For Empire / Ave Sverige!

Recommended Posts

It had been ages since the nationalistic fervor of the Swedish people had been put through the ultimate test: the realization of an imperialistic dream. However, the chance had arisen in the last few months, and the Queen was apt to take advantage of the possibility before it disappeared forevermore. To it's east, dormant, sleeping Finland lie. For months, the Finnish state had not communicated with the outside, not since it's announcement of existance. Scandinavism and it's relevant surge had been sweeping the nation since the return of portions of Norway to the Kingdom. The Queen, acting as the consul and ruler of the people took the only course of action she viewed logical at this point and time: the time to expand the Swedish state, and incorporate it's cultural brothers was now. Taking advantage of the situation, the Swedish Provisional Government convenened with Her Majesty in a private chamber in Stockholm Palace. Much to the Queen's suprise, minimal rejection existed within her group of trusted representatives, and the majority ruled in favor of the plan. It was time for war.

Off the Eastern Coast of Sweden
5th of May, 2200 Hours

Kapiten Johann Värsund was in charge of the 1. Flotten, the first official fleet organized in the Kingdom's young history. His vessel served as the flagship, the HMS Svealand, the air carrier which served as the pride and joy of the Swedish Navy. Accompanied by 9 corvettes, 8 battleships, and 4 destroyers along with several LSTs. The HMS Svealand rested in the Baltic Sea with it's sister ship by it's side: HMS Ny Sverige. The two ships waited in the Baltic for further orders from Naval command, yet the crew on all ships at hand were eager to join the fight. After several minutes of waiting after arriving at the designated location, Värsund contacted the Fleet Headquarters in Götland and received word of the impending: all hands on deck, forward action imminent at 2300 hours. Immediate action expected at 2230 hours . Flying past the fleet was half of the Swedish airforce, an imposing 500 fighter escorts and their escorted 910 bombers flew ahead and broke into smaller formations headed for different targets. Off the Finnish coast, several cruisers moved into position alongside the planes that were heading out. It was only a matter of time now...

Various cities in Finland
5th of May, 2230 Hours

With things now about to get officially underway, preliminiary attacks were green-lighted. The bombers and fighters flew over Finnish airspace and bombared the major Finnish cities of Kotka, Vaasa, Oulu, Turku, Espoo, Helsinki, and Tampere. Smaller formations of Aircraft attacked naval fortifications at Upinniemi, Pansio, and Dragsvik. Airfields that were on-route or existed in the major cities would be part of the routine bombing runs, along with port facilties (in the seaside targets) and industrial components that could assist/fund a war effort. The 7 cruisers, guarded by a few destroyers (3) and frigates along with hidden submarines, would attack important coastal ports with missiles. This was the signal for the main invasionary force based under the command of the 1. Flotten to begin moving on the Finnish coastline. The LSTs would begin their approach towards the regions of Uusimaa and Finland Proper, which were to be beach-heads for the forthcoming operation. The forces, numbering around 500,000 troops (spread out along the planned invasionary ground), along with 2,000 tanks would take major cities, and routes of travel in these regions before moving further in the country in preparation for occupation and integration into the Swedish Kingdom. As the LSTs hit the beaches moments later, the Queen sat back at the Palace and only hoped one thing: "God rest their brave souls."

The Free City State of Torun hereby declares war on the nation of Finland in support of its ally in Sweden.
450,000 troops in spread out flotillas of troop transports along with their assorted vehicles, equipment and other gear have been loaded onto the ships of the Torunian Navy. They would be guarded by the 40 Skjold class Patrol/Support Craft. The ships would make way from the Port-City of Sokol off the coast of the Germanic Union towards the coast of Finland where they would disembark their troops and the men would prepare to attack. To ensure the defense of the flotilla and of the troops, the entirety of the Torunian Airforce has been mobilized and all fighters have been issued orders to guard the flotilla while bombers have been ordered to drop their loads on strategic targets in Finland.

Germanic Union appears to be surprised. It takes a longer time to react than what one would expect. Still, soon enough the orders come...but not before around 50k Vikings under Herr Durr van Derp's command managed to reach the Baltic. There were 50k more on their way, but then Germanic Union moves their Skjold Boats to block the baltic gates. Germanic Union's airspace and waters had been officially locked down.

