"You have no right either, a democratically elected government has been replaced with the puppet of a foreign power" - Steven McBadger, Regent of the AFS
"And once we are done with you, there will be a democratic government elected in the Union of the Southern Cross. And what of General Dawson, who initiated a coup the 'democratically elected government' that took over this nation before us, how did he have any more right to rule then we did. And what of that warmongering tyrant before him, who led you into this pointless war with Pihana? He showed no penchant for stable statesmanship, blood is on both their hands for this useless war. Your argument holds no weight in water to us, or the international community.

And of course, the people won't fight for us, that is why call to arms has summoned a force of forty thousand men and women in less then twenty-four hours, and more keep coming."

All across the Union of the Southern Cross, thousands had shown up for the call to arms, arming themselves, many a veteran of past wars, many would be veterans of at least one more before peace was to be had.

With a logistical point built up for launching operations, a trio of daisy cutter bombs were used to flatten an area for the setup of a forward operating field base along the Free Australian Border. Several helicopters would be used to deploy metal grating to form a runway while a command and control unit was brought in to coordinate air operations.

This would be followed by STOVL strategic air lift landing a medium combat brigade and a combined arms company on the border of Free Australia. Preparations were made for a land incursion into their territory.

Several planes began to be loaded with small arms to deliver to the UFEs new Aussie allies.

we refuse unconditional surrender
"Very well."

The brigades of the Union of the Southern Cross army, began moving south as soon as the provisional government of the Australian Free State denied the justified request of the USC and IPFO. Massive convoys of commandeered and volunteered vehicles began rolling south towards the border with the Australian Free State. The troops had been armed with whatever weapons were available, including superlative UFE arms that had been just delivered. Machineguns were distributed to each squad, that usually numbered about twenty or so volunteer men and women, all dressed in a myriad of camouflage and regular military uniforms.

Rocket launchers would be assigned at the platoon level, while mortars would be assigned at the company level. Many of the men and women had fairly good experience with these weapons, and looked grim and determined as the vehicles rumbled south. The brigades were assigned in a fairly even fashion along the border as they arrived, and the troops looked across the border. Preparations were made for a general advance into AFS territory.

A private statement was sent International Peacekeeping Force - Oceania;
"The Australian Free State has denied the request to surrender unconditionally to the Union of the Southern Cross, they deserve no peace negotiations, they entered this conflict willingly searching out riches in Pihana. Now they believe that a mere switch of government will save their nation, they showed no mercy in carrying out these attacks. Only now have they noticed the error in their ways, and want to reverse what has happened.

The Union of the Southern Cross will not stop until the AFS unconditionally surrenders."
A public statement was issued to the Australian Free State;

15 UFE Tu-160s would fly over the combat zone of the 1, 3, 4, and 5th Combat brigades each carrying FOAB bombs over the target. Each brigade would have three FOABs airburst over them releasing shockwaves the size of 27 city blocks, virtually annihalating them. This was quickly followed by the appearance of the 6 AC-130s out of Guam. The gunships would begin interdiction duties to engage and annihalate the surviving force.

Meanwhile UFE Troops crossed the border to rapidly take control of the Western Free Australian State.
"We will advance when we want if you are unconditionally surrendering, it is up to us to set the terms, not the Australian Free State. You will receive the same terms that Communist Australia received, which are as follows;

As Australian Free State has shown that it has not been a proponent of peace on continental Australia, and the International Peacekeeping Force and the USC feels that change in sovereignty is needed, we effectively will impose the following terms as dictated on Australian Free State:

Disbandment - The AFS government must disband all vestiges of its governance over its territory. The Communist Australian Army must stand down, and lay down its weapons, vehicles, and aircraft at appropriate locations, and the military will be disbanded back to civilian life.

Leadership - The AFS government must recognize ROBERT ABEL as the new de facto ruler of the former territory of AFS. Mr. Abel has shown to be a responsible member of the Free Australian movement, and his future is a bright one indeed. His governance will be trusted by the International Peacekeeping Force, he will take over control the command of the government of the Australian Free State. He is currently serving as the interim leader of the Union of the Southern Cross.

Territorial Governance - The AFS government must transfer all governance of its territory to the members of the International Peacekeeping Force, and the Union of the Southern Cross.

"Very well, the blood of your countrymen, be on your hands."

'Alea Iacta Est' - The Die has been Cast

With the response by the Australian Free State, the impromptu-raised brigades of the Union of the Southern Cross began a general advance across the border.

The Gold Coast Brigade, supported by the Third Brisbane Brigade advanced along Coastal Highway 1 into AFS territory near Tweed. The Second Brisbane Brigade began a general advance along international Route 15, into New South Wales, near Tenterfield, striking forward against any resistance. To the west of the Second Brisbane Brigade, the First Brisbane Brigade moved across overland and secondary roads towards Moree on International Route 39. Farther west, the Dirrabandi Brigade began moving south towards Walgett, along Route 55, the Frontier Brigade stayed farther west, and remained in static positions, holding the farthest west north-south border between New South Wales and the Union of the Southern Cross.

