  1. We should be more careful about these in the future, just one announcement from the IAA or GATO already contains high levels of awesome, combining two together threatens the careful balance of nature. <3 IAA! Congrats to everybody!
  2. I suggested the Terry Accords in honor of those wonderful desserts, but nobody listens to me Hooray for the ODN though! We're all pleased as punch to call you friends and look forward to many moons of whacking our chocolate oranges with you!
  3. The medals couldn't go to more deserving people, <3 them all. Cheers to GATO, for the past and the future!
  4. People seem to assume that signing a PIAT is on par with pledging eternal fealty, the way it's talked about so frequently. Yes, we signed a Peace, Intelligence, and Aid Treaty. We've agreed not to attack each other again in the forseeable future, not to troll, and to sell technology at favorable prices in certain circumstances. These treaties are signed almost every day, and in fact, some go unannounced because they are considered so trivial. I fail to see how GATO and NPO signing such a treaty counts as having our freedom still impinged upon, or as us running back into the arms of our abusive oppressors. If you could explain why our PIAT is so different from every other PIAT, I would be grateful. In my biased opinion, people are simply used to seeing GATO act one way, and that's the post-PWII through 1V War GATO. That GATO existed for a long time and particularly since we went completely off the map during the occupation, it's what is cemented in people's minds. They assumed that the GATO they supported in their signatures was still exactly the same. I'm proud to say that we aren't that GATO any longer, and instead of looking back upon our more recent history, I hope that we are reflecting our earliest history. In those times we were universally considered a respected alliance, not just because of our power in terms of nation strength, but in our measured words and honor. I think that that is the form GATO is trying to regain, and as an insider, I believe that we will regain that form. But as I said, that's not the GATO people were expecting, and those failed expectations lead people to assume we aren't free, which is incredibly sad.
  5. Three years of democracy flushed. Ah well. Enjoy the war.
  6. Hooray GATO! With this sort of government everything is looking up!
  7. I didn't read any of this thread, nor will I read any reply. But seeing Pezstar's name with the subtitle 'of honor' made me lol. I hope there's some people who remember why.
  8. I'm less worried about those who 'fought' for us than those who continue to fight for us. I figured that most of the 'Free GATO!' crowd were fairweather friends (though that term seems wrong when they were friends during the viceroyalty and not afterwards), and this thread has only proved it. They wanted one thing out of GATO, and now that is gone, so their interest in us is gone. In the future I hope our alliance becomes closer with the people that actually care about GATO, instead of those who care only as long as it serves their purpose. And of course we'll never forget about Cata, the CVF, the IAA, and all the others who actually stood with us during our time of need. As the dude in charge of education in GATO, I plan on making sure of that.
  9. I can assure you that there was nothing forced here and that NPO-GATO relations have been amiable. This PIAT is just the solidification of a friendship that began to grow through the occupation. You weren't there in GATO, you didn't see them importing experts to help our alliance, didn't see NPO members sacrificing their time and effort for an alliance they weren't a part of, didn't see them giving us the space we needed to be ourselves. This says that in spite of everything, we've found common ground and hope that we can build on it in the future. [sarcasm]However, the secret one-way MDP they forced us to sign was definitely despotic.[/sarcasm]
  10. I'd talk to you more often LP, but I don't get on IRC very often at all, and when I do it's usually 15-20 minutes between class to take care of something in specific. School's keeping me too busy. Sorry though. It's not, as Vir suggested, because you bailed. I honestly have no idea what he's talking about and always considered you a first-rate player in this game. Oh, and Halicore wins the thread. Not for anything he said, just because that's by far the greatest signature I've ever seen on the internet. o/ Red Dwarf! o/ Rimmer! But seriously, this debate is stupid. Atlantis was a glorious old ship that sadly followed her namesake, and as opinionated as I am on the subject, am not keen on digging up the rusty pieces to win some debate on the internet. Atlantis deserves more than that, and I hope that this thread can just be for shoutouts and good memories.
  11. GATO Feb 2006 - October 06 bunch of crap in between Atlantis Feb 2008 - October 08 (I think, I can't remember dates very well... from when Legion fell apart to when Atlantis fell apart) GATO October 09 - present
  12. I still exist. Went nuke rogue on Xenn or Psonami, I forget which one, and let my nation die. 8 months later or so I came back and joined GATO.
