In the Karma War, during my brief stint as Kaiser of Nordreich, the NPO handed me a rock-solid CB. They attacked a former Ragnarok member who had joined Nordreich. I requested they stop; I did not ask for any kind of reparations. Pacifica refused, saying that he 'remained on their target lists'. Later that same day, they changed their minds and ceased attacks. Regardless, their earlier posturing still gave us a legitimate reason for war. Why didn't we use it? Well, at the end of the day, Nordreich believes that it is wrong to kick someone when they are down. There is no honor in it. Have we done it in the past? Most assuredly, yes. The ICP Reformation War comes to mind. However, we have also been on the receiving end of that kind of treatment and have learned an important lesson from it. There is no honor in going to war merely because one can. Of the current group attacking Pacifica, only FAN has a legitimate claim with respect to dishing out some kind of revenge. The others? They have simply become what they once swore to destroy. Doomhouse have manipulated their allies, using them as cannon fodder in a war that was never anything more than a distraction. I don't know how many of their allies were 'in on it'. Perhaps we will never know. But I imagine that there are plenty of nation leaders out there, both high-ranking and low, who do not appreciate being smashed to bits in order to provide an amusing sideshow.

This was has been a set-up from the very beginning. From Day One anyone with a bit of commonsense could see that the NPO was the ultimate target. The real question is: how many alliances were in on it? I can't imagine that every alliance fighting against the NpO knew about this. I wonder how they feel knowing that their efforts so far have merely been a distraction from the real war; that they have merely been pawns in a game they didn't know they were playing.

I'm reminded of a child that asks for a particular toy or game for Christmas. They wait in eager anticipation of the mere hope of getting it on Christmas morning. The blessed day arrives, and they unwrap a gift to find they have been given exactly what they asked for. Later, they try to use the toy, and discover that aren't as good at it as they'd hoped to be. So they smash it to pieces and try to excuse their behavior by saying that they "never really wanted it" in the first place.

We were merely giving notice. If someone had said "You reform and it will mean war" then we would have held off on our reformation until a protector was found. Instead, we did not seek out a protector until it became clear that The International -- whose OPSEC was certainly lacking at the time -- began conspiring against us. Very soon after that, Comrade Craig (he was in INT's government at the time, but I'm not sure of his title) looked me up on IRC and congratulated me on our 'excellent timing' or something like that. But as our Kronprinz has pointed out, this is irrelevant to the matter at hand. I think we've made our objections quite well known, and I see no reason to continue a back-and-forth that serves no purpose.
