Right, I'm not going to get dragged into a sh!t-throwing competition... However, I will say this much: Echelon & GGA have been friends for a long time and that is a well known fact. Hegemony is in the past, so all the people who are hung up on the fact that 2 former allies and long time friends are re-formalizing their relationship should really learn to let things go. My advice to you guys would be this... Build a bridge and get it over it. The whole "OMG dey r Hegemony ppl" is old news.... as in really old news. As for this particular treaty... yes, it is an MDAP (shock, horror ). However, personally I don't really think there is an awful lot else which needs to be said on the matter. If both GGA and ourselves are comfortable signing an MDAP then I don't really think it is much of anyone else's business TBH. While I am fully aware of the reasoning behind people's skeptical view of MDAP's... I believe that so long as the 2 parties engaged in the treaty are fully committed to each other and are comfortable with their treaty status then I don't see why everyone else should get their knickers in a twist over it. Both Echelon & GGA are happy with this treaty so all the haters need to realize that no matter how much they insist on trolling the thread, it ain't going to change how we feel about our great allies or the dead sexy doctrine. One more thing.... there are quite a substantial number of posters on this forum who keep harping on about how Echelon and others have failed to 'change' or move in 'new directions' since the end of the Karma War. Well to these people I have this to say... grow up and get a life. Yes, the Echelon of today remains committed to some of the relationships which we had pre-Karma War. However this merely reflects the fact that we remain committed to the friends and allies who stood by us through the good times and the bad. Our government has changed a great deal, as has our membership... thus meaning that we now have a new outlook on many of our old relationships. Just because we've re-signed a treaty with an old ally & friend doesn't mean that we're reverting back to the modus operandi of the pre-Karma War era. We are committed to building a bigger, better, stronger Echelon... and if we believe that some of our old long standing allies have a role to play in that future then we will work to secure that. Everyone needs to rest sometime... 1. The following reparations will be paid by Echelon for instigating the war and the damage caused thereafter: 10,000 technology and three jars of jam to GOD 300 million and 7,500 technology (Aided in packages of 3m/50) to MA 10,000 technology to MK on behalf of GR 1,500 technology or money equivalent, at an exchange rate of 3 mil per 50 to Athens 5,000 technology to TTK 1 technology to R&R 1a. No Echelon nation under 1,000 tech will be allowed to pay reparations. 2. No nuclear weapons or navy vessels will be held by Echelon nations for a period of three months. Echelon nations must destroy all Satellites, Missile defense, Dry docks, Naval academy, Naval Construction Yard, Shipyards, Barracks and GC's. Nations who have the SDI wonder may keep the required satellites and missile defense for that wonder. 2b. No Echelon nation may send or accept secret foreign aid. 3. No external aid will be accepted by Echelon nations until the technology is paid off. 4. No external treaties will be signed by Echelon until the three month disarmament period is up. 5. With the exclusion of Vanguard, All Echelon treaties that mandate military or financial support are henceforth dissolved per this surrender. Protectorate agreements will remain but the responsibility of military protection of these alliances will be the responsibility of Global Order of Darkness, Monos Archein, Greenland Republic, Random Insanity Alliance, The Templar Knights, RnR, Ragnarok, and the Viridian Entente. 6. If any member of Echelon changes their Alliance Affiliation to that of one that Karma is at war with, their nation will immediately be open to attack. If a Director of Echelon changes their alliance affiliation to one at war with Karma, the alliance as a whole will be considered in violation. 7. Terms 2 must be fulfilled within a window of 72 hours from the posting of this surrender. 7a. During the 72 hours hours, wars along the front with Echelon will be in a state of cease-fire. If nations are not in compliance at the end of the grace period, hostilities with them will be reinstated until compliance. Notices will be sent to the nations in question informing them of their terms and the means to get peace. 8. Echelon admits that it started the war and that it was defeated soundly, and hereby surrenders to the collective might assembled. 9. Echelon will be under the protection of the Global Order of Darkness, Monos Archein, Greenland Republic, Random Insanity Alliance, The Templar Knights, RnR, Ragnarok, and the Viridian Entente until their three month disarmament expires. 9a. If Echelon is found to be attempting to extort, strong-arm, or otherwise threaten any alliance without sound cause for the period of their disarmament it will be considered an abuse of term nine and they will be burned to the ground without mercy. 10. Should Caffine1 rejoin Echelon he is permanently banned from holding any government position within the alliance. 11. Echelon must maintain a cute demeanor for the duration of these terms. Any change in demeanor from cute is grounds for the immediate resumption of hostilities. Refusal to comply with the above terms on a mass scale will result in continued warfare. I think you're a bit confused mate.... this CN, not some cyber-dating website. Anyone who thinks that CN is a place for chivalry and/or pleasantries has obviously not managed to grasp the general gist of the game yet. Especially when we consider some of the other jibes which have been thrown around the forums in the past few weeks.

One thing that needs clarification here Suf.... Echelon cancelled a bi-lateral treaty with NPO. However we never cancelled our multi-lateral 1V treaty (of which NPO is a signatory). So to say that we cancelled a treaty and then pulled a U-turn is to tell a lie. We cancelled one treaty and then proceeded to honour another. Although I do accept that fact could have been communicated a lot more effectively. Who's running where? Cause it ain't Echelon.... that's for sure.

I can understand why you may have wanted to leave, yes... However, I know that if I was in such a position I would have stayed in the alliance of whom I was a member until after the war was done and dusted. If you didn't want to fight you didn't have to... nobody was going to force you to. As you said yourself, the gov directive was for any nations not interested in fighting the war to go into peace mode for their own sake. Leaving an alliance after a DoW is just not an honourable thing to do... I'm sorry, that's just how I view it. Having said that... it's better to have would-be deserters out of the alliance rather than have them hiding in our ranks and being potential spies. And this has nothing to do with any of the MAD members as individuals... I'd be saying the same thing no matter who the members were or who the alliance they left was. Simple as.

Well then in all fairness Cirrus... if the announcement was written yesterday why not post it yesterday? Rather 1.15 pm (GMT) today... More than 6 hours after the Echelon DoW was posted? Can you not see where people are coming from with their criticism?

Just to clarify something here... the first thing anyone in Echelon heard about this desertion was about 6 hours after our DoW was posted. There was no leaving just before the war... this was in bello desertion, plain and simple.
