1. Let's not kid ourselves, it is similar. The similar bit is that you like rebranding/relaunching new alliances from the ashes of old ones. Nothing wrong with that, it's how you do it that counts... and how you treat those that disagree with you. Now I haven't seen any sign that you've made the same mistake as before, because no-one from BFF appears to be kicking off that you don't represent them, so it only seems fair to give you the benefit of the doubt that you've done it right this time, however they are strong similarities between this and before and making out otherwise is silly and unbecoming of you.
2. Well said. Thankfully (despite what is sometimes suggested), there is a whole range of different attitudes, styles and systems of governments throughout this worlds various alliances. I think the key is finding the right one for you.
3. Yep, deja vu. Hopefully this time Chax remembered it's a good idea to get the alliance all on board before doing it. Haven't got messaged by any angry ex-alliance partners this time so maybe we're in luck :P Good luck LPH.
4. Not inactive, just away last night. I'll respond shortly. :)
5. That's exactly right. I find the cultures between CN alliances are actually wildly more varied than an outsider judging CN from the OWF would think. The OWF has developed it's own cultural norms and faux pas, which some alliances fit in with better than others. Unfortunately the alliances that don't fit in tend to shy away from the OWF, exactly because of the problems you mention and that creates a feed-back loop of enforcing a given set of standards and puts pressure on people to conform. However all is not lost, because away from the pressure cooker of the OWF, alliances thrive under the radar and successfully manage to do their own thing.
6. It's on! :P To those on all sides that are going to get blown up to smithereens, I salute you.
7. Alliances don't have to owe anything to the game, other than perhaps their members enjoyment. I think there is a tendency to judge the "worth" of an alliance solely down to political impact and/or political competence. But outside the OWF elites, a substantial numbers of players aren't involved with the politics of the game, often out of choice. So they value the worth of an alliance based on different criteria from what you find here. Maybe they just like the people, maybe their real-world friends are already involved, heck, maybe they just like the name, theme or the alliance's flag. I don't think the reasons behind why actually matters, because the important thing is that they've already voted with their feet by joining the alliance in the first place. So the alliance system is really self-policing. If no one wants to join then they won't and the alliance will fail. If people don't like the alliance they're in then they inevitably leave. Of course apathy is a major factor at both alliance and nation level, I can think of a number of zombie alliances in which it's more serious than they're not doing anything politically (they're not doing anything at all!) That's a bit sad, because I can't imagine how you'd have much fun being a member of said zombie alliance other than just being a way to deter tech raiders.
8. Lol. Different, enjoy whatever it is that you're up to.
9. Because they didn't want to? We don't want to start dictating what people call themselves. After the UCN debacle that'd be a tad hypocritical.
10. Good luck, glad to see you've decided against disbanding :)
11.
Non Grata and UPN? o_O I really don't know Non Grata, but UPN always been cool, so this should be a cool treaty, if not an interesting one.
Sippy
12.
To Sentinel, UPN in particular, MCXA and The Legion: You guys were good sparring partners. Sorry for the animosity between us, OOC I've always thought you were a pretty cool bunch. IC I hated you (Sentinel) but that's the game, ya know? And despite my best efforts I couldn't make you all lose heart. Damn you.
You too. Throughout the majority of CN's existance we've been either working for or against each other and it's been huge fun. CDT, CDT fallout, Peggygate, Sentinel vs. BFF, we've shared so many eras that have defined our alliances that you became a major part of the game for me.Thanks for the good times...and the bad times (which were actually good ) Glad to hear you're staying. If we didn't lose heart, neither should you! Heh, OOC let's either be massive friends or massive enemies again because it'll keep us both entertained. One last thing, I never did hate you guys. In fact I adore you. Whatever your name, CNE, TCW, CoN, UCN, Europa, BFF etc. you were always the snugglebunnies to me
13.
BEEN DECIDED BY WHO??, LOL
Wow, the deja vu So you're planning on keeping BFF running Wolfprince?
14.
They're an alliance period. They want to be a collective together and are doing so. Who are any of you to say they can't be an alliance? Does ARES existence really bother you? No they're simply going on about their existence and RIA is being like a bigger brother to watch over them to ensure their survival. I applaud RIA for being kind where others clearly have no mercy.
Well said.
15.
BFF disbanded, mission complete Chax, you may return to the DuckNest.
I laughed
16.
Not sure what I'm gonna do. There's a part of me wondering if any of the old Wolfpack might be interested in returning...
I'd love to see that. Just like FEAR (who it's great to see back), Wolfpack was a great alliance and could be again.
17. I'm dying to say I told you so. Good luck to all of BFF former members.
18. Best of luck to you Sniper Joe in sorting all this out. Also to the BFF in general. To those feeling that they need more information, I don't want to start pulling "private channels for the win" memes (because that's annoying), but for your own enquiries, would it not be better to contact the relevant bodies in private? As clearly not every detail is going to be posted on this thread.
19.
Not that I am surprised, but still I cannot believe it actually happens to us. I remembered when I was in NEW leadership and BFF told us (actually it is Europa told FEAR and FEAR told us) that they intentionally treaty to both UPN and GOONS which are on opposite side just so that they can choose the winning side when a war break.
That is interesting to say the least. Could you expand?
20. This really is like old times. Honestly, if you're going to have an MADP with anyone you should make damn sure that you're on the same wavelength. Otherwise you'll get burnt. Also, in response to earlier comments on this thread... No one has the ability to disband UPN. It just simply cannot be done. Take that as you will.
21. 06 to 07 Confederation of Orange Nations left to form the... 07 to now United Purple Nations
22.
I do beleive Mogar had his sarcasm font up for that one mate
Fair enough.
23.
OOC stalking is acceptable if you tell them anything about your RL, it isnt like it's common practice to share your cell phone number with other gov members if you're also gov or anything.
Why is it acceptable? Wouldn't CN be a better game for having nothing to do with RL?
24.
/good times
Ah, so true. I never had as much fun on Planet Bob as those early days of CDT, although the bloc did have some pretty wild adventures throughout its existence. Terry Howard and other alliance, bloc or ideology leaders opposed to us were as much part of that fun as any of CDT's actual members; so I guess we should thank them... and he was fun. Somehow it'd be nice to recreate that old world of byzantine manoeuvrings and squabbles, but Planet Bob's moved on. Not for the worse necessarily, but it's just more direct and in your face, ever since the Karma War. I guess the real winner was actually the Vox Populi ideology after all, because despite my reservations they did actually (to a certain extent) change the nature of inter-alliance relations. Trouble is I'm not sure I like it. Everything is so very unsubtle now, agenda more obvious. Against that, it's all very well for myself and others to criticise, but maybe this new world is easier to get into and less confusing. Don't really know. Anyway. Anu, here is to the good times!