At the same time, 60k of Germanian troops requested permission to move into Slavorussia. Although Germanic Union could not possibly attack Sweden nor Torun, it would indeed protect Slavorussia. "We have been directed by our General Staff to place our troops where Fennoscandia meets Russia proper. We cannot engage the invaders of Finland, but, we can serve as a human shield to literally block the path into Russia at least..."

Germanic Union enters high readiness mode, planes go airborne and ships will not stop moving save for the blockaders. The Divisions mobilize all over the country, standing by in case that the war might spill to Germania or in case that the defenders of Russia may be struck.

Later, Jan de Keizer announces,

"The nation is locked, noone may trespass. We will not defend Finland, but if Russia itself were to be invaded, we would not be able to hold onto our neutrality. We have blocked the Baltic in order to prevent further Viking Raid Parties from seeking out Finland."

The Vikings contacted the Swedish fleet, and let them know they're coming to their assistance. "This one we'll do for free!" - they say.

OOC: I forgot something important...

IC: The Germanic Union humanitarian mission turns head over heels and tries to reach Russia immediately, and then Livonia as a means of reaching the Fatherland proper. Still, there'd be casualties...

It had been a quiet evening for the soldiers who were stationed in Finland. Many were given the night off to visit the sights and socialize with Finland’s native people. The soldiers had become well acquainted with many of the local people due to the massive humanitarian effort to rebuild Helsinki and the three permanent Slavorussian bases that provided jobs for thousands of local Finns. Finland was their home away from home, but that was being threatened.

“Sir, I‘ve got something on the radar and it‘s coming in fast. It‘s not matching up with tonight’s flight schedule.” said the technician to his commanding officer.

“Try contacting them, they might have flown off course.”

As more blips began showing up on the radar it was obvious to them that this wasn‘t a mistake, it was a calculated plot by a yet unknown perpetrator. “I’ll authorize anti-aircraft to open fire. Get me a secure line to Moscow and Helsinki.“

In minutes the alarms were blaring. They could be heard all across southern Finland as fighter jets scrambled to defend the skies while soldiers scrambled to get back to base to receive their orders. Some unfortunate soldiers were injured, maimed, or killed by Swedish attack on their way back to base. Their deaths and the deaths of friendly locals couldn’t be avoided, but they could be avenged.

With so many Swedish planes flying over southern Finland S-500 anti aircraft missile launchers could fire anywhere and there would have been a high probability that they would hit something hostile. However orders from Moscow were for all forces to stand down until the Swedish government could be contacted.
Classified dispatch from Moscow to the Swedish government

To whom it may concern,
I have been informed by the commanding officer of the Slavorussian Humanitarian Forces in Finland that Swedish and another, currently unidentified, force have entered Finnish territory. Sweden has been a peaceful and cooperative neighbor so I am approaching this with the firm belief that it is some kind of mistake. However this is an egregious insult to both our ally Finland and for us in Slavorussia as well, so I must ask that you call off these attacks. The terms of the Russo-Finland allaince are clear and if it turns out that there is no mistake then we regretablly will have no choice but to recognize your declaration of war against the Slavorussian Empire as well.

Signed,
Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister.

To the Slavorussian government,

Consider the attacks against the Finnish state to not be jokes in an any manner, or shape. If the situation is as you direct it to be, then consider your nation in a existing state of war with the Kingdom of Sweden. The fact that Finland is already at war with us should need no explaining.

Outskirts of Helsinki

-------

The first strategic directive that had been ordered for capture by the Armén was Helsinki. Espoo was prepared as a secondary directive pending the completion of the primary. The Livgardet, a force that was typically known as ceremonial in the country, was the main force behind the impending battle for the capital of Finland. Due to the lack of complete organization, the regiments and divisions that comprised the Swedish Army were consistent on large groups of forces divided into smaller sections underneath. The rush by the Queen made further reorganization into a larger standing force impossible, and some of the men enlisted in the Livgardet had only trained for a few weeks after being conscripted suddenly. The majority of the other groups in Uusimaa and Tavastia Proper were smaller than the Livgardet and were comprised of professional troops rather than conscripts. The hasty mobilization had made such efforts among the tradtional Livgardet, impossible. As the night set in further and threatened to hit daybreak, the troops would hastily make their way to the outskirts of the city. Judging by the smoke in the distance, the city had been bombed lightly but not as thoroughly as the military's top brass would have hoped. Reports had come in of a couple of the aircraft involved in the preliminary bombing to have been struck down and resting in flames now.

As the Livgardet moved on the town, they didn't know what to expect other than a degree of opposition. Reports weren't perfect, after all.

-------

Finland Proper, somewhere south of Turku

------

The I. Armén and I. and II. Pansartrupperna made their way towards what maps indicated to be the city of Turku. Turku was the largest city in the region of Finland Proper, a region which contained a small Swedish community alongside the obvious Finnish majority. The forces that gathered to assault this city were doing such for the purposes of more than conquering, but for liberation of their cultural brethren that resided in the area. Although a minority, thoughts about how they would feel about the arrival of Swedish troops was typically high and more on the optimistic side. The Strv 122/A's of the Pansartrupperna's would move up first, supported by the regular troops and the small portion of conscripts that existed among them. When they came near the town, the first thing they faced was the resistance they expected. Many troops took cover, although around 3 were wounded from the initial shots fired by troops that couldn't be determined whether they were Finnish or Slavorussian. The tanks in front of the infantry were used as improvised cover, while many found their way behind rocks and forestry in the surrounding area. A fierce salvo by the 350 tanks, mainly by the 10 or 12 up front was fired in the vicinity, hoping to gain some kind of kill.

-----

The Baltic Sea

-----

The 1. Flotten, which was in charge of operations from here on out was a little suprised to be contacted by these 'Vikings'. Although the Kapiten was reluctant at first, he eventually opened up communications with them after persuasion by his junior officers on the HMS Svealand. The Vikings would receive the following in return. 'We appreciate the assistance being offered by your men, and yourself, during our first real military operation. As such, consider your assistance accepted. I will not take charge of your troops, nor your actions, and as such you may fight where you view neccessary to assist our forces.'

Enough Assault Rifles, ammo, machineguns and grenades to field several armies and five hundred of the very compact Nebelwerfers, along with of course plenty of rockets. There's even ten Germanic Union MBTs thrown along the mix. There's a letter, as it heads towards St. Petersburg,

The letter simply read, "Russians don't surrender! Call us if you need some more. This batch is on us."

Satellites were working around the clock to figure out what the hell was happening in the Baltic regions. That was when Whitecall got a message from Andreew at Zurich. The Swedish had invaded Finland, protectorate of Slavorussia. The inter twining webs of alliances, gentlemans aggreements and so forth placed the UK in a difficult position.

Garrisons on Svalbard and Franz Josef Land were placed on a heightened state of alert and were made ready to conduct air strikes against invading Swedish forces should the green light be given.

The King and the Prime Minister were in Slavorussia.

The Torunians under Aironth Wojtyla or "Flamebringer" as his nickname amongst his men was gave the order to go ashore once his ships were in range of the Finnish coast. The Grand Army of Torun split into two wings of 225,000 men which were then split into eight divisions named Warsaw, Lancers, Jaigellion, Krakow, Danzig, Grom, The Warriors of St. Stanislaus, and lastly the Dąbrowski Division each fully armed with all of their equipment and began to slog towards the provinces of Kymenlaakso and Uusimaa. The goal would be to liberate those two regions then move up the coast into South Karelia and Southern Savonia. Bombing runs would be continued by the Torun Forward Air Command comprised of the 301st Air Superiority Combat Group of 360 F-22A Fighters as well as the Torun Forward Tactical Support Command consisting of the 302nd Air Tactical Group of 130 F-35 A's and 50 F/B-22's bombers. The goal here would be to provide cover for the invading wings of the Grand Army and also pummel the land and air defenses of Finland.

