Wien

Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen.

In the aftermath of the civil war and reconstruction of the nation, many voices have been calling for elections, asking that the King, Alexander I., take the necessary steps to proceed and change our nation's form of government to a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system, where the King would retain certain powers, but most would go to the Parliament, the Bundestag. The King would retain his title as King, but serve a function as President of the country.

Under this system, the Duchies of Bavaria and Slovenia and the Kingdom of Austria would formally join in a federal republic, each of the three becoming a federal state within this republic.

Yesterday, the King has formally accepted the request, the parties forming officially only hours later - many had apparently predicted that he would accept.

It is thus that the first elections of Austria will start tomorrow.

OOC: Actually, they start now, because I'm too lazy to make a new thread now.

Also, do note that I will only use the voted in here as guideline. Your vote will have weight, but (hopefully) not so much that it forces me to RP what I don't want to RP.

IC:

Sozialdemokratische Partei Österreich (SPÖ) - Socialdemocratic Party of Austria

The current party platform of the SPÖ espouses the goal of social democracy, which is seen as a vision of a societal arrangement in which freedom and social justice are paramount. According to the party platform, freedom, justice, and social solidarity, form the basis of social democracy. The coordinated social market economy should be strengthened, and its output should be distributed fairly. The party sees that economic system as necessary in order to ensure the affluence of the entire population. The SPÖ also tries to protect the society's disadvantaged with a welfare state. Concurrently, it advocates a sustainable fiscal policy that doesn't place a burden on future generations while eradicating budget deficits. In social policy, the SPÖ stands for civil rights in an open society. In foreign policy, the SPÖ aims at ensuring global peace by balancing global interests with democratic means.

Christlich Demokratische Union (CDU) - Christian Democratic Union

The CDU is non-denominational, Christian-based, applying the principles of Christian Democracy and emphasizes the "Christian understanding of humans and their responsibility toward God." People adhering to any confessions and non-confessional people are allowed to be members of the CDU. The CDU's policies encompass derivatives from Political Catholicism and Catholic social teaching, political protestantism, as well as neoliberalism, fiscal conservatism and national conservatism. The CDU was the first proponent of the social market economy and is following a neoliberal approach. In terms of foreign policy, the CDU commits itself to European integration and a strong relation with the American continent, since Austria needs America as a bastion promoting peace and freedom. Domestically, the CDU emphasizes curtailing red tape and the preservation of cultural traditions.

Political Ideology

Christian democracy and

Liberal conservatism

Leader: Angela Merkel

Nationaldemokratische Partei Österreich (NPÖ) - Nationaldemocratic Party of Austria

The NPÖ's political philosophy coincides with the notion of a third political position, an idea which developed amidst criticisms of both liberal capitalism and communism. The NPÖ also endorses certain beliefs about human nature. NPÖ leader Udo Voigt states that the philosophy of the NPÖ differs from both communism and social liberalism in that it acknowledges people as unequal products of their societies and environments, largely governed by what is called natural law. Voigt states that the party is also influenced by the views of modern sociologists such as Konrad Lorenz and Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt. The NPÖ's economic program promotes social security for Austrians and control against plutocracy, but the party does not oppose private property. Voigt has demanded the "dismantling" of the "liberal-capitalist system".

Die Linke - The Left

The Left aims for democratic socialism. As a platform for left politics in the wake of globalization, The Left includes many different factions, ranging from communists to center-left social democrats.

The Left hasn't yet adopted its own party program. Recently, during the joint party convention of Left Party and WASG, a document outlining political principles was agreed on. In terms of fiscal policies, those include solidarity and more self-determination for workers, redistribution of wealth through different means including tax increases for corporations, big businesses and wealthy individuals, the rejection of privatization and the introduction of a minimum wage, and more generally the overthrow of property and power structures in which, citing Karl Marx's aphorism, "man is a debased, enslaved, abandoned, despicable essence".

Concerning foreign policy, The Left wishes for a European process of integration, while opposing all forms of militarism rising in the current political climate and market-oriented policies.

