  1. Of course I'll take the 10 leashes, even if the alternative would be just 1 year in prison. But that's not the real point of the OP...

The relevant point here is, in a civilized, modern society, the objective of the penal system isn't to punish neither to avenge. it's objective is to rehabilitate and, in the meantime, protect the citizens from dangerous criminals.

Physical punishment only accomplishes the objectives of a savage, outdated sense of "justice" (punishment and revenge), but is not at all a valid method to accomplish the objectives of a modern, civilized sense of justice (prevent and restore).

And this is why nowadays, people find the idea of physical punishment abhorrent.

  2. Pravda always called them "articles" too- the name is ultimately irrelevant. I mean, were you actually coming in here (or to the OWF in general) looking for impartial opinions?

The New York Times calls them "articles", too... and CNN or Fox News claim to be impartial and objective.

Truth is, every news agency is nothing more than a propaganda machine. The idea that there exists such a thing like "impartial opinions" is stupid. Every human being has an opinion influenced by his interests (or by what he believes are his interests).

So, calling Franz a propagandist is quite redundant. Every one of us, is.

  3. Awesome post! This is precisely what I'm trying to articulate; however, to add to the complexity, "China", "Russia", and "EU" are spying on the US too.

I find this parallelism so hilarious and interesting. I dare say it's why I'm still playing this game today.

EDIT: knowing that you appear to see this predicament similarly to me, you never answered my last question: Do you believe Ecuador (or any country for that matter) can have a valid reason to harbor this guy?

EDIT 2: thanks for the post, I hope you enjoyed the read.

Russia and China, sure, they spy on the US. The EU, not so much. However, that's rather irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Fact is, in CN, if you spy on someone, you are giving that someone a valid CB. Yeah, if CN alliance "US" catchs alliance "China" spying on them, then they would have a CB to nuke them and all that. However we are speaking now about the opposite case, alliance "US" is the one caught spying others.

Alliance "Ecuador" would have all the right to accept nation leader "Snowden" into their ranks, as alliances have the right to recruit new members and "Snowden" would have done nothing wrong by exposing an illegal activity from an alliance.

Now, to add compexity to the issue, in RL, what Snowden has exposed is less an issue about US spying other countries, but US applying totalitarian Big Brother surveillance on his population and those of his allies. That has a difficult translation into CN, but I suppose it would equate to the Minister of Interior of alliance "US" actually hacking the in-game, forum and IRC accounts of his fellow alliance members and allies in order to read their private messages and conversations

Again, the problem would not be for nation leader "Snowden", but for the spymaster of alliance "US", whose nation would probably be deleted by Admin for hacking the game, and could also face criminal charges in RL for invasion of privacy.

I mean, the whole problem here is that you stablish the paralell in that Snowden is the one that has spied anyone, and has somewhat gone rogue, when in reality the one that is spying is the NSA, and he just exposed the scheme.

  4. If we were to make a comparation between RL and CN, then it's the alliance "US" who is guilty of spying on other alliances, not nation leader "Snowden", neither would be alliance "Ecuador" if they harbor Snowden. Snowden is nothing more than the leader of a nation from the alliance "US" who has exposed the spying scheme by publishing screenshots from the forums of alliance "US" in the OWF, and now has taken the reasonable move of leaving his former alliance when it threatens him with ZI.

So, if RL were CN, now alliances "China", "Russia" and "European Union" would declare war on the alliance "United States" for spying.

Since RL is no CN, we will be spared the nuke exchange, though. All China and Russia are doing is laugh their asses off while the goverments of the European Union feel embarassed as it has been exposed that Master is spying on the Servant's Quarters.

  5. You know what I find cute? Every war someone has to blather on about how they are killing it and the other side sucks. This goes on until they surrender and blame it all on their allies.

    My thoughts, exactly.

You can tell who is losing a war by the amount of inconsistent babble they scamp through the Forums. And DH is surpassing all previously stated limits. Some of them try to look cool and funny. Others try to claim the moral high ground ("u are hypocrites", "u show that our way of playing the "game" is right"). Others rely in trash-talk ("u-sux", "u are the worst coalition evar"). Others brag about how strong they are ("our warchests are over 9 thousand!", "we have lotsa tech"). Others rely on numbers and data to justify how they are winning the war ("despite the fact our alliances are lossing more score than yours, our hand-picked battles show we are destroying you"). Etc. But the restless and nerviousness is patent in them all.

The other side, is just concentrated in doing their work.

  6. What this means, unexpectedly, is that whether Doomhouse win or lose, their way of playing the game will still be the victor.
You mean that the victor will still be whoever goes around bulling alliances until he annoys so many people that everyone agrees to join forces and dogpile on his ass?
Well, the reality of what has happened to any hegemonic bloc that has degenerated in such course of action, proves your premise wrong.

But, also, to call that juvenile course of action as "Realpolitik" is... well, insultant for the term. "Realpolitik" implies achieving your objectives and still coming up clean and with a smile, close to a White Knight PR rating. On the contrary, the "deal with it" doctrine is just plain inmature bulling, doomed to failure in a place like Bob, where war is economically inefficient for the most part.

Many of you, moralist-loathers, fail to realize the true power of morals. Nations in Bob are more than just a bunch of infra, tech and land. They are his leaders, and behind those leaders, there is an human being. Alliances are more than just bunchs of infra, tech and land packed togheter. They are communities of human beings. You may force them to do your bidding at the point of a gun, for a time. But whoever wins their hearts and minds, wins on the long run. And when your Hegemonic bloc acts in the stupid way you are defending, they pave half the way for the so-called "moralists".

So, there are indeed two kinds of politics in Planet Bob: The good ones that let you survive and maybe become a power-player, and the bad ones that get you destroyed. Your "realpolitik" belongs to the latter kind, as the community of Planet Bob is once again on the way to prove.

    Respectifully