Prime Minister Medvedev gave a speech to the nation following the outbreak of formal hostilities between Slavorussia and Finland’s attackers.

“Tonight I address the people of Finland, the citizens of Slavorussia and the compassionate people of the entire world,

In this decisive hour Slavorussia has been called upon by an ally to defend it from the forces in this world that would do it harm. The defense of Finland has been entrusted to us by its great people. They have placed all their faith and confidence in us, therefore we cannot afford to fail.

Through the Zurich pact we have tried to find a peaceful solution with those who are now our enemies, but all has failed. The enemy is intent on waging war against the people of Finland and thereby the great people of the Slavorussian Empire.

Our task is a hard one; to preserve the civilized order of this neighborhood of the world. Let us brace ourselves for the difficult task ahead. I know as you all know in your hearts, that through the goodness of our works, the glory of our workers and the might of our military, we shall be victorious.”
Private to Germany
Thank you for the supplies. They will be put to good use in Helsinki and Turku.
The soldiers had created a line of defense around southern Finland from the Gulf of Bothnia to the Slavorussian border and they had thrown up hasty defensive barriers around major cities to protect them. The enemy had decided to attack the two points where Slavorussian presence was strongest. Turku and the greater Helsinki area. These battles could likely decide the outcome of the war..

At the time of the invasion there were fewer than 50,000 soldiers in the entire country, to distribute humanitarian supplies and to train the Finnish military. They were greatly outnumbered, but thousands of soldiers and equipment could be shipped into Finland quickly. Indeed, many soldiers were being prepared to go to Finland as soon as possible.

The General Staff planned to take out the rest of the enemy’s invasion force in the Baltic Sea before it could even reach land. To do this the air force launched 4 squadrons of Su-34 strike fighters each armed with at least 8 Kh-55 high explosive, long range anti-ship missiles and 4 air-to-air missiles.

The aircraft could launch the KH-55 missiles before even leaving Slavorussian airspace and still hit any enemy ship between St. Petersburg and the North Atlantic Ocean, and they did. The pilots fired their first salvo of missiles then the second and so on until all their surface attack missiles were depleted. In total they would have launched over 384 missiles at transport ships as well as the HMS Svealand, the HMS Ny Sverige and the rest of the Swedish fleet not docked in Swedish ports. Even if only half the missiles successfully reached their targets the advantage would begin to shift away from the enemy as their line of retreat and supply would be compromised.

After successfully completing their attack mission the Su-34s changed course to join up with two squadrons of Tu-160 bombers. Flying toward shores of Finland from bases in Murmansk the bombers released their missile payload from their internal rotary bays to rain destruction on the enemy as they stepped on Finnish land.

However when all was said and done the enemy still had at least a thousand planes flying over south Finland. S-500 anti-aircraft missiles in various places had their pick of any aircraft they wanted. The focused first on immediate threats to the air defense network then on enemy attack squadrons and finally on superiority fighters and reconnaissance aircraft.

Battle of Helsinki
The Slavorussian bases in Porvoo and Salo were ideally located to launch attacks against the invading armies. Additionally the Salo airbase could put at least two squadrons of Su-35s fighters in the air to maintain air superiority long enough for reinforcements to arrive from inland Slavorussia.

Much of the rubble and radioactive waste in Helsinki proper had been cleared away and new construction was underway. However movement of vehicles throughout the city would be difficult because the few buildings that had been rebuild had been destroyed by earlier air strikes. This was a clear advantage for the Russian soldiers who thrived on fighting in close quarters and utilized the environment to work for them. When it came to fighting in the greater Helsinki area, where destruction wasn’t so great the Slavorussian army divided into small strike units. Each unit had at least one classic RPG-7. More advanced units were equipped with the more advanced RPG-32 which could fire thermobaric grenades at unsuspecting foot soldiers.

Battle of Turku
Small groups of soldiers were still scrambling to get back to base, but most were already placing defenses around the Lieto base and in as many places around Turku as they could without being in the enemy line of fire. With the limited time they have the army divided and secured the rivers that crossed the Aura river as well as Port Arthur. The port would provide a potential supply route after the enemy forces in the Baltic were moved away or destroyed.

