Rise of Mounlantia

As per norm, the steam & hammering rose up from the city as dawn broke. Engines came to life. Generators got turned back into daytime mode. It was a normal day. No different from the last, nor the day after. The large city continued its daily buisness.

But more engines turned on. And more. And more. Untill the 150 Steam Tanks were ready to head out. Scouts headed forward to the West, going over light snow-covered hills. Merrit would be reconqered, followed by the Siege of Kamloops; rivals of the place once known as Kelowna. Kelowna [Mounlantia] had already taken Vancouver, renamed for its use: Lacantis, Lake City.

-------------------------------

Giacomo left his workshop. A normal 22 YO Artures [plures artus, latin], he loved to invent stuff. More than any other Artures. He recently made a new tank, a prototype. They were leaving today, so he went with them. Most of the EAT's were changed so much that it looked like a rag tag bunch of plate-covered engine's. But that was what the Artures were; inventors, builders, anything. Their arms helped quite abit with operating machinery, and if a hand was lost in a machine; well, they were still useful. Much different than their counter parts.

OOC Note: I'm fashioning them being based off steam (lots of water, never discovered oil), gears, and rusty buildings. Sort of like these guys. I'll make their buildings tomorrow.

100 points to whoever guess which creature is a Artures and the unnamed other.

I'll post the next part tommorrow.

EDIT: Here is my stuff.

RISING

The Mounlantians of Lacantisia found something. They were in some old city, started but unfinished during a human expansion. But what they found was a cable in the ground, with labels sayin "FIBRE OPTIC". It was conencted to other wires to several strange boxes, some with black screens. They had no idea how they worked, and pushing the buttons did not work. But in minutes they figured that they needed power. Another few minutes later and they had custom-made plug-in's to their huge Battery Paxgnus (large vehicle thats a battery, used alot when searching old cities). But the letters were far different than theirs, and thus sent a messenger to Giacomo so he could decifer them.

By Artures standerd, Giacomo was very intelligent, but reckless. He has created many good vehicles, like the Paxgnus Safe (safer), but he has had many explosions in the Mounlantia University of All (he is a student still, currently on Winter Vacation (like Summer vacation). Never the less, his natural ability as a inventor pays off.

OOC: magnus pax will get you the right latin name.

OOC: I'm guessing the top one is the Artures...

OOC: Right on target! :D

OOC: Changed the 150 EAT's to 150 Steam Tanks. /OOC

RISING PART 2

Giacomo opened up his workshop door. He smilied as he saw no one nearby, and put his protective mask on. Although he had no need for it in his special vehicle (nicknamed EAT for Extended Assult tank) he still put it on to be safe. Giacomo climbed to his homemade $@pit with his many hands. He pulled the starter lever, and his contraption started.

Tank1.png

Giacomo press the gas. To his surpise, the vehicle flew forward and almost hit the house accross the backally. This has much more power than I thought! Giacomo thought. Well, good thing I bought all the gas that merchant had; this thing eats tones of it! He turned the vehicle and headed out into the street. The Artures there looked in suprise, but stayed away from it (last time he made one the boiler blew up). He countinued across the river, and entered the vehicle column headed for Merrit to reconquer it. The Artures on the tanks looked at his vehicle, but payed no heed.

Steam Tanks were often moddified by their owning Artures. Sometimes it was plates of metal to protect them; other times it was jsut for looks. Others even made them more efficient on Steam, or just increased the engine area for longer fights/distances.

Steamtank3.jpg

Several Paxgnus could also be seen. They were here with additional coal, water, anything needed. For this was a Artures battleforce, prepared to charge into the middle of battle.

RISING PART 3

Cannons thundered. Gun's fired. The sounds of war echoed in the hills as Merrit came under attack.

Merrit was a peaceful town. But these were not peaceful times. They sided with Mounlantia, but the Kamloopians hated the Mounlantians & thus conquered it, forceing them to side with Kamloops. Mounlantia has always hated kamloops; they were over-friendly to the environment and think that the world must be cleansed of all people; then they would follow and kill themselves. Well, the government and religous icons thought so.

So the rumbling of tanks, the marching of Arteres, the wing-beats of Volanus echoed with the flares of Steam cannons against stationary cannons. But the Steam tank's out-gunned and out- flanked the stationary cannons. They didn't stand a chance. even their infantry, fighting for every inch, were blown to pieces by the gernade-guns of the Basic Blast Corps, Mounlantia's infantry. One more victory.

Even after all of the rough fighting, they picked up the mody's, leaving them alone, and gave them back. Some Kamloopians even helped. A little-known party with cake was held, having participents from both sides in it.

By this point, the Storm Dragon Empire had taken a great interest in their trade partners. A few more drakes arrived in their rocket suits. They would land and simply observe, not breaking any laws.. just watching how this group interacted with the world. They would hardly even speak to their friends while there, just taking notes and watching interactions. They were studying their social patterns, behaviors, norms, doing their best not to infringe or upset laws. The goal was to establish a core basis for diplomatic contact.

The Dragons had noticed there was a suprlus of Aluminum available in this area.. and they had also noticed the Mounlantians were extremely good agrarians and had a very large cattle stock. They offered, "If you wish to, We can also give you wood to help you with your steam and houses from our forests.. along with our coal. We would like, if we did this, to have access to your metal and cattle.. The cattle, in particular, would be of immense interest to us. Such a delicious food supply would feed many of our people."

The Artures translator was once again called, but then sent back; a Volanusian translator was found & could keep up with the dragons...mostly. The Volanus talks to a messenger, and within minutes the messenger is back.

"Yes, yes that tis' one good deal. Its accepted. That coal, well I don't really like coal, but those Artures sure do. Those trees, too, will be quite good for us. Yes quite. Lots of them trees here are either dead, dieing, or soon will. Dunno why, a Artures talked about bettles or something. Ah, this year we gots an over-population of cattle. Too many of them gas-makers. 'Reminds me, those Artures put a tube on the end of one of those, and made a big fire after when it was lit. Oh, and one of us had to fetch a aluminum sack that was somehow floating. They said something, oh what was it, AH! Helium." He takes a small breather, "Me thinks thats all. I'll stick 'round of you need anything else during your stay!"

"That is all." The Dragon had a mask over its muzzle and made hissing sounds with almost every breath it took through the mask. It was a stratospheric flight mask that couldn't be removed without removing the suit. The Dragons would remove them at dusk, clean.. then wear them when they woke. It was their official uniform when acting abroad as part of the Empire Air Forces and Diplomatic Corps. The dragon tapped on a little button on its arm. It sent a message up a wire to its back to a transmitter running on a battery.. which broadcast the signal via HAM radio back to his homeland in Drakian Code. "Trade Authorized.. stop.. Coal and Wood for Aluminum and Cattle.. stop.. they seem to think Helium would be a new concept to us.. stop.."

BACK STORY

Mounlantia is an old city. Founded almost 600 years previously, it has had various times where it moved akin to the tide. Technology gained then lost. Powerful then minor. There is even an old building outside of town was once used to launch things into space; but it was in ruins, with whatever launched out of it gone and equipment beyond repair.

The oldness of the city goes with the long livingness of the tough-as-nails Artures; their organs deterriorate but are repaired & thus have no limit to their life. Unfortunetly mortal wounds still kill them. There are some who are in their late 100's; in fact, its rumored that there is a monk on top of a mountain whos over 300 years old, but its unknown which mountain & thus the rumors are unconfirmed.

The Volanus are a much newer addition, only becoming a part of Mounalntia about 130 years ago. It helped quite alot that they can fly, making structures of Mounlantia easier to repair and build. But what really helped is their variety of uses. Their ability to fly is very useful, but their way of thinking revolutionized Mounlantia; perhaps that is why it is in far better shape than before. Plus it helped that they both come from a long extinct species.

Their city is quite an achienvement and difference than any other city. There were pletny of factories, massive gears for various uses jutting out of their tops. Steam hiss echoes regularly in the valley, metal and some old rust metal covered many of the buildings. Many of the newer ones were made of wood and some metal. Some buildigns were built on form their oldest; the HQ itself was built upon itself three times. A massive dam collects power, which powers the city lights and regular home. Coal and wood is used in Steam boilers to power factories and buildings not currently powered.

A Nobody flying craft soared above what looked to be a settlement of "people" with strange, archaic technology. It certainly warranted a further look by the military members flying the craft. They touched down outside what appeared to be the city-limits and awaited the investigation which must come whenever an unidentified object touches down.

Oddly, the visiting Storm Dragons saw the ships incoming and they were one of the first to move. Their rocket packs flared as they made a short gliding hop to the landing zone from within the city. They stopped outside the aircraft, weapons held at rest.. and waited to see what came out.

Several BBC (Basic Blast Corps) troops headed out to investigate, along with a Steam Tank and a fixed-up SteamFlyer.

They saw the dragons, but still moved to a hill (incase of attack) and sent the steam tank forward. The Steam Flyer meerly hoved nearby.

BACK STORY 2

The factories, homes, and almsot every building were different. Most were made from one type of plan/factory, but then accidents, personality, and requirements/uses changed their features quite alot.

The regular home of a Artures had a workshop on it, for an Artures can live for a long time & accumulated alot of stuff.

The craft rolled to a stop on a flat stretch of land, its' brakes squealing from the stress of stopping the craft. For a few seconds, the airplane did not slow at all. But the force of friction eventually stopped the wheels and it sat deathly still for a few moments.

A door on the craft opened, and a Dusk slithered cautiously out. Its' frankly creepy movements would have been reminiscent of a snake, had it cared one modicum about the reptiles common in this land. Instead of pondering this, it stepped out and eyed the natives warily.

While doing this, it never stopped wiggling.

The BBC's in the Steam Tank eyed the strange creatrue. They had never seen something like it. They thought it may be dieing, so they shouted in Mounlantian at the ground troops and they went off to see if a translator new its language, and for a docter.

The Dusk wiggled even more intensely for a few moments before returning to its normal pattern. A silhouette from the ship slowly strode down the ramp and stood brazenly in front of the Storm Dragon. If it was intimidated by the creature, it didn't show any fear or apprehension in its' six eye-slits. Instead, it bowed slightly and intoned in a whispering voice.

"Hello. We are Legion. We are Many, We are None." It thought for a moment while waiting for a reply, internally fuming at the translator's simplicity.

The Samurai tried again, harder. To his surprise, the translator worked more efficiently when the creature talked to him.

"We are Nobody. No Soul. Only We."

"No soul implies no identity.. Do you have names?" He again waited for the translator to churn out what he had said. The translator had become more familiar with the Dragon Empire tongue with the time they had spent in Mounlantia.

He could have smiled, if only he knew how. Instead, the Samurai continued to "vocalize." They were said into the translator of the Storm-Dragons by the same process Nobodies used to communicate at close distances, a mix between body-language and vibrations of air.

"We are one." He indicated himself. "They are one." He pointed to the wriggling dusk. He thought for a second, the word name had no direct translation in the language of Nobodies with the exception of a sacred thing given to the Organization Members. He supposed one could name themselves.

"Name? We are Legion."

OOC: At the moment, Nobodies have no concept of "I".

"I see.. you're a collective. And each.. type.. of you.. are a collective?" He was slowly starting to wrap his head around this... Talos scratched his head as he watched one of the dusks closely. His own body language, not consciously really monitored, betrayed his own curiosity about them.

ooc: We're making use of your now.. very stressed out most likely, translator.

ooc: Oh. He was still coming over... :P (aka ignore this OC ;))

IC: The Volanus had some difficulty with the languages; he learned Dusk from another merchant, and even that merchant wasn't with the Dusk for long. But he managed.

Meanwhile, the Artures sat there. The flyer landed in a lake beside the meeting (it could only land safely in water, may fall over and get damaged on land).

--------------------------------------

With the destroyed town of Merrit once again under Mounlantian control, several Paxgnus' with tools, equipment, blue prints, and more headed for the Storm Dragon Empire. They would give the Dragons the designs for the Dragon Tank, the tools for making it, and anything else needed. Several also had cattle & aluminum. On their way back they would be filled with coal.
