  1. ps also most higher species (including all other ape species but especially especially our closest relatives the chimps) exhibit rampant bisexual behavior.  it turns out, that in highly social species, where social bonds are necessary for survival, sex is a very useful social bonding tool.  which literally means that being gay is not only perfectly natural, but an evolutionary survival advantage.

  2. Depression is when your anxiety and misery paralyzes you and you don't even get out of bed all day, except for very low level basic needs like food and bathroom. Often you are depressed for no discernible reason, or you play trivial matters over and over in your head and blow them out of proportion. Depression is not mere sadness at hard times, it is another beast altogether, that needs to be treated. I should know. I was treated, and I recovered.

Don't ever be afraid to seek help. Because it can lift you up and out of the pit of suffering and misery you are in. I know the pain and I know the darkness and how you can't see the light. I know what it is like to cry yourself to sleep every night, to collapse on the floor in a ball of tears. Medication takes the edge off, and therapy can help you learn how to manage it and deal with it, until eventually, it evaporates, and you can finally live again. If you want to get out of the pit, talk to a doctor.

Anyone who tells you it's not real is full of !@#$ and those voices should be discarded. It is real. But it need not be permanent - if you get help from professionals. There should be no shame in this. I'm not ashamed of the fact that I got help and recovered. In fact, it's become a rather important advocacy issue in my life, and I feel that if you're in that pit, you deserve to hear from someone who has actually been there.

  3. I don't know why the term "lulzist" is making the rounds again. It's inaccurate and stupid.

The so-called "lulzist" faction has two parts: DBDC and their ilk, bent on the destruction of everything and on the verge of permanently winning the game, and NPO and company, who think they're being smart by tagging along and getting a taste of power again, without a goddamn clue that they're next on the menu.

  4. I think rehabilitation should be a goal of the prison system, but I think you are wrong that prison is only meant to rehabilitate or protect citizens. The justice system is about punishment, plain and simple. In the beginning of law, back in the bronze age, there were only 3 punishments, fines, mutilation and execution. What nowadays you would go to prison for, back then they just took a piece from you, your hand, your leg, your eye, your balls. Anything more serious than that, they took your head. This was back in the day when this was the civilized part of society, if you were an enemy of the state they wouldn't just quietly lop your head off, oh no, if you were a rebel leader or something you were tortured to death and then dismembered and buried in different parts of the country.

I think the USA has no faith in the law anymore. Vigilante justice has been legalized in a lot of states (Stand Your Ground) in the belief that the justice system doesn't punish criminals, just locks them in "Convict University" where they learn to be better criminals, get recruited into gangs and get involved in more violent (and more profitable) crimes. The USA locks up more people in prison per capita than any country on earth including North Korea.

A whole lot of this. But you also have to take into account the Prison Industrial Complex we have here in the States (responsible for our insane incarceration rate). People aren't sent to jail to be rehabilitated. They're sent because private prison companies make money for every prisoner they house. They couldn't care less what the prisoners do in there, they just want more prisoners.

It's noble to speak of things like "rehabilitation," but that is so far removed from the reality of our prison state.

  5. I've heard of expiration dates on mall gift cards, but I've never even heard of the rest of those.

Many of these terms come with these sort of pseudo-credit-card gift cards. They can be used more places, but there's still restrictions. The only advantage is that you can use them as a credit card online, unlike cash. Which I suppose is only fair to note, they're useful if you want a disposable card to spend online.

  6. Mostly because NPO has been around the block more times than anyone else, and the assumption was that they knew what they were doing. They are also a very polarizing entity (and always will be), which makes them a good core around which to build a new power sphere.

And then they dicked everyone over, and opinions very rapidly changed. Being polarizing is a double edged sword, because although you're a good core to build around, people also won't soon forget you betraying them. How EQ ended was a mistake that is going to cost Pacifica for years to come.