From the Salo base the army deployed its mobile artillery to bombard the Swedish army from behind and hopefully catch it off guard. Although few in number the massive, soviet era 2S7 Pion could bombard the enemy from distant, hidden locations.

As the enemy entered the city mortar and artillery rounds could be heard impacting with the ground. It would be a painful experience for any poor enemy soldier that couldn’t get out of the way. Slavorussians used their thermobaric grenades kill the enemy or flush him out of cover to be mow them down in the streets. At the same time small rpg armed units were ordered to stealthily to locate enemy armor and destroy them.

ooc: Sorry for making you wait. It always takes me a long time to type. MO I'm not exactly sure where your forces are, so I just used my bombers to bomb the hell out of everything.

Across Germanic Union, widespread demonstrations sprung, in which the nation's mixed feelings became very apparent.

On the one hand, many were supporting Finland and Slavorussia and opposing the war, at the very same time and sometimes even the same people supported Sweden's campaign to liberate the Swedish-Speaking Community of Finland.

"The Swedes of Finland have long been oppressed by their non-Germanic neighbors. It is time for them to return to the Swedish Fold. These people are forgotten and thrown under the Finnish Blanket, like Aaland once had been. At the same time Ny Sverige would be very irresponsible to let this end up as a massacre of our Good Neighbors (Russia)"

--------------------

Dierik Martens stood by the Slavorussian border with his divisions, arms folded and waiting for Slavorussia to call them in if the conflict should spill into the border. At the same time, over in Danzig, Martens the Elder read the news and narrowed his eyes. "Finland muss Sterben" (Finland must die) - even the Martens Family was divided upon this subject.

In the distance, the Vikings prowled around Finland already, as they once had done. They choose to land near Helsinki, figuring that if they were able to seize the city, or rather, the rubble, the rest of the territory may soon fall. They move fast and are to follow into Helsinki proper while their random assortment of vehicles is supposed to clean the area around it - they excelled in urban combat, and so wished to get involved with this as soon as possible. Their one Fighter Squadron was above, and it would soon be forced to engage the two Slavorussian squadrons.

Out in the Baltic Sea, a good number of missiles now rained from the sky like arrows. 3 destroyers, and 2 corvettes would suffer hits by which they would be too damaged to carry on and thus were scuttled. The HMS Svealand took a critical hit to the bow that would leave her immobile but still functioning. The crews on-board the ships snarled, and could only see this as a neccessity to keep the fleet mobile. The Captains of the vessels at hand would likely be able to figure out that lesson and well, and apply it as quickly as they could. Anti-aircraft batteries across Finland would also pick off an aircraft or two every couple of hours, although the majority of them would fly in for landings in Götland and other coastal cities that had serviceable airfields or even airports. The HMS Sveland and the HMS Ny Sverige, acting as the flagships of the operation, began to launch fighters off their decks to counter any incoming missiles that would be coming in the near future. Although the ship's AA systems had done the trick in fending off a few of them this time, they didn't want to be too careful in the future.

Battle of Helsinki

As the battle got underway, the Livgardet divided itself into increasingly smaller segments that could act as independent fire-teams if neccessary. Moving through fire, several soldiers would find themselves gunned down by the Slavorussian defenders. Another insurmountable lives would be lost to the fire of RPGs as the troops moved up towards the city streets. Although the troops found the fighting to be ferocious, they slowly inched up house by house as they could. Although they were less experienced than their Slavorussian counterparts, they still outnumbered them by a significant margin. The three armored corps accompanying the Livgardet would move up alongside the troops, some of their tanks taking RPG fire themselves and having their numbers somewhat lessened. Although the casualty count was beginning to go up, the soldiers in the field knew they couldn't give up yet. Many things counted on a victory in this country, and the capture of major cities was first priority. ARCHER artillery pieces would be deployed from a distance behind the advancing forces, spread out to minimize potential losses from bombs and other explosive projectiles. The fire-teams that were gradually inching into the city would relay coordinates as they went to the operators of the artillery pieces, hoping they would hit their mark and take care of enemy fire that had pinned them down.

