terrence Glenburn, talking to reporters after leaving a closed-door lunch/meeting with interim legislative leaders from the Texan delegation.

Sanderson Hills Test Range Opens with a Boom

Del Rio, TX - The Cajun Armed Forces and Interior Ministry, in a joint press conference yesterday, announced the creation of the Sanderson Hills Weapons Testing Range. The Sanderson Hills, south of International Route 10 (IR10), was determined to be one of the best locations for such a test range, given their remote nature, and sparse population in the area. At the end of the press conference, a surprise nuclear test of one of the newest nuclear warheads in the Cajun Armed Forces, the F-97 Thermonuclear Warhead, was announced. Approximately fifteen minutes following the announce of the opening of the Sanderson Hills Range, Central Texas was shook by what many believed to be an earthquake, until the government announced the successful testing of a 5.9 Megaton-yield device, known as THUNDER.

The device caused seismometers to detect a Richter event along the lines of a Magnitude-7 earthquake in the South-Central Texas Region, reported the Cajun Federation Geologic Services. The Cajun Federation Air Force, which oversees the employment and testing of all nuclear weapons, reported that no radioactive leakage was reported from the test vault, and declared the test a success. Anti-nuclear weapon protesters were quick to make a small, but vehement show of rage in Jackson Square, in New Orleans, accusing the Federation that an underground test could easily seep radiation into groundwater and aquifers. The Air Force, along with Little Rock Laboratories, the center of the Cajun Federations' nuclear weapons research and development, replied to protests by noting that, with photographic evidence, significant efforts were made to ensure that aquifers were not detected in the area. Little Rock Laboratories also noted that a significant portion of the blast yield - as much as ninety percent, came from the act of fusion, which made the explosion a "very clean" nuclear test, in terms of radioactivity.

"The nuclear test was probably one of the cleanest in history, we managed to ensure that most of the yield came from the fusion reaction. If you can call any test of a nuclear weapon 'safe', you could put this one high on the list," noted George Pryor, a nuclear physicist with Little Rock Laboratories.

Seismometers across the region reported a spike in activity, as high as Magnitude-7 on the Richter scale, after the test.

A spokesman for the Lady Protector's office noted that she was "pleased" that the test went forward without incident, and that the environmental after-effects of the nuclear test were limited. The spokesman conceded that critics may be correct in the idea that this warhead may not be tactically feasible in times of war, and that smaller-yield weapons are much more efficient in strategic nuclear warfare. That being said, the spokesman also noted that the Lady Protector defended the test, and that she felt that testing such nuclear weapons, that are much larger then usual nuclear weapons currently in the possession of the Federation, are a means of understanding the design of nuclear weapons, and a way of making such weapons more efficiently. The Council of Ministers also backed the Lady Protector's statement, believing that nuclear weapons development has been limited in the Cajun Federation, and testing weapons is only a logical part of the process of making weaponry much more efficient.
"We congratulate our friends in the Cajun Federation on the development of this new thermonuclear device. We believe bigger is always inherently better when it comes to nuclear technology and to reflect that we've set a standard of applauding the development of all thermonuclear devices larger then 1 MT. While shunning any below that mark as evident by our disapproval of the recent testings in other regional powers. Ignoring that facet of this announcement we are glad to hear that the radioactivity of this test was contained and kept to a minimum so as to not risk contamination of the region."
Cajun Naval Forces participate in International Naval Exercises

The destroyer, CFS Z. York, moored at Joint Services Base, Guantanamo Bay.

Guantanamo Bay, CUBA - With the instability of the Holy American Empire becoming ever more apparent to the south, as well as a new nuclear-armed nation on the continent on the mind to the west, the Cajun Armed Forces announced its participation in international naval exercises yesterday evening. Although the location and participants of these exercises do remain classified, sources note that these are the largest exercises ever committed to by the Cajun Federation's navy. It is easy to see why; most of the Cajun Federation's fleet is at sea, with little inkling to where they are operating. Ships have been seen around the coast of Cuba, with notably increased traffic at Joint Services Base, Guantanamo Bay.

"With tensions across the globe at an all time high, it is in our best interest that we participate with other nations, to ensure coordination and cooperation, should we be called to war together," said Vice Admiral Hiram Steindecker, in charge of the Naval Operations Command (NOC). Steindecker was at the joint press conference last night, before flying out to take charge of the Naval Task Force that has been assembled for the exercises.

"The Cajun Air Force looks forward to these exercises, which are expected to include our own aircraft, and we look forward to increasing our coordination between the fleet and the flyboys, as well as interoperability between our aircraft, and the aircraft of other nations," noted Air Force Major General Gerard Turner, in charge of the Federation's Expeditionary Air Command (EAC). "The chance to be able to train with, and against the aircraft of other nations not only promotes cooperation, it also hones our skills in mock aerial combat."

Ships from two carrier battle groups ply the waters between Cuba and the Mississippi Delta a few days before the exercises were announced, in a released photo.

As part of the exercises, the Armed Forces noted that amphibious exercises could be part of the schedule of events during the exercises. Simulated ship-to-ship surface combat, as well as carrier warfare were also points of interest to these international exercises. The Navy's experience in warfare has been, for the moment, relatively untried, relegated to mostly support roles during the Texas Stabilization, as well as Operation ORTSAC II. Naval leaders have expressed that they are confident that despite these relatively limited experiences, the navy is well equipped and perfectly capable of defending the maritime interests of the Cajun Federation, and that these exercises will only serve to add to these experiences.

"While the Navy has yet to see full-scale war, we feel that its limited experiences thus far have given us results to grade our naval personnel upon. The sailors that we employ are a professional group of mariners, and well disciplined under stress, nothing suggests that their demeanor would be any different under real stress of combat," noted Steindecker, as the question and answer period was finishing.
"By the decision of the Cajun National Congress, the Cajun Federation hereby annexes and grants statehood to the Federal Territory of Missouri, after careful consideration. The State of Missouri will officially become the sixth state of the Cajun Federation. The Territory of Missouri was gained by the Federation after the dissolution of the central government of the Federation of Columbia, and it has been a stable region for some time under Federation control.

By the granting of statehood to Missouri, the Cajun National Congress grants legislative authority over the State of Missouri to its inhabitants, who must now elect a state government. The current shared civil-military authority shall be dissolved, and it will be up to the people of Missouri to vote for their legislative and governing bodies. By extension, the new government of Missouri, once formed, is required by legal precedent to also officially form its state judicial branch, by nomination from the governor, and selection by the legislature. On granting of statehood, the State of Missouri is also required by law to form its national guard component, for the defense of its people, as well as be an aid to the civil authority in times of disaster and strife.

Martial law, enforced since the Federation's stabilization campaign began, will effectively end at 1159 HOURS local time tonight, and the Missouri State Police is to take the lead in all facets of investigation, enforcement, and prosecution of state and national law."
