Above Constantinople, Byzantium...

An airliner flew midst the clouds that floated above Constantinople, the capital of Byzantium. Bearing the Promised Land flag on its sides, the airliner began to steadily descend as it neared and neared Constantinople International Airport. Inside the aircraft, sitting in the passenger seats, were a certain two brothers that we all know and love.

Jed Constantine grinned as he looked out the window before glancing at Laurel Asire, the beautiful young woman that he'd met at that ship a year before. Aaron smirked as he popped some chips into his mouth, Henry squatting nearby. Wordlessly, Jed smiled at Laurel as he turned his head to admire the sight once again. Several Promised Land agents sat near them.

Surely, the clouds evaporated and Constantinople came into sight. The impressive, sprawling capital of Byzantium was nothing short of breathtaking, so to say. Hundreds and hundreds of buildings, skyscrapers, and the like adorned the city's skyline. Jed, Aaron, and Laurel could see the Millennium Tower off in the distance. Jed would explain that he and Aaron'd concieved the Tower.

As the airliner descended further, Jed and Aaron could see the cars and people moving about, going on their businesses. But what intrigued him was that he would see something like...a large crowd in front of...the Constantinople International Airport? Was the Byzantine people welcoming him back? He smiled. He would certainly find out, soon.

Finally, the airliner touched down, and the jetliner jerked slightly as it landed on the runway. The airliner began to slow down, steadily stopping to a halt. Both Jed and Aaron smiled. They were finally home.

"Well, this is it. We're home, bro." Aaron grinned as he crumpled up the now empty chip wrapper and threw it away into a nearby wastebucket. Jed nodded in agreement. "Yes, indeed." He said, grinning.

Soon, a Promised Land official entered the room and informed the brothers that they had arrived, and that they'd getting off the airliner shortly. Indeed, the sounds of the door opening and a stairway being rolled into place signified that. Nodding, Jed and Aaron Constantine, as well as Laurel and the Promised Land agents, got up and walked toward the open door.

It was a clear, beautiful day. The sun was shining as Jed and Constantine stepped out onto the stairway. The Brothers smiled, they were finally home.

Looking around, Jed and Aaron would see a delegation of Byzantine officials and generals in military uniform, including William Hans himself, waiting near the stairway, standing at attention. Descending the stairway (but letting Laurel go first, of course), Jed and Aaron smiled as they approached William Hans.

"Hello, Jed and Aaron." William Hans smiled as he saluted. "Welcome back. It had been so long since we last saw you." The other generals nodded, albeitly a bit nervously because they were unsure about how Jed and Aaron would react.

Jed and Aaron, however, surprised Hans by putting him into a manly hug. "Thank you, Hans. It had been so long, indeed." Jed smiled. Turning to the other generals, Jed and Aaron chuckled. "Do not worry, men. You've all been forgiven a long time ago, heh." At this, the generals looked visibly relieved.

Hans smiled. "Oh, and by the way...there's a reception waiting for you around the airport. You'll see. The limousine is that way."

Raising an eyebrow, Jed and Aaron followed Hans and the generals, Laurel and the Promised Land agents following them. As they neared the limousine, they could hear thunderous celebrations as huge crowds, barely held back by Army soldiers and loyal police officials, broke out into wild cheerings as they saw Jed and Aaron, their long-lost rulers.

Jed and Aaron grinned as they waved to the wildly-cheering crowds when they walked past, to the waiting limousine. Jed smiled as he put an arm around Laurel and pulled her close. Surely, the media would pick up on this, but Jed didn't care. All over the nation, millions of girls were bitterly disappointed as they glared at the red-haired woman who was with Jed. Aaron chuckled as he waved to the crowds, Henry walking alongside him, his tail wagging happily.

Hans smiled at Jed and Laurel. "Well, this is it." He said, gesturing to the limousine. "Once again, welcome back. We are so happy to have you back." Jed smiled and nodded. "Thank you, sir." He said as he let Laurel get in the limousine first before following her in. Aaron and Henry climbed in last, and an official closed the door. Hans and the generals got into the front of the limousine.

With a roar, silent midst the cheerings and celebrations of the crowds, the limousine set off, in the direction of the Dolmabahce Palace. Several Army and police vehicles tagged along.

Home at last.

(OOC: Subtle, sorry I controlled Laurel and other Promised Land officials. I won't do that again. ;))

OOC: It's OK this time. Seems fairly reasonable this time.

IC: Laurel remained silent the whole time. She'd been told the public wanted Jed and Aaron back, but she hadn't been prepared for the truly massive welcome that had been waiting for them.

She smiled as she saw the truly joyous expressions on the brothers' faces. She imagened if she were exiled from home for as long as they had been, she would be glad to come back too. Sitting back in the seat of the limo, she enjoyed the ride.

The ride to the Dolmabahce Palace was quite eventful, as Jed, Aaron, and Hans chatted. From time to time, Jed and Aaron would look out the window, and enjoy the view. Constantinople looked as beautiful and thriving as it was before. It had only been a year, and yet it felt like an eternity since they've been there.

Finally, after a while, a magnificent building loomed into view. It was the Dolmabahce Palace, the seat of the Byzantine Government. Jed turned to Laurel and smiled. "So, what do you think?"

Jed did blush, a bit. "Glad you like it." He said, smiling. He then added the word "darling" with a teasing wink, to see if he could make her blush.

By then, the limousine stopped in front of the Dolmabahce Palace. Almost immediately, Army officials and guards rushed forward to open the door -- and to greet Jed and Aaron. Jed let Laurel get out first, before getting out himself. Henry jumped out and Aaron got out, last. The soon-to-be Prime Minister and Emperor stretched a bit as they greeted officials.

Hans, who by then had gotten out of the limousine among with the Promised Land agents, smiled. "Home sweet home, eh?" He chuckled before pausing for a moment. "Let us come inside, so you can see your old office -- and the transition of power can be finished."

Jed raised an eyebrow. "Transition of power?" He then remembered one thing: Byzantium had established a provisional government, and its official name was the Provisional Government. It made sense; Hans was only holding power until they returned. Nodding, Jed smiled. "Very well, let's get started, shall we?"

Turning to Laurel, Jed -- being the gentleman that he always was -- held out his arm for Laurel to take. Aaron, seeing this, rolled his eyes and mouthed 'Come on, just tell her' to Jed when Laurel wasn't looking. Jed subtly rolled his eyes.

She did flush a bit, but unless one were looking carefully, it would remain unseen.

She took the offered arm, all the while taking in her surroundings, to all appearances, just a simple, innocent visitor who was seeing the sights. And for the moment, she was.

Ah, but Jed did see it. He grinned a bit.

Smiling, Jed escorted Laurel besides Aaron, Hans, a few officials, and the Promised Land agents toward the Dolmabahce Palace. Walking past the gates into the Palace, Jed and Aaron smiled, remembering as they took in the interiors of the Palace. Everything was much the same, and yet looked and felt different. The brothers greeted the staff along the way.

Reaching the office on the second floor, Hans unlocked the double doors and opened them, letting the brothers in. "This is now your office, sir. My duty is now done." Hans said, smiling. Jed nodded and walked over to his desk. Sitting down at the desk, Jed let out a breath as he remembered the last time he sat down on the desk. That time, he and Aaron was overthrown in that very room by nothing other than John Kelikark himself a year and-an-half ago.

Turning to Laurel, Jed smiled, albeit a bit sadly. "We were in this very room -- I was at this very desk -- when it happened. It was over a year ago..."

Aaron nodded in agreement, and Henry barked sadly.

"It would feel strange, I suppose, to come back to a place after all this time where something like that happened," she commented as she leaned against the wall. "But I can think of at least one good thing came of all that," she added with a small smile.

Jed smiled. "It's time to start setting up the new foundations of Byzantium..." Hans nodded in understanding and agreement. Henry barked joyfully.

In the days and weeks ahead, Jed and Aaron would confer with military generals, politicians, and officials regarding the establishment of a new political regime in Byzantium...

(OOC: Subtle, I've already typed up a LONG post about this new state on my laptop. I should have it set up soon. ;) Although I'm not sure whether I should post that in this thread or make yet another new thread about that.)

The Dolmabahce Palace,

Constantinople, Byzantium

Everything was ready. The podium had been set, the microphones and cameras were put in place, satellites were prepared to broadcast this upcoming event to the rest of the nation and the world. Millions of Byzantine citizens across the nation, from Martenshaven to Ankara to Tiflis, and going as far as Astrakhan, were huddled around in their living room, their eyes glued to their television sets. Millions more stood in the streets, malls, public places, watching the news channels on the various high-def televisions. Various news reporters sat in the audience in the broadcasting area, their papers, pens, and laptops ready to record whatever that might be said.

Something was happening, and they all knew it. Since the former leaders Jed and Aaron Constantine had returned to Constantinople, there were jubiliant celebrations in major cities and towns across Byzantium. Gone were the repression and oppression that they had to live with in the past year and a-half. Gone were the shortages. Gone were the curfew. Gone were the fear that had ruled their lives. They were now living in freedom, and a true one, that is.

Since their return, Jed and Aaron had been hard at work, confering with various politicans, officials, and military generals regarding the establishment of a new political entity in Byzantium. So far, it was a success. And it was about to be announced.

Finally, Jed and Aaron Constantine appeared, as did William Hans. The broadcasting room, as well as millions all over Byzantium, broke out into applause and celebrations at the sight of them. Jed and Aaron's grinning faces were visible on millions of televisions as countless girls (and even some boys) sighed dreamily at the sight of the handsome brothers.

The room was awash with flashes as photographers flashed pictures of the brothers to distribute to the media. Jed smiled as he arranged transcripts of the announcement that he planned to make. This would be the first speech that he would make to the Byzantine people in over a year. Finally, it began.

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen, of Byzantium and the world." Jed began as he surveyed the audience, the reporters scribbling on their papers furiously. "As you all can see, I have come before you, my brothers and sisters, to make an announcement regarding the state of affairs and establishment of Byzantium as we all know."

Pausing to clear his voice, Jed nodded and continued. "So, I come before you to announce on your behalf the dissolution of the Provisional Government of Byzantium! Although this had all but done in the last few weeks, I would like to make this official." Looking squarely at the camera -- and thus at the millions and millions of eyes that were glued at the screens, Jed smiled. "We would like to issue a statement from this moment on, a new entity shall be duly established and executed through the powers and functions of its proper Government, and with its ascribed powers granted and protected by a new Constitution."

"So, it is with this statement that we officially declare the existence of the United Kingdom of Byzantium, Greece, Georgia, and Transcaucasia! Replacing the destitute Republic of Byzantium and the Provisional Government of Byzantium, the United Kingdom shall serve as the beacon of democracy, freedom, and peace in the world!"

The audience, and the Byzantine populace, gasped in admiration at this recent revelation. Most of them began nodding in appreciation.

Scanning the audience, Jed continued on. "A new codified Constitution, named the Constitution of the United Kingdom of Byzantium, Greece, Georgia, and Transcaucasia, shall outline the freedoms, rights, and duties of the new State and its people, and the like. A new Bill of Rights shall be amended unto the Constitution, of which the following rights shall be granted to the people and cannot be violated by the State, except with explicit permission from the people: the right to the freedom of speech, the right to assembly, the right to bear arms, the right to privacy, the right to due process in accordance to law, the right to a fair and just trial, and without cruel and unusual punishment, along with others."

Clearing his voice once again, Jed continued once more, "With that, the new United Kingdom shall be a parliamentary unitary State, headed by the Prime Minister, led by Parliament, and represented by the Sovereign (Emperor or Empress)!" He gestured to Aaron, who curtsed. The audience began applauding and cheering.

"So, with all that, I shall make a solemn promise to you, my brothers and sisters, that we shall uphold our sacred duty that we have made to you, that we shall protect, defend, and preserve the United Kingdom, on both the domestic and international scene, and that we shall lead Byzantium and its people to greatness! And we shall do that. So God help us."

Thunderous cheerings and applause continued in the room. On the streets of Byzantium and in homes, people began hugging and kissing each other. This was a glorious day, indeed, and one that shall never ever be forgotten.

Jed smiled. "Good night, my brothers and sisters. May God bless you all, always!" With that, he, Aaron, and Hans stepped off the podium to greet the audience...

Would the United Kingdom (OOC: I assume that's an acceptable shorter variant/OOC) consider, at the very least, an Optional Defense Pact with Promised Land?

***Private message***

And also other of certain other Australian nations?

Yes, we would be willing to sign an Optical Defensive Pact, or perhaps a MDoAP, with Promised Land.

***Classified response***

Yes, we would be willing to do so, also.

Thank you. We will wish to confer with our allies before signing anything above an ODP, of course, though we believe they will have noproblem with it.

As soon as possible.

We crave the cake, unless it's a lie, in which case we prefer pie.

Shall we make a treaty for the cake-exchangings?