Political Ideology

Democratic socialism

Colours - Red/White

Leader: Lothar Bisky

Bündnis 90/Die Grünen - Alliance '90/The Greens

Opposition to pollution, use of nuclear power, military action, and certain aspects of life in a highly industrialized society are principal campaign issues. They are against restrictions on immigration and abortion, while supporting the decriminalization of marijuana use, placing a higher priority on working for the rights of homosexuals, and tending to advocate what they describe as "anti-authoritarian" concepts of education and child-upbringing. They also tend to identify more closely with a culture of protest and civil disobedience, frequently clashing with police at demonstrations against nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and the construction of a new runway (Startbahn West) at Munich airport.

Political Ideology

Green politics

Colours - Green

Leader: Claudia Roth

Piratenpartei Österreich - Pirate Party of Austria

The party opposes the dismantlement of civil rights in telephony and on the Internet, in particular data retention policies and Austria's new Internet censorship law called Zugangserschwerungsgesetz. It also opposes artificial monopolies and various measures of surveillance of citizens.

The party favors the civil right to information privacy and reforms of copyright, education, computer science and genetic patents.

It promotes in particular an enhanced transparency of government by implementing open source governance and providing for APIs to allow for electronic inspection and control of government operations by the citizen.

Political Ideology

Kommunistische Partei Österreich (KPÖ) - Communist Party of Austria

The Kommunistische Partei Österreich (KPÖ) was unofficially created around the birth of the Bavarian state after the succession and defeat of Nordland due to restrictions on Communist participation in government, however due to the failures of ComIntern, even unofficially the people of Bavaria distrusted the KPÖ to the point of needing secret meetings in Munich and around the countryside. They remained a small movement, however, following the Austrian Civil War their numbers grew due to the civilian hatred of Martencist take over of Southern Austria to the point of the creation of country-wide Communist Party which birthed the KPÖ as it is known today. The KPÖ preaches policies that include, but are not limited to, stronger trade unions to adjust the strength of the working class, inclusion of these unions into the political atmosphere for direct representation in government of occupations. National and free health care, social security programs, and a welfare system that is heavily regulated by the state through taxation of the population. As to the tax system, the KPÖ believes in a progressive income tax, where while everyone pays and equal amount according to their wealth, therefore, both the poor man and the rich man pay the same amount per se, but the wealthy pay a greater deal into the tax system due to the sheer amount of wealth. The Education system on both the secondary and university levels are free, where students take an exam and upon passing that exam gives state funding to their tuition, however plans are in the work to completely do away with college tuition.

Foreign policy at the moment is restricted due to the sheer amount fascist presence in Europe, however the KPÖ seeks active trade at reduced tariffs in both Europe and in the global economy. They seek alliances with other such Communist/Socialist nations, especially due to Communist growth in Asia. Their opinions on the Eurasian Union as a capitalist montage are very low, especially due to the HRE-War in recent years.

The Republic of Finland cannot support any of these parties. "What happened to having a non-religious conservative party?" -President Uberstein.

"Austrian conservatives are inherently religious. Only a few thousand conservative Austrians are not christian."

"Austrian conservatives are inherently religious. Only a few thousand conservative Austrians are not christian."

"But that doesn't mean they cannot call for a secular government, or are you saying that Christians in your nation are incapable of rational thought? There are many religious Christians, and other religions, in the Ubersteinist-Republican party but they don't try to make their holy book the law of the land in Finland." -President Uberstein.

"Zargathia cannot support any of these parties either. Though our preference would normally have gone out to the CDU, we find ourselves currently at odds with the Americanism in their foreign affairs policy."

"They are capable of rational thought, but want to bring christian values into the government and thus the entire nation. They will not, however, turn the country into one led indirectly by bishops or the pope."

"Zargathia cannot support any of these parties either. Though our preference would normally have gone out to the CDU, we find ourselves currently at odds with the Americanism in their foreign affairs policy."

"Too bad."

The Bartowski Administration in Nedland has endorsed Franz Müntefering of the Social Democratic Party in this election.

"The Bartowski Administration has my deepest gratitude for their support."

- Müntefering

OOC: Lol at doing this the same time at the RL German Elections :awesome:

As usual, voted commie, can't make an IC post until this whole civil dispute ends

OOC: :awesome:

OOC: D= No FDP?!

IC:

To the Austrian people,

We are proud of you for having voiced yourselves for a free and fair election. While the choices are poor... it's a step up. Congratulations, all!

