1. inb4 methrage & friends spend another 10 years getting drone striked
2. some people think the point of a game is to have fun and not try so hard. other people think the point of a game is to win. over time, the people who treated the game like a job, the people who donated a lot, and the people who are in neutral alliances (were smart enough not to fight when it isn't advantageous) rose to the top. and the rest of us are permanently cut off. just like real life: the people who treat people with respect and don't take things too seriously stay at the bottom, whereas the cut-throat !@#$%^& tend to rise to the top, even though after a while, the top becomes inaccessible no matter how good you are. people got want they wanted: everything is serious, cold, calculated, and minmaxed to perfection. the real game exists in irc channels and skype groups but i'd be surprised to find out that any really serious politicking is even going on anymore. who actually gives a $%&@ about this !@#$ anymore to keep trying?
3. ic: what ooc: i doubt it has anything to do with y'all tbh
4. do this but make it as a tournament edition round so we can still keep playing cn standard
5. a combination of nostalgia (played it as a kid) and knowing people who are still here plus i hate myself (see: i post in the boiler room from time to time)
6. i think intelligence is probably the #1 thing making players not play CN anymore after making a nation why is it that we always assume that we're the ones in the right and that we need to get people to start playing? maybe we should be facing the music and leaving along with them
7. calling this a "war" in and of itself is a form of self-aggrandizement on your part
8. it made no sense for NSO to get involved because a currently low-ranking IA gov member wasn't paying attention to what happened
9. i still have no idea why this war started in the first place and i don't really care
10. I love all of this data. The biggest thing Admin could do to "save" the game is make it more graphical; that is, actually give us some game to work with, rather than just text on a screen. There have been plenty of competing simulators that have tried and failed because, at the end of the day, CN is sort of like the WoW of its genre. The one game with staying power that sorta got everything right. But it's been almost a decade since 2006 and anybody who wants to can play much better games in similar genres. I run EU4, Vicky 2, and CK2 all on a laptop without a dedicated graphics card. I can also play MMOs, which have historically had worse graphics, specifically to widen the userbase and allow more casual/impoverished/less-computer-savvy people to play. So if I can get my political fix and my people fix elsewhere, running garbage hardware, why WOULD you stay here except for the community, which is dwindling pretty rapidly? Especially when the majority of playing the game is sitting on IRC and going through spreadsheets, clicking buttons to see text come up on a screen. It's just outdated as $%&@ and it was already a low-tech sort of game to begin with. Just making it a !@#$@#$ flash game or using Java or something to make it a bit interactive would go bounds and leaps as far as getting people to stick around. It wouldn't even have to be mandatory - it could be optional to use the new interface, like how Runescape did when they upgraded all of their graphics. There are ways to fix things and keep things interesting, but part of me feels like part of the reason Admin hasn't done !@#$ is because he's scared of screwing up the balance and killing the game. Well, the game is already on its way out, so you may as well either try something new with your knowledge, or experiment and see what you can do to make things work. But text-based games have risen and fallen and there are a ton of other options not quite like this but enough like this to make playing this game not worth it. I mean even !@#$@#$ clash of clans is graphical, can be played on your phone, and has a similar free to play but pay to win model. And I know a TON of people who play or have played every single game I've listed here. LEARN from them.
