VDL South Shenanigans

Leclerc was away, watching a movie (one of his favourite ones, in fact, Dr. Strangelove), so Dr. Bert did what had to be done eventually. He asked Alexander to meet him in N-81, sending a similar message to Laura. Bert didn't plan to appear there at all, intending to leave the two to their own devices. With Alexander having been 'influenced' ever so slightly and Laura being rather lonely, he hoped that the meeting between the two would be a successful one.

Dr. Bert waited. He was looking at a surveillance camera overlooking that exact part of the complex. Approximately two minutes before the agreed-upon time, Alexander appeared on the screen, leaning lazily against a bulkhead's frame, closing his eyes. Soon afterwards, about three minutes later, someone appeared off-screen, having said something to the genetically manufactured young man. He moved away from the wall and near the middle of the screen, talking to that person, who remained off-screen. He seemed to be flustered and in an awkward situation right now. Bert grinned.
The result of this would only be seen later.

"Those pulse engines, what's the status?"
"Excellent. We had a breakthrough, we'll soon have finished testing."
"Good to hear."
"Talking of 'hearing', anything new about the active defense systems that're planned to be built onto our tanks?"
"Nothing, but I odn't really concern myself with that. I'm in a different part of R&E and too busy with my stuff."
"Oh, okay. I'll have to ask someone else, then."
"Do that."
"See you."
"Bye."

"Gentlemen.
We have successfully developed pulse detonation engines. They're hard to make, but will immensely benefit us, especially with the super-resilient airframes we managed to build."
"Not to mention those have extra-little friction!"
"Shut it. But yes, they have miniscule friction as well, enabling our planes to go even faster. Missiles are being upgraded accordingly with similar materials and to be faster, et cetera. We're working on keeping the maneuverability, but that shouldn't be too great a problem."
"Of course not. We're the most advanced of all nations, after all!"
"Aside from maybe Rebel Army. But they only have good planes."
"Which we'll surpass soon."
"Quite possibly. Anyways. Tanks, they'll be upgraded, too. Just the armour we have now won't work forever. Active defenses, ERA armour, the entire range."
"Aren't we working on ELRA armour, too?"
"Well, yes."
"How does that work, anyways?"
"Don't ask me, I just bring the news."
"Oh."
"Yes."
TO: Head of State of the South German Government
From: The Desk of Therese Zelle, Prime Minister of Aquitaine

Excellency,

In the recent few months, Aquitaine's expansion has led to the downfall of the Burgundian state and our possession of the entirety of France. This brings us to needing relations with our neighbors both far and near. I have had the pleasure of meeting with both the Italian President and the Chancellor of North Germany, both lovely men in their own right, however in the case of the South German government, Aquitaine and your people have remained content in relative silence. Let us bring that to a close. I would like to propose talks that would lead up to some form of treaty, whether it be strictly friendship, economic, or perhaps even defensive, the relations between the French state, the German States, and the other states of Western Europe are imperative and I hope that this outreach of friendship meets you eyes with a happy greeting. I look forward at the birth of relations between South Germany and Aquitaine.

Sincerely,

Therese Zelle
Prime Minister

TO: The Desk of Therese Zelle, Prime Minister of Aquitaine
From: Head of State of the South German Government

Dearest Therese,

With my power secure, I can now finally respond to your letter.
I would gladly meet with you here in Vienna to discuss relations and other things between our two nations. I'm convinced something great will come out of it.

