  1. I might be interested - I have sent you a PM
  2. I joined the GPA in November 2006, and it has been a great time. Thank you to everyone helping us celebrate this anniversary. PS - sorry about no flower porn (I don't know how to put in pictures)
  3. o/ UJA [Even if it did end in peace ]
  4. Even a minimal (50%) result helps locate the hotspot, in that it indicates a zone (disc) which does not contain the hotspot.
  5. In RL history multi-polarity has generally been a recipe for more wars, not less, because of its inherent instability and uncertainty. Bipolarity (at least with nukes) was actually more stable in many ways. However in RL, wars have much higher costs and uncertainties than in CN, so RL nations are much less likely to enter into wars, even those they are fairly sure to win. In CN, the evidence appears to suggest that most alliances will seek out allies to help them (as protection against attack and/or for assistance in their attacks) and that a true multi-polar CN would be likely to coalesce into either bi-polar antagonistic camps of nearly equal size or else into a hegemonic grouping, in either case with various smaller groups trying to avoid being targets. Of these choices, bipolarity is better for the small alliances (since they are less likely to become targets when each of the major groups has to worry about its main rival) whereas unipolarity is better for the members of the dominant group (since bipolarity will almost certainly lead to major war between the groups). However the GW and the Karma War appear to show that unipolarity also lays the seeds of its own destruction in that those in power create future opposition by the very means that they use to maintain their current power.
  6. Is the rule really as strict as this that if an IP address as ever been used for nation X, it can never be used to access another nation? Even if only used for X briefly and nation X is normally run from another country. I do understand that my nation would never be able to trade with or send aid to any nation that he started which he accessed from his network. But the very fact that the rule exists about not trading/aiding/co-attacking another nation which has ever been accessed from the same IP address implies that it is possible that two nations could legitimately have been used from the same IP (ie there is some discretion).
  7. I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law and connected my computer to their ethernet/router and accessed my nation. I was telling my brother-in-law about CN and he was interested. Can he create a new nation and try CN? I don't want him (or me) to be classed as a multi. If it makes a difference, I won't ever be using his connection again (he lives in New Zealand).
  8. Been in the GPA since Nov 2006 - this is my second nation due to a snafu with not collecting and getting first nation deleted. But even with my first nation, I made it Green so I could apply for the GPA immediately (I read about them in CN wiki). Never been anything else, and don't want to be.
  9. Thank you for the good wishes and looking forward to a prosperous term for the GPA.
  10. The DoN is not really a treaty - signing it (or not) does not mean that we will treat you differently. We treat everyone the same. Like our Charter, it is a public statement of our values and principles, together with the behaviours that we will follow. Signatories are acknowledging that these are our values and principles and the behaviours we are trying to follow. While the GPA is unusual in CN, because most nations and alliances see warfare (including offensive wars) as an element in acheiving their goals, I don't think it would be correct to characterise us as unique. For instance The Democratic Order has a rather similar Declaration of Global Neutrality. In choosing to be part of the GPA, our nations have also chosen the path of non-intervention. We focus on internal matters and are partners with the rest of CN through resource trades, tech trades and donation trades; but we are not players in the games of inter-alliance politics. In many ways the Charter and the DoN are the core documents of the GPA; we assess everything else we do against the standard of whether it conforms with these.
  11. What the GPA means to me: 1) A great bunch of people to hang out with 2) A commitment to neutrality and a rejection of the "shoot-first" mentality 3) An opportunity to explore and enjoy the nation-building aspects of CN without having to worry about raiders, etc 4) The opportunity to learn from lots of people who know the tricks of nation-building very well (what I learnt at the GPA enabled me to grow a re-created nation from 0 to 3999 infra in just 60 days without donations or gifts). If that sounds good to you check us out.
  12. It is possible to grow a nation in peace mode. But it is really slow going and you will max out. A much better option is to join a peaceful, neutral alliance (like the Green Protection Agency, www.cn-gpa.com). That way you can: 1) avoid most warfare (including being protected against raiders) 2) have the fun of alliance interaction with your team mates 3) benefit from the most profitable CN activity for new nations, which is tech trading. The downside is that it is possible, even for a peaceful neutral alliance, that your alliance will be attacked - there doesn't even need to be a good reason (this is CN after all). In this case you will need to fight with your buddies - the quid pro for the benefits you get the rest of the time. But even with a (rare) war, you will grow much quicker in an alliance than you would in peace mode. But if you really want to try out the peace mode experiment, you should think about labor camps. Income is cut by roughly 50% after more than 5 days in peace mode, but bills are not. Accordingly, the break even point where labor camps (which reduce happiness and infra bills) are beneficial is at significantly lower infra than would be the case for normal nations.
  13. Thanks for giving the GPA a shoutout, but for us growing our nations and our alliance is an end in itself, not a competition against others. We congratulate everyone and hope we all continue to grow together.