President Murphy, FRA

OOC: Dun liek FDP. >:|

IC: "The choices are those that have established themselves in the short time between announcing and actually conducting the elections. Next time, there may be more parties, but that will be in four years."

OOC: Too many options :v:.

IC: We will place our support in Nationaldemokratische Partei Österreich (NPÖ).

OOC: I could do oh so many more, lul.

IC: "You have my personal thanks."

- Voigt

It would seem that the NPÖ's theory is the most akin to that of Revolutionism, thus we shall support them.

"Indeed, we want to revolutionize this country, though many in Austria do not appear to appreciate our efforts. It is sad to see this."

- Voigt

"Most people in Austria see the NPÖ as pseudo-martencist party, as close to that as they can get without actually breaking any laws that prohibit Martencism or Nordism."

"The votes are changing a bit away from our favor Comrade. It would appear popular opinion is shifting towards the Nationalists."

"You don't say Astimov?" Said the jade eyes as they looked up from the desk. "Nationalists in Austria? I find that hard to believe after the recent civil war, most people would want something less extreme."

"I don't know if I would consider Communism a lesser extreme."

"Of course not, but it is the favorable extreme. I will send a message to Ulbricht, Austria is very important to our future and every important to changing the future of Europe. The people still are under the thumb of that dreadful organization that is still trying to maintain all across the continent, the tensions in Asia between America is only the first step in changing this. But Austria is a huge part of our future. Even if Ulbricht doesn't win, we need a liberal minded party."

"It doesn't even seem that that is a possibility now General Akhatova."

"There are ways."

Comrade Ulbricht,

You may or may not know who I am and what I stand for, though I hope my name might have crossed the closed borders of Fascist Europe as of late to bring you and your compatriots some hope in this election. The success of the Austrian Communist Party is inherent to not only changing Europe for a much brighter future, but indeed you have the power and the will to change the entire world for the better. To simply let this fall would be a sin against everything we believe in as ideologists and as people. I have taken great interest in the success of your party during these elections and while taking a more volatile approach may be unfavorable, I believe it may be approaching that time before Nationalists regain power sending Austria into a curve spin that will no doubt led to more infighting between those desiring freedom and some forsaken Nationalist minority that sees Austria as the last bulwark against Fascism that must fall.

I tell you Comrade, you must not fall and Austria must not give into the fascist desires, whatever your party requires, turn to us and turn to your brothers and sisters in Asia. We will not let you slip.

"Ladies and Gentlemen,

The voting results:

  • SPÖ - 32.6%
  • CSU - 24.3%
  • KPÖ - 13.2%
  • Grüne - 8.6%
  • Linke - 8.4%
  • PPÖ - 7.8%
  • NPÖ - 5.1%

Contrary to all pre-election surveys, the NPÖ managed to get over the 5%-obstacle which aims to prevent unnecessary cluttering in the Bundestag.

As there is no clear winner in this election - the strongest party being the SPÖ with 32.6% and thus likely the party which will provide the Chancellor - the exact inter-party alliances will hopefully be revealed shortly, preventing a big coalition, where the SPÖ and CSU - considering each other natural rivals - try to work together to form a proper government.

The parties forming the government will be announced within the next days."

Ulbricht chose to stay silent, merely sending a note containing the following sentence:

'Our democracy will hopefully set things right as needed.'

"Franz Müntefering is now the Chancellor of Austria.

th_Muente.jpg

The SPÖ, KPÖ and Grüne have formed a coalition, both the Linke and the PPÖ having refused to work together with each other. They will thus be part of the opposition, vowing to be a strong, but just opposition, watching the new government closely.

Together, the SPÖ, KPÖ and Grüne unite 54.4% under their banner, the opposition claiming a total of 45.6% of the votes. NPÖ officials have demanded a recount of the vote, claiming that the election was manipulated. However, until they can show proof for their claim of the election being a fraud, the government will continue on its current course.

Observers from all parties have been invited to recount the votes to make sure that the NPÖ's claim is unfounded. In the case that the claim gets debunked, it is likely that the bad reputation the party will get from this scandal may alienate their voters, securing other parties additional votes.

That is all for tonight. Thank you for watching."