With regards,

Alexeij Vladimirovich Obama
Chairman of the GDR
"Gentlemen, once more we meet."
"As usual. Once every few weeks."
"Well, what's new?"
"We have actually managed to improve the efficiency of our nano-batteries further. Building an actual laser-based, hand-held weapon that doesn't need its batteries recharged after every dozen shots is now actually a viable and very feasible possibility."
"You're using the PHASR as basis, aren't you?"
"Indeed. Previously, it was capable of blinding enemies reliably over great distances or fire short bursts of, well, 'focused' light in layman's terms, to damage tissue."
"It's not actually just photons, is it?"
"No. A laser is much more than that, depending on how it's powered, induced, et cetera. The weapons are of course still very expensive, but mass production might just take care of that."
"Tanks were very expensive at the beginning of the 20th century. Anything is expensive at the start, computers were, too. But it gets cheaper, the more production of the product gets refined."
"Same with our laser guns, I guess. Or the pulse detonation engines we're implementing on our planes."
"Speaking of those, how does it go? Any difficulties?"
"Well, the pilots are having slight problems, they're not used to these speeds."
"The planes are up to twice as fast as before, so yeah."
"It's as if you're an F1 driver and your car suddenly goes 500 kilometres instead of 300."
"Well, yes. Anyways. How is the tank research going?"
"We're taking some inspiration from Ubersteinian vehicles. Interestingly, they're more advanced in actual tank-defence, but that's mostly because we've never really concerned ourselves with active defence, just using high-tech materials to protect against attacks."
"What exactly are those defences, anyways?"
"Well, one would be similar to ERA, ELRA. Electric reactive armour."
"What the hell's that?"
"Basically, it's our nano carbon-fibers being used with powerful capacitors. Basically, it works as a sort of force field, electric-based, like a second layer of armour."
"Seriously? It's a field of energy repelling bullets?"
"Not exactly repel. It slows the projectiles and weakens their destructive power, though."
"Crazy. And that stuff actually works?"
"Yes, it does. But it won't be easy making it. We're working on it, but it may require additional resources."
"That doesn't happen often."
"No, it doesn't. Anyways. We're working on it, we're trying to get everything done, but we may need outside help. Next topic."

"How'd it go, Bert?"
"Better than I'd thought. They apparently want to meet later. One could almost say...a date."
Leclerc nods. "I hope they'll be happy together, despite their work."
"I'm sure of that They were, well, made for each other."
"I guess." Once again, the scientist nods. "Thank you, Bert."
"No problem, Leclerc."

In the meantime, the crew of the GDSV Explorer was boarding the ship, a total of 45 people trained to be the vanguard of mankind's exploration of space.
Already, they were being celebrated as heroes by the nation's citizens, with many speeches praising these brave men and women. So many hoped for a success of this mission, yet so much could go wrong.

"Gentlemen."
"Ahem."
"Pardon. Ladies and Gentlemen."
"That's better."
"Anyways. People. We need to talk about our advances in Science."
"There's not that much to talk about, really. Just improvements to currently known stuff."
"Improvements are still good, better than nothing at all."
"Well then. The PHASR-based weapon is proving to be rather effective against infantry, or at least most common kevlar armours and the like."
"And our exoskeletons and uniforms?"
"Less effective, but still useful, especially if used against less-armoured regions. However, it's a direct and a line-of-sight weapon, so it won't punch through walls or anything, unlike normal weapons."
"That's fine. We just need it to be powerful enough yet have batteries that're charged easily and last long."
The new batteries take care of that. Nano-tech is incredibly useful for this, much more efficient than normal batteries because they work on a truly molecular level in every sense."
"How often can they fire with those?"
"Right now we can get batteries as big as a normal magazine to fire roughly 25 times, depending on the exact circumstances and weather. In optimal conditions, we can get up to 30 salvoes out of each, but we're working on making them better and better."
"Until when?"
"Until each of these things can be recharged by throwing it into a fire or putting it into sunlight for half an hour and has enough power for 250 shots."
"Seriously?"
"That's what the lasguns in Warhammer 40,000 are capable of. So, yeah."
"Striving for making a game true. Then you'll name the guns 'flash-lights' just for fun, right?"
"Of course! Then we'll find the God-Emperor aka Jesus aka every major personality in history and make him our leader!"
Laughter ensued, but died down shortly after.
"Any-, anyways. The laser weapons are good?"
"Yes."
"On to our planes, then. The carbon fibre is implemented with almost every single plane of ours. It's only a question of weeks, months at most, before all our planes have this superior, yet light armouring, etc."
"Excellent. This means that the only problem with implementing the PDEs will be the pilots, who have to get used to these speeds."
"Indeed. And it won't even affect the pricing much."
"So the planes will cost about the same?"
"They'll be a bit more expensive than before, but not more than 10 %."
"That's impressive. Aren't the PDEs expensive?"
"Yes, but improvements here and there made the rest cheaper. All in all, efficiency was improved. Everywhere, in the entire production process."
"That's great. Now, ELRA? Any news?"
"None, unfortunately. The concept isn't that hard, but actually making it happen is much harder. We need someone with more experience about this."
"Who?"
"No goddamned idea."

