  1. Also thought this was the other c-word.

Take care of that Dajobo. Looking forward to seeing you back and healthier than ever when all is said and done.

It'll be a rough road, regardless of what the doctors have said about the plan to be cancer free. No matter how "smooth" the journey, it's still one hell of a ride. Be sure to enjoy both the highs and the lows of that journey; after enduring the pits, celebrate all of the successes and the strength it took to overcome each obstacle.

And hey, between sitting in a hospital post-op or any subsequent therapies, there's always a computer, internet, and this stupid internet game with cyber nations.

  2. KM: When developing Cyber Nations on a MMOG scale, it was important to make the game fair. Because of that, some sacrifices were made for gameplay purposes. For example, the 5 percent rule was added because of massive outcry from the
community that the game was too unrealistic with nuclear weapons so readily available and being used on a massive scale like we saw before the 5 percent rule was added.

  3. It depends on the alliance. Currently none actually follow this practice, except perhaps OBR. Everyone else is either decidedly neutral or plays the domino game. Frankly the reason is probably because it makes things interesting. As much as people pretend otherwise, anyone not in a neutral alliance these days essentially declares that they love war, and they don't want to be left out of all the global power plays. If they wanted to just build nations, then of course following your treaty advice or having none at all is the way to go.

  4. The NG-Umb dynamic is completely irrelevant to my personal opinions of either of them. MK, GOONS, ODN , can all confirm the my opinions of Umb are based solely on my own personal interaction. You can only be requested by allies (MK, GOONS, ODN) to bridge a gap to a working relationship with an ally of theirs that you are at odds with (Umb) so many times, and be totally, completely dismissed on each and every occasion (except for Domisi actually trying once, kudos to him)... before you get sick of the arrogance and dismissive attitude. No other alliance in the top 20 has earned my opinion more than Umb has.

You present an interesting case. I suppose all of your relationship gap bridging was done on IRC since the only forum posts I saw from you were, I think, in MK coalition forums (that is, not on Umbrella forums), where you and a few others may have been some of the largest proponents of wanting peace at the expense of a several months long extended war of all of Eq vs Umbrella. You may note that every one of my posts on those forums displayed a grateful attitude to allies and non-allies alike, even people like NG who might have gone to the other side merely for a shot at Umbrella. But I am only one person. Perhaps you spoke to the various pres/VPs of Umbrella over time rather than at our forum, in any case.

Yes, you fought in our coalition, but you did not burn for Umbrella. You burned for C&G and maybe MK. Umbrella was the nuisance that started the war (I will note that although you were always angry about our "arrogance" and "attitude" you were supportive and spent time arguing that the CB was a "because they wanted to" and not the grounds for war people make it out to be, which I appreciated). Though, I would argue had we sat back and tried to lay low like Pacifica in the past, it would have only given time for alliances like ODN to sign their treaties prior to engaging in war rather than promising not to announce/sign until after. Time was running low and prospects would only get worse had that war not started when it did.

As for Umbrella not being thankful to the allies of allies, you'll note that most of them, say even in Your immediate sphere, were tied to the hip with Pacifica, the alliance that had just organized the hit against us. Does it make sense to be thankful and rest in the laurels of having OTPs more loyal to our biggest enemy than to ourselves, or does it make sense to go out and make new friends, like Valhalla, and leave the years long rocky relationship that Umb/MK became? We chose the latter. It's filth to you, but for Umbrella, there was no better choice.

  5. I can't think of a single college course that was comparable to a high school course.

Regarding requirements, yes sometimes it doesn't make sense that you would need to know a foreign language to know how to teach history, and I can't understand at all why there wouldn't be some allowable form of placement test if you do know a foreign language. That said, I am a strong proponent of forcing students to take a class from many different subject areas.

So your requirements again... 2 semesters of a foreign language, 1 econ, 2 science, 2 math, an art, 2 english, 1 physical eduation, 1 literature....

Yes, this looks like high school again, but in college, you can get much better, much more interesting classes.

Alright, so foreign language, you are proficient, and now you have to take a Spanish or German culture class. Take something historical. Learn about the history of mesoamerica or something. This can be fun, and related to what you enjoy.

Econ: great for someone who likes history. Your assignment looks more historical, though probably not the kind of history you would like to be doing. I'd prefer something more numbersy myself, where I'm solving problems.

