  1. My apologies if our rather combative exchanges in any way exacerbated this.

But I will say this. While it's fairly evident that depression has a genetic component, an environmental component, and can occur after trauma, you do need to approach it as an episode of "what can I do to make my life better" - some of which may be a change in environment. But moreover you have to think long and hard about why you are in the rut you are in now, and what you can personally do to make it better.

I know you're not going to fully agree with this, but entertain me for a second. I would say that the ideologies you have attached yourself to is not good for you at all, and may make your depression worse. Obviously you became attracted to it by what you were feeling yourself, but I think you have made your own state of mind worse by accepting its conclusions. If you think of everything as systemic, everything is already set in motion and you are just a small mouse within it - why do anything to change yourself if it's all structural? This kind of determinism is akin to being fatalistic. Here's the definition of wikipedia:

"Fatalism generally refers to any of the following ideas:

1.The view that we are powerless to do anything other than what we actually do. Included in this is that man has no power to influence the future, or indeed, his own actions. This belief is very similar to predeterminism.
    2. An attitude of resignation in the face of some future event or events which are thought to be inevitable. Friedrich Nietzsche named this idea with "Turkish fatalism" in his book The Wanderer and His Shadow.
    3. That acceptance is appropriate, rather than resistance against inevitability. This belief is very similar to defeatism."
Either way, the best way forward for your own mindset would be to think about what can you do to make a positive impact. How can you be productive? What makes you happy? What is a realistic way forward, step-by-step? Hang out with friends (positive ones, not one who bring you down).
Moreover I think some of the messages you're listening to from your broad "Social Justice" ideologies are themselves coming from people with mental illnesses, whether that be people who are depressed, bipolar, or who have some kind of personality disorder like Narcissism PD or Borderline PD. Even if they're not, they are almost certain to contain very negativistic, very bleak, very dire views of the world. You really need to focus on more positive messages, or at the very least realistic ones. I'd slowly divest yourself from whatever sources of information that have these tendencies, and move to ones that tend to make you happier and more enlightened. I had to do that myself as I started to figure out that the progressive messages on places like dailykos were unbearably negativistic and whiny, as well as even entertaining the doomsday rhetoric from the exact opposite side of the spectrum - Austrian hyper-individualists (thanks, brother & sister-in-law!).
Anyways, take care, get lots of sleep, start execising and building muscle, and start hitting on women (in person or online). That should also make you feel much, much better - make you more attractive and more confident. Good luck, you can pull through.
  2. If we(NEW) drag this conflict long enough into an war of attrition, I say we have fair chance of winning. Nor doesn't seem to be a bad military alliance though, and war with them sure seem to be a lot of fun.Sometime in the future then perhaps ?

This is a very bad hypothetical. You should both instead fight together against SF or Fark :awesome:

  3. You might want to catch up on the history between NSO and SF, because we've hated them before it was popular.
My remark was aimed at RV, not NSO, but your response raises another point: RV's moralism (for want of a better word) has previously been a distinguishing characteristic of his posts, and one associated with NSO (including via The Moldavi Doctrine). More recently, however, it seems that he is more interested in using his moralist platform as a justification for prosecuting old grudges, which is really no different to all the other posters out there, or to other alliances (particularly Xiph and GOD, ironically).

It's also not like this isn't anything new RV has done. Do you recall RV's thread several months back: "Why is SuperFriends so terrible?". Yeah. RV along with the rest of NSO have thought that SuperFriends are terrible for a long time running now. So yeah. SF deserves to be rolled.

And yeah, it does seem though like you guys have turned against us after the Legion stuff, but c'est la vie.

  4. I got closest to the Bloc, but I sympathize with and root for the NDP and to a lesser extent with the Libs in Tory-Grit marginals. I'd be an ABC if I was a Canadian (Anyone-But-Conservative)

I think those questions about rating the parties/party leaders/trustworthyness is really retarded, considering you're supposed to find out based on the ISSUES where you stand.

  5. Wisconsin is a solid team, but the really rely on scoring from two players. And they play limited possession basketball. Now, to be fair, they're extremely efficient because Taylor is really good. BUT, if Taylor isn't good, they're in a heap of trouble. As noted above, Ohio State torched Wisky in the final game of the regular season, but the other thing of note in that game was Craft putting the clamps on Taylor. That's the key. Shelvin Mack against Jordan Taylor is the game. And Butler defends the high ball screens really well (because they are so well-coached -- Stevens, IMO, is a top 3, if not the best, coach in the land). That said, Wisconsin does stretch the floor nicely with their bigs, so they can get some points that way, but I think it's still Taylor v. Mack. On the other end, Butler runs a nice halfcourt set, but their shooting is inconsistent. It can come from a lot of places, but Mack/Howard are really the only two guys who can create their shot. This one is played under 120, IMO. And in a tight game in the 50s, I'd be nervous playing Butler.

That's my take! WooOOT! And, FTR, I'm a Buckeye.

Craft did a heckuva job against Taylor in that last game, but Ohio St. played in such a way that no team in the nation could've come close to beating them like that. Shooting 68%, including 93% from 3. I feel like that game should be completely washed in any comparison. That said, I think our main vulnerability is having a star player and team getting really streaky and raining down 3s (à la Cornell, Davidson, or the Diebler/Buford/Lighty combo), so it could be if Howard/Mack play brilliantly. It'll be close, and Butler has had some nice wins in the season, but they've also had some dog-awful losses. And while their win against Pitt cannot be discounted... it is Pitt afterall, one of the biggest chokers of recent NCAA history.

I still think Ohio St. is championship bound.

  6. I don't think Wisconsin is all that good, to be honest. That and it is hard to pick against Butler at this point. ;)

Ehh, Wisconsin has 2 NBA-bound players (including arguably the best POINT guard in the nation, granted he had a !@#$%* game against KSU), are #1 in the nation in fewest turnovers and are #1 in the nation in FT %. Yes they play slower, and boy do I know how they choke come tournament time, but meh. They are still only of two teams to have beaten the best Team in the nation, Ohio St.

Now, if Butler is able to shoot from the 3 like crazy (like the 14 of 15 Ohio st. shot against us in the last match-up), they can win, but even if one of our star players has an off-night, and one of their stars goes crazy, we can still win à la KSU ;)