"Hey, Laura."
"Oh, hey Alex."
She smiled at him, he responded with a blush, shy as he was. Despite this, however, the two showed signs of there being more than just a platonic work-relationship. It wasn't too obvious, but their mimic and gesticulation showed it rather clearly if one knew how to read it. Leclerc was one such person, and he was happy for the two, but especially for Laura, a girl he had come to love as if she were his own daughter, treating her as such, with love and great care.
Most of the feelings between the two were rather subtle. Usually, at least.
After talking for a while about this and that, from games to their training, Laura came a bit closer than would be comfortable. A smirk had made its way onto her face. "Hey, Alex."
"Uhh...Yes?"
"Would you like to watch a movie later today?"
"I, ah...I guess..?"
"Cool!" And suddenly, a kiss was on his cheek. He tried responding somehow, but then the young woman was gone already.

"Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, the Chairman announced some changes in the workings of our great nation.

Firstly, the title of our Head of State shall no longer be Chairman. Instead, the title will be 'Premier' from now on.
Secondly, the armbands many nations see as "oppressive" and "totalitarian" will from now on be totally optional, instead of just at home. Citizens are asked to take their normal IDs with them instead, and all other cards, et cetera they'll need in the armband's stead.

On another topic, the GDP of the Republic has surpassed an immense nine trillion. This makes the GDR the single largest economy on the entire planet.
In light of this, the Premier has ordered several new ships to be built, amongst them another Battleship, a Cruiser, a Corvette, a Submarine and a number of Landing Ships. This brings out nation's navy to a total of 87 vessels, the largest in the world.
The larger GDP also allows for more men to be trained and a larger cavalry force to be built, with almost 1.9 million men and nearly 19,000 tanks in the National People's Army. This makes the GDR's armed forces not only some of the most advanced ones, but also larger than any single army in recent history. Great achievements, but nothing in comparison to the GDSV Explorer, which is currently on its way to Mars, to explore the red planet."

