Longbowe has been a good cyber friend to me in the past especially when I was considering what to do in creating a new alliance when I left the ODN. amazingly helpful and thoughtful the VOC owes a lot to the continued commitment that Longbowe has shown to us. Now our bonds have been cemented in a treaty and I couldn't be happier.

While there are many things going on the sanctioned world that seemingly cover up the insignificant business of the little guys, we at the East India Company have been hard at work creating reforms of varying magnitudes that will better help the health of our band of followers and friends. Since our creation we have desired to create a functional state that works with its people to create a system that is both fun and intellectually enjoyable. This is for any alliance a continual process however we have taken a large step to ensure this ideal of perpetual motion with the creation of a modified charter document for the company: [quote] [center]Grand Charter of the East India Company[/center] [u]Preamble [/u] Be it known that we, knowing the prosperity of these nations, and the welfare of their inhabitants depends principally on navigation and trade, which in all former times by the said nations were carried on happily, and with a great blessing to all countries and kingdoms; and desiring that the aforesaid inhabitants should not only be preserved in their former navigation, traffic, and trade, but also that their trade may be increased as much as possible in special conformity to the treaties, alliances, leagues and covenants for traffic and navigation formerly made with other princes, republics and people, which we give them to understand must be in all parts punctually kept and adhered to. And we find by experience, that without the common help, assistance, and interposition of a General Alliance, the people designed from hence for those parts cannot be profitably protected and maintained in their great risk from pirates, extortion and otherwise, which will happen in so very short a time. [u] Article I Membership [/u]Anyone may apply for membership to the alliance as they so choose. The East India Company is an orange alliance. However applicants may apply for a color change waiver with their application which will be subject to review by the Secretary General who will approve or deny the waiver as they see fit. Reasons to apply for a color change waiver should pertain mainly to a nation’s historical background within their color. Procedure for application include: 1.) Setting alliance affiliation to East India Company Applicant 2.) Taking the Concord community oath, then the oath specifically for Cyber Nations. 3.) Setting color to orange unless color change waiver has been requested and approved. 4.) If approved set alliance affiliation to East India Company [color=#000080][color=#000000]Applicants to the East India Company shall be admitted or rejected upon a majority vote by the House of Generals, held within 72 hours of their application.[/color] [/color] [u]Article II Government[/u] The Government is made up of a triumvirate of Generals: Governor General, Secretary General, and Director General. The Generals will be elected by the members of the East India Company to rule and make the decisions for the alliance. Duties of the Generals These three members make all decisions that effect the alliance as a whole. A simple majority is necessary to [color=#000080][color=#000000]sign[/color] [/color]treaties and declare war. Should an urgent vote be required and a simple majority cannot be reached the missing General's Lieutenant shall vote in said General's place. Though all three generals have equal decision power, the Governor General is the Speaker of The House Of Generals. [color=#000000]The Governor General is to act as the voice of the alliance, his duties are to oversee the company's foreign affairs and allies.[/color] [color=#000000]The Director General is to manage and promote the Company's economy and growth; Trade, technology commerce, internal aid and recruiting. [/color] [color=#000000]The Secretary General is to ensure that the Company's members are prepared for battle and will see to military strategy and coordinate with allied military commanders during times of war.[/color] Each of the Generals may appoint up to three Lieutenant Generals to assist in the execution of their assigned duties. At the time of said Lieutenant's appointment their duties shall be determined by the appointing General and should be posted so their is a clear explanation of duties to both the appointee and the membership at large. These Lieutenants will serve at the discretion of the General that appoints them. In the case of a General being replaced in an election the Lieutenant can be carried over or dismissed and a new appointment made at the incoming General's discretion. [u]Article III Elections[/u] The Generals will serve for terms of [color=#000080]3 [/color]months. There will be 3 days of nominations before a vote is made. All nominations must be seconded. Members are allowed to nominate themselves. After nominations there will be three days allotted for the candidates to campaign. Each member will be allowed to cast one vote in each election. [u]Article IV Impeachment[/u] If a General is found to be unable to fulfill his duties for an extended period of time, or is found to be acting in discord with the Charter, the other two Generals will decide if he deserves to be Impeached. If Impeached, a special election will immediately be held to fill his [color=#000080][color=#000000]place for the remainder of his term[/color].[/color] [u]Article V Charter Amendments [/u] Charter Amendments may be suggested by any member of the VOC. Should an amendment gain 2/3rds of the voting membership of the VOC the amendment will be added to the Charter.[/quote] This is in our opinion a much clearer structure than what had previously been created at our founding and is a good foundation that the company will be able to firmly build off of in the future. While this ordeal is playing out on the world stage the East India Company has done it's best to remain out of this conflict and continue with it's business without attempting to favor either side. Part of our internal day to day business, as it is for every good alliance who is not at war, consists of tech deals with various people. Recently there have been a string of deals that have been made with the side currently labeled as the aggressors against the CnG Union. It is only natural for us to seek deals among friends and several of them happened to be with TOP who is our current protector. Some of our nations have received the following message from the CnG: [quote]From: _____________ Date: 2/15/2010 12:50:06 AM Subject: Aid Transactions Message: You appear to have recently sent aid to a nation belonging to an alliance engaged in active aggressive wars against member alliances of the C&G Union. We ask you to immediately stop sending further packages of aid to these alliances and to cancel your current pending transactions. If so we will consider the situation resolved, but further aid packages will result in a military response. Your nation will be monitored for compliance with this request.[/quote] As a nation who (as most others) desires to have some class, we are completing tech deals that were agreed upon on the pure business level, to default on payment of such a deal is dirty and dishonorable, yet we have been asked to do just that: [quote]From: ___________________ Date: 2/16/2010 5:29:50 PM Subject: RE: Aid transactions Message: Yes, we're instructing you to default or wait until after the war. Further aid to them during the war will result in retaliatory attacks.[/quote] To think that we, a nation of honorable players, are aiding a nation at war is deplorable especially since we are not involved in the conflict. To threaten us with war for completing a business transaction that was agreed upon by parties who were under the assumption that tech deals were still allowed in war and essentially reducing us to a base group who bounces checks is considered a high insult for what we stand for, Banking, Commerce, and Trade. As a small neutral party in this war and world as a whole that poses little if no threat, we are highly offended. With this in mind we will fulfill the current contractual tech deal agreements we have with TOP, which are strictly tech deals, no aid for war has or ever will be sent during the duration of this conflict as long as we remain a neutral party. After the remaining deals have been completed, our government will seek other options for tech deals with other neutral parties for the duration of the conflict.
