  1. At least Schattenman and Methrage kept it to only a few hundred words.
  2. Because buying stats and friends with lots of resources from another world is such a huge accomplishment.
  3. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'll just point out that the eQ war was in 2013, not 2011, since I've seen that year thrown around a couple of times. Carry on.
  4. To make one more point about Vox: they were somewhat more effective because people couldn't change their resources so trade circles were more diverse and much harder to put together. And even then, NPO was incompetent and didn't take steps that could have mitigated most to all of the damage: having emergency replacement trade circles available on another color. They are not "inherently evil". The difference between sanctions and other methods of warfare is that the effects of sanctions can be almost entirely undone or prevented, it just takes tedious effort to make that happen. OOC: There's a difference between taking actions that may annoy another player, but actually provide an advantage over that player by doing irreversible damage, and taking actions that almost entirely ONLY serve to annoy the other player.
  5. The situation when you used it was a special one. In standard war situations sanctions are generally not used and for good reason. (OOC: They are a pain in the ass to deal with, don't add much to wars, and won't hurt active people almost at all except for making them go through the tedious process of getting secret trades. Extensive use of sanctions would just create a headache for everyone, they aren't "fun".)
  6. That's a crappy move. Provoking a sanction war would be annoying for everyone.
  7. Are you referring to those of us who joined TOP? :P
  8. It's funny to see certain folks beating their chest about flouting this, as if they aren't going to enter the war on the opposite side of Polaris soon anyway, or haven't already done so. For all the talk of this being unenforceable in most wars over the last several years the "loosing" side has had the advantage in some NS ranges, especially the lower ranges where tech sellers tend to reside.
  9. This. It's easy enough to trade swap. If someone is hurt by the event from having a constant set of war trades that they use even when they collect, that's on them. They are being hurt far more by their own choices and unwilling to trade swap, and their insistence on using war trades all the time, than they are by any events.
  10. Several inaccuracies here: 1) You're % lost difference is almost all from Karma, a war more than 5 years ago.* Take out that war and TOP has lost more on average since then. 2) TOP has lost much more in the last two wars, which really matters the most. Especially in the last war where you gained NS. 3) Being an "elite alliance" isn't about absolute number of nations over a certain threshold but average NS. In this case: IRON: 58,497, TOP: 94,371. 27.1% of IRON is over 10K tech, 52.4% of TOP is. *OOC: Holy c*** has it really been that long? ETA: Saladjoe beat me to it.
  11. Just in time for me to have a 5 bill warchest. OOC: Glad it's after the election!
  12. God damn it I think I'm going to have to go rogue on a member of TOP again, this time on a pony.
  13. To be fair, I was using Overlord Shinra's post as a template for my own.
  14. To be fair DH was abusive towards everyone including itself.
  15. To control 3 senators they'd have to have more members voting than every other alliance on green put together. Even if all their nations had political lobbyists that's unlikely.
  16. That was my first thought upon reading the thread.
  17. Well you gave about as well as you got! Yea my neutrality days are over. Sorry buddy.