"Okay, so now we're going to talk about the active defences for our armour again."
"Again?"
"Yes. And probably ERA too, because someone got something wrong last time."
"Predictable."
"Very."
"Whatever. Now, active defences. Basically, we need radar on our tanks."
"We have that on our infantry suits as standard already. Nothing new here."
"I know. Secondly, we need computers capable of doing stupidly fast calculations."
"Done and done."
"As usual. Third thing, we need tiny guns that shoot tiny explosives so incoming projectiles are put 'off-course', so to say."
"Bluh?"
"Basically, the small gun fires a high explosive which is timed to explode slightly before and to the side of the incoming projectile so the shock-wave hits it with full force. This is intended to slightly change the angle at which it's incoming, either making it miss or impact at a wrong angle so its power is reduced."
"I see."
"That's as simple as I can put it. If you want it simpler, ask someone else."
"And ERA?"
"ELRA, actually. Someone got it wrong last time, it doesn't actually slow the projectile, but vaporizes it, turning it into a plasma and thus negating much of its power. Still will need outside help."
"Why?"
"Because I say so. No, seriously, we don't have the capacities for this stuff here."
"Really?"
"If I say it, yes."
"Jeez."
"Is there anything else left?"
"We can talk about the PHASR rifles again."
"Hm. Were there any improvements on the battery capacity and whatnot?"
"In fact, yes."
"This quickly?"
"We're good, we always get results."
"Yeah, right. Keep talking, maybe it'll be true in a million years."
"Shut up. We did improve those batteries sufficiently to allow for almost 50 shots with each."
"That's pretty good."
"But nowhere as much as what you want to have."
"Well, yeah. Warhammer is basically handwaving all their tech. We can't copy anything, unfortunately."
"So you'll have to research it all by yourself. What a pity."
"Why can't you just shut your pie-hole?"
"Because I quite like pie, thank you very much."
"Bah!"
"Please do shut up."
Silence.
"Thank you."
"Okay, well. The PHASR can still be improved, but I've no idea by how much. Whether we'll reach 100, 250 or even 500 shots per battery is impossible to know."
"We'll see when you're done."
"I suspect we'll never be done, to be honest. There's always something to be improved."
"True."
"Is there anything new about the PDEs?"
"Aside from our pilots still getting adjusted to them and the new airframes? No."
"Are those frames really that different?"
"Well, one of them described it as flying an entirely new vehicle, though he didn't really go into detail."
"Too bad. but if they like it..."
"Oh, they like it. They love it, in fact. Our Chair Force is in glee because of these new engines."
"Good for them. But that was it for the time being, wasn't it?"
"Actually, yes. Unfortunately. We'll have to think of something else to do when we've finished these projects."
"Mhmm..."

. . . . . .
Nothing. No movement. Not even breathing.
Run. The bullet impacts centimetres behind my right foot. Shrapnel grazes leg and foot. I flinch, but keep running. Cover.
I press myself against the wall once more. Fighting against the best sniper in the world is hard, even if it's just training. And it's night impossible to get close.
Yet I must try.
Somehow.

Finally, I made it into cover. It was hard evading her gaze, but it certainly is possible; I just proved that. However, I'll have to work similarly hard to get close enough to win this match. That may be almost impossible, though...She chose a virtually perfect spot to sit down at and shoot at me, if she is where I think she is.
Which might not be the case at all.

She's the best goddamned sniper in this nation, and I'm training to protect her. How am I doing this? Winning against her in training exercises. How the hell am I going to win? No idea. There's a reason why Laura is this good. She outsnipes anyone, and as far as I know, I'm the only one in forever to have come within 100 meters of her. After starting 500 away from her.
What the hell did they do with her that she became this good? Or does she just love sniping so much that she literally becomes one with her gun? Heh, cheesy.

Still, I at least have to get into the same building as she is, I have standards.

"How is it going?"
"He's getting better quickly. Nowhere in the condition she's in, but with enough work, they'll be about on par with each other."
"That's not exactly what I meant..."
"Uh...? Oh! Right. Well, they're getting closer, but it's going slow. They're hindered somewhat by the training. Neither filed a request for contraceptives yet, and I doubt they'd be doing...it without them."
The older man nodded. "Both were taught properly to be careful in that respect."
"Well, yeah. Tough it's slightly creepy to be talking about them like that."
"Perhaps. But I'm simply concerned that they do the right choices."
"Right for you, you mean."
"Maybe...But which parent doesn't act like this?"
"I don't know. Perhaps all do."
"Perhaps."

Traps.
Traps everywhere.

My god, how did she set those up so quickly? This is completely insane. I've no idea how she did it, but they're there, and thrice I've been almost hit. Only thanks through my enhanced reflexes and bodily functions did I not fail the exercise right then and there.
Her use of traps is ingenious. In 40% of all cases, I never see them, despite all the enhancements I have basically everywhere. A normal human wouldn't see even a third of these traps, no matter how carefully they worked through the building.
Who the hell would ever see a goddamned nanowire? The only sign is their minimal vibration in the air, which I can barely pick up with the new audio sensors. Just running into it would slice any limb it touches off, like a searing-hot knife through soft butter.

And I think she knows I'm in the building already. I must be very careful, otherwise she'll get me in a suprise attack.

