  1. If attacks have been authorized to continue despite Emily being reduced to zero-infrastructure that would constitute a sentence of permanent zero-infrastructure, would it not?

    If:

    • "Permanent" means "anything that lasts for more than a single instant",
    • "Zero" means "any little number", and
    • "(MHA issued/sanctioned) sentence" means "any imaginable rationale wildly deducted from any set of actions that can be traced back to MHA members, without the need to inquiry what was the communication inbetween, who sent and read the PMs, how and when, etc."

    Then you're correct.

  2. Rebel Virginia, your multiple attempts are clearly aimed at inciting an angered response from the MHA: what happened? You can behave better than that.

There are other people(1) here that are critic towards the MHA but that are trying to present their arguments with a minimum of civility, avoiding gratuitous insults... Can't you please do the same?

    (1) From what I read - not all the thread - I can cite and thank KingSqrt, Master-Debater, death2munkies...

  3. I was just wondering. Is someone from MHA gonna let me know when I get my fair trial? (or indeed any trial at all).

I don't want to air dirty laundry on the OWF, but would really appreciate the chance to put my side to the court. Thus far this has been denied me.

    Answer by PM is fine!

So has the head judge already sissued a summary judgement and sentenced her to ZI?

Technically, non-members also get a trial, as evidenced by Article III, Part Q of the Mostly Harmless Revolution. It's the part dealing with EXTERNAL crimes. Specifically mentions outside entities first strike nuking, non-members spying in game on MHA nations, etc etc. Seems to indicate pretty well that it would be a trial situation. I don't believe the trium has the authority to sentence anyone, only the head judge, even if it's merely a summary judgment of the facts.

I'm sure she's guilty and probably warrants the decision, just pointing out for all the people claiming she doesn't get a trial, that they are wrong. There is at least the pretense of a trial and the head judge has to sign off on the situation.

There was no formal trial for this case. In fact Article III, Part Q of the Third Revolution is included in the so called "Court and Precedent Guide" that does not ordinarily require a trial. The government collected the evidence and directly contacted the Ministry of Destructor Fleets to apply the punishment set by mentioned TR.III.Q. This has been for a long time the ordinary procedure for these and similar cases (e.g. the dealing with rogues attacking MHA members) and the MHA Court - that I hereby represent - fully confirms the legitimacy of this behaviour. It's a common procedure for extra-judiciary sentencing.

Non-members can indeed get a trial provided at least that they actually ask for one.

Emily never contacted the Chief Judge (read: me) and never presented her case. I wonder how she can claim that the trial had been "denied" to her.

(I apologize for not having answered earlier to this thread but I was simply completely unaware of its existence. I didn't read and I won't read the 15 pages of it.)

  4. If nations don't understand how the game is played, why join a political alliance and continue to play the game?

Rich333 already replied eloquently, I only add that it's quite egotistical of yours to disregard/classify as "worthless" any playing style other than your own.

In a healthy gaming community such an attitude shouldn't be allowed to discourage people from remaining. In fact, quite the opposite: who continuously displays your attitude is among the few that should be discouraged from remaining...

    [Edit]

I later reflected about this post of mine and I realized that its last sentence was probably very badly worded.

First, I was talking of the present attitude of SJ about "staying in the game with no political clue" only. I was certainly not talking of the general attitude of SJ in CN.

Second, with "should be discouraged from remaining" I was meaning (for the "worst cases") "should be talked about leaving" - I wasn't thinking of in-game repercussions, underhanded tactics or anything like that.

I finally hope that this (annoying) "clarification" doesn't come out more obscure than the original sentence...:D

    [/Edit]

  5. Forcing "hard to achieve" requirements ("90%"), wanting to take some satisfaction against every person you can put your hands on ("no PM") and trying to harm possibly even more who was actually prepared to hold his/her ground ("who pays"), while affecting another community's in-game life for several and several months, are all issues the NPO has been openly criticized for in the past - even when they were the most powerful and "everybody" was fearing them - but not by most of the people that find "just" the currently proposed terms. These last people in fact - IIRC - were silent all the time when not happily participating in said actions.

The circle of excessive "violence" at the expenses of months of (CN) fun for hundreds of players should be broken, sooner or later. Sadly, I don't think it will happen "sooner".

(There's a theory according to which most of the unknown "rank and file" people spend some time for the daily building of their nation and don't understand CN politics. In this theory these fellow players of ours realize - when their nations get severely destroyed - that so much of their precious time got wasted and they start to ask themselves for what reason they should spend any of it again.

Goodbye to the many that will leave the game this time, also.)

  6. I agree with you in that the explanation should have been in the OP instead of pulled out of that very strange conversation by people having to ask why a public apology was made. It's nice that the actual reason came out and thats good on you guys in MHA to own up to things, just please next time put the reason in the op so we dont have to read the silly conversation that ensues after such a minor announcement. :P

No no no: the point of it is to have an excuse to engage in silly conversations. What do we need serious minor announcements for, after all?

