The Great Universal Epic

Hrrrrummmmm… hrrrrrummmm… was the sound of the city nowadays. Mobile transports filled the skies above Orlieu, the City of Dreams. The city took up the entire planet, with skyscrapers now touching the uttermost extremes of the atmosphere, and gigantic spaceports dominating the skies. Clean factories blossomed along areas of the city, producing a wide variety of new goods and products for everyone to enjoy. The soft blue glow in the background was the oxygen-rich atmosphere, with a silver tinge denoting the planetary shield. Looking up, one could see a stream of ships entering and exiting the atmosphere, above the crowds of ships flying about the city. Occasionally, you would see the giant body of a Cruiser entering the atmosphere, or the shadow of a battleship orbiting the planet.

In an especially dense region of the city was where the capital district was, denoted by its particular hue of greens and deep purples compared to the rest of the city. In the center was the Building of Twelve, where the Council held their sessions. Thousands of years ago, the council numbered twelve,even before space travel. Nowadays, it was still twelve, with each quadrant electing its own representative from among their thousands of representatives. For the most part, each quadrant was very self-sufficient, with the Council in existence for the operations that they did together. The building they resided in was particularly wide and deep, because representatives from all over the various districts came to have meetings at Orlieu, considered a central point of the country.

To the west of the capital was the massive Trade Complex, an extremely tall building with a spaceport at the top, where all aspects of trade were handled. It was shaped starting with a wide base, and coming to a point near the top, to distinguish it from other buildings on the planet. North and east of this building was the Health Center, where doctors from all over the place came to gather and discuss various new treatments and diseases. Southeast of this building was the Military Pyramid, one of the main hubs of military operations. It was in the middle of a massive space, where buildings separated it into a grid, which was where cruisers would land and take off from the planet.

Marcos Rim was in full view of all of this, as his transport descended through the atmosphere to dock at Northern Orlieu Station, one of the massive transport hubs on the planet. He was surrounded by people of every background, tall blue beings with long fingers and tall foreheads, short people with long noses and drooping cheeks, and even a few humans interspersed between. He looked out his window to see one of the Planetary Escort vehicles alongside them, making sure the plane didn’t overheat, and being able to cool it with foam in case it did. Eventually, it pulled away, as the transport began to move into its assigned hangar, and eventually come to a hover. The whir of the platforms coming down from the aircraft was barely audible, and after they disappeared, you felt just a slight vibration, as the transport completely touched down. Marcos picked up his suitcase, and began to shuffle out with the rest of his passengers.

Meanwhile, above the planet, orbiting above the atmosphere, was Captain John Orlocke, a human from Prestid, a planet in the Third Quadrant, aboard the Battlecruiser Suntara. A battlecruiser wasn’t a cruiser, but it was the fourth largest ship in the fleet, being able to dock two cruisers in its hangars, as well as various other military ships, and also had a complement of 500 fighters. Its main use nowadays was to defend the dominions of control, which meant the planets that were protected by the Democracy. Surrounding the Suntara were five cruisers on its port wing, and on starboard was the gigantic Campara, a Messorian-class Soar Vessel, the capital ship in every fleet, except when there was an Admiral. On the other side of the Campara was another battlecruiser, the Himbass, surrounded by another five cruisers on its starboard side. Around the cruisers were various support vessels and weapons ships, which were vital in strategic maneuvering in battle. There were three such fleets surrounding Orlieu, in order to grant maximum protection. The planet itself had its own defenses as well, in addition to the planetary shield, but the fleets were definetly necessary to protect the planet. The moons around Orlieu, which numbered three, looked much like the planet, being terraformed about two thousand years ago, and now having cities of their own, in addition to weapons platforms which added to the defense of the system. To attack the capital, one would first have to get through the moons, through the defensive satellites and weapons platforms that were interspersed between, then get through the three defensive fleets, defeat the planetary shield, and finally bombard the planetary defenses. It was quite a feat on its own, but the capital wasn’t even the most protected place in the dominion of protection. However, to so much as attempt to take the capital would be akin to suicide for the aggressor. Over the previous space wars which had dominated the past millennium, many had tried, and did not even get within 1,000,000 km of the attack range of the surface. Now it was a new millennium, and space wars were a thing of the past. Nobody expected them to happen, but nevertheless, the defenses remained.

In the depths of space, halfway across the Andromeda galaxy, the dominant trading planet Rimbio orbited the sun Meethos as part of a twelve-planet solar system. Like Orlieu, Rimbio was full of interplanetary traffic, though having many more large cargo ships and fewer small ships. Rimbio was full of mines and farmland, in comparison to planets that were complete cities. Among half of its planet spanned plots of agriculture that boggle the mind, and stretch out for thousands of miles, while on the other half were mines and refineries, many miles high, that output absolutely massive amounts of natural resources. These were then transported by massive freight vessels that transported them around the dominions, aiding the thriving growth of the area. The same was true of all the planets in the region, which all were designed in the same manner as Rimbio except for the planet Meethos Prime. This planet was home to the Illa shipyards, which were one of the largest producers of military vessels in the dominions, spanning both on the ground and throughout the orbit of the planet. The planet’s surface also produced the weapons and shields that were used on the ship, as well as the multiple laser and ionic components that served as nearly unlimited weapons. In addition to these, it produced multiple missiles and bombing devices, which were far beyond the imaginations of those that lived millennia ago.

As such, the Meethos system was one of the most protected systems in the entire Democracy. Boasting a massive fleet of twenty-five Messorian-class vessels, five Limbus-class Bodassius’ (the largest ship in the fleet), and hundreds of battlecruisers and cruisers, all supported by the thousands upon thousands of support vessels that assisted them in battle. The planetary defenses of the system were also extremely impressive, with each planet boasting the planetary shield and massive turrets and guns on the surface. The dominions protected this region as one of the most important areas, as it was a major production hub.

However, the freight vessels were something to be marveled at. Rivaling even the Bodassius vessels in size, they transported the massive amounts of cargo from that region around the dominions. They had their own defensive systems, and were protected by some cruisers and about one hundred fighters. These were hardly noticeable against the massive bulk of the Taranto, a freighter vessel that was just about to jump out of the Meethos system to the Ontri system to offload its cargo.

Ship Commander Gorias Locke was on the large Bridge of the ship, located just above the front of the ship, and a little further towards the back from it. It protruded like the crest of a crown from the body of the vessel, and proceeded in an oval shape along the top. Needless to say, it was also pretty large. In the center of the Bridge was the Command Table, which had a three-dimensional layout of the system, and all the ships inside it. Planets were blue, the star was a hazy white color, and friendly ships were different shades of green depending on what their purpose was. Military vessels appeared moderately large on the display, mainly surrounding the planets, in a deep shade of brown. Around the table were the Commander and his main officers, along with consoles along the table that various individuals were sitting at. Lining the sides of the bridge were large HUD consoles, on which were displayed various information about the ship and its condition, as well as active feeds from the planets and other communication-vital services. In all, about two hundred people were on the Bridge at any one time, in order to keep the ship running properly. Each individual wore a headset, and were separated into teams, which would talk to their team’s commanding officer, which would be standing with Gorias Locke at the Command Table.

“Engines are ready, Commander.” “Weapons are charged and ready for the jump, Commander.” “Communications assets are secure for jump, Commander.” “All fighter wings are inside and awaiting jump, Commander.”

Gorias nodded at each of these statements, all the more eager to prepare for his departure. “Prepare to make hyper jump on my mark… 10…. 9…. 8…. 7…. 6…. 5…. 4…. 3…. 2…. 1….”