Battle of Turku

Artillery that rained down shortly into the battle would also begin to do a number, but the Armén had it's own resource to counter the shells that rained down on their own troops: ARCHER. About 100 of these units moved in from behind, keeping a distance and spreading out to minimize potential losses against oncoming fire. The artillery pieces directed their shots to wherever the fire-teams notified them fire was coming from, and they could only hope they would hit their mark. As soldiers advanced, casualties steadily mounted among the large force that had begun to slowly creep up. The defensive positions that some of the soldiers took in the beginning of the fight now became pointless, as it became a Blitzkrieg effect to escape the raining artillery shells that had begun to bombard both the armored tanks, and the soldiers that used them as cover or advanced alongside them. The shots that rang off from the Swedish AK 5's would be distinct, and would hopefully pick off the Slavorussian troops from the distance as they approached.

Casualties in Helsinki: 774
Casualties in Turku: 2,940

Three Squadrons of Torunian planes would go to support the Viking Airforce attack in Helsinki. They would seek to rip the Slavorussian Airforce planes to pieces with their payloads of air to air and air to ground missiles. The ground forces of the Grand Army took slight casualties as they landed, some 2500 men being cut down due to the fire from the sky and from gunfire on the ground. Yet, the men of the Grand Army pushed back the enemy towards the capital regions of Imatra
and Lappeenranta of the province of South Karelia. They would seek to control the region through sheer force and willpower alone. Spreading out actual troop numbers Aironth ordered all the Tiger UHT Attack Helicopters, Leapard 4A6 Tanks, Puma IFVs, Sysfla SPAAG Vehicles MLRS systems and 155mm SPA's would roar to life and pound the enemy forces, scattered that they are and pummel them into the ground.

OOC: After speaking to EvR and MO on IRC, as well as Justinian, I'll be RPing an insurgency against Swedish/Torun/German soldiers. They're not meant to be a trained military force, rather just a militia that rose up due to Finnish army incompetence. If I interpreted MO/EvR's statements wrong, then this never happened.
IC:

"Finland! For too long have our people been oppressed, our people having their home invaded by the larger powers who take what they please! The Winter War is a perfect example of this, when Soviet imperialists invaded us without provocation. Again, history repeats itself, but instead of the Soviets, we find the Swedish at our doorstep, and even Torun soldiers, seeking "lebensraum", when the Germans are but too eager to provide for them." Anja Toivonen looked outside, her hometown of Turku a mess of Slavorussian, Swedish and Torun soldiers and machines battling in the streets. "I say no longer! People of Finland, hear my voice. Together, we will rise up against the Imperialists and say NO! Our government is barely a government, the army acting on orders to sit and twiddle their thumbs as the Swedish and Toruns rip out our very hearts and souls!" Anja's small Hanseatic-era radio carried her message into the hearts, homes and minds of Finnish peoples in Turku. They grabbed rifles, relics from the Hansa, modern weapons from Marihiemm Arms and even resorted to looting dead soldiers on all sides.

Her men numbered only to 100, but it was enough. Old bolt-actions, battle-tested assault rifles and machine guns looted from killed Slavorussians, along with enough homemade hand grenades and Molotovs to arm themselves twice over. Anja was their general, they were her men and women. They camouflaged themselves to blend with the Finnish forests and snows, a mixture of whites, grays and forest greens, they were a band of misfits, some ex-military, some not, but they were all militiamen, soldiers for as long as this lasted. They had assembled away from the battles, away from the death. Their gear consisted of civilian hunting gear to looted supplies from dead soldiers of all nationalities, but only one piece gave them all a uniform - a single white balaclava on every man or woman, with a black skull and crossbones sewed onto it. Some who stole helmets painted a crude skull on the front, designating them as a part of the Finnish Defense Corps - the name they had given themselves.

Anja stood before them all, all of them staring at her like sheep, their balaclavas and helmets merging with the white snow beneath them. She gripped her great-grandfather's ancient AK-47, probably used when the first Finland declared itself next to mighty Slavorussia. "Now is the time to attack, my friends! We will strike at the rear of the Swedes, both flanks! You, Kilkka! Take forty men, hit the Swede's right flank! The rest of you are with me...we will teach them we will not sit and die easily."

Official Finnish Declaration
The Republic of Finland is appalled to find its territorial sovereignty being violated by aggressive nations bent on nothing but the destruction and elimination of the Finnish people. Finland has been experiencing a time of looking inward and rediscovery of the Finnish culture. While our internal developments happened,we have been attacked with the intent of total annihilation of the Finnish nation. Thus, all defense forces are being mobilized, and emergency nuclear protocols are being initiated to heighten defense capability. Finnish Naval forces, numbering 18 major warships are being readied for the defense of Torku. All Finnish military and paramilitary units are being organized for the defense of our nation.
Finnish air units, numbering 95 squadrons of highly advanced defense fighters, are being readied to defend Finnish airspace against incursion.
We hope that Swedish and Torun forces will respect the territorial integrity of our nation, for if they continue to destroy ours, they will lose their homelands as well.

-Classified to Germanic Union and Russia-
We ask for military and economic assistance in defending our nation against unwarranted aggression.

The 4th Air Wing the 'Black Dragons had been ordered to take off from their bases in the Transamur, several hours earlier. The Northern Command's first operational Air Wing of 36 F-1 Quantums had been given orders to begin a test mission of one of the new mission types the F-1 had been built for, perhaps the most critical 'Long Range Black Air Superiority'.

Colonel Zhou as the 4th Air wing flew stealth over Siberia avoiding detection while gaining altitude till they reached near space to hit the PDE, Zhou flipped through the target types of the enemy units on his heads up displays. Each planes estimated RCS, armaments, thrust weight ratios etc, memorizing each of them as they stacked up in comparisons to the UFE units. A red light blinked.

"All units, configure for high altitude hyper cruise." he said. The LCD screen showed a progress bar as the engines internal rapidly retuned themselves. Then a sudden rush forward, the pulse detonation engine kicked in propelling the UFE fighter aircraft well over the Earth. In front of Zhou was a sky of black with stars brighter than any you could see on Earth. Never will get used to this. he thought to himself, though a pilot for 18 years, this was the first fighter he ever flew that got this high. The Earth below him was curved the landscape divided between a sheets of ice, mountains, and slivers of blew Ocean. Zhou leaned his head back to relax as they planes moved towards their final destination.

After several hours the GPS flash read it was time to descend. "All units this is lead, drop to 20, 000 feet switch back to turbo." he said. Pressing a button the aircraft began to decelerate switching from its pulse detonation configuration to turbojet as they cleared the White Sea.

"Switching to combat configuration." Zhou said. "Requesting SATCOM display."

"This is control, roger that, SATCOM display initializing." a voice came in on the other line.

The HUD brought up key areas marked by the UFE space command as satellites in orbit provided synethic aperture radar, top down radar, and electro optical surveillance of the battlefield in real time. Somewhere in a basement of Shanghai, thousands of computer servers were running image and radar recognition software to interpret what the UFE space forces were seeing and transmitting it to analysts in Taiwan who were then feeding it to Zhou's display, all over a secure global broad band connection.

"Roger, target groups located. Black Dragons, beginning intervention." he said. "All units, second squadron and third squadron move to point bravo engage enemy carrier air wing. First squadron follow me." he ordered.

The F-1s broke off into two attack groups maintaining high altitude. The visual reactive camouflage, stealth shaping, IR reduction features, and nano-sensors on the radar resistant materials were all reporting 100 percent effectiveness making detection by either side extremely unlikely as they passed into Finnish air space.

"Deploying drones. Man are these guys going to be in for a surprise." Zhou joked.

Eight picket drones were launched ahead of the 1st Squadron's F-1s activating a radar sweeping web. Honing in on the search radars of the enemy AWACs and onboard F/B-22 radars. The drones initiated a tailored data stream cyber attack to begin jamming as the F-1s closed in. The stand off munitions launched by the F/B-22s would be downed one after the other by long range directed energy attacks as they highly sophisticated smart skin unified sensors would transmit back the data to cloud computing servers in the UFE using a combination of high and low frequency ultra-low probability of intercept radar.