The Sunshine Brigade remained in strategic reserve, completely equipped with commandeered vehicles, ready to move to reinforce any of the advancing forces if needed.

Mothership Roma

"How many vessels were captured?" Counti asks.

"Six total sir," replies Degrassi.

"We sent in four missile boats, how did we get six ships?"

"The missile boat crews got ambitious sir."

"What are these reports of art galleries and a museum being looted?" Counti inquires.

"Well, resistance seemed so minimal that Beckwith sent his teams in and grabbed everything they could including the most valuable portable items possible. The haul is quite substantial, quite substantial indeed."

"Still, art galleries, that will be difficult property to move," Counti mutters.

"I'm sure our contacts in Macau will find it easy enough to move the goods," Degrassi responds.

"The captured ships, are they underway and flying new flags?"

"Yes sir, we have small crews on each of them, security teams, and they are sailing in convoy with the Mothership Benito Mussolini and the missile boats Amazing and Dagger."

"Good, get them to the rendevous point and get them their quickly. Scour the ships for anything useful. This includes perishable items, electronics, valuables, and such and transfer it all to one of our ships."

"Already being done sir."

"Good, recall our ships, get ourselves underway to the Coral Sea, and remain as anonymous as we possibly can in these waters. We'll linger here a bit longer and see if other opportunities show themselves."

Beckwith

"How many did we lose?" Beckwith asks.

"Nineteen men dead, twenty three wounded," the surgeon replies.

"Damn, I was hoping it would be a lighter bill to pay," Beckwith mutters.

"Most of the wounded will be returned to duty in a few days to a few weeks," the surgeon informs him.

"Very well," Beckwith mutters as he returns to his cabin to begin writing several letters of notification. His organization is well insured through a murky Legion sponsored firm that handles this sort of insurance. The families of the fallen men will be well taken care of, but to Beckwith it seems like a small consolation for the lives lost. 'At least the families will get double shares of the prize monies once Counti authorizes a pay out,' he thinks to himself as he examines a painting in the corner of his cabin.

He has no idea who painted it or who the picture is of, but she's a lovely looking woman (Sarah Tintagyl). Given the sticker prize of several thousand dollars he can only guess she must have been someone famous or infamous depending on your point of view. He eyes the painting critically and can't help but thinking there are some similarities between the woman in the painting and a vaguely recognizable pop singer. As he hates pop music he doesn't spend much more time thinking about it as he carries on with his day.

Counti's Quarters

The former Admiral of the LCDF dozes in his bunk as the ship gently rocks back and forth. The hum of activity fails to bother him anymore. A ship at sea is never truly quiet as men and women are always on duty making sure their home at sea is fit to sail. He can't help but thinking that there are more opportunities waiting for them in Australia. Orders have been given to rearm, refuel, and make ready to see what happens next.

Rather than linger in the same area the fleet moves deeper into the Coral Sea area. Far enough in fact that a quick turn to the north will carry them into the international waters of other nations if they need to make a rapid escape. Their flags have been changed, their names erased from their sterns, and their deck furniture rearranged as much as possible to confuse aerial reconnaissance.

"Interesting times are at hand," Counti mutters as he dozes and before long drifts off to sleep.

The Vikings begin to land in large number, almost no shots have been fired due to the surrender of the Australians. Once that they do, in groups they begin to move through the city and take what they want. The massive Landing Ship opens out, some IFVs and Tanks flow out of it, the other ships sometimes are able to provide humvee-like vehicles with machineguns ontop and pretty much begin to take over the surrendered city. At first, things are peaceful provided that nobody tries to grandstand a pitiful resistance, else they would receive their fair share of axe and lead.

Some of the Northmen raid Museums, others simply go for banks - the ones which have equipment sturdy and specialized enough so as to be able to break bank safes open. Some go for whatever food they can find, and others for technological items from store. Although a provision of food is always captured as well as fuel and other supplies, in general, they just seem to go for whatever is the most expensive. They make sure to take down Australian flags and to cover any monuments with black sheets, so as to remind them at all times about what is taking place.

At the port, they also start to take whichever boats seem to be in best condition. They will try and fill their own boats with as many goods as they can, if they become full, then they will steal boats from the port just to be able to take more things with them. This was just the first wave, every hour a new group seems to arrive. Krauts and Dutch and Scandinavians everywhere!

The Union of the Southern Cross forces (the Third Brisbane Brigade and Gold Coast Brigade) began advancing faster into New South Wales, troops on the coastal flank began striking faster towards Coffs' Harbor, encountering little resistance. The Second Brisbane Brigade continued advancing south, meeting little resistance as well, moving towards Tamworth. The First Brisbane Brigade advanced towards Narrabri, and moving towards Dubbo as well. The Dirrabandi Brigade began a general advance from Walgett, overland towards Cobar, moving towards Victoria.