"Gentlemen, we meet again."
"Yes, we do. We always do."
"Is there anything we have to discuss?"
"I've no idea. Our pilots are used to the Pulse Detonation Engines by now. Our planes are all built using the advanced new hulls. Our tanks are being equipped with ERA, while research about ELRA continues."
"Batteries continue to be improved, though slowly."
"How many shots?"
"Sixty by now."
"Nice."
"What about that new armour? Carbon-boron fiber-ish stuff?"
"I'm not sure, actually. Who made it?"
"Not us. I think Leclerc made it rather recently, all on his own."
"Seriously? That's crazy. How'd he do it?"
"I've no idea. But he did it anyways, equipping his two favourite subjects with it."
"Some kind of 'final legacy'?"
"You mean in addition to what he's done for us all already? Despite his age?"
"Well, yeah. From what I know, he likes the two, especially the girl."
"Didn't he kind of make the two?"
"In a sense, yes. The girl he persuaded to pursue a new life after being one of his subjects for almost a decade while he worked with the GM department to literally make the boy. From scratch."
"Jesus H. Christ. What can't he do?"
"It does seem the man can do anything. I mean, he even helped develop the quantum computer our old Chairman's sitting in right now, and the brain-computer link, too."
"Almost as if he was involved in every single goddamned invention in this country."
"He was the leader of Canada and one of the best scientists of all time. Even if few of the things he's done will actually be acknowledged..."
"Sad. He's such a titan in science, yet few people, aside from us in this here complex, will ever know his contributions to it."
"That's how things work. Unfortunately."
"We should make an effort to make him more known in the public."
"Would he want that? If he wanted it, he'd surely do it himself?"
"Perhaps he's too busy to do so?"
"But he's friends with Lynneth, who could easily hack into everything everywhere and make the information widely known."
"He could've asked him, then. But he didn't."
"Tells tales about him. He's a humble man."
"Mhm.."

Vienna

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Yet another building project has been started by our government, though the first since the new Chairman - now Premier - was voted into office.

A few kilometers outside of Vienna, this modern and high-tech complex will be built, serving not only as work place and factories for tens of thousands, but also a monument to our great nation and ideology, Rational Communism.
Construction will begin within the next weeks, and the project is expected to be completed within the next four years.

In addition, an artist has completed a picture of our great Cosmonauts who are currently on their mission to Mars. While some may decry it as pure propaganda, this is indeed how they look - though no weapons are on board of the Explorer due to safety of the ship and the crew.

With treaties and other such shenanigans being done, the South German fleet in Koper was split into two - half of the entire force was sent to round the Italian shoe and go to France, where they would thus be able to sail into harbour, keeping at least half of the fleet safe at all times.
Of course, the French would be notified of these movements, so that they could prepare for 44 naval vessels that would arrive within a relatively short span of time.

The French Imperial Navy after signing the Mutual Defense Pact with the South German Government, had been alerted that the Port of Brest would be receiving a great number of ships from the German fleet. A total of forty-four were placed on the roster, however before Brest could hold all those ships, along with the vessels of the Imperial Navy, construction of harbor space would have to begin. To accommodate, the German fleet was directed to be divided between Brest and the port of LaRochelle on the Bay of Biscay, until construction would be completed. This only solidifying further, the French and South German relations.

The GDR would, of course, help in the construction of the enlarged harbour while the ships were anchored in LaRochelle and Brest.
It would mostlikely not take more than half a year, a rather short time, considering that they were still working elsewhere, namely constructing a naval base on an island of the Athenian Federation.

"Got you."
"Yeah, that's pretty obvious. You're to my right, I'm holding my rifle so that I could easily counter a surprise from the left. In the time I turned and fired at you, you'd have put a bullet through my skull."
"Do you surrender?"
"Of course I wouldn't if this was an actual exercise. But it's you, so I'll just sit down if you don't mind."
"Aww, how sweet of you."

Shortly after, the two were brought back into the Ultor complex from the training area. Training was over for the time being, and thus they had the rest of the day free.
They'd spend it by going into Alex' quarters, disable the cameras temporarily, lock the door and do a few things...Of which none required the use of contraceptives, to Leclerc's relief.

In the meantime, life continued in the GDR as usual. People died, people were born, children and teenagers were educated, adults got jobs, lost jobs, the usual.
However, the usual dull life was interrupted somewhat by a group of Italians in the south who had presumably read too much on the Romans, gathering and wanting to resurrect the 2,000-year old empire.
it was rather unlikely that they'd succeed.

[...]
In other news, the government announced today that it would be reducing all biological weapons stockpiles to a staggering zero, claiming that using such weapons in war was the lowest any man could sink to, beyond even nuclear or chemical weaponry. In addition to this, it has been announced that Ultor has been ordered to research cures and vaccines for each and every biological disease known to man, utilizing their great experience with genetic manipulation, which also has enabled crops in the GDR to grow better and healthier than any other in the world.
Chances are that it will take years and decades for them to develop cures for every disease, but they're working on annihilating some of the worst first, working towards the less threatening ones. Of note is that Ultor will - with government-surveillance and -approval - be retaining samples of each Virus and Bacteria they work on destroying, as well as any weaponised strains they may create to counter possible biological weaponry developed by other nations.
We look forward to their work, and whether the men at Ultor will be successful with this project. If they are, then it may not only protect us from bio-attacks, but also cause a revolution in medicine.

Throughout the Athenian Federation bases would move to Alert Level 3 with Naval and Air bases even being put on Alert Level 2. Directly from Supreme Command in Athens orders were issued for all leaves to be withdrawn and full mobilization to have occurred within a week. It was yet unknown why these measures were being taken as caution was maintained to avoid any information being released to the public.

With satellites watching not only potential enemies, but also allies of the GDR, as well as basically any nation in existence, the increased level of activity was noticed, leading to the GDR to heighten its alert status slightly, in preparation for a higher level of alert. If the federation came under attack - or, god forbid, attacked another nation - the NPA wanted to be prepared.

Vienna

The government has announced this morning that it is considering disarming not only chemical and biological stockpiles, but also nuclear weaponry, despite its potential of deterring other nuclear states from attacking the GDR with nuclear weapons.
When asked, the Premier said, "This world is a volatile one. MAD is practically assured if any nation uses these weapons. Many nations have a no-first-strike policy. I am considering to go one step further: Disarm our nuclear stockpiles despite our very clear capability of building fission-fusion warheads and the like. Perhaps this will show others that the world can work without the continuous threat of nuclear armageddon. In fact, I'm not only considering disarming our nukes, I'm also thinking about creating a treaty which current nuclear states sign to pledge disarming their nuclear weapons within a specified timeframe.
All this is of course not set in any way and subject to changes, but I think there is potential for an anti-nuclear treaty."

To the outside world, the GDR seemed to be doing little. However, this was intended, and the exact opposite was the case.
With both space station and spaceship completed, a space elevator and a fully operational launch loop, the GDR was in the perfect position to grasp at the stars, before any other nation. Permanent bases on the Moon or even Mars were, in the opinion of many within the nation, "small time". Greater things were planned, and somewhere in the deepest depths of the Ultor Complex, a small team was working on a truly massive undertaking: They were attempting to create the blueprints for a colony ship, a vessel that could be sent at a considerable fraction of light speed to another star.
Of course, this was but a dream for the future at the time, but as technology advanced, the feasibility of this vessel rose.

This was of course not the only thing in the works. There were three 'Ultor' locations in the country, and each had its projects - and a copy of a certain Chairman's mind far below the mountain they were in, in the lowest level.
Work on finding cures for diseases et cetera was continued as well, some successes here and there. Unfortunately, there were thousands, if not millions of possible sicknesses, and getting rid of all of them was time-consuming.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the harbour in Brest was finally finished, half of the GDR's fleet now capable of anchoring there without problems. It was a good, if temporary solution. The fleet would need to be spread out further to make any kind of first strike hard to impossible.
Construction efforts in the "Citadel" just outside Vienna continued as well, progressing rather well and ahead of schedule. Once completed, it would be a monument to Rational Communism and the industrial prowess of the GDR.