WTF? I'm pretty sure the ZI sentence lasted about 6 hours and we apologised at the time.

Luckily I am not the only one remembering that... At first I was worried that I turned up in some different universe from my own!

(That may still be true, anyway...)

  7. Pete McCavoy, this poll is much better than the other one and pretty well done, considering the board limitations.

Don't get too heated for some silly people's jokes: the forums are theirs also and it's their right to have fun according to their ways (and why give them that satisfaction, anyway?... ;) )

  8. The following are IMO among the most excellent people in CN - very rarely or never seen in anger or disdain:

    • (DAC)Syzygy
    • Antonio Salovega VI
    • Apriland
    • Emperor Fu
    • Kryievla
    • Machiabelly
    • Matt Miller
    • Meterman
    • Sword of Estel

(Most of the Mod Squad should be included in this list, take SoE as the paradigm of them all.)

    1. I am Pastafarian
    2. I am immortal and I forgot about my age (sorry).
    3. I live in Midwest (US), South (US), New England (US), Great Plains (US), South West (US), West Coast (US), Atlantic (US) [virginia, maryland, delaware], Southern Atlantic (US) [florida, urban georgia] and Britain, depending on the season. I have never been in other places (hey, are there any other places at all??)

    Edits:

    I am insulted Voodoo.

    We're Mid-Atlantic.

I bow in front of the epicness of this reply.

Not only should you add a male or female option, but you should probably include the 'other' option for the two questions you have there. :P Maybe a delete and redo is in order?

Did you mean "Male", "Female" and "Other"?...

    --------------------

The above post may be not true - I don't take responsibilities!

  9. I did my best to understand Rebel Virginia's side on this, but I FAILed.

Switching Alliance Affiliation to FAIL after having been attacked and then claiming that the attacker started an alliance-wide war with FAIL is... Well, I wouldn't want to be excessively redundant here!

    [ooc]

I also sadly see that the "OOC bomb" is still being used in Alliance Politics.

My knowledge doesn't assist me in naming this psychologic mechanism with which a significant portion of the thinking elites of the currently successful alliances were able to "free" themselves from the sense of shared guilt - for all that was "going wrong" in CN - and to throw all the blame on the Hegemony...

But again, too many were probably too swift to sing about the Coming of the new Golden Age of CN?

    [/ooc]

  10. I was actually saying that you were already thinking of reforming NEAT months ago (since March at the very least) though you didn't have a clear plan, nor a time schedule, and you weren't at all sure of when and if you would have done it. NEAT didn't reform just because of the Karma War (rather, the Karma War delayed your reformation, it seems...)

  11. Therefore, I talked to Schattenmann once more and volunteered to work as an informant. I saw this as the best way to move MCXA away from NPO, because not only were the Vox Senate better equipped to help me transform MCXA, but I received a lot of intelligence from them that helped me to direct MCXA and understand world politics better.
If we accept loyalty to MCXA as faithfulness or devotion to it, then I beg you to consider who displayed loyalty to MCXA: I, the informer who worked not against MCXA, but to save it as dedicated Minister of Foreign Affairs, or those members of MCXA’s government who were largely inactive and allowed an alliance of 700 members to crumble to nothing? Perhaps we could spend some time in reflection over the true meaning of loyalty... for not everything is, or has to be, so cut and dry.

I find the two quotes above to be rather contradictory: you claim you were working for the good of the MCXA - for democracy against dictatorship - and at the same time you justify your (at the very least) opaque scheme to make of the MCXA what you thought was the best for it.

I am afraid that democracy is not that government in which you manipulate the citizens when you can't convince them... ;)

That said, I like you and I think that this was just one more instance in which the old saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" proved to be true.

I also blame my dear Shantamantan.

  12. Someday, this war is going to be nicknamed "The War for Zombie Freedom."

I'll have to disagree on this, Haflinger. AFAIK the reformation of NEAT was a long-term project that finally came to its realization: they were playing with the idea months and months ago (they're just "a bit" slow...)

Good luck NEAT, I look forward to see what you can become.

  13. Intervening in the discussion about the justification of the reparations, I agree with HellAngel that it's matter of opinion.

RoK had all the right to ask and push for the reps they thought were justified, but our Härmlins also have all the right to make clear which requests they'd support, and which they wouldn't.

When two allied parties are finding an agreement over a delicate issue one would hope that both their sovereignties are respected - that is what happened AFAIK. As in the end an accord was found and published, I don't see what's the possible use of bringing back the discussion that preceded it - unless one likes running in circles, that's a respectable position as well, of course...

    [Edit:grammar]

  14. Not a bad flag, with Cirrus's and Antonio's proposals it may become really great.

I'd personally work on something like Antonio's, but removing the five pointed star and the circles from the globe, and making it a bit larger (so that the continents are still discernible when you use a small version of it).

    Something like:
