TheShammySocialist
Classified After a year of development, the Army Inventions Directorate, alongside Thales and the Tenix Group are proud to announce the beginning of the procurement of the Integrated Warfighting System or "IWS". The IWS combines the growing high-technology standards employed by the Southern Cross Defense Forces, and applies them into practical battlefield usage. This enhances battlefield communication standards, as well as improving situational awareness of the individual soldier, using a data processing monocle for pointing out revealed targets. The Integrated Warfighting System also combines increasing high technology to provide soldiers with the latest in protection and comfortable battlefield wear. Working with civilian outdoor recreational retailers, the Tenix Group designed a new line of uniforms to provide Southern Cross soldiers with the latest in synthetic materials. From boots with moisture control and heavy waterproofing, to high-impact shin-, knee-, and elbow-guards sown into clothing, to the Pacific Brands Tactical Kevlar Gloves, to redesigned helmets for comfy wear and increased protection to neck and side-of-head angles. Alongside these designs in clothing, a load-carriage system is integrated with combat armor to create the 'Ram Mark II' Cross-Purpose Armor System. Armor is composed of the superlative Thales 'Viper' Multilayer composite armor system with a Kevlar bi-weave, which provides strong protection from a large range of ballistic projectiles. The Viper system also provides some heat and flash protection, and can protect soldiers from burns for short periods of time. TheShammySocialist
Classified/Viewable via Satellites Over the last few days, ships of the Southern Cross Naval Defense Force had been slipping their moorings and quietly leaving port at night. Families had been informed that there was a major training exercise underway, but rumors abounded on-base and between those attentive commuters who went past the naval bases. Southern Cross naval vessels had left port, most of the fleet having sailed into the night with no actual word of destination. Very few commanders knew what was going on, with only ship commanders and their executive officers, as well as navigating staff knowing operational plans. Meeting in the Coral Sea, the Southern Cross fleet built itself around the venerable carrier SCS Indefatigable, which was established as the flagship. Alongside her, was the landing platform Storm, which had ground forces embarked, along with the arsenal ship Conqueror. Two cruisers also accompanied the fleet, Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as two destroyers, Attacker and Narrabri. Backing up the screening force were the frigates Resistance, Deterrence, and Shadower along with the three Littoral Combat Ships, Phantom, Wraith, and Ghost providing a triangular picket force. The amphibious landing docks Endurance and Resolute, also with ground troops embarked, had also joined the fleet. The attack submarines Australia and Bermuda, the latter having just returned from a diplomatic courtesy visit to Portugal, provided subsurface escort to the fleet, which had met about seventy-five nautical miles off Sydney to the east. Supporting the large task force, known as 'Lighthorse', would be the Joint Support Ship, Supplier. The fleet, with all vessels finally reporting, began steaming northwards in formation, with full air cover provided by both the carrier air group and land-based air superiority fighters. The moves by the fleet would be easily visible by any satellites passing over the area. Edited May 22, 2011 by TheShammySocialist