"Functional lock." Zhou said when he got the green light. The F/B-22s were found. "Prepare to engage. Black Dragon Lead, firing." he said. Pressing a button Zhou had achieved a long range lock on the first of the F/B-22s. The age of stealth was about to end for the Torun's air force.

Zhou's LRAAM launched from its internal weapons along with 35 of its counter parts, clearing the first stage on turbojet it released the back booster going to scramjet to close in on the target at hypersonic. But this new LRAAM was a surprise. Rather than being 100 percent radar guided, something not very effective against stealth, the UFE had designed a completely new kill system. The unit was equipped pure photonics giving it much greater endurance to 5th gen AESA radar jamming and had a final visual kill vehicle. Developed for SAMs, this image recognition technology would take over and utilize cloud computing to find an F/B-22 and explode on it, making it immune to all existing countermeasures the enemy aircraft would have ranging from state of the art jamming to chaffs and flares. Lastly and most devastatingly, absolutely no warning of a missile lock would activate on the enemy fighter planes. They would not know where or what was shooting at them till their squadron started exploding.

"Fry 'em up real nice." Zhou said, adding onto the one two punch. The F-1s closed rapidly to within 50 kilometers where they could activate their onboard lasers, microwaves, and radars effectively against the enemy planes themselves. The F-1s quickly followed up their attack on the F/B-22s by targeting the survivors circuitry. By concentrating both the directed energy weapons and radars squarely on F/B-22s they would create huge power surges designed to cook the avionics which kept the F/B-22s in the air in the first place.

The two squadrons attacking the carrier groups of Sweden made a similar attack, they launched more drones to conduct cyber attacks against the two carriers and their escorts as well. After engaging the carrier air wing with 64 of the new LRAAMs, the squadrons broke apart. 2nd Squadron followed up with a directed energy attack in a similar pattern that first squadron did. Third Squadron however would move against the carriers. Not carrying sufficient fire power to sink them they would instead target their capability to defend themselves.

Squadron Captain Pho moved in for the attack run at 75 kilometers, "Target acquired, fixes on enemy CIWS and SAM assets." he said. "All units make your attack runs."

The Squadron descended over the baltic sea firing off 24 surface skimming missiles before doing a directed energy attack, ahead of them. Targeting the large towers of the carriers and their CIWS turrets, they aimed to fry out the bridges controls and computer systems as they missiles accelerated to super sonic before making their final approaches in on the carriers executing high gee turns so that point defense missiles couldn't stand a chance of catching them and releasing shaft so that if the CIWS sensors did manage to survive the directed energy attack, they'd be unable to track the missiles in the brief 20 seconds before closing in on the targets.

Zhou came across the comm channel, "All units good job, lets return to base for debrief." he said. With that the F-1 Air Wing would pull away from the battlefield flying back to home bases, but not before meeting mid air refuelers 2000 kilometers back over the polar regions above the Burytia coast, well outside of range of any European powers to detect. The disposable drones would have their circuitry fried as they rapidly activated their identification proof auto destruct mechanisms.

Combat data of the battle space would be rapidly forwarded to strategic command of the The Sovereign Initiative and then forwarded onto the other combatants in the Black Operations field test.

All across Finland, the airwaves were silent as radio communications were knocked out by Swedish attacks.
Then, at 9 AM, all civilian airwaves, AM and FM, burst to life with classical Finnish music. Sibelius filled the air as Kalevala burst out of the radios into every single huddling Finn in their basements and bomb shelters. Then, as the great epic finished, a religious piece filled the air as the great Archbishop of Turku issued an address. "In these dire times, I, an old man, can not do much. However, we must preserve the culture and voice of our people. We must ensure the peace of our Scandinavia, our blessed homeland." As the Archbishop finished his speech, he blessed all the people of Finland for pride and courage. Then, a husky voice filled the airwaves. "This is General Hayla, leader of the Finnish Armed Forces. We have, in our history, been invaded by the Swedish many times. This time, we will again fight with our power! I call on all able reservists to report back to military barracks for briefing and deployment!" With that, the voice ended, and once again classical music resumed.