Wherever else there was research or construction to be done, it was continued just as usual. The GDR was a nation of technology, and none would match them in the end. The scientists in their laboratories would make sure of that.

However, the GDR itself was not the only place where things were happening. Estuaire, the province in equatorial Africa would get some changes over time, bunkers for the civilian population being built, much like in the mainland in Europe. These efforts were concentrated in the east, where there were some hills and low mountains, though some bunkers would be set up near every population centre. The construction of an Ultor-branch had begun as well in those mountains, and eventually the fourth (and presumably last) copy of Lynneth would be built. In addition, a division of soldiers - 10,000 - and around a hundred tanks had been brought into the province for security reasons, troops from Rebel Army never having arrived despite a promise to do so. In the eyes of the GDR, Rebel Army had thus broken the contract and they thus were free to do whatever they wanted down there.
Which included turning the region into a location where the nation could make its last stand, both Germans and Gabonese (as well as the many other minorities in the GDR) standing together, united under one banner.

While things were continuously be built, repaired, re-imagined, applied, tested and constructed, a man was gaining supporters in the GDR. He claimed to be a musician and perhaps that really was the case as he had some pretty nifty music, but he played a mad scientist intent on world-domination.
Most of the support was simply from people finding him funny, but there were a scant few who actually bought into the illusion this man was building.

His name was Doctor Phineas Waldolf Steel, and he wanted to build a utopian playland.

Dr. Steel's popularity grew immensely. Tickets for his concerts were often sold out within hours of their announcing and the people loved his music.
And he kept playing the part of the mad scientist, a personality many found to be absolutely hilarious.

Meanwhile, with Madeira being firmly in German Democratic hands, a considerable part of the fleet made its way to the island.
The GDR had four Carrier Battlegroups, each with two carriers. Currently, two groups were stationed in Koper and Brest each, but from each of these locations, one group would be moved to the formerly Holy American island.
The GDR had the following ships:

14 corvettes

14 dedicated transport flotillas

12 Battleships

11 Cruisers

10 Frigates

9 Destroyers

9 Submarines

8 Carriers
The CBGs would look as follows:
1st Battlegroup would have 3 corvettes and transports each, 3 battleships, 2 cruisers, 2 frigates, 2 destroyers, 2 submarines and 2 carriers attached, for a total of 19 ships.
2nd Battlegroup would have 4 corvettes and transports each, 3 battleships, 3 cruisers, 3 frigates, 2 destroyers, 2 submarines and 2 carriers attached, for a total of 23 ships.
3rd Battlegroup would have 3 corvettes and transports each, 3 battleships, 3 cruisers, 2 frigates, 2 destroyers, 2 submarines and 2 carriers attached, for a total of 20 ships.
4th Battlegroup would have 4 corvettes and transports each, 3 battleships, 3 cruisers, 3 frigates, 3 destroyers, 3 submarines and 2 carriers attached, for a total of 25 ships.

1st Battlegroup was stationed in Koper.
2nd Battlegroup in Brest.
The other two were stationed in Madeira from now on, to become the largest fleet-base of the GDR.

"After long-winded talks between the two Ratsherren, they have announced that the decision to bring all treaties unchanged unto the united Germany's foreign politics was not the best decision.
They have recently announced that a few select treaties will be kept, but the others downgraded, in order to prevent a complex and unnecessarily complicated net of treaties.
The following treaties are thus now valid. Apologies to the nations whose treaties have been downgraded."

"Today, it has been announced that the Amber Guard, a bastion for German peace and security, will receive major upgrades, especially the old suits being completely replaced by more modern and streamlined versions.
In addition, these new suits will have a better power supply, while internal systems will receive an updated operating system and other updates, making them even more efficient and impervious to hacking attempts and the like."
