1.
It would screw up the name everywhere (recent aid, trades, sanctions etc) as it is stored separately.
I could just cancel all my trades. Besides, nobody really cares about or looks at those things, anyway.
2. Well, if it is possible from a technical perspective, I see no reason not to allow it to be changed. I'm sure my nation can be accessed and edited by moderators/administrators, so I don't think a name change would prove a great difficulty. If there is some rule, perhaps I could be the one and only exception to it . . . please?
3. I have officially joined Exodus, but thank you all for your offers.
4. I was wondering if it would be possible to change my nation's name from "Mycenae" to "United States"? The nation name has finally opened up, but I do not want to delete my nation and start over with another one, so perhaps my current nation's name could be changed. I'm sure there must be something that an administrator can do to alter national specifics. Could I please be allowed the change?
5. Hello, I am looking for a new alliance. Before I discuss my requirements (I'll get to those), I should offer my qualifications. I am an experienced player who has operated several nations (and a few alliances) since the founding of Cyber Nations and I've been around long enough to see the rise of GATO and to recall some of the earliest wars involving the NPO. I have used this experience to my advantage and have become a formidable adversary in combat who has served in many wars. I am pragmatic with money and have used patience and hard-won good sense to build Mycenae to its current success. I can give a lot to my friends. Now... These are the things I want from an alliance, in order of importance: 1) Military Sensibility. I will fight for you (and I will kick major ass), but please don't go around starting stupid wars. I like building my nation into an economic powerhouse more than fighting on the battlefied. I reserve the right to have nukes. 2) Good Trades. My resources are comparatively worthless (Pigs and Water), but I still want a nuclear-capable, industrial nation that sports Construction, Asphalt, Microchips -- the works. If you can help me work toward that, I'll be your friend for life. 3) A Laid-Back Community. I will sign up for your forums, but I might not sign in every day. If you need me to take on a government position, I will gladly serve, but I do not have much time for ubiquitous roll calls and post quotas. 4) Economic Freedom. I want to build my nation the way I want it to be built. That's all I ask. I don't care about the size of your alliance or its Team color (I will gladly change mine), only its ability to provide the above. Can someone help me? Please? Thanks for reading this! Sincerely, Achilleus
6. No, the official ending date is 404 BC, when the Spartans laid siege to, occuppied, and ravaged Athens. Hostilities went beyond this date, but they are generally not considered part of the official Peloponnesian War. You can read about these things in Zenophon's Hellenica. The Sparans did indeed occupy Athens. They installed their own government which was embodied by the Thirty Tyrants (again, Zenophon). No one is saying that Athens ceased to exist. I'm pretty well-versed in the details of this stuff, so if questions arise, we can hammer them out reasonably. Anybody taken to the idea of the RP, though?
7. This story starts around 430 BC, just before the outbreak of the war between the Athenians and the Spartans. It's mainly for political and military strategy and the causes of our war will be the same as the causes of the actual war (Athenian aggression throughout the region and Spartan paranoia), but we can spin it in our own direction after 431 BC. We can decide how far-flung and how lasting this thing will be -- it doesn't have to end with the burning of Athens in 404, but however we want it to end. No particular attention to historical detail is required, just maybe a few major characters (Alcibiades, Agis, Cimon, Perikles, etc.) and definitely some geography. Other than that, I think it would be best played as an open-ended free-for-all. To sign up for this, put your information in the following way: Feel free to have two characters, but please keep them both on the same side (Athenian or Spartan), unless one of them is going to get bumped off. In that case, you can have one from each side. EDIT: I did RP very well a long time ago, but this is my first foray into the new rules of Fantasy RP. If you have any suggestions or corrections as to what gets posted where, etc., I'm always all-ears.
8. Achilleus is the anglicised spelling of the Greek word Akkilleus (a transliteration); when translated into English, it is Achilles. Mycenae was an ancient empire in Hellas, the second to dominate the Cyclades and the immediate successor of the Cretan empire. It fell at the end of the Greek Dark Age. Although Achilles wasn't born in Mycenae (he was born in Thessaly), he spent his life fighting for that kingdom.
9. It's pretty annoying to see people get shot down just because they're in a small group. The big alliances now were at one point in the past very small.
10. 6. Achilleus of Mycenae: a bundle of awesome wrapped up in more awesome and smothered in pie. 5. Megas Alexandros of Macedonia: founder of the ill-fated and short-lived Macedonian Empire 4. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana: founder of the ill-fated and short-lived African Union 3. Nelson Mandela of South Africa: founder of the ill-fated and short-lived South African Trade Union 2. Napoleon IV of Napoleonic France: founder of the ill-fated and short-lived Napoleonic Empire 1. Something I don't remember: founder of something ill-fated and short-lived that I don't remember
11. Let's just hope for another giant war.
12. Last post from me on this issue: No, I have been around quite long enough (with other nations) and I've seen what's happened before and I know exactly of what you speak. I don't think it's glorious -- just inevitable and straightforward. It is only my opinion, if I've failed to make that clear thus far.
13. What?! What??!!? Ahaha! I am going over every - single - word of this thread when I'm done with my class.
14. Well, I can't download IRC on these campus computers, so I take it all back. B)
15. But that was the Evil Empire, and they don't count . . . Something always has to happen to the Evil Empire, but it doesn't mean they won't get back on their feet.
16. Yes, but that's only with the proviso that morality itself is something that is used to justify the guilt.
17. No one is responsible for blind luck or for there being any lack of opportunists. Though you say "better days," I say "lucky breaks." If you don't do some basic things for your own self-preservation, you deserve what you get, up to and including another alliance handing you your Darwin Award on a silver platter. I never thought I'd see the day when intelligent moves were ridiculed and reproached with -- oh, wait. . . . That happens every day on the forums! It's incredibly poor, but you can't say why? Interesting.
18. Obviously. Do what you need to do to survive and if you can't, you don't. I notice it's only people who don't watch out for themselves that start jumping on the "fair play" bandwagon. People who have taken care of themselves don't need to whine and beg for public sympathy.
19. Information index lists it with the other teams, yet before doing so states that there are only twelve teams. Because of these two contradictory assertions on the part of the Creator, I think I have just as much grounds to assert that there is a thirteenth team as do others who support the other part of the paradox which says that there are only twelve.
20. Don't know why Grey shouldn't be here, they're a part of things as well.
21. That depends. Is your leadership so dumb that they have failed to acquire a protecting alliance, just like the Knights of Ni? If so, then you deserve to be attacked four ways from Sunday (or however that goes ...); otherwise, people will stay away from you and not because of some silly self-righteous moralizing about tech raiding (or any other intelligent, self-advancing activity), but simply because they'll get beaten up.
22. If I were to personally cover his debt, would that be satisfactory, or would you still require that he join an alliance first?
23. And the streets should be paved with gold, pigs should fly, etc.
