The UIN congress needs to vote on any type of treaty and so far only a Non Aggression Pact and an Economic Free Trade agreement have been approved. A mutual defense pact is still very closely tied and the vote is going to take place today.

The President sat for a moment. "I am willing to open a Non Aggression Treaty. Can we start with that before we move to defense?" The young but powerful first president moved to his wine glass and took a sip of the purple liquid. T he smell of fresh sea salt filled the air while they got closer to the coast and closer to the inner city.

The capital of the Union of Island Nations(UIN) is Douglas in the state of the "Island Republic". The Island Republic is controlled and administrated by the UIN government, unlike the other states which have their own legislature and/or leader. The UIN government is set up in this way: [b]Legislature: Congress[/b] Two congressmen are elected from each state and meet in Douglas on a regular basis to pass UIN laws that every state must abide by. Every midterm of the president's term the congress hold new elections. The UIN Congress can tax citizens, declare war, impeach the president within reason because he violated the constitution, and call for emergency elections of the Congress. In order to be a congressperson, you must have been born in the Island Republic or any other of the eight states. The minimum age is 34. [b]Leader: President[/b] The President is the head of government and head of state of the UIN. The president is elected by a majority vote of the congress and he can only have two four year terms. If a president comes in the middle of another president's term because he was either impeached or killed then he still does not have the right to add two extra years on his term.

The President nodded and led Stroud and his men to the limousine which had the flag of the UIN stamped onto the side. President David sat down across from Mr. Stroud and began to speak as the limousine started to move east. "All I was told that you have come on diplomatic terms. I hope you come on diplomatic terms for the UIN as a hole and not just one state?"

President David Walsh was delighted to hear Dr. Phillip Roger Stroud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of UKIM, was coming to the Island with a delegation of diplomats. The UIN flag proudly flew in the air while the President waited with a few congressmen for the plain to land.

[center][size="7"]The Union of Island Nations and States Overview[/size][/center] The Union of Island nations is a unique group of unified states. Each state has it's own government which can go from a democratic-republic all the way to a absolute monarchy. The economics, militarilies, flags and laws of each state is different as well. Each state has the right to conduct minor foreign affairs such as trade and war but only if approved by the "Union of Island Nations" government. Each state is a member of the central government called the "Union of Island Nations". The UIN has a congress made up of two representatives from each state. Every four years the congress votes on a congressional leader known as, "President". The President is the leader of the Union of Island nations and is the commander-in chief of all national troops. National troops are soldiers each state sets aside to have the Union of Island nations control to maintain law and order on the island. While a civil war of the UIN would not be tolerated, states often conquer other states because the UIN government doesn't have the resources or knowledge to go and stop the invasion. Each state has lower-tech guns such as rifles, pistols, and shotguns but the UIN government has more recent machine guns and assault rifles. This page will have a separate post on each state and the UIN government. This is just a overview. Religion, economics, military, and other carious subjects will be covered in these more detailed posts.
