  1. o/ TLR Ave Legio! May your days be long and your hardships few. Good luck!
  2. As I see things, it is preemptive striking. The rest of your alliance has been aiding you in your own aggression against us and just because two members haven't yet, doesn't mean they wouldn't. They are as legitimate of a threat as anyone else. If you would have just stood on your own and dealt with the consequences of your own actions, you wouldn't have dragged anyone else into this conflict - current and preemptive targets aside.
  3. Unless you are in some really hot water, most alliances are fine with it. A couple people will be sad, sure, but they get over it and remember to just be a friend to them if you leave on good terms. I would say some of my best friends here were in my first alliance way back before I rerolled.
  4. They have been around for about six months now Good luck on the new government! I wish you guys the best
  5. It is a sad state of affairs to see you guys go. Good luck with your individual adventures in the future!
  6. Congrats Quantum. I hope to see many more milestones from you
  7. There is a pretty simple solution to failing direct democracies - show some interest in the membership. This is known as the Hawthorne Effect. When interest is shown in the work of people, the productivity goes up. The moment that interest is no longer shown, productivity immediately slumps. Get your membership base to feel like the work they do is important and keep a steady eye and I am certain things will improve greatly. It's not the direct democracy that fails, it is when the general body fails to show that the efforts made by individuals matter. I am certain that by alienating the long standing member in your OP, you have made him feel unappreciated, thus, hindering the direct democracy. You felt appreciated for your efforts, therefor you were more productive in it. When you have the ability to keep alienating members, people will feel that if they don't show productivity, they won't get alienated. So from what I read in the OP, it isn't the direct democracy's failure, it was the fact that one individual had a good deal of unofficial power thus striking intimidation in the membership which ultimately hindered productivity.
  8. Yay for both parties. This is a beautiful friendship which has gotten more beautiful.
  9. It's sad to see things not working out - especially when you invest so much time into it. You will find a good home with CSN
  10. Congrats Quantum and Legion - two great people being friends. What more could the world want?
  11. Congrats on the recovery. I personally know how hard it can be to recover when a large nation leaves. I look forward to hearing about the future for you guys.
  12. Congrats to the Paladins of Freedom. You have yourself a very great MoD. I just hope his job is peaceful for the time being Glad to see things are working out.
  13. Congrats Rok and Happy Birthday. I like seeing news like this
  14. Ahh, I missed the fact that they didn't wait for the deadline. My fault. However, who are we to step in on the sovereignty of how alliances handle their own internal affairs issues? Honestly, whining to me about something isn't going to get my sympathy when this can obviously be handled behind the curtain. Bringing this up to the world is basically saying "I can't handle my own issues like a Big Kid, can someone take care of the bullies for me?" I prefer to see some autonomy and personal initiative in a person when they are dealing with an issue like this. If they could brandish some evidence other than whining which shows their autonomy and initiative, then I would be more sympathetic.
  15. I really like this essay, Vilien. It is well written and I found myself believing it. However, moralism is nice and convenient when everyone is doing it. However, I would like to pull something from your essay. When I read this, I immediately thought about the Pre-Karma War way of handling things. Those times were darker, indeed, and people were not given their Western-Moralist rights. However, I want to analyse this and look at what happened DURING the Karma War. When things were looking grim for the Hegemony, a few choice groups immediately jumped ship and joined the popular opinion in striking down what they thought was wrong. That, as the majority can agree, was the morally right thing to do. However, what about the Pacificans who stood their ground? Was it morally wrong for them to cling to their ideologies which got them in trouble while they faced the same punishment they dolled out on to other people? I don't have answers for any of this because moralism is the epitome of philosophical ambiguity. What one person thinks is right, another will think is wrong. When one group's freedoms and liberties are being infringed, it is to preserve the freedoms and liberties of another group. Who is to say which group is right and which group is wrong?
  16. From what I see, you disrespected SoL's creed by saying something offensive in your bio so they gave you fair warning to get off their AA. Then, they launched attacks against a member who was ultimately ghosting their AA in order to encourage them to leave. You are complaining about their attacks, yet you still keep their AA up. I wonder how this can be solved? Honestly, complaining on the OWF about your alliance's policies of dealing with you as punishment, in my opinion, will not get sympathy from other people and other alliances. In fact, I would be less willing to accept you in an alliance after reading about your belligerence towards alliance policy. All I can say is o/ SoL and their decisions.
