Destroying those pixels ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Ada069 The Next War. So, the inevitable war that was predicted months before (being minister of war for November I knew about the karma war was coming in November) question is, where will it strike next. Will TOP go for power and glory and pick on someone there not meant to and be owned. Will NpO go nuts and take on destroy the MHA? Who knows? What starts a war? War, there is no Good and bad side, no right and wrong, just different views and opinions. The issue is simple. When will the next difference of opinion start the war? Answer... who knows? All it takes is one mistake and there goes the ball game. Spying is a new one at best. U has the Karma war which had a very different point of view on spying. And also the lessons learnt from MHA vs. Emily (thread in public forum) means some alliances REALLY need to rethink on what they call spying. What wins the wars in the end? Not members Not pixels Support Fan gained allot of support, and through I bet stubborn acceptance. NPO gave them peace. Karma gained support for being the saviours of CN for killing NPO. But they soon lost support faster then they gained it by seemingly finding holes in the cause’s belli. America gained home support when Japan bombed them. And the Media is one of the few reasons the Vietnam War failed, because it changed the views from the home front. (Hence Viet-vets being spat on when they got home ECT) What to look for? Tension rumours are lolzy. But tend to be true. The idea is to look for the splits. With tC gone, I suspect the next war to be a color treaty affair with Super friends and Citadel obviously the two most powerful blocs, remain close together. maybe FAN will rise again and be as awesome as they were. maybe NPO will regain dominance and new emperor Cortath is an evil dictator and throw wave after wave onslaught on me for using them as an Example to much. who knows? Article III: What really grinds my gears: Treaties? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by Stonewall Jaxon Treaties What, you say? I shouldn't hate treaties, since they've been around since 2006, and the Corporation declared existence with three of them? Well my apologies to almost every non-neutral alliance on Bob, but the idea of a treaty as a "binding contract" has to be one of the politically dumbest practices we have in this game... err... universe. Alternatively, an alliance should simply make friends; if those friends truly support the alliance, they would not let an ally die in a war; that would be just as detrimental to their political power. Already, I think I can hear a peanut gallery shouting, "But Stonewall, who would make someone defend you from a bandwagon?" Well sure, a treaty adds a public "peers pressure" element to going to a war, but do you really want someone fighting for you who do not want to be there? Here's a hint: it won't do you any good; a quick look at the "Karma" War will show you that an alliance "legally coerced" into a war cannot be forced to participate. While I'm looking at the Karma War, I might as well mention that treaties can be outright violated as well as half-assedly carried out (PC, MHA, NPO, to name a few). of course, the concept of the treaty has evolved over time, or should I say devolved, from a clever political means of getting ahead into an absolutely meaningless waste of paper. I suppose the evolution began around the beginning of time, although my shoddy knowledge of the time period renders me unable to comment on the political atmosphere. However, I believe I am safe in presuming that the treaty prior to Great War Three was a "binding contract." You signed treaties with alliances on your "side," and if you felt as if the treaty wouldn't hold up in war, it would be cancelled. What I'd rather focus on is the era closest to the current one, the era of the Hegemony and the massive "MDP web," or what I call the "modern era." If one were to graph the sheer number of military treaties over time, the upward slope moving into the "Hegemony" era would be ridiculously steep. Eventually, treaties came to mean things other than a mutual friendship. Perhaps an MDP was needed to unify two competing factions, or maybe it as to protect one alliance from attack against a mutual enemy. Often, treaties were signed simply because the alliances felt they were related well enough through other people, which is a major factor that contributed to the creation of "sides" at all times, rather than each alliance having its own independent political character at a given time. By the time of the Karma War, sure-to-be enemies had MDPs with one another, despite a complete lack of an actually political or personal friendship (either one of which I feel could justify an actual "treaty.") With the end of the Karma War, the status of the treaty may be in peril. Many alliances even see it as "honourable" to violate a treaty if their "treaty partners" (not necessarily allies, sadly) were committing an "aggressive action." If I may digress for a moment that is total bullcrap: If you make a written commitment to defend someone who makes aggressive actions, you signed a treaty with both their defensive and aggressive actions. Back to the point, with the treaty having little actual meaning, some alliances are stating that every war they fight will be fought with "their friends," regardless of paper. So, to the entire CN community I raise this question: why sign treaties? Why do we all continue to put on this charade of non-binding announcements, when all the treaties of today are practically rendered useless by their sheer volume and overuse? Is it because some of you simply have no friends, so you try to create the illusion of strength on paper? Answer me that: What's the point? Well, there's one thing that annoys me, written in about twenty minutes at the same time as a paper on The Scarlet Letter. Next one will be more planned-out, I promise Article IV: IRC Interview with Emperor Cortath ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So this week I decided to travel to Pacifica to hunt down the new emperor cortath who had just recently replaced moo-cows as leader of New Pacific Order. this interview, having never previously speaking to cortath, was like walking in the dark blindfolded and numb. but it was more interesting then I thought. here is how it went.
