  1. Thanks Lurunin, that helps heaps.
  2. All slots closed until further notice, thanks.
  3. I've read a fair amount in other threads about the game mechanics of land, environment and their interaction, but prior to making a heavy investment in land (which I'll discuss in a bit), I'd like to run a few things by more experienced players, as I'm a newb. I'm also seeing contradictory opinions, such as "don't buy land unless you get a red alert" and "buy land to ensure its over half your infra" and "only buy land when you have to". The later opinion is about as useful as a fart in an elevator. Firstly, let me clarify a few things from my readings to ensure I'm starting out with the correct facts (before modifiers). I've sourced these from forums and wiki, so not sure how accurate they are. 1) if your land > (infra/2), then environment +1 2) if land > age/3, then environment +1 3) environment +1 = adds 1-2% more citizens 4) environment +1 = happiness + 1% So, I'm now at the stage where my land is significantly under the infra/2 test, and I'm trying to work out whether to spend the huge amount of money on bringing my land up above infra/2 in order to get the modest environment gains (see above), or whether to forget about land for the moment (my pop density is fine) and spend the money on infra and improvements etc. Here's a few stats about my nation, and the decision I'm trying to make. Infra 1200 Land 558 Land cost per mile $11,672.22 Pop density 25.96 Tech 115 (due to tech deals, normally would sit at 20) Tax collection daily 365k Bills daily 164k Net daily profit 201k Tax 28% Citizens 11500 Strength 5150 Efficiency 2570 Resources: WATER, ALUMINIUM, CATTLE, FISH, IRON, LEAD, LUMBER, MARBLE, PIG, WHEAT, (spice and sugar pending open trade request) . Bonus resources: CONSTRUCTION, BEER, (fast food and scholar pending open trade request) I apologise that these are individual factors that have been discussed in other threads, but I'm struggling to weigh the factors against each other, particularly the environment gain vs land cost, when it seems the money would be better spent on infra and improvements. Cheers, -Ed, Arcadia.

  7. REUTERS NEWS: Arcadia to weaponise North Pole The Fanatical Environmental Action Radicals (FEAR), Arcadia's most radical environmental lobby, today protested in the capital city of Arcan after King Arcanix's recent announcement that he would weaponise the North Pole by Christmas. In the light of recent dolphin attacks on tourists at King's Beach, one of the country's favourite tourist hotspots, the King made his announcement from the poop-deck of RMAS Awesome, the Royal Arcadian Navy's flagship guided-missile destroyer. "No longer will our people be subject to the ravages of the evil dolphin. Their cunning and despicable acts will not be tolerated, and it is with great pride that today, I announce my plans to combat the dolphin both at home and overseas. I have ordered the Admiralty to immediately commence laying mines in the seas around the entirety of our borders, as well as fitting all HMA Coastguard vessels with harpoons and dragnets." "Furthermore, I have ordered an engagement plan from our Armed Services Committee for protracted exercises and deployment in the Arctic Circle, with the plan to have naval bases in operation on the ice-flows by Christmas 2012. To this date, no other nation seems to be doing anything interesting in the North Pole, and our efforts to convince Japan to stop hunting whales and instead target dolphins have all but failed. We will declare a modest section of the Arctic ice-mass and surrounding waters as the Arcadian Arctic Sovereign Territory, or AAST, and uphold the right to vigorously defend this territory from any nation that dares question its legitimacy." "From the Arctic, we will take our fight to the dolphins and purge our nation of their scourge. No longer will our people have to fear their motives and their deeds. We will fight them on iceberg and at sea! We will fight them at home and afar! We will turn our waters red with the blood of this cetacean menace!" The announcement was accompanied by the launch of the HMAS Serious Sam, the fourth Littoral Assault Vessel commissioned in the past year. Some military analysts have speculated as to the King's intentions, and say that the massive military growth in the nation over the previous two years far exceeds the military budget reported by government. The Minister for Defence, Commander Jack "Big" Bang, maintained that "as per the June 2012 budget, military spending is at 5% of GDP, which is certainly not a figure that foreign powers should be concerned about...", however, a Reuters source from the Department of Defence, who preferred to remain anonymous, pointed to the portion of the national budget set aside for "The Department for Spiritual Conservation" (24% of GDP per June 2012 figures) as the answer to the dichotomy between apparent military growth and the modest budget reported by the Department of Defence. The source noted that the government has shown no interest in funding any spiritual or religious projects, and has privatised or canned the majority of its existing religious and spiritual education portfolio, the source also stating that "Spirituality" is just a cover for a massive defence 'black budget'. Total military spending far exceeds 40% of the national budget, says the anonymous source within the Department of Defence. The question of the military "black budget" being disguised within the cloak of government funding for spirituality was raised today with the King during an interview after His announcement over Arctic deployment: "The subject of spirituality and my funding of it is classified due to national security concerns." Our source in the Department of Defence was not contactable for further comment. Other analysts have pointed to the fact that RMAS Awesome is a recommissioned fishing trawler, and the four Littoral Assault Vessels began life as construction barges. They have dismissed this "posturing" as possible signs of early-onset dementia in the eccentric King, and argue that the "Department for Spiritual Conservation" is more likely a black budget for the King's palaces, his expansive collection of exotic cars, and quite possible for a rumoured program for social engineering.