11. the real joke here is the idea that giving RV money and tech is some sort of punishment no doubt he will use it wisely and more just than you
12. lmao @ getting called out on the lie the first time and not even giving a fuck and just doing the same thing again but with a larger cap he's probably just doing it that way so things don't get too out of hand without him being notified first by people looking to raise it higher
13. stating the truth is not complaining there are plenty of people in the lower tier who are the type of people who go "fuck yeah, give me tons of money and let me bash on this guy who has nukes, this is fun!" and then other people aren't so keen on that and think that the fact that it can even happen is sort of stupid really, the first type is what we want anyway, but the truth is that a really bad experience right when your nation is small is often enough to make a leader just give up and find some other way to occupy their time. can't really blame them for it tbh
14. maybe we just don't care about you that much
15. then everyone apart from their allies were morons with a basic understanding of war mechanics it isn't difficult to sit in the lower tier after you've already lost and destroy noobs using your full set of wonders i did it for over a month when LSF warred Nordreich back in 2012 and i'm not going to sit and pretend i'm awesome for it because that's dumb i could easily do it again, to any alliance, if i felt like bothering to get a decent warchest and then go rogue on people who i don't even know who have nothing it isn't even really a tactic so much as a way to drive new nations out of the world under auspices of fighting "bullies"
16. >Kashmir would be in much worse shape if you didn't bandwaggon in. >to concentrate on the moron who bandwagons in really late thinking it will magically cause them to win. first and foremost, i'm not sure you know what it means to "bandwagon", given the above lines us entering put pressure on MInc to surrender, it worked, and now they're better off with a protector in NpO, not having their pixels blown up you should get your lines straight. we were already winning and kashmir was getting sick of the !@#$%^&* so we did what friends do. it's happened before - i remember some of the PB alliances doing it to help GOONS... can't remember if that was you or not, though. e: now i remember that was kaskus. makes the entire reference useless but it is a similar situation where a group of people are hedging their bets on making it so annoying to just get them to say "i surrender" that they don't have to (as if a surrender is actually valuable, as if anything else will happen, as if we aren't just going to go our separate ways at the end) but now, you have every friend you've got stuck in the middle with you... yet again... but you'd find that if you were able to make friends who have pixels (because they aren't constantly bouncing from one crisis to the next and wasting all their money and tech on nothing), you might also be able to get out of these sticky situations by using "power projection" to force people to do what they otherwise wouldn't it works. it did work. it will continue to work. you're just doing it wrong, man.
17. it isn't like we're trying to humiliate you or something, although that was a hilarious thing for you to say there's a difference between being willing to fight on out of principle and fighting on "out of principle" on EVERYTHING because you can't man up and admit that you have less power projection than multiple alliances it isn't like we can't see it it isn't like we don't know how things are going to end "i am not as strong as 100+ nations and so i lost" - wow, how awful like if you put all of that determination and energy and willing to wrap your head around itself in order to justify nonsense into actually doing something useful, you could be a decent government member in an actually functioning alliance. and also benefit from being around people who will make you surrender when it's time to shut up and move on. you are your own worst enemy
18. "trying to screw me into needing to surrender" what what do you even understand what war IS LOL jesus fucking christ no we should aid you so you can keep fighting and that way you won't have to surrender hahahahahahahaha that was just rude i mean i haven't had a single war - offensive or defensive - the entire time, and what i have to say is pretty important, so
19. the only conditions i'm aware of were "don't aid methrage while he's at war with us" if they can stop it, no alliance will tolerate people helping their enemies, monetarily or otherwise honestly i would be completely in favor of just a white peace and move on, but i'm also not really privy to what actually started things in the first place i just don't feel like yet again warring you forever because of something that doesn't really matter so i'm trying to be a negotiator
20. are you talking about sigrun or monsters inc because when monsters inc peaced out i specifically remember joe ordering us to peace out with everyone, with sigrun mentioned specifically like have you ever considered that maybe it isn't entirely us but that you are partially to blame for the fact that you keep getting rolled for no reason
21. we've all known that nordreich has been barely active for years now - that's what we thought of you back when LSF "rogues, what rogues?"-d you back in 2012 the real news here is that kingzog is no longer a nordlander sympathizer give him a few weeks and he'll be talking with Q to make INT a fully functioning alliance again
22. as a white man who rules a white nation on the white sphere which imports tech i am thoroughly against disrupting the free market in any way that isn't subsidizing my growth also somebody better get me an oil trade before i get angry and start colonizing again --- lmao this thread is 26 pages long
