  1. Yeah, SPQR doesn't have consuls anymore. Especially not kingmorton, he's now in NPO.
  2. Amazing how much and how little things can change in a year. This time last year, the NPO was right at the top, as it has been for most of its existence. But it's closest competitor was the Legion, who isn't even the strongest on their color anymore. This time last year, in the Fark-GOONS conflict, we saw a sanctioned alliance have its way with a fledgling group of members. If they were to be at war again today, that would still hold true. I'm sorry, I have to revisit that. The fact that Fark has not only lived but become sanctioned, essentially taking the GOONS' spot, is surreal. If anything says I've been playing this too long, it's that. Kudos to Fark, and also hails are in order for MCXA on joining the #3 spot in the countdown. I want urine tests.
  3. If you think you're up to it, and are worth of carrying the sacred AA, the Flying Tigers may have a home for you. If not, there's always the Crimson Blades.
  4. Seriously, Walford? This thread is not related to you or your unending need to assert your self-worth, just because someone said your name. For a veteran member of the community, even such an IC hated one as yourself, you should know better. Back on topic: Dear OP: there is no incentive for anyone to lend you that money, even with the interest. Your plan is to give me $30M interest on a $72M investment that is over a time span of 160 days, at least (factoring in the 20 extra days to pay the interest). For some reason you're not putting Foreign Ministries into your calculations, so we'll pretend only 4 aid slots can be used. $30M/160 days = $187,500 per day. For me, at least, that's essentially the difference between carrying a full complement of tanks and the absolute minimum (zero). So rather than do all that administrative work, expect every single middle man to do their part without stealing the money or accepting any form of compensation throughout the entire process, and run up an obscene amount of risk for little return on my investment, I'd much rather apply the $72M to my nation, which will bring me the same financial benefits as well as improve my nation. More or less, if you would want to offer something to me that would pique my interest, you'd basically have to be my slave for life. Giving me tech almost indefinitely. As others have said, your best bet is to join an alliance. Not only will they provide opportunities for you to join in the tech trade to earn your money using tried-and-true systems, but they will also give you the advice, knowledge, and experience to best utilize that money. Also, PROTIP: Don't set your AA to IRON Applicant and declare war on someone. That's an excellent way to get IRON very mad at you. In fact, stop declaring wars immediately. Peace out of those you can, and when all of them are done and you are at peace, (which, considering that a Nueva Vida nation is attacking with the reason "for nueva vida!", you're probably on their ZI-list, and probably never going to not be attacked ever again... see what I mean about this being in an alliance = having access to information and experienced fellow members?) join up with someone. Almost all alliances have open applications, some make you go through a training and examination phase to enter, but just about everyone will give you a chance to become a member if you prove your worth to them.
  5. I like Crymson's idea a lot regarding limiting troop dismissals; it's a quick and easy change, I think, that would add to the realism. Not only that, but it would do away with the accidental over-dismiss anarchy. Nations under surrender terms could lower their troops to the absolute minimum without accidentally anarchying themselves. There is an issue then of what happens should you buy infrastructure, but that's somewhat outside the scope of this discussion. While I like that idea, I propose an alternative: -Lower the amount of infra destroyed in the defeat alert to 7.5% or a maximum of 10. -Lower the amount of tech destroyed in the defeat alert to 2.5% or a maximum of 5. -Lower the cash destroyed to 2.5% or a maximum of $2.5 Million. -Attacking Nations may capture 5% or a maximum of 20 miles of land. -Allow all attackers to get in one defeat alert each for a maximum of 3 total on the defending nation. This will only require changing the parameters slightly and adding a new function for capturing land. Realistically, it makes sense: a nation is being curbstomped by three stronger foes and employs 'scorched earth' tactics. They destroy all infrastructure, technology, or anything of worth in the land they retreat from, yet the attacking armies acquire land. Further, the infrastructure levels will take less of a hit while the cash and tech levels will be drained slightly faster, which gives less incentive to turtle as you stand a better chance of lasting longer while raiding money during ground attacks than you do continuously bleeding money while turtling. Nations who choose to fight back will see more of an effect on their infrastructure level, dropping them out of their attackers' level more quickly and allowing them to stand a better chance against subsequent opponents. I am against disallowing cruise missile or aircraft attacks based on troop levels. Often an infantry battalion is accompanied by air support, but the two may also be controlled by entirely different wings of the same nation's military. I would also be curious to investigate using Guerrilla Camps in this regard to make them somewhat useful. Maybe a Guerrilla camp could now have the following statistics: I say "defending" soldier strength because tanks have differing attacking and defending strengths, I'm not sure if soldiers do. But a tiny bonus to the defender, especially if tied into guerrilla camps (which would serve the purpose of a real life guerrilla, only being useful in defense). But I'm not sure exactly how simple that solution is. I think changing the defeat alert parameters is a much easier and more effective solution, and the guerrilla camp suggestion is just to see if anyone else thinks that it's a viable idea. It would also make them somewhat more useful than they already are, which is almost entirely useless.
  6. Wow, can't believe I didn't see the comment you left on mine last week.

    Of course, yes. :) (belatedly)

  7. Normally I use my Mac to access CN, but I sometimes use a PC at work. When I was deleting some improvements before, it would continue to show me that I had 5 labor camps until I refreshed the screen. I read the 1 new message in my inbox, and still the little notifier at the top of my nation page is still there in its bold red glory. I don't know if this is a game issue or a browser issue, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to report it. Yet another reason to hate PCs.
  8. I wouldn't complain if I were you. He's not in anarchy so you can take more tech, land, and infra from him. I'd count my blessings if this happened to me.
  9. SPQR: Now with 100% more Imperator Gene L. :jihad:
  10. Comrade Vladimir wrote an excellent piece regarding true sovereignty coming through joining an alliance, not through maintaining unaffiliated status. If I can find it, I'll link it here, since I won't pretend to possess the same level of wisdom as he.
  11. THIS IS WHY IM HOT THIS IS WHY IM HOT THIS IS WHY IM HOT THIS IS WHY THIS IS WHY THIS IS WHY IM HOT IM HOT CAUSE IM FLY, YOU AINT CAUSE U NOT So join SPQR and get Supa' Hawt.

  13. Note to all: this avatar gets much bigger in our thread o' ladies. As do some other things. HIYOOOOOOO
  14. SPQR: Now complete with Thread O'Ladies.
  15. Ah, I was wondering why my one year anniversary hadn't happened yet. So update tonight it is, then. Thanks!
  16. It's less worth it for the income than it would be as insurance for your current income in the event of war. If you have 8500 infra or so, you can afford to lose 2000 infra in a long, protracted war and not be all that devastated.
  17. Now, I promise I'll quit picking on you after this one, since you're new and this isn't a fair fight, but what aid do you plan to be handing out with your 1 day old nation?
  18. I would vote the latter, but I guarantee that due to his ferocity, you'd be way out of your league. I've been here for 363 days, and the number of people who have failed to live up to similar assertions far outweighs those who, indeed, "shake things up." Usually those who do need not proclaim that they will do so ahead of time.
  19. I hope that 3000 infra/300 tech will always be required for the MP to be active... it's scary to think that some rich nation could live eternally able to launch nukes sitting at ZI.
  20. Hate this. Love the 'hide the DEFCON' idea.
  21. The Infrastructure requirements need to be upped. I really don't know why they fell in the first place. I think the tech changes are actually pretty good.