Science: What's not to like about science! ahhhhghhghghgh. (I may be biased). You can take stuff related to bio if you want. If you aren't too interested or planning to use it in the future, maybe something like nutrition just for your own knowledge and fun? Or some kind of neurobio to understand how all that stuff up in our heads is working? Human behavioral biology was my favorite class in college; you can understand what makes people tick. Genetics, and figure out how to create your own pig-cow-giraffe monster. Or why not Physics or chemistry? Those are fun, and you can figure out how the world works. Molecular bio and you can figure out how life works. If this is a requirement for the history major, you don't have to take any kind of difficult science class. You can take one that's almost just pure fun. Introduction to black holes, designed for non-science majors. A class on human origins. A seminar on human physiology. Hell, quantum mechanics for non-majors... Science is so fun. Just pick a fun class.

Math: Math is used for everything, and even if you don't plan to use it, if you have it, you'll find yourself taking advantage of that knowledge and just doing fun stuff for yourself. Or you can use it to have a stronger background for higher level, and thus more interesting, economics classes.

Art: Can you take an art history class? I loved having regular lunch presentations for the art history of Greece, Rome, Egypt... It was basically just a history class, with the art doing the narrating.

English and Literature: This could be very useful for a history teacher. The students will have to write essays and the like anyway, so it'd be good for you to be strong in these subjects. And again, this is college, not high school. Pick something really fun for you.

P.E.: LOL. Well, make the best of it. Take a class on fencing, rock climbing, golf, soccer, tennis, basketball, bowling, hula-hooping, I'm sure there's something fun there. Just make the best of it.

  6. As an added comment, since I remembered this post again. I checked my notes, and I WAS making Over 28.5mil NET without trade swapping in the past (and without the Moon Mining...). Now I only make numbers around what you quoted, Raidon.

This worries me, anyone else who is still reading this topic notice similar drop-offs? Or did I do something horribly wrong with my nation management in the last few months (my gross income is down 5mil from its absolute peak, and bills are a touch higher these days)? (And if everyone else does indeed have the same drop off, then don't worry. Those crazy quotes are pre-war).

  7. Good point, Bob. Maybe an added cost just to declare war, given to the declaring nation? Or an added cost per battle for the guy that declared war? (I don't think an added cost per aggressive ground assault works because aggressive or defensive assaults, with instantaneous troop deployment, etc., doesn't reflect the reality that a Declaring Nation is the real aggressor) The cost can be proportional to the defender's strength.

This still gives an advantage for gangs of attackers, but it does ensure that their money will drain faster. Thus leading to a larger desire for peace, even from the attacking side, a la the original great wars.

  8. The difference is that these games are still in beta, by your choice. Players don't think of what we have as the "finished product," necessarily, but think of it as a constantly evolving world which steadily gets better, more feature-rich, and more balanced.

CN, to me, is essentially what it is, save an occasional and much appreciated addition every once and a while (like moon bases). That people have opinions and ideas should be a great thing, just so long as those individuals realize that this is your game, that is essentially a finished product, and that updates are a privilege, not a right.

CC, I can understand the steady stream of suggestions. It is not a finished game. It is a great concept and a game that will get better with further balancing and additional features. The headaches that come from there, I think will just have to remain until it gets to the point of, say CN by late 2006 (as opposed to early 2006).

In any case, I believe I speak for most everyone when we say thank you for creating what you have, and for doing as much updating as you do!

  9. Admin, I just wrote an enormous post: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...t&p=1332751, with regards to the moon base topic. It may not be what you have in mind at all, it's very different, but it would add a very interesting dimension to the game/bases.

The idea is that many people could put cash together to buy a very expensive moon base, share the resources gathered from the base, and use those resources to their own ends. Everything they get and pay for is in proportion to how much they'd pay for the base. (Say total cost 5 billion, and ten people buy in for 500mil each, then they split the resources gathered equally) Anyway, I look forward to your and others' reactions to the idea. It may not be desired, but at least, hopefully it can spur creative thinking. :)

  10. HAHA. Funny.

Ironically, when making stuff for the MFO forum, we make it work for IE first. Then buti_oxa, basically the guy that does everything code-related, tests on firefox etc. for compatibility. Whenever there is a bug, it's always because of firefox... I wonder if it's because he may or may not work for Microsoft, and finds that IE is actually inherently intuitive...
