An OOC TOP invitation

I think it's fair to say that for most of its existence, TOP has been a pretty insular community. We've always had very high forum activity, but that's not apparent to visiting diplomats, because they can seldom see what's going on in Castle Paradoxia.

Things are about to change.

In the lulls between wars (or between targets in our strength range) we've come up with a number of ways to maintain our activity, community and inter-connectedness. Today we are opening previously private alliance activities to anyone that cares to participate in them. You don't have to have a diplomat mask, you just have to register on our forum. These activities are entirely out of character. Open to all, even the Blue Colony. Just follow the links to get to where you want.

In our Beer Hall (our version of a plain jane spam forum), we have opened three new subforums to the public.

Lots of us drink beer--that's apparent from many of the surrender terms offered in the last couple of years. If you have a unique beer experience that you want to share, or want to experience something outside of your normal piss-in-a-can, drop by and take a gander. It just opened last night, and we've already got two interesting reviews.

One of the oldest continuously active off-topic sub-forum is our Role Playing Games forum. To clarify, this is for traditionally table-top RPGs (Palladium, GURPS, D&D, Cyberpunk, etc...). You can talk role-playing games, set up a game, or even join a game in progress.

Speaking of which, we have a Vampire the Masquerade game in progress, and to celebrate the opening of this forum to the public, Story Teller Richard Rahl will be accepting up to two new players in the current game. No experience with the system is necessary, but the ability to post once daily and write well is.

The Library
Paradoxians are very literate individuals, and after discussing a number of books in our general members-only spam forum, Feanor suggested that we create a subforum purely for literary discussions. This suggestion evolved into a book of the month club, and we've just finished our first title, George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones. Discussion of the book is set to start tomorrow, and our nominations for this month's book are about to begin. Join in on the fun!

You'll also notice extensive discussion of the Wheel of Time series (it's a TOP favorite--we've even RPG'd it in the afore mentioned forum).

The Paradoxian Enclave
This is where it all began. People seldom remember that TOP is an invasion alliance. Some of the best games in the world are made by the platypi at Paradox Interactive. If you're a PI member, and you like AAR's, then this is the place for you.

The only thing that we ask is that you keep things PG-13...ish.

Come on by, take a look around, and stay a spell.

PS- Don't look for your embassy while you're there if you haven't posted in it this year. I'm embassy cleaning.

They will use your personal information against you and use it to stalk you! You know how this sort is, totally untrustworthy and nothing more than bullies.

I would never sign up for TOP boards, the traitorous scum.

Also, the Martin series is great. Reading them again right now myself.

I'll be doing that this summer before number 5 comes out.

And I very well may hop over to the TOP forums to check that out.

I was actually thinking of running a D&D game online my self, but I haven't found a good way to share map information with players. D&D has an extremely detailed tactical combat system and it seems a shame to me to gloss it over, what approach do you guys use?

When I'm drunk and drinking I'll probably stop by and pay you a visit with a review of my drink or similar drunken posting. Enjoy the festivities and good luck getting some interesting activities going, you guys have a good community with a forum worth signing up for an account on it if someone doesn't already have one.

You would do well to read this article. Also WotC is supposed to be finally making some progress on making an online game-table (y'know, the one that they announced in '07...)

For the most part, any edition prior to 4E is capable of operating independent of maps anyways as long as the DM has good language skills, the players are imaginative, and everyone remembers that you're trying to have fun rather than win. I played a 1E/2E hybrid game online for years in the '90s and never used a map at all.

Wow, that actually looks like it might be nearly exactly what I wanted, thanks! Gonna give it a whirl now.

Always been a 3/3.5 myself.

Edit: ahh not quite what I was looking for, but by far the closest one yet, thanks.

Yes. We frequently discuss my favorite book of all time: The Crossroads of Twilight. :gun::frantic:
